To SOHH Southern:
I realize that you give a positive opinion about every album that you talk about... which is cool. Somewhat biased, but cool. But to say that Gucci Mane's "Trap House" was a hood classic is over the top. I heard some of it, and I wasn't that impressed. The content of it was the same shit that all the others rap about, within the genre of Trap music. Nothing special... the album was average, at best. I realize that Atlanta is supportive of their people. But as a blog master, you should give a more objective opinion of the albums that you review, so that those who choose to buy it won't be led astray (and possibly disappointed) by your comments. The bigger issue that Gucci Mane faces is if he will be able to bounce back from the situation he had with Young Jeezy, and still be able to achieve national airplay. I wish him luck with his sophomore attempt, but I'd appreciate your real opinion of his first and latest albums.

I will agree with that statement. I would add it's an album you can pop in and listen too from begining to end over and over. Put it away for awhile, pop it back in and it still gives you that same feeling.

BUT IVE SAID THIS BEFORE SOME PEOPLE AGREED AND SOME DISAGREE A ARTIST COULD HAVE CLASSIC MATERIAL ON A ALBUM BUT BECAUSE THEY PUT TOO MANY TRACK IT TURN TO GREAT BUT NOT CLASSIC. LAST ALBUM LIKE THIS IS LIL WAYNE THE CARTER 2 WHY DO ARTIST FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE TO PUT 18 TRACKS ON A ALBUM. 12 TRACKS IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY EVEN 10 REALLY GREAT TRACKS IS GOOD FOR ME.10 TRACKS WITH NO MORE THAN 3 FEATEURES. ICANT SAY BUSTA AND GHOST NEW ALBUM ARE CLASSIC BECAUSE IVE NEVER HEARD IT.

Gucci Mane Trap House is a hood classic, fuck what these other niggas talking bout. Yeah Gucci run Eastside of Atlanta. Bounce back from what Jeezy did to him? Nigga please....one thing about Jeezy is that he tried to assassinate Gucci and his character, cause Jeezy a bitchmade nigga that never came close to putting in work like Gucci.
Gucci used to rob niggas for real, and almost didnt get signed to Big Cat for that reason alone.
Dont let these magazines and shyt fool yall, any mufucka like Jeezy can wear bandanas and portray an image, but a fake ass nigga like Jeezy is pussy enough to send some killers after Gucci, and got Pooki Loc shot.
Trap House/ Big Cat all day...Gucci Mane Laflare!!

You already know. Real niggas who be in the hood know about Gucci. Jeezy did his thing to, but that was with the help of BMF. Gucci was puttin in work on the east from Moreland Ave. to Maynard Terrace. It seem like the niggas that these lame rap stans clown be the real niggas. Like everybody think that Jeezy punked Gucci cuz they sent them goons after him. What they dont know is that Gucci really was gettin money in East Atlanta in a major way, for years. Same with Shawty Lo from D4L. Folk clown them, but Lo been ringin out on the westside since i was a little boy. That shit he be talkin about when he pulled up niggas used to salute him was true, when Lo say he the man, he aint playin. Ask them boys in Bowen Homes who runs shit over there. Fat Steve and Lo are the real westside kings.

No offense homie, but you're probably just too young. The Chronic was probably the most influential rap album made in the last 15 years. It's like 2Pac - the shit wouldn't sound the same now, because everyone has incoorporated his style into their music. But when it dropped back in the day, it was unlike ANYTHING that was around, and it kept a big lead for at least 5 years.
@Black Friday,
Hard Knock Life was his biggest selling album, but it's probably his worst lyrically. I'll give it to Black Album before I give it to that one.
Just my opinion though.

What Dudes? Talib Kweli is far from book smart, and neither is Common. Kweli has a lot of radical views, espically when it comes to religion. He also speaks on rebellion against the system, usually based on basic principles - not anything "deep" at all. Common raps a lot about love, the hood, and society. He sees the same things everyone else sees, he just chooses to rap about them.
Neither one of them are book smart. They just choose to rap about what they see.

@ NYSAGGER :
First off dumb ass, I never said anything about sales making the album a classic...I called Hard knock a classic because of the music and nothing else...I have every Jay album too and hard knock is absolutely one of my favorites...And when the nigga said he wouldve been rapping like common sense and talib he wasn't talkig about black power raps...He was talking about being lyrical....
Just like you said the Chronic wasn't a classic(which is crazy to me)...Everybody has different views on whats a classic, that's what this discussion is about...

