Memphis has many artists that have been doin they thing for a minute now and I think they hold more talent than most of the shit in ATL, but Memphis style is too buck for the crossover to airwaves. DJ Paul is the king of memphis, but they got DJ Squeeky, Gangsta Blac, Skinny Pimp, Al kapone, Tom Skeemask. Memphis is deep!!

Renouncing and Denouncing Use of The N-word
Hereby calling black people to renounce and denounce the use of the n-word.
Whereas, the n-word is, and has been defined as a degrading, demeaning, indecent, and obscene term applied to and associated with African-American people in America, and
Whereas, the n-word is, and has been used as a label of inferiority by the racist oppressors of African-Americans, and to place African-Americans at the lowest level of humanity, and
Whereas, the use of the n-word,NO MATTER WHO USES IT, is the most harmful, enduring symbol of slavery and Black oppression, and
Whereas, there is no positive or productive meaning of the "N" word in the written or spoken language, and
Whereas, the use of the n-word by African-Americans helps to create, maintain and perpetuate a slave mentality, and a negative self-concept of African-American people, and
Whereas, we the undersigned believe that a positive self image and a positive self concept are essential to the growth, development and empowerment of African-Americans.
Nigga is obviously more than just a word because you can get into too much trouble if you use it. The word reeks of hatred. Blacks say that it is a term of endearment.
- If the voice at the drive through says "hi Nigga, may I take your order?" you would have a problem.
-If your child's teacher sends home a note that says " Your child was a good Nigga today" you would have an issue.
- if your boss tells you that you are doing a great job and he/she says " I wish I had more Niggas like you" there would be a problem.
SO WHY DO WE CONTINUE TO IDENTIFY EACH OTHER AS NIGGAS?

well as a sidenote: stopusingthewordnigga, stop tryna post mess that dont got nothin to do wit the subject just to stir up controversy.
but as for the subject:
im not much into memphis music bein that i live in the atl and am therefore biased. BUT...from what i do hear 8Ball & MJG is straight. three six on the other hand is nothin but TRASH! them niggas cant rap and anyone who says they can needs to pay closer attention to they LYRICS! that shit is BOOTY! but still u never know...memphis could be on the come up.
Posted by: PoeticMiss at January 12, 2006 8:17 PM
Young Buck is one of the nicest lyricist in the south but he's not from Memphis. He's from Nashville(hints the name of his album) but that's neither here nor there. Tennesse has put out some pretty hot artist, MJG & 8Ball being on the top. triple Six might not be the greatest rappers ever but they're still fly hahaha. Corny but whatever. Some other folks will probably be reconized all to late. Maybe one day Mem-city can be smashing the game but Hip-Hop gots to get it together before anything else can happen.
Posted by: RemiFromDaSouf at January 12, 2006 9:07 PM
POETICMISS,
Listen brother, in no way am I trying to stir any controversy. Im just simple speaking the truth and people respond. How can we as blacks expect anyone to respect us when black such as yourself call each other nigga?
You doing the white mans work for him. Have more pride in your race , the word Nigga puts all of us down. You like it if a white person call you a nigga?
Posted by: stopusingthewordnigga at January 12, 2006 9:23 PM
I'm not going to keep explaining or asking what the fuck does substance have to do with making money. I just want you to ask yourself, when I see these niggas 36 mafia, do they look like they trying to make MONEY, or trying to make music with SUBSTANCE? If you look at the diamond encrusted shit on his hand, I think you'll get your answer.

