SOHH Gyant Randomness:Charla hit the nail right on the head. As a blogging community we all need to try to do better in what we put out there in the blogesphere. Present company included. You people kill me. When I say people I mean the so called new media; the bloggers and websites who have taken it upon themselves to be the so called journalists of this generation. I say so called because many of you are not journalists at all. In fact there is no journalistic integrity in 95% of the bullshit yall report. All you do is take rumors, gossip and down right lies and report them as fact. Think of all the blog rumors you have ever read. Do any of these blogs ever get proven as fact? I'm sure a few do, but when I say a few it's only about 5% because as I stated earlier 95% of what's reported is bullshit. There is no investigative journalism that goes into your stories. If I call a blogger right now and say, "Yo, I heard such and such got beat up last night," they will say, "Word?" "Let me make a few calls." Within minutes on their blog you see there is a rumor on there that says "Such and Such got beat up last night." What investigative journalism did you do to insure that "such and such" really did get beat up last night? You didn't do any research because you don't care about journalism. You care about getting your story up before necolebitchie.com or gyantscoop.com. You are more concerned with generating traffic to your blog or website than you are about reporting a factual story. That's the problem with the game today; if video killed the radio star then the Internet killed the journalist.
You know what our culture needs more of? We need more real journalists to write blogs. We need more real activist and intellectual thinkers like Boyce Watkins and Michael Eric Dyson to do video blogs and talk about the issues that effect our people on a daily basis. Think of all the hits that sites like mediatakeout.com and bossip.com get. There comes a point when you have to ask yourself why there is not more positive content on these sites? Why aren't real issues being addressed? How come everyone cares about Chris Brown whipping Rihanna's ass? Is it right for a man to hit a woman? Hell no? Does it happen on a daily basis, hell yeah! I've put my foot up a female's ass a couple times (when I was younger and believe me I got bad karma for it) but what is the issue? Or you blog sites and websites reporting it because your trying to make people realize that domestic violence is and issue that needs to be addressed or is your site just reporting it because it's Chris Brown and Rihanna?
I read a study that said approximately 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States. It also said intimate partner violence made up 20% of all nonfatal violent crime experienced by women. So domestic violence has been an issue but now since the victim is Rihanna yall give a fuck? This is what I call tabloid morals and pop culture values. Nobody really cares about the issue. You care about the celebrity. Case in point, a 15 year-old-girl gets arrested in Seattle, Washington and placed in a holding cell where she is beaten up brutally by two male cops! These two male cop's job is to protect and to serve. I don't think that protect means a young 15-year-old girl was supposed to protect her skull from the next blow by these crooked ass, pig ass cops. I don't think serve means that these two grown men where supposed to serve up a severe ass kicking to a minor. I'm looking at child abuse, abuse of power and men beating up on a female but I don't see you bloggers outraged about that. There is even a video online where you can see the attack and what provoked the officers but I don't see you calling for these cops' jobs the way you're calling for the death of Chris Brown's career. For the record the cops are only on administrative leave. Don't you think if there was more of an outrage from the media then more would have been done? Of course it would have but you people don't care about issues you care about the celebrity. Tabloid Morals and Pop culture values.
Another example of tabloid morals and pop culture values is the cartoon in the NY Post that depicted the cops shooting the monkey with the caption, "Guess they will have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill." We all know this was a racial jab thrown at President Barack Obama, but what if this same cartoon was published in reference to Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson? Would people have cared so much? No I don't think so because Brother Al and Brother Jesse are not the celebrities that Barack Obama is. I mean Rick Ross has been calling 50 Cent a monkey since their beef started and nobody has said that's wrong. Why is it wrong when the Post calls a black man a monkey? If the actual issue is a black man being called a monkey then the same people who are outraged over the Post calling Barack a monkey should be outraged over Rick Ross calling 50 a monkey right? I asked this same question on Twitter and Kitty Bradshaw responded because 50 is a rapper and Barack is the president. I responded that it shouldn't matter. Black pride should be black pride whether president or rapper and the bottom line is nobody should refer to another black person as a monkey. As I said, we don't care about issues we care about celebrity because we have tabloid morals and pop culture values.
