This will be a great time to show exactly how much hip-hop and music in general is about real life. Alot of times, after an artist's first album, we stop hearing about their struggle and start hearing about their money. As a person who works in the music industry and also a direct realtive to at least 15 people in New Orleans, I am happy to know that people are taking care of people. This is truly the basis of humanity- being able to help someone else.

I wonder if any of them (rappers from these regions) or there family members were directly affected or suffered any loss of life or property.
Louisiana was especially hard hit...Webbie and Boosie from Baton Rouge - hope to see them give back. Mother Nature can be so mean...I didn't know New Orleans was situated like a bowl sub-sea level. Guess developers didn't account for a disaster of this magnitude. I'm in NY, looking at the footage makes my skin raise - muddy water all the way up to the roof of a house.
Posted by: Gina at September 1, 2005 12:23 PM
I am glad to see hip-hop stepping up to make a contribution to this horrible disaster. It doesn't make any sense for all of these people who make a lot of money(from the N.O.) not to do something to help out. I would also hope that all of the rappers claiming the N.O. would step up and make a difference. Please rep your hood and city for real this time. I am also glad to see black people making a difference in helping out other blacks. First and foremost I hope everyone can rebound from this situation and make it out of there with their health and sanity intact.

It is fantastic that the Hip Hop community is stepping in the aid the victims of this natural disaster. It is,however,a shame that the President isn't jumping in fast enough. Maybe someone should request a press conference and release a statement saying that the Taliban and Al Quada conjured up "spells" to destroy the very fabric of America, and then we'd get results? Any takers?
Posted by: Shorty DooWop at September 1, 2005 02:55 PM
You know why Bush doesn't give a fuck about getting down there in a hurry to assess damages? Because the majority of the victims in New Orleans are black. That bastard won't get there until tomorrow damn near 6 days after all of this shit started. He is a fucking idiot. I would also like to give a big "you're a dumb fuck" award to the mayor of New Orleans. How do you pull people off of search and rescue missions to worry about people looting? Hello...80% of your fucking town is underwater and you really think that damaged retail merchandise is more important than saving lives? Now I'm not saying that looting is right, but people are rying to survive. Now I'm not saying looting guns and then using those guns to fire on helicopters trying to save you is the smartest thing to do, but you can't expect people to be neccessarily in their right minds after experiencing what they have just gone and are going through. In closing, Bush and New Orleans Mayor are dumb asses.

Hi David Banner,Ludacris,Lil Boosie,Webbie,Ying Yang Twins and all of the following southern rappers willing to give back to the south because of Hurricane Katrina. Birdman he was really upset about the hurricane disasters that went on down there in Louisiana. He was saying that he never thought that it would ever hit New Orleans that hard. Every time Bird man talked he sounded sad and upset. I know that it really was eaten him up in the inside. It was alot of people that didn't leave there homes. People were on top of there roof waiting for the people to come and ruscue them. I also saw alot of people stealing out of the peoples houses in New Orleans that was not even there. This is the worst hurricane we have probably ever experience in our life time. I feel all of you all pain because I am currently leaving down in Mississippi now. So when you all get this please send me some feedback about anything that is on your minds. David Banner I feel it for you too. You are from Mississippi and when you came on 106 and Park talking about the hurricane and want it had did to the south it really touch me. I am so grateful that I am alive and I will pray for all of the douth so we can get back right together.
Posted by: Candace at September 1, 2005 04:27 PM
I'm like a few people that said Bush don't give a fuck about them people. The reason he can careless is because the majority of people are black and its not him or his family and most of them are low income so that made it even better for him. He's on tv talking all this shit about he cares but if he really gave a damn he would of been there before all them people died.He will never convince me that he gives a damn.I have friends in Mississippi and it really is hurting me that I can't find out anything about them.I pray a worry everyday about everybody that has experience with this tragedy and I hope and pray nobody else dies.I have cried so much this week for everybody I don't think I have anymore tears.I will continue to pray for everyone in N.O. and in Mississippi.