I agree with you. white people brought us down for too long with that word and what does it matter if we take the "er" out and change it to an "a"? everytime we say that word we just prove to white people that we are what they called us all those years ago. "Nigger" was a term that meant something ignorent and loud and obnoxious. why are we going around callin each other that? it's time for a change, and you doin' a good thing by standin up for what you believe in.
And also, you don't see white people in any public place screamin, "WHASSUP MY CRACKA!!!" maybe that's why black people don't get the respect they expect from everyone!
Posted by: PREACH IT!!! at January 12, 2006 10:38 PM
Eight Ball and MJG been tight. I remember them from "Pimp in My Own Rhyme" back when I was in elementary school they been doin' it for years. They aint just suddenly show up and have a hit. They are hit makers just ask Diddy, who dropped that cash to have them reppin' Bad Boy. Three Six Mafia has been a juggernaut in southern rap and are the originators of the crunk sound. Nobody can seriously say that they aint cold. They've been given us them fight songs and just cool ass, weed songs since the days that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was runnin the game. I'm tired of people actin like Memphis is this new city for rap. Three Six Mafia and 8Ball and MJG didn't just make it when "Stay Fly" came out. Memphis has played a major role in the history of the rap game, and if you think about it, in today's Southern Takeover. Project Pat's out of jail and Frayser Boy is comin down, Chrome is sick, Gangsta Boo is still kickin, its time for Memphis to get the credit they deserve. This aint start wit no damn movie!!!

What's the difference between dog shit and niggers?
When dog shit gets old it turns White and quits stinking
What's the difference between a nigger and a snow tire?
A snow tire doesn't sing when you put chains on it.
How do you stop a nigger from drowning?
Take your foot off the back of his head.
Why do niggers stink?
So blind people can hate them too.

M-Town has been doing it big though and the connection between them and the early A-Town sound (before all this "snap" bullshit) was very parallel.
3-6 was always here in The A shutting down The Bounce (due to 14-20 people being shot at every performance of their's), 8ball and MJG made it possible for our proudest product Outkast, and anytime you travel to the M and kick it on Beale Street, you'd swear you were in Buckhead (prior to the bullshit 2am drink cutoff).
Anyway, read this article on Project Pat to catch more of my drift-

8ball and Mjg are life the stuff made of legends. They've experienced mediocre success and still kept grinding. Ny's got your backs.. sorry that you got wrapped up with p.diddy business.
Now I know that alot of folks in memphis we havent heard of yet will be set to blow. Every studio, in every town, has an emcee with the chance to make it happen.

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL.
I've been living in Memphis for years but I'm not from here so I can look at it objectively. It was Memphis' turn before Atlanta, before New Orleans and way before Houston. Everybody here knows DJ Paul and Juicy J have had the keys to this thang since '95. The same way Lil' Jon put the whole Atlanta on, they could have. So-called crunk music was "get buck" music in Memphis back when Atlanta was still only on booty shake music and bankhead bouncing. They honestly hold the rest of the city back on purpose. They are happy to be the only label owners/artists out here doing it and they use their pull at radio and retail to freeze out up and coming acts just so they can remain "the Kings of Memphis." They should realize that anybody new that they brought out would only make their legacy better but they don't see it. So long story short, everybody in Memphis knows that they hate all the other rappers out of the game and pray they don't make it. The majority of people here don't mess with them anymore. That's why they shoot all of their videos in Miami. Project Pat on the other hand, the city loves him and he can move however. 3-6 hasn't shown their face at an event in the city in years.

mr midwest i agree with the 3-6 holding other memphis rappers back but dont act like thease rappers are out to kill and ran them out the city i see them all the time out about in the city so i dont know what you are talking about on that one but anyway let me just say this paul and juicy are producers not rappers thats what people cant understand when they say they are booty they ran all they rappers off for fame but the problems is the only two rappers who left 3-6 and made credible music was gansta blac and playa fly if 3-6 had that much power why they cant stop there radio play 3-6 cant deny good music the radio stations gone play it if its popular no matter what they say 3-6 keep the smaller coming up rappers down which is bad but yo gotti dj squeeky crimnal mane skinny pimp when they bring new albums they get plenty of radio play i been in memphis all my life so i know the history and for you hoes thats saying 8ball and mjg aint shit how about since there 1st album with suave house in 92or 93 nothing but gold and platium plaques no flops ck yo sounscan if you think im lying here is the list of m town rappers (most are locked down so you probaly will never hear them ) look for them playa fly, gangsta blac, mc mack, the killa klan kaze, kingpin skinny pimp, project playas, frayser boy, chrome, lil gin ,gansta pat, project pat, carmike, koopsta knicca, yo gotti, gansta boo,211,tommy wright,la chat,dj spanish fly ,tom skeemask,dj zirk,dj squeeky, the ran,8ball mjg,al kapone, and many more .back in the dayz these rappers and djs were spilt up in teams by where they lived in the city and made mixtapes some beefing some just some bumping music crunk music is nothing but the get buck music we had back in the late 80s to 90s our got to big for memphis and it spilled over into other southern states wheras everyone started making that type of music we used to argue who had the most bass on they mixtape so the djs started doing the like screw music with bass lines behind them like dj magic mike dj squeeky bass tape dj zirk bass tape mc mack bass tape except these were gasta bass tapes not booty shaking shit which is lil jons sound now memphis was doing that in the eary 90s when lil jon was doing reggea music so yes with this collabo with ball and g 3-6 might be ready to let go since their limelight had dwindle a little bit before this single we will just have too see i seen there new vid for poppin collars its terrible the song is terrible so take it from me an mtown vet if these rappers from memphis dont get it together we will not be th next city to blow up

