[REALITY CHECK BELOW THIS BOX]
People simply don't give a fuck no more. Gnarles barkely is by far one of the most inovative new sounds that hip-hop has done this year with two stand up artists who have both industry and popular respect. With that being true, nobody in the A even thought twice about purchasing a classic. This album will be bumped long after d4l. Long after young joc. and dayum sure long after young jeezy. no offense i like these cats. but come on they write a cd pure year. they write songs in the spand of three days. produce one really good single, followed by 2 mediocre ones, and sell it to us for 18 dollars. Be real nobody has put out an album in the last two years that is still in your cd player. why ? because quality is something us in the U.S. do not recognize. Its a fucking shame when the U.K. can appreciate and give they hard earned dollars to something that is actually worth the doe. Shit, we give our money to see lil jon and scrappy, we give our doe to go see 50 cent. but ask yourself, if they did not release a album for the next 3 years would you not continue to purchase music ? would you even care if they stopped recording and would you want to know what is going on in those peoples personal lives since they dropped the mic ? NO, i dont think your would, typical people would just crown a new yahoo of hip-hop who double talks and battles niggas from another state they never talked to and like idiots we buy it and in three years that artists is on some local lable trying to recapture there glory days because all the produces who had heat dropped the dude because they realized the new rap king is sellin more albums. BULLSHIT, get the fuckin cd its gangsta, dont let the whole world think americans are dumb. wait we are, because we put camron in the number one spot his first week out. yet nobody buys the poisen pen album ? i digress.

I haven't heard the Gnarls Barkley CD..I heard that one single, and it's hot. I hope it catches on here in the US..bring something back to hip hop. Hip Hop is music...MAAANNN!!! That's a hard argument to win when battling that fact with someone looking from the outside in on Hip Hop. But Cee-Lo brings that truth back to the front in everything he touches.

That Gnarls Barkley CD is garbage. The only good song on there is "Crazy". I've tried to listen to the other songs on the album on numerous occassions and I can't stomach them.
Im not one who has tunnel vision when it comes to music either. I like unique material, but unfortunately the best thing about Gnarls Barkley are the costumes in the live performances.
Go waste your money if you want, or just download that bullshit to settle your curiousity.

"Gnarles Barkley gets no play in my hood, because they're ain't gangsta, they ain't rappin about bein' real slangin' rocks or pimpin' hoes so fuck them."
That was an actual quote from a young knucklehead in the hood, in the words of Phonte from Little Brother; "Don't beat it off, cum 2 your senses, lil' nigga"

Finally, somebody worth responding to on this topic. I THINK Goodie MOB has a new album coming out in September. I don't think Outkast will be too big a part of the album though. I might be wrong, but I believe Cee-Lo and Big Boi had some kind of disagreement about some statements Cee-Lo made about Dungeon Family.
Posted by: Chevy G. Hustle at June 21, 2006 10:56 AM
The GB album is very different took me a long time to feel the album, it through me off in the beginning b/c I didn't know who the hell was Gnarles Barkely, thought some cat was trying to sound like Cee Lo, the dud has always been out their, listen to allof GOODIE MOB albums and you'll see and including his last two ablums, he has always been creativly different... for some apparent reason the ablum is selling
Posted by: trp at June 21, 2006 10:58 AM
You are surprised Atlanta didnt pick it up? Are you Joking...no seriously your the editor of an online mag and your surprised that ATLiens didnt pick up Gnarls Barkley. Ima say this. Dangermouse did the smartest thing ever, and hes gonna be followed. He went to Europe to get his real hip hop big. You cant get true hip hop big in the States anymore thanks to ignorant people like the ones that post on this site. HIP HOP IS DEAD in America. I live in VA by the way. You think Crazy would of played on US radio had it not been number one in England? Capitalism ruined Hiphop music, not to mention the idiot fans.