I am just proud to see that people from the music industry don't forget their roots. I know that here in Louisiana we produced a lot of rappers, and we hope that they remember that when they were up an comin we supported them too.
so.. much love and thanks to all ya'll!

This goes out to Candace and Shorty Doo Wop. Candace I am praying for you and the rest of the people out there in New Orleans, Mississippi and some of the other places hit by that terrible storm. Every time I turn on my television I just cant help but cry. It hurts my heart to see my folks in that terrible condition, no water, food, or medication. I truly believe that soon as the rappers like Baby, Little Wayne, Chooppa, David Banner, Master P, and Ludacris get their families situated and safe that they will play a major part of helping out. I am from California and I just wish that I had the finances to go down there and help out. It really pisses me off that those Sons of Bitches are more worried about somebody looting than tryna save lives. And President Bush sittin' somewhere looking like a knot on a dogz dick he dont give a shit because because his drunken azz daughters aren't out there in dire straits. I feel that they are not moving fast enough because the people are Black. Please stay strong and pray. GOD did not bring you this far to leave you please believe that and you will surely be blessed. I will be checking this daily to at least give words of comfort.

How is it that the Bush Administration can donate all this money & help to aid the Tsunami victims on the other side of the world but it's taking almost a week to help our own Americans right here in the United States thats obviously in despair and in need of help? People are dying and that city of New Orleans is like a war zone that is still waiting on Military Troops to come to the rescue! The excuse for why people haven't been rescued at the Convention Center is that young men are armed & dangerous with weapons. Hello....its way worse over in Iraq! If the media can gain access to film this shit and show the whole world whats going on how come people that are trained to do this can't? People are blaiming the residents because they didn't evacuate but how can they when they are poor and live in poverty with no means of transportation and nowhere to go? Everyone that know and believe in prayer please pray for those "refugees" for which they are now considered as!
Posted by: young_gifted_n_black at September 1, 2005 11:04 PM
the reason they donate so much moneyt to the tsunami, is because the bush administration needed to bring up the american image in the world, after its invasion in iraq, its all politics they really give a fuck about them like they don't give a fuck about us living in poverty. they elist for the army in our neighborhoods not in the white neighbors. God bless all those people stuck in new orleans, this shows once agan the american government don't give a fuck about us.

This is not an issue that should only be directed to rappers, nba stars, or nfl stars. This is an issue for people in general. We are in a time of war. Not with the taliban ,but with our own leadership. The president clearly does not give a fuck about us. People are offering us help and our appointed leader turned them down. Black people we are quick to rep our hood, our cities, or our cliques, why are we not repping humanity. (P.S. If this was Beverly Hills and it was a bunch of white folk they would bring back the draft. Us niggas would be first in line.)

We must be a blessing to others as we have been blessed. I don't know about you, but I would rather be giving than having to receive.
Finally, none of us will likely ever forget this terrible tragedy. I know that our bothers and sister who are personally touched by it never will. But when they do think of what happened during the week of August 29, 2005, I know you want them to remember that they had a family tha embraced them and their families in their time of need, a family who prayed for and encouraged them, a family who helped them by giving what they could to lighten their burdens. I know that they will be tremendously thankful and appreciative and you will be abundantly blessed for your giving.
Everybody Please Pray