Wait, I need to correct. I think they did do a show here recently. I'll put it like this: 3-6 - PAUL AND JUICE- IF YOU CAN HERE ME, Y'ALL KNOW THE STREETS IS WAITING FOR Y'ALL TO PUT SOMETHING BACK TOGETHER WITH - Gangsta Boo, Playa Fly, Skinny Pimp, Gangsta Blac and more, if you want to put them in like Indo G, M- Child, Killa Klan Kaze, and more. We know y'all have money and y'all don't need them money-wise BUT DAMN, the product would be ridiculous. At least just do it for one compilation album, then y'all can leave em alone again. PLEASE DO THAT!!!

HERE IS MY THEORY ON THE ERA'S OF HIP HOP AND WHY HIP HOP MAY BE DYING.....
1) The East Coast: Hip Hop is born. A new form of music and arguably the best era of hip hop from 1979 to the mid nineties. Hip hop seemed limitless in it's potential befor platinum plaques, before videos, before street cred. Where a nigga had to put in work to be nice! Where emceeing was about show casing your skills on the mic instead of talking about how much drugs you sold and how much money you got and who you killed.
2) The West Coast Take over: Hip Hop grows into a wild teenager. It's now common for emcees to be nice, but now, gangster shit starts to illfitrate hip hop giving it a harder edge. Moving from partying and emceeing to hard reality raps and life in the ghetto. The east is still on the map but the west dominates. Still a good time for hip hop but commercialism drugs and over done thug shit begins to poison and take its toll on hip hop.
3) The Dirty South: The least creative and least exciting era so far in hip hop. Lyrical content is at an all time low and over done drugs, gangsterism and commercialism is at an all time high. Nobody gives a fuck about skills anymore or even listen to lyrics, and nobody is checking for what a rapper said anymore, it's about the beat and how many punchlines about coke and killing can you fit in between the hook. Hip hop has grown into a confused, misguided, materialistic, sTD carying young man. The next phase in hip hop maybe the end if some other region doesn't bring creativity and skills back to the fore front.
This is just a theory of mine. Something I was thinking about while blasting some Jimi Hendrix in my head phones. Peace.

These East Coast heads hatin on the south and the West because they both at one time (or in the south's case, Right NOW!) took over somethin they side created. Tell your MC's to step they marketing Game up. Don't get mad at the south because they got a bunch of artist gettin cake off Bangin ass beats and catchy hooks while your top artist (50 of course) is pretty much following the same formula. Get with the times man. Not too many people wanna hear that poetic lyrical knowledge shit. They want somethin thats gone have a big booty bitch grindin on them, or for a female, make that ass start bouncin. Stick to the stript and maybe yall can do some more numbers. Don't don't come in here sayin they fuckin the game up, cuz on the real, they just makin it alot better. Look at the west, we on the dirt bottom right now but you don't see us bitch and complainin about the south and the state of hip-hop. We out here gettin ours on our own tellin them major label execs to kiss our independent asses! Just you backpack ass East Coast niggaz. Get ya money south!! and keep bringin that CRUNK shit! This west coast nigga is lovin it!!

