Motown's Jennifer Edison Descends Upon Atlanta Combining R&B and Crunk
There is a new diva on the horizon as Detroit's own Jennifer Edison recently touched down in Atlanta for a media meet-and-greet for members of the press and select radio and industry personnel. Make no mistake about it, what once was a buzz is now a loud chatter as people are anxiously awaiting the release of her second album "A Thousand Wings".
Her first CD was a mildly successful independent release, but her second CD has her being hailed as the next big artist to come out of the Motown area. Jennifer's great-aunt was a member of the legendary Supreme's, and those vocal talents are apparent in her music.

SOHH.COM:
Where did you come up with the title for the album, "A Thousand Wings" and what does it mean?
Jennifer Edison:
"A Thousand Wings" is the title track of the album and it just deals with finally finding that person or love that makes you feel like you're flying with a thousand wings, it's very symbolic. I want all of my songs to have a point. Even if the point is to just have fun, I like to write songs that have a purpose and an overall message. I like to break down a situation and talk about things that we all probably know but never really say out loud, or maybe in a way we never thought about.
SOHH.COM:
What producers and artists did you get a chance to work with on this CD?
Jennifer Edison:
Alot of the production was done by my brother Charles Edison and I also worked with a guy named Derrick Hines out of Houston, TX. who also did three tracks on the album. I wrote all of the songs on the this album just as I did on the first CD. I'm a writer first, I love to write.
SOHH.COM:
Your first single off of the album, "I'm Out" is doing real well in some of the smaller markets like Macon and Columbus, and is being dubbed as the next "R&B Crunk" hit, why do you think people are associating that song with so-called "crunk" music?
Jennifer Edison:
Probably because the beat for "I'm Out" was actually intended to be a hip hop song but when I heard it I knew that it could be an R&B hit. The single is already out and being promoted and the album is coming soon. I'm real excited about that single. That's why we're promoting it heavily in Atlanta right now.
SOHH.COM:
Who were some of your musical influences while growing up in Detroit?
Jennifer Edison:
Some of my favorite artist right now are Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Brandy, Lauren Hill. I also have alot of gospel influences like The Winans, Yolanda Adams, and Fred Hammonds. My great aunt was in The Supremes so the musical influences have always been there. I grew up in the church and it definitely reflects in my music.