Okay, okay I know everyone has an opinion; but it is crazy that when our focus should be on the remnants of Hurricane Katrina, cracka rappa can only focus on disrespecting people on this site. Dude get a life. Your comments suggest you're a racist son of a bitch, everytime you reply to someone who opposes your view, you refer to them as racist, illiterate and poor. Why do you make these assumptions but then try to steal their culture by trying to emulate their dilect. I have a feeling you are the racist, illiterate, poor bastard you talk about. You couldn't even write a post without trying to sound "cool" -- instead you sounnd like an ignorant copycat. Dude, is it because you can't write in American English or are you "frontin'." Get a life cracka rappa, and if your name suggests you flow, put down the mike and stop trying to steal from a culture you obviously despise. If you were really a Bush fan you would see that after the tsunami and the hurricanes in Florida, the federal gov't react immediately -- they didn't need 5-6 days to deliberate on whether the people would need aid. Shit, the day after Sept. 11, this dude wanted to go to war with Saddam. So get your facts right and stop hating. You Elvis-like, Bush dickriding son of a trailer park bitch (hey I couldn't help myself -- hate may be the only language that cracker understands.)

Just wanted to say I'm in South Florida and we all sympathizing with what these people are going through. It's just sad that everybody's turning this into a black/white thing when there is so much more going on. Let's look at the big picture now and do what we can as American's and worry about this petty shit later. We all know racism still exists from blacks and whites. I'm not here to defend anyone but to say keep these people in your prayers and take action instead of sitting here arguing with one another. For ya'll going back and forth with cracka rappa - you're just stooping to his level.

i can't believe how stupid people can get ! first off i don't see any body bitching about the mayor and his stupid decisions and then theres the gov. of Louisiana who just gets on tv and cries to larry king instead of taking charge and getting things done, she just sat on her hands and did nothing! they asked her about the millions of dollars that where appropraited for the upkeep of the levy and she said she didn't know , and, oh yeah what about the mayor who released 100 prisoners into population , and they somehow found their way down to the superdome where 3-4 murders and what is it about 6 rapes took place! and that all happend in one night! and oh yeah when 911 happened it was the mayor of new york who took charge so fast and got the ball rolling, and how can you compare an act of terrorism with a force of nature, how's come the governer did not have a plan or the mayor? where was his great plan for what to do in case of a hurricane that place was a ticking time bomb, an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure! your mayor and your governer have more of a direct effect on your community than your president, if the mayor and the governer would have planned ahead, they would not have the mess they have now, they where told at least 3-4 days in advance about the hurricane and just sat on their thumbs, and all they could do is cry about it after it happened, and want somebody to clean up their mess, it's always easy to blame someone else , and oh yeah i have something else to say i saw people making jokes about filling up the levy with dead bodies! if that was your family over there you wouldn't be making such stupid sick jokes! how can people turn this tragedy into a joke i bet the citizens of new orleans would not be laughing at all ! society has really hit a new low ! i can't cope with it so i'll make a joke about it ! how insane and insensitive! this isn't some stupid reality show! this is real life! and everybody is trying to politicize it! thats just SICK! So instead of bitching and blaming , why not see what we can do about helping, and that goes for me too! so if you want belittle me thats ok! it just tells me how ignorant and small minded people can be!

You know, my hat goes out to everyone that's steppin up to the plate, in this
time of crisis in N.O. & Mississippi.
God don't sleep. He sits high and looks low. He's humbled numorous arrogant leaders before, and this is no
different. This will require humbling of some people in authority.
I heard a woman tell a story of how she wanted to evacuate but just could not afford it. She went on to say how the last evacuation cost here $1200.
I just can imagine if I am living on a fixed income, and I was faced with this delimma, I'd probably mad the same desision. That is so sad. I guest this is what they mean when they say money is the root of all evil.
God bless these people, and open the eyes of those who choose to not see the truth in this matter.

