This poster contained the cover shot for Gorilla Zoe's new album, showing the rapper smoking, drinking and packing a pistol in his pocket. Pearl C. Anderson is blanketed in signs prohibiting cigarettes, alcohol and weapons. The Atlanta-based rap star spoke to the middle school students at an assemby Friday, sharing a positive message.
"He was telling us how we should do better in our classes, how his life was when he was growing up, rap was his last opportunity," said one student. The event's promoter tells News 8, the school's principal signed off on the visit but the principal had little to say about sanctioning the poster giveaway.
"The spoken word is just as positive," Benita Noiel-Ashford said. [Source]
I
have to side with the principal on this one. I mean what the hell do
the parents want. These days the world is saturated with violence, sex
and adult content. Zoe's one of the more milder rappers out there in
the game. SOHH the fact that he would come to a school and try
to spread a positive message to today's youth, and become the target of
some overzealous reporters says a whole lot about our warped sense of
parenting. But Chris Brown can beat Rihanna's ass and they aren't up in arms about it. People kill me these days.
holy shit, gyant!! i usually don't have much to disagree with when it comes to your posts and in fact, i ride with you most times. but seriously? are you really gonna agree with this? how can a nigga give a positive message about doing better and being a better person and then promote violence and drug use (however sutle it may be) through a damn poster. it contradicts your whole motivational speech and you just look like a fucking retard. the nigga already suck at rapping. yes, there is violence in the world and them kids know it, but my guess is that the whole point of gorilla hoe being there was to promote (not only his album) but a way to AVOID such violence and wrong doing. if you don't see how this is misleading, then you are blind and just as ignorant as gorilla. this is a sad, gyant. you gotta do better!
well said by jo-mama. gorilla zoe's speech and his promotional material were complete contradictions. and if the world is saturated by sex and violence that does not mean that people should not be responsible for the images they portray and the messages they deliver. hey kids do good in school and get good grades and while your at it, heres a poster of me smoking a blunt, drinkin some sizzurup and busting my gat at the same time, you can hang that up in your room to really ingrain in you what a good role model i am.
pearl c. anderson is a middle school
I am actually a teacher at Pearl C. Middle School. The parents had nothing at all to do with the media attention. The complaining was solely on the part of the media. The media was linked to the visit of Gorilla Zoe by a school official looking for re-election. I do agree that the posters were a bit over the top and by the time it was noticed by the teachers, there were 300 posters in the room. Our principal admits that she left the trust in the DISD rep that brought Gorilla Zoe. I'm sure she has learned her lesson! His message was very positive and to be honest the kids have spent more time talking about his message; not the poster!