In closing I would like to say the reason we are not taken serious when it comes to real issues is because people know we are full of shit. We only protest and complain when it's the hip thing to do. When the media makes it cool for celebrities to get involved then we all tend to want to get involved. IE: The Jena 6, the Sean Bell murder and Barack Obama's campaign. Once the cameras leave and the next scandal breaks out in Hollywood we tend to just fade away from the situation. Ask yourself if you are about the issues or the celebrity? Tabloid Morals and Pop Culture Values.
Streetfully Yours, Sincerely Gangsta Charlamagne Tha God
That was Real Talk and appreciate that..But at the same time, he ain't said shit the black people don't already know... He went of of subject bout the blogging to make a point which was successfull, but at the same time once he said "That's the problem with the game today; if video killed the radio star then the Internet killed the journalist."... Sounds like somebody still feel a lil salty...
Real Talk, Charla, made some really good points, but he ain't do nothing but re-affirm what black people ages 25 and over already know...I hate when mu'fuckas talk a good game but don't partake in it...Charlamagne is not a blogger, but nigga you was Wendy Williams side kick, and you co-signed some bogus rumorish shit before in your life too, especially on that damn show..So don' try to act all brand new and stop calling the kettle black...Cause I remeber a few incedences myself...Like the time when Method Man basically wanted to tear Wendy a new asshole, and Charla's ass was co-signing like a mutha with Wendy...And it was all rumors.....
So Charla, meant well, and this was a good piece, but at the same time, take yo hyprocritical, contradicting ass back to the drawing board...And try to think of other ways to keep your name out their...
On a positive note: Congrats for helping to get the first MC from S. Carolina to a major deal....
ive been saying this for years and glad someone finally said something! Thats exactly whats wrong with the world today is all they care about is pop culture fads and values. People are so hypocritical these days too. But I doubt things will change.
I agree 100%. As a blogger I have to say one thing. I never try to pass myself off as a journalist. this is not CNN. This is not MSNBC. This is necolebitchie.com and if you log on, you are logging on moreso for my opinion on what's going on rather than hard core facts. I tell you what I've heard and how I heard it (i heard via email, this person told me..take this with a grain of salt but according to this messageboard..and so on). It's all in the way you word things. I never knew this blogging thing would get so big so fast (who knew!!!) but now that it has and people are tuning in to blogs faster than their local news station, there does come a higher level of responsibility. The Influence these sites have over people are amazing but the line has to be drawn somewhere.
Thanks for voicing your opinion Charlamagne. Much respect!
Charlamagne shut da fukk up...who da fukk said YOUR BLACK ASS WAS A JOURNALIST???!?!?
As Clofresh says...your ass was co-signing WENDY WILLIAMS who is basically the symbolic mother of all these gossip bloggers, even though she's from a totally different format (RADIO)...
And the work that you did on Wendy Williams was pathetic and minstrel like at best, all u did is rant and byatch about rappers u didn't like, i never heard you discuss "spousal abuse", "negative imagery of blacks in the media".."money management for black youth" or any of those issues on that radio show...which is sad Bruh!!!
Because as an aspiring writer i looked up to you, when you had your column in the OZONE MAGAZINE, it was very enlightning and entertaining as well...but now you basically became a PARODY OF EVERYTHING YOU HAVE CRITIZED IN THIS SOHH BLOG that you just posted...and keep in mind you are being co-signed by one of the most GOSSIPIEST, BYATCH ASS BLOGGERS ON THE NET...Mr. GYANT...that nicca has no crediblity..i can't count the amount of times , he has tried to pass of rumors and urban legends as fact........
in the words of Jeezy ...charlamagne "BYATCH , GET YO MIND RIGHT"!