Dictator don't even waste your time responding to that white prejudice white, trailer park trash MF,(crack-a raper)LOL. That mF is a joke. In a time such as this, comunication with a insensitive ass hole such as him or even her won't solve the real issue at hand. We can't be distracted.
Bush as we know can care less about black people. But, we also know this problem goes far beyond race, when it comes down to people in general.
I live in Texas. I am a black female.
I'll be the first to say that I have first hand seen White people open there Churches up to our black avacuee brothers and sisters. And I say this to say, we must keep focus. It's not a white and black issue. It's a people issue. I've seen white people contribute just as much as we have. There is good people and there is evil people. This is a serious thing.
As a country we should be closer. But as we know as the head go the body will follow. Our head is at suspect right now. I can't help but see a serious double standard. If we are going to change as a country, it's will have to start at the top. This means all people in authority. They are going to have to see people not race.
Damn it's a shame, people still bullshits themselves in thinking we are to blind to see the real truth in this matter. Another example of racism from the top.
Posted by: real issues at September 3, 2005 10:57 PM
Hi guys,
Mr. West's comments were true and should have been said. Most whites in America do not want to address the race issue and postpone it for later debate. This issue is totally avoided because it does not affect the majority or the ones in power. This is why we need to take care of our own people. Like most blacks I don't feel very American at all - even before Katrina (as they called us refugees). The legal definition for refugees is someone or a group of people disbanded from their origin or birthplace due to religion, race or class. This sounds a lot like "slave" to me. Also, the rappers (some not all) are not helping at all with their in and out of jail bad boy attitudes. I have more respect for doctors, lawyers, teachers, business men/women and scientists than any black entertainer or athlete. We as black people don't need to make $10M to $20M per year and not have knowledge, skills and education. Guess what, you get guys buying $100K chains and $600K cars. This is ignorant as hell on our part because there are thousands of blacks barely making it in America. I don't blame whites for laughing at us. These entertainers and athletes are making the situation worse. These guys should turn their excess money (above basic personal and family needs) over to engineers, architects, scientists and business men/women to develop structures and safe havens for ourselves. The money that these entertainers receive is just CASH after owner profits. This cash is spent on garbage and disappears after one or two generations at best. The T.O.s or 50cents can not help US. They have skills that can not be taught or transferred into assets that can be constructive for blacks. Just think, JZ and 50cent live in awesome neighborhoods, but they live next door to whites that did it the right way. I'm willing to bet that their neighbors are doctors, business men/women and lawyers - helping their people - which is what they should be doing. I think we need to pursue these professional occupations without deviation - through education. This is they only way that we can rise above the helpless situation in New Orleans. We can not do what other races do - we are severely behind in education and marketable skills. We look bad and have no one to blame, but ourselves when we as blacks allow 8,000 blacks in just one city to live below poverty when their are hundreds of these black entertainers flaunting their diamonds. White people can do this flaunting because their unemployment rate is not above 10% like ours; their median household income is above average; on average they know how to manage the money they make and are knowledgeable about all the latest financial resources. Whites are doing well as a people. Blacks are not getting educated and the knowledge needed to survive in this country. I'll leave with this question. What can a high school drop-out or men/women that have never used their degrees or finished college (cut short by pro sports or a singing career) that make $10M a year do besides give it back to the real estate agents, car dealers, clothing stores and jewelry shops that other races own boosting national retail sales that white CEOs and stockholders ultimately profit from? This cycle must stop!