I can't get that song out of my head. I like it, and I like the video. Although you'll rarely see it on BET. It's bout time a video matches what the song is about.
Posted by: Truth be Told at June 21, 2006 10:59 AM
to answer your goodie mob album, their will be none, big gipp is doing is own thing kujo goodie and the other cat has their own label, they put out an album two years ago that nobody new about. when goodie put out the monkey album their was contractual disagreement, cee-lo is on a 3 album deal with arista(?) so that album couldn't be done. Outkast album should be tight, but don't expect for a show, DF has falling off they just can't/ will not produce artists other than outkast, that's their damn fault to much talent in the tank, that they are not even goingt drop, matter fact look at the last couple of folks DF produced slim cutta, and that other cat from the calhoun family all garbage, DF is basically washed, they ain't hittin' on nothing

St. Elsewhere is great music PERIOD
they never claimed it to be a rap album, and i might be wrong, but i dont know if Cee Lo and Dangermouse have even classified it. The beats are musical yet with good bass, and Cee-Lo, well you peeps in ATL already know the deal, wat an incredible singer/songwriter. I think this album is somewhere between Hip-Hop, Funk, and Soul, and basically everything else that has come to define to African American music community. I dont know if people aren't welcoming it because it's a white boy on the track, pulling it all of beautifully or what the deal is?
it's great MUSIC pure in form
perhaps you've forgotten what music is wat with all the snaps and laffy taffys we have these days
just pick it up and listen
PEACE
p.s. u right, why hasn't the South and especially ATL picked up on this?? IT"S CEE LO GREEN THE SOUL MACHINE god dammit!

I think the Gnarls Barkley album is dope. especially track number 8. them steppin out of the norm is gonna set a trend and expand what hip-hop can be. the same cats hatin on Gnarls are the same cats that were hatin on Andre 3000 for switching his game up. for all the cats on this blog that only want to hear cats rap about killing, dope, money, cars and hoes. i wish we could send yall niggas to the moon. that way yall could ride spinners and shoot each other till it aint none of yall left. that way real brothas like myself can rebuild and educate our people. no body would miss a bunch of ignorant niggas.

I'm actually a BIG CEELO FAN
he spits alot of true, honest
& down to earth shit. I respect him alot cause he has his beliefs but doesn't condemn anyone else.
This song is fire, the video is tight to. But, I never knew Knarls Barkley was actually Ceelo
I thought Knarls was a producer or something and Ceelo collaborated with him. Now that I know, I gonna buy it.
Busta new joint is hot too!
But it's different there ain't a gang of commercial songs on it and some of the joints grow on you after 2 listens.
Anyone know what happened to Ceelo's album with Jazzy Pha some of those songs were hot too!

As a result of this blog I'm gonna give it another chance. But you've heard the album is anyone really surprised it's not getting airplay, Cee-lo's album didn't really get any airplay so I wouldn't expect this to either. Not liking the record doesn't make us ignorant, only means we don't like the record...
Posted by: "Serious Business": at June 21, 2006 11:46 AM
I'm not implying that if you don't like this record you're ignorant. what i'm saying is if all you want to listen to is music with a negative image you're ignorant and no good to us as a people.

You all are so dumb arguing over minor shit that you missed the obvious:
GNARLS BARKLEY ISN'T EVEN A HIP HOP ALBUM!!!
I own the cd, and I've listened to it from beginning to end several times, and nothing about it even closely resembles Hip Hop. Hell if you actually look, you'll see that most websites have it labeled as Pop or something of that nature. So if you don't like the CD it's not that it sucks - it's that you don't have a taste for any kind of music outside rap.
Just because Cee-Lo is doing the vocals that doesn't automatically make it a rap album.
@Banga,
Cee-Lo said the label took entirely too long to release it, and at this point they might as well shelve it.
Damn I wish they had some kind of registration or somethin... The internet as a whole is hell when the kids are out for summer

Get used to it, we got all types of music covered for yall haters- Gangsta rap, dance rap, r&b, crunk&B, neo-soul. Fuc all haters we are the new MOTOWN.