I think alot of the southern artist that get deals are wack. I'm from the south and my whole young life I've seen some of the best crash and burn all because record labels want to go for the "young & dumb" rappers who are only doing this for a check. I'm not going to sit up here and say I don't shake my ass to the booty bass music or that I don't rock to the snap music because I do, in the clubs of course. That shit is not allowed to bump in the ride. I can't stand them niggas because they have no flow what so ever but I know that they'll never be able to replace that good southern hip-hop shit. For those of you who think I'm probably some dumb ass girl with a laptop and a dream, let me create a list of the dopest dirty souf artists
Ghetto Boys - Started it off and are still doing it
UGK - Kept it going (The Pimp is home now so get ready)
8ball MJG - Kept it alive
Outkast - Blasted this shit to the moon(Don't let the 'Hey Ya' fool you Dre3000 can spit)
Ludacris - Talks about nothing but drugs, sex, and violence but does it very well
Lil Wayne - He's came along way....along long way
Lil Brother - Not only are they from my neighbor state North Cac but they're showing the world that the Carolinas have arrived
Young Buck - I'm more than positive that he'll improve with time
Pitbull - Just listen to dude(not the ass shaking songs) and you'll see what I mean
Goodie Mob - Fuck that Gip nigga on 'Grillz' the real Gip is a murderer on the mic along with the rest of Goodie M.O.B