no matter what the issue maybe inlife there are many types of people. you have people who care and people who dont, you have people who will work and people who wont, people who are able and people who arent, people who are willing to make change and people who arent. so criticism toward the people who make money (who are black) or white isnt cool. no matter what your doing in life to be one of the best you must bust your ass, so if being an entertainer is one of them so be it, that doesnt mean they didnt work has hard as the lawyer to overcome life situations to become success at something. to say white can flaunt money and jewls and blacks cant that is ignorant as hell if you look at our population the blacks are the majority and the whites are actually the minority so when you do an overal percentage on proverty it is a given that blacks will be over ten percent. so stop looking from the outside in tryin to sound smart when you dont know at all what people are doing what, until you see them on the internet or news saying that they are contributing something.
Posted by: jrock at September 4, 2005 09:51 AM
If you want these entertainers representing you through the media each and everyday that’s great, but I don't think they are capable. You're right jrock they did work hard, but they act and say things that are not material at all in society. I can't listen to this music and gain any real substance or direction. I know there is a hood and people sell drugs just to make it, but why not direct people to do something positive? Why not use the CDs to program our thoughts for positive reinforcement? How many black people living below poverty can afford to see concerts, go to NFL/NBA games and buy CDs? We are really entertaining the affluent which are primarily white. If you look at the stats blacks are not the majority of the American population. (go to the us census website) As of 2000 the % of blacks in the American population is 12.4 (this includes africans & islanders). When I said that blacks can't brag and whites can I meant that our priorities should be different. They have to be. We are going to have to do radical things that others don't in order to accomplish something in the US because sitting around depending on others to supply is not working. I wouldn't challenge our intelligence. We are very knowledgeable and resourceful, but it is very unorganized. I still think education is the most valuable asset we can have - more so than any record deal or contract to play a sport. By the way, these rap guys are telling you in their raps what they are doing - thuggin, screwing, hanging out and flashing their gold. I guess their contributions to society are big secrets to protect their hardcore image. What could they possibly be doing besides living like a rock star. You're right I am biased against these rap guys; we need to get these guys out of the spotlight and put media coverage on blacks that are really striving for excellence. The media is a big part of what I see, but I do know that we are not dominating the boardroom like we are dominating the ballroom unless all this is kept as a big secret that I'm not included. We NEED to see this movement more than "The Candy Shop" video.

The situation in the n.o. Is fucked up but I have a question.. If people have been living in unsanitary conditions for the past 6 days meaning no baths, no place 2 use the bathroom, no food or water, and then dead people floating around what about the diseases that come from this type of shit?? I'm willing 2 bet no one has been vaccinated, just put on a bus and shipped out like fuckin slaves.. And what's worst is a lot of these people may be sick as hell from that shit but instead of handling that they send them 2 other cities in the urban communities and let them rome for jobs and schooling.. Its truly fucked up... Their trying 2 kill us blacks off and I'm willing 2 bet that their will be some type of plague following this shit....

Digger I'm trying to feel yo pain bro.
I'm trying to see yo angle. But, I can't feel you man. Deal with that shit when it arise. Getting them people out of there was important.
Bro you faced with unsanitary shit everyday. People around you daily come in contact with shit that's already out there. Man, just living in this poluted society's a danger to our health.
Fuck that that my peeps, get them out first.

All the money in the world won't do anything if it's not distributed properly and is the survivors are not seeing any relief. Relief workers were not going into New Orleans because of the so called violence. People are still waiting on their rooftops and in there houses. Who knows how many people have died due to abandonment. America will have to answer. We shell out all kinds of relief money to other countries, but our own people suffer and die when a hurricane that is forseen, not a tsunami, but a fucking hurricane, strikes. We don't even know how to handle catastrophes. We are pathetic, Bush is criminal and racist, and Fema and the Red Cross are a joke.

I feel really sorry for the people in the Hurricane. I wish i could do something

I'm an 18 year old white boy from wisconsin and you know what? i agree, Bush don't give a fuck about minorities. So if he or nobody else will do anything about its good that the rappers are showing how they aren't bad people by helping their own out i mean shit we all have to realize that it ain't about color though its about hip-hop unifying people it has the power to bring together people of all different backgrounds and hopefully through the hurricane relief effort, it will show just how vital the hip-hop community is to American life. I also would like to know if anybody knows what happened to MAC and C-Murder since they were locked up, are they still alive??

All I can say is much RESPECT to teh brotha's & Sista's (young & old) that have support our peeps in the hell that has now befallen New Orleans. Any help is appreciated and GOD will remember. We alwayz knew the truth about the American White House - now teh whole world will see. What burns me up, is that "rice" has teh nerve to show her face!