Yes, Charlamagne is guilty of some of the same gossip-mongering that he is complaining about, BUT I am sick and tired of b.s. like "he ain't do nothing but re-affirm what black people ages 25 and over already know"... It seems people always "KNOW" stuff but their actions don't fall in line with the that "knowledge". There are plenty of folks, black, white, etc that know better but don't do better. That ish is lame!!! People love to act like the next person can't point out nothing they don't already know... If more people did right you would hear less complaints.
Kettle, meet Pot. Pot, meet Kettle. Charlamagne, if you're gonna call out bloggers, at least get off your high horse and admit that you too are just as much a part of the problem. It's funny how you can play sidekick to a gossip queen one minute and then get all righteous and indignant in your rants about it the next. Please stop. Better to say nothing at all because it only makes you sound like a hypocrite. You can take a thousand more pictures with Farrakhan, but you still won't represent a positive element in the black community. You've had the power of the airwaves, but what have done to strengthen journalistic integrity? I've heard you on countless occasions talk reckless on air, spreading rumors and half-truths as these bloggers you complain about do. Your post expresses a valid point, but it won't be taken seriously coming from you.
Like everyone has already stated it hard to take someone serious who was a sidekick to Wendy Williams for a while. Also Gyant don't act you are above anything he said. You are just as much of the problem as all the other bloggers.
this comming from the sidekick of wendy williams????....Although he is right...he has no room to talk... being that he worked for the the queen bitch of gossip and rumors.
Wow...Gyant, this is a post in a long fucking time that you have gotten over whelming responses..For the past couple months, your post have been quite as shit, far as people commenting...The last time you got more than 10 responses is when you posted that XXX Soulja Boy article a while back....LMAO!!!...
LMAO @ Charlamagne for trying to act brand new... Cause after further thought, this dude use to call women all types of names like "donkey's, welfare case's, chicken heads, and all types of shit".. And for what, just to get a few laughs....And you have always been a hater...Now, this nigga wanna play the righteous roll....Fuck outta here you lame....You gets no respect...
Co-sign WBLS & Nat Turner 1000%...
Yeah Charl made some valid points, but he's a hypocrite cuz I used to hear him read us Mediatakeout DAILY on the radio! Even when he called them mediafakeout, he'd still read to us the next day & the next! NEVER did he read a Michael Eric Dyson passage on the air.
Charlamagne is the sidekick of the inspiration of all negative hip hop bloggers... Wendell Williams. LOL! I've heard this fool on the radio. He's a wack rapper and the consumate yes man. Charlamagne, go sit down somewhere. Your brown nosing days are over. Wendy Williams's entire career is based on recklessly accusing people of being GAY. Sometimes she was right but other times she couldn't care less if she was wrong and her followers ate it up. You sat next to that train wreck and co-signed all her garbage. If you want to know the truth, Wendy is the genesis of all that is wrong in hip hop media. She made it popular to target the talent rather than promote it and that cancer spread to other stations, magazines and yes, the NET. Her ratings increased with every bogus accusation and the game followed suit. Now tearing down artists is an industry. Start the clean up in your own house.
Yazmar.com provides STRICTLY ENTERTAINMENT ONLY!!! My word isn't law, and I'm not Diane Sawyer. Take it for what it is, read-laugh and be on your way.Ex-Sidekick Charlemagne made a few good points, however needs he should shut the phuck up!. Wendy's yes man for years did nothing but perpetuate gossip, rumors and ignorance on a daily basis. How dare you? You idiotic negro! What you think holds no merit with the black community whatsoever!. When I see/hear you, I think of a bafoon! You're nothing more than a turncoat, that no one takes seriously! Wendy has created various unfounded rumors throughout her entire career, so much so her life was threatened. WHY? To gain more listeners I suppose, and create drama. Charlemagne, pointing fingers will get you nowhere, and neither will that pic of you with Farrakhan!!
