March 2009 Archives

Ike Dirty breaks down whats wrong with the record industry.

Let the man tell the truth.

Check out part two below.

Yung Joc must be gearing up for a new album because I'm starting to see his music everywhere online. Here's  a new track he's got out with T-Pain/overworked/oversaturated that's kind of interesting. I said kind of. Check it out below.

The Frank Ski and Wanda Morning Show was graced with the presence of LA Reid last week when he was in town to help his son Aaron Reid gain some media attenton for some new business venture.

I think it's safe to say that I missed out a performance of a lifetime as one of the "Kings of The South" hopped up on stage to perform with Bobby Ray. Check out the classic performance above.

More info on T.I. below.

Keri Hilson brings the world of Alice in Wonderland to Atlanta as she celebrates the release of her first solo album "In A Perfect World." Set in a breathtaking decor, Music Business Politics re-created the fairytale world complete with a grass red carpet, flowers budding out of every nick and cranny, and a mystical tree growing from the center of the venue. Celebs in attendance included: Polow Da Don, Rich Boy, TI, Fabolous, Jermaine Dupri, Jazze Pha, and many more. Check out pictures and video recaps below.

It's a common misconception that T.I. is going to jail today. He's actually NOT going to jail, he's simply going for his sentencing.

I gotta show the Atlanta homie, Gorilla Zoe some luv on his sstrong album sales for this week.

Shad's new album has leaked. And though I was TEMPTED AS HELL to post that ish, I realized that my actions could be considered a bitch move, SOHH I thought it best to just give you a sampler.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eP1orMMkUG8/SJFlM_7vU7I/AAAAAAAAAbI/Lv4GCTM10rg/s400/ciara5.jpg

I was talking to an industry friend today, and Ciara happen to come up. As many of you know the Atlanta siren is on the verge of falling into obscurity because she's been unable to find another hit that her fans can connect with. The old Ciara is long gone. And the new one leaves much to be desired, which is why I found the photo above to be an accurate representation to fit the tone of this blog.

Never in a million years did I think that the girls would be going CRAZY for pint sized Bow Wow. But judging by the video above, clearly I'm out of touch with what tween girls want these days. Shad stopped by a Philly record store and all HELL BROKE LOOSE.

After more push backs then I can count - Keri Hilson is finally releasing her debut album, gleefully titled, In A Perfect World. While I have heard Keri's new album, I am conflicted in offering up my opinion just yet. It's not bad, but I can't decide if my assessment of the project is reflecting her talent as a vocalist/singer, or is it simply that there's not much out these days to really compare her to.

Well I'l be damned! Ludacris and Shawnna have teamed up for a dope record. Check it out below. Kids don't listen!

Where the hell have I been? What's this I am hearing about Little Scrappy.

Shawty Redd is one of those ATL producers/rappers that's allowed the politics of the music scene determine his future as an artist. Redd has been a ghostwriter for a handful of today's most popular MC's - most notably Snoop's "Sexual Seduction", but he hasn't been able to come from behind then pen and claim his spot as a real solo artist.

Damn you Soulja Boy...Just DAMN You!

I will admit that I was probably the first one to admit that Deandre Way was finished! His new album dropped with little - to no interests- from the fans. And I was convinced that S.B. was going to fall off into obscurity. But then the Atlanta teeny bopper dropped "Turn My Swag On" and it's been a wrap every since.

Speak into the blog will be a weekly post where the SOHH readers comments will be the main focus of the blog. Whether you know it or not a lot of people come to SOHH to get the feedback from the fans.

SOHH if you got something to say about the topics below - do ya thang.

Interscope records has just signed another artist out of Atlanta. His name is Verse and I got his new track below.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Shouts to Ricardo and Ron over at Def Jam for sending this info over.

Who new that neo soul singer-songwriter Anthony Hamilton's music would be the inspiration for Ford's newly remodeled Ford Taurus?

If you're like me then you are probably bored with hip-hop. The endless gimmicks and "beefs" have gotten to be too much for my spirit to handle. But sometimes, if you're lucky, you get a chance to hear someone SOHH incredible that it makes you want to give hip-hop another try. Tedashii is that dude.

