I used to love the radio. For all those fellow Houstonians who remember the day when you could hear songs like "25 Lighters" and "Ball N Parlay" 10 times a day, what happened? These weren't national artists (not at the time, at least), but our celebrated regional stars.
Big Pokey wasn't on MTV everyday.

a
Keke wasn't showin off his crib.

Aint nobody know a damn thing about DJ DMD.

But stations like 97.9 The Box supported the city's underground stars as much as the national representas. But now I hate the radio. With a passion.
Fuck 97.9. Double fuck 104.9. I'd rather listen to 102.1. The shit's like an audio version of “106 and Park.†It’s the same 10 songs every day, over and over. I know ya’ll have turned the radio on one station, hear some trash ass shit like "I Betcha Cant Do It Like Me" only to turn to another station and the same wack ass song playin at the same time. Come on now, how many times can we snap in one day? Or motorcycle in one day?
Back in my golden years of like '98 (when I was like 13-the age when most people get locked in on what’s good hip-hop and what's not) we heard classic shit on the radio. Shit like "Hard Knock Life" -- you know, the song that got everybody on the Hov bandwagon -- and "Ha" by Juvenile (which is still his best song EVER). These were just some examples of inspiring rap being burnt into your head everyday. We went from "You know me well from nightmares from a lonely cell/ My only hell/But since when ya’ll niggas know me to fail" to "Ask me how I know, it’s me, suprised!" Not to say these songs don’t jam, but fuck, isn’t there something better we can be listening to?
How many times did you ever hear "Earthquake" on The Box huh? NEVER.
That shit got no play like a nigga with no rubbers. What about the new shit? Can I hear some "Mr. Me Too" every once in a while (if you dont know nuthin bout that, please stop reading)?
Lupe Fiasco a lil Kick Push please?

I'll go jump in the bayou if "Shooter" makes the Top 8 at 8.

Maybe it’s just me. Am I thinkin too much? “Or perhaps that’s reality in a project mentality†- Lupe Fiasco
Maybe the radio is too simple and I don’t get the basics.