So I really dont know what the blog writer is talkin about. Its just good music. This is just one more example of how we got not just the rap game, but the music game in a chokehold right now. We got Gangsta rap, dance rap ( what yall lames call snap), r&b, ol school soul, neo soul, shit even jazz. We got urban music on lock period here in the A. We r the 2000 MOTOWN, thats why all these niggas hate it. Cuz a city so small got the game in a head lock right now. Oh yeah LMAO@ these "yoson" NY cats gettin all hype cuz Busta sold 250K, this nigga aint even sell half of what Tsold his first week, but u wouldnt know it how crunk these cats are. Wow, for a rap vet like Busta 250K aint that hot. His fan base alone should have him at 500K. He wont even break Plat. Shit Young Joc sorry ass hit 175K his first time out the box. Get mad niggas

Cee-Lo is a pure genius coming out of the ATL and this is by far one of the best albums to come this year. I bought T.I., Juvenile, Too-Short, J-Dilla, Suga-Free, Donnell Jones, 3-6 Mafia, and hella other shit just to see what niggas was talkin' about and though some of that shit was cool, the Gnarls Barkley album is pure musical genius! serious business
it's time to get serious. what i'm saying is if we keep portraying our selves as gun totting coons we will never advance as a people. just look at how we influence our own people to kill each other and degrade themselves for material possesions. the truth is most of these cats who are talking about pimping or being gangsta on records are getting pimped by record companies and strong armed out of the money their skills generate. no to mention we beef over theses artists like they are gods. you don't think record company execs arent kicking back laughing at us? as far as your movie comment goes most movies that star black actors only further perpetuate negative stereotypes, but black actors do it for the money anyway. there's something more valuable then money in the word. dignity and respect. example when antoine fisher first came out it was hard as hell to get black folks to see that movie. i went opening night and it was full of white people. me and some of my folks started promoting the movie. not for money but because it showed us as something more than "niggas". maybe because we are conditioned to prefer negative shit we won't support the positive. i don't know.
serious business this isnt a diss and i have no interest in e-beef. it's only an opinion

Whatcha got a skating ring and a one level mall? LOL, Atleast think about moving to the A or the MAC. damn nigga. No wonder why you so lame. Back to the topic though, that Gnarl's Barkley is the truth!

GB album is tight if you like more than just pimps, hoes, crack, and guns.... Expand your musical horizons, damn!
I think its funny how Walls talks so much shit on this to people he'll never meet. You're sooooo fucking gangsta...
It looks like you're always on here blogging at 11am. Get a job, or do something with your life..... fucking loser.

Fool..you don't know nothin bout the real WarTown, soundin like straight momma's boy. Talkin bout the skatin rink, mall and the base...blog on blogger. Run up in Sewell Circle with ya chest out, or Vickie Lynn chump. Swell an out of towners eye in the War...it's happened too many times. Big city children comin thru the War claimin big time and get stomped the fuck out nigga. Roll through anywhere North of Green street and pop that big city noise, you'll smell what the dirty dirty brews up when there ain't shit to do but hustle and jack out of towners.
PS: When you comin off base sucka...be sure you take Watson clear up past the numbered roads...you might not get far after dark, Mark.
It's that NORTHSIDE!

The album is great, bottom line. whether it be played in europe, the u.s or canada, its dope. and its a soul album, cuz its too deep for r&b and cee lo sings most of the time so its not rap or hip hop. if anything, maybe ud have to classify it the same as tricky (from europe for those who dont know) as trip-hop. dfb sucks and should all be shot, so should d4l. faggots. if people dont like this album, if u can, try just to get accapellas, and try to appreciate some serious lyrics.
Posted by: steve833 at June 21, 2006 7:55 PM
The Album is one of the best pieces of work this year it deserves a hell of alot more recognition cee-lo did his thing with the vocals and dangermouse was crazy (no pun intended) with the beats. stop sleeping on this masterpiece

I co-sign ascap_iz_a_must. Its a damn shame when niggas in America can't see whats good music especially when its comin from your own people. Niggas in the UK been up on Gnarls way before you Stateside dudes. Too many ignorant muthafuckas in America, all you wanna hear about is niggas on the corner sellin white, grow up niggas, get yourself an education, read a book, appreciate good music. St Elsewhere is a classic.

