Let's put the east vs south thing aside for a minute and focus on good music. The Backwudz have a very decent/good debut album. On a scale of A-D I give it a B and this is why.

Beats- A

The beats are crazy. They have an old school feel and some old school samples, but they add that southern knock to complete it. It works well together.

Lyrics- B

They are not the best in the world, but are a lot better than a lot of the garbage rappers around today(north & south).

Creativity- B

When you are man enough to take a Willy Wonka beat and make it hot there is no other word to explain, but creative. Most of all they have talent and speak on real life subjects not just the same old radio or "gangsta" garbage. The reason for the B and not a A is that they have an Outkast/Dungeon Family kind of vibe.

Album Layout- C

This is low because of the order of the songs. Most of the radio friendly club songs are first, then a couple songs for the ladies are right in the middle, and then the last 6 or 7 songs are the real fire songs. I thought they should be spread out a little, but that's just me. The only thing that saves this catagory for me is the guest appearences by Nas, Slim Thug, Killa Mike, Sleepy Brown, George Clinton, Caz Clay, Bohagon, and Big Gipp. Not just the appearences, but how well they work on the songs they are on. The guest artist fit the songs they are on very well.

So overall if you just want to hear some up and coming talented rappers making good music and you are not stuck on that bull about the south can't rap and they country BS then I suggest you get this. Listen to it a couple times sober, and then get a glass of SoCo on the rocks with lime and put some kush in the air and enjoy this debut by some talented dudes.