After reading several of these comments - I'm appalled at the lack of respect to the actual people in need and those predominantly white volunteers that are helping out with recovery aid. And before I go any further - this is not a situation to start talking about racism! Hasn't our country been throwing this excuse around long enough! It comes down to just helping out our "fellow man". I'm in a city that has been taken in 1,000s of "displaced "American" citizens; and I myself took a car full of food, blankets , clothes and toys to a drop off location where 100s of cars were lined up to do the same thing. As I drove in and out of these drop off areas - the volunteers that directed us did not turn away anyone because of their race! So....we as HUMANS should only look at this situation as "these Americans need help - plain and simple.
If this same situation happened in an area that was predominantly white, with the same difficulties (flooding/poor accessibility) - we'd have the same results - a hardship on our hands! Let's stop trying to point the finger and start pulling out the wallets!!!
Don't let this hardship divide us as a nation - for any life lost (whether Black or White) is a tragedy - but let us a country rise above this and REUNITE as one.
God bless everyone on this site, may you find peace within yourself to forgive any wrong doing you've seen and strength to participate in a positive manner. Donate your time and/or money.

Ramintx,
I'm not donating anything to the distaster because I pay taxes so the government can handle this. Its the governmentls problem. Put all forces in Iraq, close bases, spend billions per day to rebuild Iraq and send troops abroad there will be problems with deficit spending. We should not be bailing the gov't out due to their mistakes. I feel for the evacuees because they have to rely on this bastardized gov't budget imbalance. Go ahead and throw your money away on this cause.
Also, racism is a huge issue in the U.S. If you think blacks in America are making excuses, many many foreigners agree with us. Slavery actually occured and it did not help us black folk at all. Period. How can I feel American - they are calling us refugees. I'm going to do my thing and thats it.

whats up everybody? I just wanna say i aggree with everyone about bush. He ain't tryin to do shit for the N.O. if this was florida, shit the whole state would have been evacuated before 10,000 people would have down in N.O. that shows racism right there. For Lil Wayne and Baby its time to show how much you really love ya city. I'm cash moneys biggest fan and yall have the hotest shit out people are gonna buy your tickets u need to come to H-town as in huntington West V. u might thinks its small but we're on the map as in gettin money and murders and not to mention money! Anywayz other states also need to come together and volunteer to welcome some of the victims have a place to stay for the time being. West V has invited 500 people to stay at camp Dawson it may not seem like a lot of people but its a start and i'm sure they greatly appreciate it. As for crakka rapper u would be white to say something like that go to the n.o. and your ass will be murked quick. cause thats the murda cappy niggaz get murda happy!! holla

I am the contractor that build many of the Cash Money partners homes in the USA and give my deepest regards to the families and freinds in this great city. Our company has given $500,000 to the Red Cross, and seeing Lil' Wayne concern at the Hotel in Detroit on Saturday, I will continue to pray for them and many others.

Dont be hating any race of people no matter if there are weaknesses in every kind of people. there are great and beautiful things about every kind of people too, if you take the time to see what is right in front of your eyes. If you can't help others to become wiser or better then shut you fricken mouth and figure out how to make yourself a more loving and tolerant being. God help the people in their time of need after this sad event that has happened to new orleans and the rest of the south affected by the devestation of Katrina...

Master P is as asshole. He needs to shut up. I heard this dude dissing Kanye West about he said that george bush does not care about black people because of record sales. What it is, is Master P just wanted the spotlight because it's his home town.

I have read through most of these posts and I have to say that there are as many bad white people as there are black. but I will say that the way you all talk on here is quite appauling and you definately show off your mentality with the way you talk and the vulgar language. Points can be made with integrity and respect and you only lower the value of other peoples opinions of you with the way you talk. This is a time of monumental national disaster. Read REVALATIONS is all I can say. We need to join together and ask our good LORD to help these people and to give our leaders of the wonderful country guideance and understand that they are human and have to make some very difficult desisions. I must say that I have to agree with the gentleman that said yall have computers so you cant be to darn poor. And also there are alot of yall out there that can work and just suck the hell out of the goverment becuase you feel "they owe it to you BECAUSE you are black" well boo hoo.
