Pimp C - Pimpalation Review

I wasn't particularly thrilled about this album, but seeing as UGK's legacy is insurmountable, I decided to check it out. Problem is, Pimpalation is a far cry from the UGK mantra.
1. The Pimp is Free (Intro)
Nice somber intro. Decent way to kick off the album after all that "Free Pimp C" hoopla.
2. Free
One of the best joints on the album. I hope they cleared that Tom Petty "Free Fallin'" sample. And, why go and ruin it with a 2Pac quote?
3. Knockin' Doorz Down
The beat knocks and the concept is ok. But this has to be one of the 2,000 songs he said was written jail, because he's trying to squash beefs that no longer exist here: "I'm down with Lil' Flip/And I'm down with T.I.P./If them niggas come together, know how much paper we'd see/Slim Thug and Z-Ro, y'all still bullshit...//"
4. Rock 4 Rock
Since this one featured Scarface and Willie D, I kept waiting for Bushwick Bill's crazy ass to come in and ruin the song, which never happened. I figured it out, Scarface is the same person as Willie D.
5. Pourin' Up
You've probably heard this one. It's the same exact beat on "Draped Up." I hope the producer got paid twice.

6. The Honey
Jazze Phe [sp] has openmouth-itis, always ruining everybody's song with that "ladies and gentlemen" nonsense. The lyrics are nothing new either. Skipadoodle.
7. Gitcha Mind Right
This has got to be one of the most intriguing beats I've heard all year. Pimp C should have made this one a single. Only God knows how many buckets of weed they smoked while making this one.
8. I Don't Fucc Wit U
Whoever sings the chorus needs a real job. Skip
9. Workin' the Wheel
Beat sounds like protools on default, but Slim Thug saves the day.
10. Bobby & Whitney
I've been waiting for someone to come up with this title for a long time. That said, skip.
11. Like That (Remix)
Skip
12. Cheat on Yo Man
Mannie Fresh (of all people) delivers the best production on the album here. Who woulda thunk it
13. Having Thangs '06
Yet another crazy beat. Pimp C does it justice...to my relief.
14. Overstand Me
Z-Ro slurs his words as always. Guess I'll have to wait for the chopped and screwed version to 'overstand' what the hell Z-Ro's saying here. Chamillionaire does ok, nothing spectacular.
15. On Your Mind
This sounds like something Jazze Pha's weedcarrier produced while Pha was out ruining songs. No thanks to Jagged Edge, Pimp C is a complete stranger on his own track.
16. I Miss You
On some Too Short shit? Nice way to close the album though.
17. Outro
Same beat as the intro, kinda like Face does on his albums. The Pimp takes time out to thank friends, family, associates and weedcarriers.
Bottom Line: Some folks are going to be mad that they rocked all those "Free Pimp C" tees for nothing. Others will lick it up (no homotion) and applaud for the mere fact that it's Pimp C, one half of UGK. The production held up Pimpalation for the most part (really whenever Jazze Pha was out of the studio), but there's really no coherence, no concept, nothing else holding it together. Mostly rehashed topics and incongruent guest appearances. That said, it's still better than I expected and there's a few stand-out tracks that I can go back and listen to. While Bun B's Trill was underwhelming, it's still marginally better than Pimpalation. Baiscally, the sum of both rappers is still greater than the individual parts. No more solo joints, We want a UGK album.

Yeah whoever reviewed this album is a hater like shit. Pimp C and Bun B going come correct every time cousin. Whether it be solo or as UGK. Stop comparing these brothers to these other fuck ass rappers. Like Pimp said, "They don't make hip-hop records,they make country rap tunes."

