The 70,000 figure is a lie, seriously. They may be selling but that figure is gouged. With internet, mixtapes and non-traditional sales that do not take place in brick and mortar stores...it's much easier for artists to make up sales figures as there is no verifyable stats/tracking aside from what the artist claims.
It would be funny as hell if the IRS would start to audit musicians based on their quotes. If they would go up to artists that say they sell 100,000 without distro (ala Flip and Slim Thug etc.) and inquire why they are filing tax forms that state they only make $15,000 in the calendar year.
If many of these artist were in fact selling what they claim, why are they still so eager to sign major label deals that will pay <$1 per unit. Let's be real for a minute.
While we may never know the actual amount of sales, one thing that can be verified is web traffic - if most of their sales come from the web...they do not have a high enough amount of traffic to substantiate the sales - the traffic-to-purchase ratio is impossible. Check alexa.com or others and plug in the web address.

Regina they had over 3 million hits? Go figure
Posted by: Skam at September 12, 2005 02:23 PM

Posted by: ... at September 12, 2005 02:24 PM

SouthWest Zone4 pimp!!!
Posted by: Silvaback22 at September 12, 2005 02:54 PM
SOME LIE AND SOME TELL THE TRUTH! I DON'T GIVE A FUC WHAT NONE OF YALL THINK NIGGAS WAY BUYN LIL FLIP SHIT BEFORE HE WENT MAJOR ALOT OF NIGGAS BOUGHT HIS FIRST CD AND SWISHA HOUSE MIKE JONES GARBAGE BUT I WAS BUYN SWISHA HOUSE SHIT OUT THE STORES IN 2000WHEN THEY HAD 50/50 TWIN,SLIM THUG,ARCHIE LEE AND PAUL WALL AND CHAMILLIONAIRE SO ALOT OF THESE RAPPERS REALLY SELLN! LIKE ALOT OF YALL NEVA HEARD OF C-BO FROM SACRAMENTO,CA BUT I BEEN BUYING HIS SHIT SINCE LIKE 98! HE SOLD OVER A MILL INDEPENDENT WITH LIKE 10 CD'S!
Posted by: DAREALEST100 at September 12, 2005 03:25 PM
I have heard of C-Bo, and those are cases there are distro channels, you can actually get that CD in a store. I'm not knocking the hustle!!!
For the other comment, you're right - cats talk about how many CDs they burned or had pressed...not how much they sold. I'm waiting for the day one of they baby mommas drag them in to court for child support and when they try to pull that I'm a broke indie - they lawyer sites clippings from publications quoting they sold 100,000. For a DIY indie, that's a million bucks, lol. Soon the IRS will Dupri their asses bases on loose lips and they'll have to fess up.
With regard to the comment about them having 3 million hits, I do e-marketing - the ratio hits to sales are impossible. They would be having to get those types of hits monthly and even then, it's a stretch. Let me explain something about hits, 1 visitor can rack up 30 hits in a single visit depending on the website layout (anyone with a website knows this) - so when people say hey "I had a million hits" - it translates to about 10-15K unique visitors a month, the remaining hits more than likely are repeat traffic.
I'm not sayin cats don't sell, I'm just saying figures are usually inflatted. There is nothing to be embarrased of. If you sold a few thousand on your own, that's very impressive. No need to multiply the figure you sold by 10. T.I sold about 20,000, Kem (Motown) did about 10,000, Eminem did about 5-10,000. I believe them.
Posted by: Regina at September 12, 2005 03:44 PM
I feel you...And judging from what I heard the only way these cats could have pushed 70,000 is if they had 70,000 close relatives. That shit is garbage. Dude asked if we should crank it or yank it? Yank the shit out that mutha til they catch whiplash!