I DIDNT REALLY SIT DOWN AND LISTEN TO PAC UNTIL THAT MOVIE CAME OUT LIKE 2 YEARS AGO AND NOW HES MY SECOND FAVORITE RAPPER OF ALL TIME BEHIND NAS. BUT WHENEVER I RELL PEOPLE I DONT THINK THE CHRONIC WAS A CLASSIC THEY TELL ME THE SAME THING U DID SO I UNDERSTAND WHERE UR COMING FROM. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE I HATE COMPLITION ALBUM WHICH WAS WHAT THAT ALBUM PRETTY MUCH WAS.
Posted by: NYSWAGGER at September 21, 2006 09:36 AM
I co-sign that G-Dep statement nyswagger. The problem is that u faggots are suck dickriders. Afraid to make your own opinions in fear of what others may think of you. And these bullshit magazine publications most likely jerked him in the album ratings because he was in the videos dancin with diddy. They knew they would receive some ill backlash. Yall need to check out these songs on Child of the Ghetto- Everyday, Keep It Gangsta, Smash On the First Night, Danger Zone, I Want the World to See, etc...
And the same applies to people who keep mentioning certain rappers as the greatest of all time because they were shot and killed. These individuals are indeed legendary and were the greatest once upon a time. But how can you deny someone that has done the same thing as good as them but for a longer period of time. (non-stop) fuck it... that nigga did it better than them. Props to mtv for doing the right thing and naming Jay as the greatest of all time. It's ok yall. Fuck popular opinion and what most of the media wants u to believe. It's perfectly ok to look at the facts and analyze them in order to formulate your own opinion.

AND THAT WAS THE BIGGEST SONG OF THAT SUMMER.KILLER MIKE FIRST ALBUM WAS A CLASSIC BUT IM FROM THE SOUTH SO I KNOW IM GET HATE FOR THAT 1. To flinttown:
What is classic about Lupe Fiasco's new album? I didn't even hear the whole thing, but what I have heard (even the the song that is on the homepage of this forum) is wack. He lyrically sounds like a mid-90's "backpack" artist. I don't understand what makes him noticable. Lyrically, he's i-ight, but that skateboarding shit has gotta go... Now, I will give him props for attempting to create another facet of Hip-Hop, but that's about it.
Posted by: Versatile at September 21, 2006 11:11 AM

r u serious. since u havent listened to the whole cd im not gonna say much. but lupe brings somethin totally new to the table that hip hop has desperately needed. he doesnt talk about killin ppl in all his songs but he talks about that niggas from the hood c everyday. and as far as his lyrics ther literally on another level. ppl have been talkin bout hip hop is dead and there is nothing lyrical about hip hop anymore, well lupe cd is proof that real hip hop is still alvie. listen to the cd

Classic albums don't have any tracks to fast forward, changed the game in some way at their release, and can still be bumped 10 or 20 years from now without sounding outdated.
1. The Chronic (things aint been the same since).
2. Built 4 Cuban Linx (mafia style)
3. Enter the Wutang 36 Chambers
4. The Minstrel Show (Southern rap but nobody can tell)
5. Paid in Full (brought lyricism & new flows 2 the game)
6. Straight outta Compton.
7. The great adventures of Slick Rick
8. Long Live the Kane (Jay and Biggie's blueprint)
9. Southernplayalistic
10.In the Last Dayz
Anything else you done heard has borrowed an element from these classics.

Outkast (2)-southernplayalistic, aquemini

UGK(1)- ridin dirty
Cash Money-(2) 400 degreez and guerilla warfare
BIG-Both albums

Rakim-Paid in full
Public enemy-takes a nation of millions
Dr. Dre-chronic

And if ya'll aint never heard "Ridin Dirty" from UGK ya'll need to go get it. Especially all ya'll who think Pimp C cant rap. Thats the first album i ever bought, and please believe that was 12 dollars well spent. I used to ride and smoke to that one all day.
Now on to Gucci Mane. Dude is aight to me. I dont know if I would ever by one of his albums tho. He just aint said nothin that has caught me. Even though Black Tee went hard than a bitch when it first came out to me.
Posted by: texas_swang_harder at September 21, 2006 07:35 PM
I was feeling Gucci Mane's 1st album in my opinion rapping is pretty much about telling a story and I say he did a good job with Trap House and also I want to co-sign anybody feeling G-Dep's 1st album that shit was hot I don't give a shit what anybody has to say about that. Just to get a taste of the type of shit G-Dep was on, I recommend that u download the track "everyday (remix)" that joint was blazin' especially with Faith on the hook!