TO STOPUSINGTHEWORDNIGGA AND PREACH IT:
I wish I could have your e-mail addresses and speak one to one about this because it's too much to be trying to put into a blog that is not even about this subject but I'll try to sum it up:
Your hearts are in the right places but you are missing the much bigger picture. How is it that everybody is intelligent enough to realize that some words can be used in different contexts and have more than one meaning except for when it comes to the word nigga. The word "ass" is in the Bible - The Holy Bible. But in the Bible it does not mean your booty. So when the preacher reads it in a scripture on Sunday the whole congregation is not going to yell out "OOOOOOOOH He Cussed!" Because he didn't. The word bitch has been in the dictionary since the first dictionary was written and it's original meaning was "female dog". There's nothing derogatory about that if you look at a female German Shepherd and say, "that's a bitch," but when you call a woman a bitch, there is something derogatory about that. We are intelligent and mature enough to understand the difference in those correct. Are you with me? OK. So why is it that some people want to cling to that and act like "nigga" has to be always be used in a racist context. When I say "that's my nigga," you know what I mean. If somebody asks me who I think the top 5 niggas spitting on the mic are today and I happen to name Eminem as one of them. I'm not going to stop myself and say, "oh wait, Eminem's not a nigga." Mostly nowadays it means MALE more than it means BLACK. You follow me. For instance you would say, "that nigga is tight" when referring to Eminem but you wouldn't say that when referring to Alicia Keys, you feel me? Really, if y'all want to take it all the way back and REALLY READ AND DO THE HISTORY, when white people first started calling us "nigger" it wasn't even negative. WE WERE ANIMALS to them. There was no such term as "white" because there was no such term as "black". They called us nigger simply to identify us. What else were they going to call us. Hell they called the original people on this continent INDIANS just cause they silly asses didn't have another word. They just happen to call us Nigger. It didn't become fighting words until after they freed us as slaves. Lastly, how can A WORD hold us back? Naw what they used to hold us back was first, whips and guns, then sharecropping, then unemployment/underemployment, miseducation, police brutality, the unjust justice system, etc. Because if ONE WORD can hold back an entire culture, we wasn't shit anyway. AND I KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE!
Posted by: The Lighter at January 17, 2006 2:50 PM
I DONT KNOW MIDWEST THEY MIGHT GET SOME SUPPORT BECAUSE MEMPHIS WHETHER YOU KNOW IT OR NOT 3-6 HAS FANS UP TO 50 YEARS OLD IN MEMPHIS SO THEY GOT A LOT OF FAN SUPPORT IN MEMPHIS I WONT GO MY SELF BUT IN=M, SURE THEY WOULD HAVE A GOO TURN OUT
Posted by: SHAMAR FROM M TOWN at January 17, 2006 4:47 PM
Man, Shamar, I wish they would do it. I might check it out. Hell I got here in 94 right before Mystic Stylez dropped so I caught the end of the underground era and I was a diehard fan right up until Gangsta Boo left. That was the last straw for me. They need to try to replace people instead of acting like they can hold it down on the rapping tip with just them. And why the hell is they still letting Crunchy Black rap?
Posted by: Midwest in Memphis at January 17, 2006 5:11 PM
CRUNCHY BLAC IS ALSO NOT A RAPPER HE IS A BACK UP DANCER THEY LET HIM ON A FEW SONGS AND YOU MIGHT NOT BELIEVE IT BUT ITS PEOPLE IN MEMPHIS WHO LOVE CRUNCHY BLAC BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE CANT RAP AND WILL ADMIT IT THATS WHY HE DONT SPIT NO MORE THAN 5 0R 6 BARS AT A TIME BUT IM WITH YOU THEY NEED TO JUST LET HIM DANCE AS FAR AS REPLACING THE PROBLEM IS PAUL AND JUICY WONT TAKE A BACK SEAT TO RAPPERS WHO CAN ACTUALLY RAP I THINK SINCE NOW PAT IS OUT HE NEEDS TO TALK TO THEM BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH THE ORIGNAL RAPPERS ARE GONE THEY STILL HAVE SOME CREDIBLE RAPPERS PROJECT PAT CHROME FRAYSER BOT LIL WHTYE EVEN THOUGH HIS VOICE IS IRRITAING THATS BETTER THAN JUST PAUL JUICY AND CRUCHY ALL THE TIME THE ALBUM THEY GOT NOW SUCKS TO ME COMPARED TO THEY OLD STUFF
Posted by: SHAMAR FROM M TOWN at January 17, 2006 5:49 PM
TO THE LIGHTER,
You spitting real talk there. You made some good points. I hear what you are saying about other word like Bitch, ass etc. having other context and why cant we just see the word nigga as a different context as nigger. It pretty simple- history. Those words you mention dont carry the hatred and awful history as the word nigga. When you think of the n word you think of a black man hanging from a tree. that was the word used to describe him as the blackman was hanging from that tree. That the word klansman from the deep south call us blacks. Yes , they say Nigga and not Nigger because of there accent. Like they say instead of butter , it butta. or they say instead of matter the say matta. Now if you were walking down the street in one of those hick towns down south with nothing but white people there and they say "hey, go home nigga" you would be upset. And he said N-I-G-G-A. So in that case the word wouldnt make much difference-it would be racist. There are those who have knowledge of this word and its foundation, not some 20th century watered down version. There was a time when the word Nigger was exclusively a white verb, adjective, and noun. It was used to humiliate at every opportunity. And it still is. Black people did not have that kind of hatred for each other and did not use it so freely around others. Today Black folks use the word when many whites that understand what it means will not. That is not progress,. Whites don't even have to call us niggas any more. We say it so much that others don't have to. The streets are no different; the Klan doesn't need to kills Blacks anymore because Black brothers and sisters are killing each other in mass numbers. The worse part is that they think that it's their idea. Taught that Black life is nothing, therefore taking Black life as if it were nothing, We seem to have much justification for using the word Nigga in the Black community like
- The word Nigga doesn't mean a Black person. It means an ignorant person.
-It's O.K. if Blacks say it to each other
- It's just a word
- It's a way of getting someone's attention
- It's the name of a river in Africa
There are many other justifications, reasons, or excuses. Pick your own title. Please understand that just because you have a reason doesn't mean that it is a good one. There is a context, or a foundation from which the word is used and those present understand that. When most non-blacks here this word they don't understand this. That in it's self is dangerous my friends.
Let us start by not using the word around non-blacks. Just think, if we only stop using the word my Mother and my young brothers and sisters would not have to stop at a red light and hear the word Nigga blaring from the speakers of some WHITE BOYS CAR! Non-blacks would not be able to cite our use of the word as a justification for them using it.Will all of our problems as Africans Americans Living in America be solved if we as a people stopped using this word? NO! but perhaps we could begin to regain some of the unity we once had and that would be a start.Even Mr. Richard Pryor, one of the most brilliant minds in comedy, and probably one of the most influential voices in making it cool to use the word Nigger as a single word or in a sentence, later declined to use it. This brilliant man who made millions partially inspite of and partially because of his ability to impart complete understanding by using the word Nigger, through wisdom, later abstained from using it. While in the Mother-Land (do not miss the fact that The Mother-Land gave birth to all land and all people) he discovered that there is no need to call people niggas when there are none.

