I received an email from the Houston High folks today. Here's the banner for all you wannabe emcees:

The year isn't over yet but '06 is still looking wishy-washy as far as the dirty south goes. Still, a few gems have dropped this year, songs that make you wanna lean wit' it, rock wit it.
10. K-Rino - You Never Know
This is how eulogies are supposed to be done. AC Chill must be smiling in his grave.
9. Da Backwudz - You Gonna Luv Me
From their impressive debut Woodwork comes this scintillating offshoot of the Jennifer Holliday soul sonic, "And I'm Telling You." This song helped Dallas Austin get through one month in jail.
8. Juvenile - Get Ya Hustle
Juvy tells folks how to pimp FEMA and infiltrate the cocaina market, but forgets to tell them how avoid the ensuing jail term.
7. Rob G - Houston Got a Problem
This song ruffled some shoulders earlier this year, further solidifying the fact that Houston's got a problem named Rob G. Universal better give him some push when it's all said and done.
6. Scarface ft. The Game and Beanie Sigel - Never Snitch (Remix)
Granted, the no snitching movement has now become epitome of stupidity. But that was after 'Face legitimized it with headphone favorites like this.
5. Ludacris - War with God
Luda back in top form, serving 'the enemy' a piece of his own slice. Best battle track of the year so far.
4. OutKast - Mighty "O"
Their first song together since 2000 sounds better than most out there.
3. Chamillionaire - Ridin'
This song is played out, yes. But get the haterade outta your system and admit that you loved it the first time you ever heard it.
2. Trae ft. Pimp C & Fat Pat - Swang (Remix)
The difference between Trae and everyone else that claims to be the future of southern rap is that Trae knows how to write songs. The remix jams even harder than original. If only the Pimp had more verses like this on his album.

Looks like your boy will be going to another concert real soon. Rakim the greatest rapper alive is coming to Houston in September. Houston's own V-Zilla (one of the future H-Town rappers mentioned here) will be performing as well. Details are still sketchy. But here's the skinny for now:

Luda's War With God wasn't even a completely song - they cut off the last verse. Ridin wasn't even the best song on Chamillionaire's CD, and even if it was, the CD dropped in 2005. By that same logic, you could put Lil Wayne's Hustler's Music. You put Scarface on the list with a song with 2 dudes that aren't even from the south? And speaking of Face - what about The Product? They have numerous tight songs on the CD, espically a song called 'Read' You Gonna Luv Me by the Backwoodz is old as hell. The song actually dropped in 2004, it's just the CD that dropped this year. Lil Flip could have made the list. The whole album isn't tight, but there are a few songs that really are.
In all seriousness, you can honestly tell who doesn't really listen to southern music - SOHH just constantly seem to embarass themselves trying to sound like they're up on game. I'm not being negative, I'm just saying at least put someone on here that actually KNOWS the genre they're writing for.

Well genius, the problem is the whole song HASN'T BEEN RELEASED YET!!! If you read, it even said it on this very website that when they released the song, the final verse was intentionally cut off. As a result, very few people (if any) actually have the whole song.

I guess you missed the point entirely. If the song is availible to only a select few, how can it be counted? They don't play the whole thing on the radio, and most mixtapes don't have the entire version either. Even AHH has the short version. That's like me including bootleg songs off a leaked Project Pat album that was never officially released. I might as well included some of Lil Wayne's bootleg joints then.

Scarface is from Houston, Malice is from Mississippi. Only Will Hen is from the Cali. And like you said, Scarface is still a southern artist.

Hip hop fans lit up Internet message boards when Ludacris dropped his very serious “War With God†track. Some fans said Luda’s track was aimed at T.I.. Others said that Luda’s lines were intended for Young Jeezy.
After the heavy speculation, Ludacris is finally revealing who “War With God†was aimed at.
"It's about me. That's what the record is about. The record is about me,†Luda told MTV.com. "A lot of people are saying a lot of things about that record. That record right there is so much more about me being honest about myself. And I feel it's me distinguishing myself from what a lot of the rest of the music industry is doing. I'm tired of being compared.

Ludacris, who’s usually known for his extra witty rhyme style, said he felt compelled to do the serious “War With God†track, after he felt rappers and even journalists were taking subliminal shots at him.

You could take 2-3 albums from those artists in their prime and compare it against Biggie easily. How you gonna go song for song with 2 albums? I see your point, but you made a very bad argument. Southerners like to have fun, party and get that necessary money..it's hot down here, nothing else to really do, and many of the jobs went up North..now they're coming back down south...we are friendly states..we don't have all this strife if you come down..if you're down here..we know you're here to have a good time or you got family down here..unless you're just messing up or going in the wrong neighborhoods messing up...it's all good. All the fun stuff occurs down here to cut loose.. Mardi Gras, Freak NIC, etc..people vacation in Florida alot..in fact..it's a retirement state for the elderly.
The East coast has hot rappers but sometimes the grandiose attitudes of SOME the artists from NY turn people OFF. DMX was upset at one point for having so many sales but didn't get an award for something but it takes more than JUST the hype/sales in New York to gain national acclaim status. You have to appeal to the whole world..not to just ONE STATE. And the world sees the cut throat antics you do to each other. That was cold how Busta got on a cut with 50 and basically dogged JA and then turned around and called him homie? DAMN..who needs FRIENDS?..and the big secret is..if all of the NY rappers came TOGETHER...while Tupac and BIGGIE were alive..(and even now)and did a track like Busta did with Missy, Mary, DMX, etc..that shit would be hot. It would have been nice to hear Biggie, Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas, DMX, all on something together bringing it. YOu get respect from being UNIFIED..not divided.