Rob, You must don't get out much. I actually saw these cats at V-103s (For Sistas Only) a couple of years ago. They even announced them on the radio with the other acts. I've had a chance to see them live and they turned that shit out better than the big name acts. They have some fine ass dancers too. They also hosted the ball room at Toss Swade Teachers Ball and the room was Jammed packed and Crunk. I don't think that V-103 will just let anybody represent their events . With this being said if they are good enough for the BIG station. They must be doing it BIG.. CRANK IT REAL BIGGG*************
Posted by: Chad at September 13, 2005 10:49 AM

I heard a few of you mention Peach Bottom Girls, so I went and listened. This guy G-Lover sounds like Sir-Mix-A-Lot which wouldn't be a bad thing, if this wasn't 2005. Trina is a damn liar too, first she said she bang the album already and they are the truth, then she says...I am about to be customer 70,001 - get your story together. Ayo Skam, I thought I was the only one that peeped that the same person was posting trying to play like they are different people...somebody needs GED class.

Skam sto hateing..Crank it for the love

I listen to all 16 snippets on their web site. I must be honest . It truly sounds like they have some talent. Truthfully speaking there is not too many good songs on the radio now days anyway. Most people are quick to hate but when these niggas hit mainstream the haters be the biggest groopys. Stars are made every day and this group has obviously created some type of buzz. G-Lover sounds a little like Tupac and that alone will get him over. I like to give props to whom props are due. My honest opion is that they have great music and are very good business men. If you click al the way through their website you can see that it is optimized full e-commerce. i checked the buy check out page and they can receive currency from almost anywhere in the world. That's not easy to do and you have to get not onlu IRS clearnce to do that but you have to get international clearance to do that, and we all know that the IRS check a black hip hop group for any possible fraud or skam. If ther was in skam going on by three black men and the US government had to give clearence and they go cleard. That say a lot for their business savvy. That to me is even more impressive that the 70,000 figure which is very possible. Crank them for the business savvy

Thick Dancers?? Then I love it. Crank it
Posted by: Chris at September 13, 2005 03:20 PM
They actually sound better than most of the mainstream artist in heavy rotation. I attend UGA a lot of these white girls be playing that peach bottm song in their ipods. I bet most of their sales are from white females. I'm a black female and i like what they represent but we all know that most of hip hop is bought by whites. If it sells let's be happy for them not mad that another black company is being successful. If they were a white rock band from Atlanta we would not find it hard to believe. We are sometimes our own wort enemy. i'm actually proud to see my brothers doing good. i read some of their bio and they are really solid beneath the service. Believe it or not two of them are black college graduates. Crank it for the successful black business

The web site is a major site in the Europe. just visit www.glasswerk.co.uk and they have been buzzing about our very own hip hop group Amp Camp> They are blowing up big around the world while some of yall hateing at home. Posted by: darius at September 13, 2005 09:11 PM
They sound decent. I've released an independent album and I know how hard it is, so if they were able to sell that many copies, big ups to them. Glad to see that they were able to do it. Check me out at FLIPSIDE4EVER.COM

I went to their website and listend to the music. I sing myself. I wonder if they are looking for any new artist. They really sound good and I'm probally what you would call a Peach Bottom Girl with a pretty face. Who look better? Apple Bottoms or Peach Bottoms. ATL you already know the answer to that. crank it

Lijoh in jamica filming a flick (LOL)
Posted by: Kilo at September 14, 2005 02:13 AM
I am a music major at Clark. From a musical stand point, these guys know what they are doing. That's probally why they are selling so many units in other countries. The international market is totally different from Decatur and Bankhead. The smart thing is that they also have songs that appeal to this Dirty South market such as the peach bottom song. Wake up black people and learn something from Amp Camp. What we hear on local radio and in the local clubs will have you blinded about what's really going on. The Europe market don't give a fuck about what''s hot in the dirty south, they just like good music. I guess Amp Camp don't give a fuck about who's buying their music or what part of the world is buying their music. They just makeing that money. Crank it or Yank they probally can care less as long as people keep bying it.