Are you even from the south?! I ask this cuz who in tha fuck says "Skipadoodle"? I'm sure that the CD aint tha greatest ever but i'm sure its some bangaz on there, guaranteed that tha hood is gon feel it, just like tha last one and that shit was pre-recorded! This album here is just to put some bread in that mans pocket!
Unfortunately though, with tha way that H-Town has blown up, UGK will never be same, but i'm still ridin wit em!
Yeh, this album aint no Ridin Dirty or none of the other classics, but its a good filler till the UGK album comes out. And what buddy talkin bout... T.I. and Flip still beef on the low, or as T.I. says, "we agree to disagree." And that Cheat Yo Man wasn't the best beat on the album, he obviously didn't really listen to tracks like "Knockin Doorz Down," "Rock 4 Rock," "The Honey," or "Bobby and Whitney.". But if you aint feelin that trill shit or that pimp shit, then you aint gon' feel the album.
The African American race is to blame for the violence in this counrty. You people continue to promote the criminal life. Why is it a good thing to have a police record? What is so great about being a convicted felon? All African Americans (especially you young black males) are criminal thugs and low lives who need to be put away and the keys thrown away. It is because of you people that more prisons are being built.

About GODDAMN time somebody admitted it!! As a 14 year UGK Fan, I can honestly say Bun B's Trill was the most overrrated album I've heard in forever. Niggas down here were actually calling it a classic. It didn't feature any life changing verses from Bun B, and it didn't display any of his killer flows that he's known for (i.e. Grand Finale, Big Pimpin, Trap or Die, Picture Perfect, etc..)
Bun started spittin all that fire for other people until he just ran out. I'm sorry, but UGK has seriously slipped.

I got the album, and for a ugk fan its somewhat of a dissapointment. I think the fact that pimp c had so much buzz goin on it kind of hyped the album a little too much. Pimp C and Bun B need to stop making solos and just focus on UGK. Pimp C said he didnt think Sweet James Jones Stories was a real album, cause it was mostly old stuff, but that album was definitely better than Pimpalation. Bun B said he was dissapointed with Trill. I can understand they are well respected rappers and they need are trying to make that money, but I think they both know they need each other to make some quality music.

man whoever reviewed this is really hating. What I don't get is why it's a suprise that mannie fresh produced the best song on the album. Mannie has been one of the most underrated producers for a really long time. Real talk it ain't too many producers fuckin with him. Pimpalation is 1 million percent better than the Sweet Jones album. And, Bun B's album was better than both of them. Trill is a DEFINITELY a classic in the South. It damn near went platinum despite releasing only 1 SINGLE.
I can tell most people on this blog are not from the South. Here's why. UGK STANDS FOR UNDERGROUND KINGZ. Their music is not for the radio. Stop evaluating their music like it's a fucking Kanye West album. Compare UGK to Geto Boys or Too Short. You know other rappers that don't give a shit about radio play or the pop audience.

Well honestly the album is average at best. I understand repping for the nigg pimp c but the album isn't fire. I was highly dissapointed. It sounded rushed and the lyrics were subpar. The production is what really surprised me because it was horrible. Sorry to break it to you but Trill did not almost go platinum. I might be wrong but i dont even think it was certified gold. You might want to peep the actual numbers before just making up shit. I was waiting on a new UGK album but if it's anything like this shit and the Trill album then i shall pass. They still got it in them to make a classic so i aint giving up on them niggs. The problem with a lot of the albums from tx artist has been the production. Chamillionaire was spitting on every track but he had weak production. Bun B album had weak production but lyrically he did his thing. This pimp c album has weak production. Slim Thug and Paul Wall both had better production in my opinon. I hope niggs dont come at me with that im a hater shit because that shit get old. Im just stating my opinion.

I'm happy to see people stepping up for the Pimp, the guy who reviewed this album is clearly an idiot. The only beef I had with the album was that there were too many other guest rappers, it kind of diluted the Pimp. I guess everybody and their sister wanted to get in line for this one, and Pimp had to show love to all those who screamed Free Pimp C. This album announces that Pimp C is back.
That business about Trill being undewhelming is bullshit. Trill was the shit, no two ways about it. I've always thought that Bun and C work well together, but that at the end of the day it was Bun who carried the songs with his deep flows, and Pimp C just added that edge, the attitude. That's why I think Bun's solo album came across a little stronger.
That said, the next UGK album is going to be off the hook, make no mistake. The younger guys like Paul Wall and Mike Jones have benefited from UGK (who in turn benefited from the legacy of Face and the Geto Boys), and they have represented and paid repsect. The whole nation now knows UGK, and when they drop their next album (assuming it's UGK with LIMITED appearences from other rappers), even the haters will pay their respects.
