Lil Wayne has gone from being a pretty good rapper with a pretty good flow for his young age, but #3 in his own click(behind Juve and B.G.) and dropping three sub-par albums(Tha Block is Hot, Lights Out, and 500 Degreez) to really improving his flow and wordplay dramatically to the point where he came out with two really good albums with The Carter 1 & 2 and should no doubt be considered in the top 5 rappers in the south right now.....but as far as being the best rapper across the board, he is not....and the reason for that is despite the fact that he has improved greatly and really worked on his craft, his consistency and subject matter are limited....he doesn't really talk about anything, his wordplay has gotten to be nice, but the complexity is not always there(and i have listened to commercial and underground so i don't wanna here that shit), and this next album is a make or break album for him, if he doesn't come out with a classic album, how can you put him as the best rapper.....top 5 in the south, yes, but is he in the top 5 rappers in the world without a classic album......no

Wayne is the best of this time and all time. Only 2Pac's even close. Drought 3 is no doubt the best mixtape that's ever been dropped. Carter I, II, and III leaked are all classic albums. People act like hip hop/rap has to be serious all the time to be good. Wayne is clever and hilarious. And he brings unmatched energy to all his features. No rapper makes a song hotter than Wayne.
As for that Dr. Carter freestyle, though, it's alright. Some of the recent stuff from late last year and on isn't as good. I hope he isn't falling off.

Who's better than Wayne, though, for real? I could see an argument for 2Pac or Rakim. This isn't about who is the most influential, or who has created popular styles or whatever, but who is actually the best rapper. Wayne's lyricism (not subject material, i don't care if the music is uplifting or meaningful) is on par with all the other greats, and his energy on the track is unmatched.

Before I go in, I just want to say that all of the following is my personal opinion and by no means the gospel. So anyone reading this after me, don't get gassed.
Ok, so honestly, I think Wayne is a good, solid, lyricist, on every level. But the best? That could definitely be left up for debate. One of the smartest in the game, definitely. The way he carries himself and how he raps implies that he feels he is the best, at all times, which he should. If he doesn't then who will. If nothing else I can appreciate him being unafraid to tap into certain parts of the mind, but still maintain a swag to keep it cool. A lot of the bars he kicks couldn't come from anybody elses mouth, because it would come off as corny. So he has a leg up in that sense. But honestly I think he just found his lane in the last year or two. I'm VA raised, but my family background is originally from Louisiana, so I been listening to all kinds of little Wayne before it was the cool thing to do. And in my opinion (once again), I think some of his best work came in the form of the Sqad Up mixtape series, regardless of the business woes that came along with that at the time. I think that now as I said, he's just much smarter over all....the man has a psych degree for God's sake, he knows the art of pumping whatever info in peoples heads day in and day out for as long as possible will turn things in his favor. They do in on CNN, FOX, and any other news broadcast you can think of to get people to buy into certain things. He has just become his own anchorman of CMB News, and I'm not mad at him.

Wayne has his own style, but he is not the greatest alive by any stretch. He puts out alot of music but none of it is as good as any one Pac album. Pac was a legend because of his work ethic and social relevance. Big is a legend because of his story telling ability and early battle skills. Wayne's music is party shit. Not very thought provoking or deep. He can't tell a story, he never spits about anything besides club drugs and clothes. He is one dimensional. The Carter albums are mediocore. The same can be said for Lupe, Kanye, and 50. Its funny because when I was coming up I used to question the state of society and I wanted to listen to music that did the same....kids these days are raised to be catered to pussies and there music reflects that. Simply put NO - Wayne is not the best rapper alive and at this rate will never be. FIRST off there will never be a best rapper alive since there are too many great MC's. Ive listened to every album hes put out and a lot of his mixtapes (those official ones like the Drought etc.) and I can honestly say he is not the best. everytime i listen to a song I always pay attention to the lyrics and how well they go with the beat and shit and I notice that Wayne is not all that great. I do think he is the **hottest** rapper out now with all those songs and mixtapes. in my opinion, to be a great rapper, its about lyrics and how well they were put together - not just punchlines or simply making words rhyme. I do give Wayne credit cuz i think he is a good rapper overall and i respect his hustle but thats about it. Im not of those people who hate on him and never listen to his music, but if anyone has a good song i'll listen to it.