Just had to comment on NYSWAGGER comment on the LATE, GREAT 2PAC. So Pac never had a classic? Nigga what the fuck u smoking? "Me Against The World" and "Makaveli" go into the hiphop hall of fame. From front 2 back I can listen and won't skip a track. "2Pacalypse Now" and "Strikly 4 My Niggaz" raised a nation of black men. Before u say something stupid and ignorant like that, go cop a sack of kush, roll it,light it,smoke it, turn off the playstation, turn the system on, sit back and listen to what Pac was spittin at y'all simple minded niggas. On his worst verse he comes harder than your favorite rapper ever spit. YOUNGIN.

How could I forget:
Illmatic
ATLiens
Only Built For Cuban Linx
Ironman (Honorable Mention-Supreme Clientele)
Eminem came close a few times, but never quite got one.

How the hell is Illmatic a classic?
What you niggas fail to realize is that all the other classics listed were recognized as such outside their reigon.
UGK - Ridin Dirty
OutKast - take your pick
2Pac - take your pick
Scarface - The Fix
Dr Dre - The Chronic
Snoop - Doggystyle
Juvenile - 400 Degreez
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Eighball & MJG - Comin' Out Hard
Notice a trend? All those albums got play all over the map. Illmatic barely sold outside of NY, and it doesn't appeal to people who don't like that old east coast style rap - it just doesn't. I know you all are gonna start bitchin but I'm sorry it's the truth.
And BTW, Scarface My Homies was mediocre at best. It was a compilation album. The nigga wasn't even on every song, so how the hell is that a classic?
Posted by: RapIsAlive at September 21, 2006 09:33 PM
to dat dude que i got to give you love on that lost album. That was certified classic
Posted by: NorthernCalafoolya at September 21, 2006 09:43 PM
More Universal Classics:
Notorious B.I.G. - ehhh maybe both
Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Nightmare, Death Certificate
N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton
Eric B & Rakim - Paid In Full
Too Short - Life is Too Short
Southern Classics:
Trick Daddy - www.thug.com
Dirty - The Pimp and the Gangsta
Eightball & MJG - the first 3 albums
BG - Chopper City (the first one)
Project Pat - Mista Don't Play
UGK - Super Tight
Big Tymers - I Got That Work
Pastor Troy - We Ready I Declare War
On some lyrica shit, Nappy Roots is dope
And BTW, you nigga suck. None of you even mentioned Run-DMC's Raising Hell, or Tougher Than Leather.
I'm kidding. Don't be so emmotional.

Seriously, please explain to me how Me Against the World wasn't a classic because im lost with that comment. In my opinion that was his most complete album ever. It was better than Makaveli or All Eyez On Me.That nigga had a song for every emotion on that cd. He touched hella topics and kept it gutter without really preaching to a nigga. I know a lot of niggas think All Eyez on Me is his best work and it is fire in my opinion but Me Against the World had few guest appearances and had Pac in rare form. Damn im bout to go play that shit now. You mfs be eazy

When you mentioning things going on, on the Westside do not call name and do not mention neighbor, Reddogs be reading this too!. And to be honest none of that b.s is classic unless 250 years from now somebody playing your song like they do Mozart so keep it real!

Jay's got 2 classics (Blueprint, Reasonable Doubt)...Ras Kass' Soul on Ice is also a classic, but slept on. Last but not least, the Chronic was, beyond a DOUBT, a classic. It birthed a SOUND. Just like 36 Chambers (classic) did. Classics have got to make the skip button obsolete. (shoutout to the people hitting the rewind on their walkman!). I don't own a lot of the Southern stuff on this list, but I'd definitely give the nod to Fix but you all are definitely too damn young...
Pete Rock & CL Smooth? Pharcyde? Slum Village? Gangstarr? Kool G. Rap? These cats have CLASSICS. Gucci Mane should not even be in the same category, village, continent, hemisphere, whatever. PLUS, has anyone ever heard Ras Kass' Van Gogh? (Not d--- ridin, but I only skip two tracks and its got like 18). GMR (getcha mind right). I'm out. Peace

i know im coming in late as hell on this blog but damn...THE CHRONIC not a classic ? Other than the album bangin'...you gotta understand Dre redefined hip hop with that album. The G-Funk Era. It was the unveiling of Snoop Dogg, who at that time was lyrically killing the entire game. But i'm sure most of us on this blog agree with the Chronic's place in history anyway. Oh yeah, Jay-Z's BluePrint is a classic.

I never understand why you niggas hate on Nelly so much. It's obvious that you don't get laid.
People who go out and party and blow money don't have a problem with Nelly. It's you niggas that live at the computer that hate him, not us party go-ers.
The nigga ain't never don't shit to me.
Anyways, off to work...