to stopusingthewordnigga,no offense, but i'm a woman, so i ain't no brother. i ain't mad at ya tho cuz you didn't know. anyways, i still agree with you and i think that you're right. when somebody said that word back in the day, it was meant to offend you and to cut you deep. all you can think of when you hear that word is how hard your ancestors worked to get us out of that category. what would dr. martin luther king jr. say if he was still alive and saw us screaming that word across the street or in the mall? that's all i'm trying to say.
to The Lighter:
if that word has no meaning anymore like it used to why are we ready to kill a white person when we hear them say that word? shouldn't we just ignore it if it doesn't mean the same thing?
And y'all can e-mail me at kristen_160@yahoo.com, if y'all wanna discuss this more than on this blog. Please do email me cuz i wanna hear both of y'all's opinions so i can hear ya out.

PREACH IT,
What good? Im glad to see you understand what Im saying. Great analogy about what if MLK was still alive and what would he think if he saw us calling each other that word. He would most likely feel he died in vain. Its such a disrespect and a slap in our ancestors face for us to continue to spew that word thinking its cool. Thinking spelling changes years and years of history. Its sad, and the white man is steady laughing at our stupidity.
Posted by: stopusingthewordnigga at January 17, 2006 11:58 PM
Stopusingthewordnigga,
I feel you too. I really do. That's why it's good to have real talk with people who think. One of the main things you said is we should first stop at least using it in front of non-white people and that's kind of where the dilemma of technology and entertainment come in. The average Black person doesn't use it around non-white people in regular conversation, but now we're selling millions of albums and the word happens to be on most of them so it's exposed to a lot more people. But we as a people always said it, maybe not all of us. George Jefferson use to slip a good "Nigga please!" in right on Prime Time network television. That doesn't alone justify it but it wasn't the same as it being said on hundreds of CDs a year that will be listened to over millions of times. We didn't control the explosion of hip-hop. It's had a lot more negative effects outside of the use of this word. I'd feel differently as well if our same Black people who were getting lynched and brutalized didn't also use the word themselves. But they did. You have to remember that slaves on plantations called each other nigga. I don't want to oversimplify it but largely, if it was good enough for them it's good enough for me. They were actually the ones living through the greatest tragedy in history and even though that word was used to describe them, they still used it themselves in the same context we do today. That's documented.
Overall, I just feel that there are so many other problems we have as a people that that's way down on my list. I can see why a lot of our people don't want the word used, but I feel like if we had a movement to get a real "Black Community" again (because we don't have one anymore) this discussion would be unnecessary. If we have that, then immediately it's the Community that makes that decision and says that the word is unacceptable, and immediately it goes away. Just like the Hip-Hop Community decided M.C. Hammer, Ja Rule, High-top fades, Cross Colour jeans or whatever is unacceptable, and those things just go away automatically because the people say so.
If we have a community Bill Cosby would have been saying "we" have a problem instead of "those people" have a problem and our elders could tell us, "hey let's stop using that word," and we would do it out of respect. I think the awkwardness of it comes from America trying to pretend like we're all one culture when that's ridiculous. If we had defined our culture when the smoke cleared from the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, we probably would have outlawed the word ourselves, but we didn't get to define our culture, they defined it for us.
If you could have a choice would you rather all Black people stop using the word nigga, or stop talking about selling crack cocaine and killing people like it's cool? That's what I mean, I feel you, I just feel like that's way down there on the list of problems and I don't feel that that word contributes to the problems of violence, drugs, incarceration, etc.
PREACH IT: I will definitely e-mail you but to go back to what I said: we are ready to kill a white person when they say it because they are still using it the old context of, I'm white, this is my country, you're a nigger you're scum. I'll tell you a funny story when I e-mail about some white people I met in a certain city that used it in the proper context like we do and I had to accept it.
Posted by: The Lighter at January 18, 2006 10:08 AM
One more thing! About what would MLK say? Don't forget. Black people WERE calling each other nigga when he was alive. So if he was alive, he would say whatever he was saying to the ones who used it then.