It’s been so funny reading this long ass blog debate, so I thought I drop a long ass comment. I’m a 25 year old black woman living in South London, firstly Gnarl's Barkley is the truth’ I agree!! (wall’s) been fed to much bullsh*t and makes some of you Americans look ignorant. It’s either one of too things; wall's is really a 12 year old who gets bullied and craves attention, or’ just some dumb ass ignorant mutherfucker. Its sad u walls types. are killing black muzic period!! Selling out u musta forgot about the message *** I leave U to figure it out!!
Its sad man. Listen! My advice to you is, get some knowledge, read some books, don’t be afraid to educate yourself. Take some time out to look at the powers of the government the white media and dumb ignorant black mutherfuckers like yourself!! Nar your probably a wigger coz u waste niggaz are suppose to be prehistoric.
Big up to [ill will] u broke it down 4 some of dee’s clownz earlier! And to Ice dream/ Jugg 1/ MR.ikonz/ Pz / Triple 7s/ Dass / lone Nigerian/ ascap_iz_a_must and any one who aint a [walls’] vanilla ice cream ass, Wig=ger than big up! One!
Respect to [Philly love] but still though man, why is it, that so many black Americans feel as if African American equates black, there are so many types of black people experiencing the same bull shit, all over tha world brotha not tryin to patronize or single you out, but we blacks from Oprah right down to Cee-Lo have enough cash and (should-be sense) to reclaim and restore the riches of the most resourceful continent on the planet, sucked dry by vultures. That’s why I never call my self Black British although I was born here and have live here all my life, just because they give you that box to tick don’t mean it has to be ticked, We Black period, AFRICAN!!!
[Rap is dead] although I gather your point earlier because, people try to bung too much shit into Hip Hop culture and rap’ music but dat tune Crazy’ is still from the same essence of black music like the Cab-Calloway’s and before’. But respect all the same.
[Real Hip-Hop] you make me laugh wid dat Lil Jon shit (nice to c a sense of humor on here)! Although I would not exactly call this hip-hop, more like what [Philly love] described as “Hip-Hop, Funk, and Soul, and basically everything else that has come to define to African [American]??? Rather-Black African music community”
Although I have made the whole basis of my analysis on just the track crazy’ coz I haven’t event heard the album yet’
But I still say that the beat and vocal is tight. Just that some of u [walls] types don’t understand what he is already breaking down in that tune. Coz if you did u wouldn’t be so dumb to even suggest some anti-christ shit or whatever dumb shit u think its bout. That song is mind freeing, like the one of my lines (A MAZE IN THE MIND) u clowns just congested with Sh*t. which means your full of it!!!!! . BrRRaaaaPPPPPPPP!!!!
Peace to my Soul-Jar Brotha’s & Sista’s!!!!

...if u wondered why my comment was so long? it was to try and help u ignorant walls types so read this first, then get your mummy and ask her to help you read my previous long ass comment... coz like the white man said Black People don't read the best way to hide some thing from a black person is to put it in a book. nor do dumb wanna be white boyz and girls who wanna be down!!! SAD!!!

Rap star DMX's problems continue with the law, as the chart topping artist was cited for carrying a concealed handgun outside of a Scottsdale, Arizona nightclub on Friday (June 16).
According to police, DMX was stopped near Scottsdale nightclub Buzz, after they saw him take a handgun and place it underneath the front seat of the car he was driving, a 1964 Chevy convertible.