I stay in Memphis but I'm from your area - right outside the Chi. I been here forever though so I can put you on whatever you need to know and how to get around in the "M". Well, first off the main clubs are the Plush Club, Martini Room and The Premier depending on what crowd you looking for. If you want to shoot an e-mail or whatever I can get into detail though.

THE LIGHTER,
Whats going on? yeah I agree with you from the standpoint of we do have many, many, many other major issues in the black community other then the use of the n word. That is a true statement, but what Im saying just from seeing the comments on the blog and seeing that word being used it says we as a people are not aware of the bigger picture. We are not aware of our history, or aware of what the government is doing. I feel if we new and understood our history as a people we would be able to fight a lot of the things that you mention such as violence, drugs etc. By us constantly spewing that god awful word towards each other , to the outside meaning non blacks it doesnt look like we have much unity. And in order for us to over come a lot of the issues that are happening in our communities it has to start with our minds. And knowing our history, even a little bit. We should, out of respect for our history, NEVER call another blackman or women a nigga or nigger. We are making excuses as to why it okay for us to use a word that is till this day offensive to not just us personally, but our history as a people. And why am I mention the use of the n word when there are bigger problems in our communities, because by us realizing the ignorance of calling each other nigga, it will open up our minds into realizing other thing which will lead to the actions for change in our communities. It has to start in our minds. And the words we use express what is in our minds. First we start changing our language and then we start changing our ways. We have to stand up as a people and realize things for what they are, not what we want them to be. We want the n word's effectiveness to minimize, but it cant because there is to long of a history. We dont want it to bother us so we make our own version in saying nigga instead of the white person way nigger, but with us saying nigga , it doesnt make any less offensive when he hear it out of a say suburban white person mouth. If your in college and you hear your white proffesor say "come hear nigga" the average black person would be offended. Even if that same black person who uses the word calls his on friends nigga, just seeing and hearing it out of a white persons mouth is still offensive. So us using it doesnt make any less offensive when coming out side our race and more so it makes us look like hypocrites. And you cant take a hypocrite seriously. So we ask for justice and all of these other things and if we cant be taken seriously , then how do you think we are going to get these things we ask for. See black people cant see outside of themselves and for us to be able to make changes we have to outside of ourselves.
Also you said slaves used that word and if it was good enough for them then its good enough for you. We are not slaves though so it shouldnt be could enough for you. If we are accepting the same things slaves did hundreds of years ago , then how is that progress?

anyway i'm from jersey but i'm definately into the memphis sound. i've been a 3-6 fan for awhile waaaaaaaay before those ridin spinnerz/stay fly mainstream songs; seriously if u want some good 3-6 music check out the stuff pre 2001. these guys definately have talent lyrically it's just lately they haven't used it at all. lord infamous is one of the sickest rappers in the south (next to bun b and mystikal), t-rock (when he was with them) was an amazing lyricist, paul usually came up with something good, project pat and juicy j came out once in awhile with some good lines. as far as crunchy blac goes he's horrible - at least he says he can't rap and i never understood all the hype about gangsta boo. but anyway all that three 6 stuff like the end, mystic styles, underground vol 3, when the smoke clears, crazyndalazdayz, hcp compilation is all good stuff so check it out!

Man please. I am from DC, but Memphis been deep. I'm talkin Tela, 3-6 (the ORIGINAL), Skinny Pimp (looking 4 da chewin), Pretty Tony, AL KAPONE, Tom Skeemask, Project Playaz, DJ Squeeky, SMK, PLAYA FLY (the cunning king of funkytown!!!!!), Gangsta Blac (Fly & Blac..Mafia All Day Muthafukka), Homicide, Gangsta Pat, 8ball & MJG. The list could go on and on and on and on. Lyrically, Fly and his Minnie Mae Mafia associates, and 8Ball & MJG gottem by far, but Memphis originated the gangsta walk and that get crunk music everyone attributes to Lil Jon. memphis is definately overdue. Some of their tightest shyt is pre-1998. Da Game Owe Me and Movin On are two of the tightest CD's to come outta Southparkway!!! Then u got 3-6 Volume 3 and body parts and 8ball&mjg's memphis underground. That was when the memphis scene was atleast somewhat unified. Now it's all shot to shit, but FLy need to get back on the scene..I'm that boy's biggest fan out here.