Odhis : What up son? I asked you a question last time you were bloggin but I don't think you saw it, are there any fire African rappers I need to check for?
Posted by: EnglandRepresent at June 22, 2006 1:30 AM
My bad England rep, what's good......yeah we got some fire MC's but i don't know whether u can get yo hands on their ish out there in the UK......I'm in Kenya by theway, in East Africa....no it's not like East London....i'm playin..
we got this groups of really conscious/street rappers, they like wu-tang(about 26 mc's) called Ukooflani maumau, they just dropped an album called dandora burning....
then we got jua cali, he usually tours the U.K, he's got a joint called bidii yangu(my effort) that's killin em....
there's this kenyan producer based in the U.K called sir prestige, he put out a joint some years back called social misfits n he was back here last month to do a few joints with this kid called doobeez n it's bangin out of every hiphop head's music system.....
then there is STL, Kantai, Jahmani, Walanguzi, die hard, but these are mostly local......
if u listen to bbc xtra(i don't think u do coz i don't) one of our dj's, dj edu has a show on there that plays a lot of kenyan stuff...or check out MTV base on the net for it....
from other countries there is black twang(ghana based in uk), skwatta kamp(some of the best rappers in tha continent from south africa), mode 9, Professa J, sir nature, proverb, n a whole bunch of cats, some who rap in the mother tongue so u may not understand it......but these are my fave ones.......
got to get back to work, my manager is highly suspicious bout the green screen.....I should be writing an ad copy........
PAMOJA!!!

RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!RA!
Posted by: Odhis at June 22, 2006 6:45 AM
I agree with the brothers who say that most folks don't have a tolerance for anything but violent RAP music. It's kind of refreshing to hear some shit that doesn't involve the obligitory shit we've become so familiar with.
The one record I absolutely hated when it was first released was "The Rebirth of Slick" by Digable Planets. At the time of that release, for me, it was all about Ice Cube, Dr Dre and all them east coast cats. Now, when I hear that song, that shit still be rockin'.
Gnarls Barkley WILL definately grow on folks. It's just a matter of time.
Peace all.
Posted by: Yeah I Said It!!! at June 22, 2006 8:16 AM
Gnarls Barkley sellin more records than Young Joc.....creative niggaz will always win in the long run.
Posted by: Decatur Bwoi at June 22, 2006 9:10 AM
I'm feeling the new Gnarls Barkley joint and others in the ATL are feeling it too. No doubt it's another innovation piece of work by Cee Lo himself.

I've listened to it again...it's some alternative shit...could someone tell me why it's groundbreaking again...sounds like you average abstract shit to me...please don't compare it to anything either...for example: "it's better than snap music or drug dealing rap music" thanks
Posted by: "Serious Business": at June 23, 2006 9:23 PM
Cee-lo is a fuckin' Genius. Pure Genius. That song was mad, It didn't have no snappin and leanin bullshit, It was real. The sound was different. I been prayin for God to save the game and this show that he answer prayer.
Nobody could have done that but Cee-lo a.k.a Gnarles Barkely. Original to tha tenth.

Gnarls Barkely (the album), is like being married for 20 years to the same woman, fucking her and slowly becoming bored with the same old pussy, then ONE day on your way to work you notice that a FINE, DIME PIECE, SLUT with a fat ass and some big ass titties just moved in next door!
Posted by: Travis at July 14, 2006 3:13 AM
WHy won't Cee-lo/ Gnarls do a show in the A? I would pay to see him perform!
Posted by: pinkchavonne at July 27, 2006 5:40 PM
Gnarls Barkley is whack! People are just running out of choices. It may sound good in comparison to today’s rap music but that shit ain’t hip hop. Plus, Dangermouse is a hit-and-miss producer. Even “Demon Dayz” is lukewarm. Gnarls is winning by default. People desperately want Dangermouse to be the white, savior who revolutionized hip hop. What’s sad is so many of these garbage ass rappers are letting this overrated clown have the crown. What’s so new and fresh about music that sounds retro?! Talk about irony! A fat black guy with a soulful, churchy voice singing over sampled, lo-fi beats.