SOHH Gyant Randomness:

Charlamagne Tha God is on a blogging war path. The radio personality, and budding TV star, is taking to the web to air out an industry I hold near and dear to my heart..BLOGGING. There's no denying that the bloggers of the world have changed the way EVERYBODY collects their information.  Rumors become fact, fact becomes rumors - and all the while - real journalists, that dedicated the time to master their craft are getting jobs taken away from them over bloggers.

So why don't ALL of us act with a greater sense of responsibility in what we report?

Charlamagne Tha God, like many others, is sick of it and is calling bloggers out. Check it out below.

Well respected journalist Jonathan Landrum has posted a very positive review on Block Entertainment Artist Gorilla Zoe. And seeing as though today is Tuesday, March 17th, 2008, which just SOHH happens to be the same day as Zoe's sophomore album release. Check out the review below.

Flo Rida rolled through Atlanta over the weekend. And earlier today I got a chance to chop it up with Florida scene. Alot of people may not give F.R. his props, but the dude is really killing it on the digital charts. He's racking stacks of cash with his new smash "Right Round", and is gearing up for his highly anticipated new album, R.O.O.T.S., which stands for (Route of Overcoming the Struggle).

I got a change to get the scoop regarding his take on 50 Cent and Rick Ross, Chris Brown and the official word on whether or not he'll be on the new album, etc. I also got Flo Rida to offer up some workout tips. Donna Pernell with Prime Phocus got some great shots of me and Flo chopping it up.Check them out below.

Everyone is rallying around Gucci Mane being released from jail. And of course Rolling Out Magazine got the first interview.

It's just a sample of what's to come, but it's still good to see the ATL homie getting luv from the city after being up AGAIN for some bullish.

Good to have you home, sir. Let's try better on staying out this time.

Estelle & Solange Knowles rolled through Atlanta last week to show us southern folks how they get down. And thanks to Estelle's team I got an all access pass.

Check out pics and my review below.

Fiona Simone is quickly becoming one of my favorite undiscovered artist. Real tallk; I am so tired of glammed up MC's who don't have any strong lyrical ability. But Fiona isn't that  type of artist. She's about REAL hip-hop music. She can flow, BUT she can also make a tight song [which a lot of people simply can't do].

I hear Fiona is in talks with some labels. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

DJ Shakim SOHH Atlanta Double Header After the jump.

Andree 3000 is an interesting fellow. I have lived in ATL for almost 5 years, and I have yet to meet the prolific MC. The only time I kind of ran into homie was when the angry lesbian with no soul was about to get attacked for snagging a picture of the rapper-turned-actor when all media was given SPECIFIC instructions NOT to  take any. SOHH I guess that could explain why I didn't hear a whisper about Dre's movie premiere over the weekend.

According to the blogging homie Freddy Yo, three-stacks was at the premiere of his new play, "Class of 3000?" t the Alliance Theater.

André's whole family came out to support him also in attendance was Kenny Burns his family, Big Boi who was with his lovely wife Sherlita and family, Janelle Monae, and the one and only Ms. Ciara.

March 3rd Grey Goose in conjunction with The Garner Circle PR teamed up to present HBO's "The Blacklist" at Cafe Circa hosted by V-103's Ramona Debreaux. The Blacklist is a prolific and compelling documentary on several notable African-American's including: Serena Williams, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Colin Powell, Russell Simmons, Chris Rock, Vernon Jordan, and many more.

SOHH, it looks like B.o.B. has shaken off what ever issues he was going through on the business side of this treacherous music industry. And has decided to return to the mic.

A couple of weeks ago I got hit left and right with a rumor that the budding MC had suddenly quit hip-hop.  I posted a blind item on the blog, and the aftermath resulted in virtually all BOB's fans losing their sh*t over the stunning Intel.

Watch the video above. Bobby seems to be good at handling the media.  Check out what he's talking about below.

Gorilla Zoe has ruffled some parent's feathers at a Dallas high school. While on his promtional tour for his highly anticipated sophomore CD, Don't Feed The Animals, some of Zoe's promotional material have left some parents saying, "what were you thinking".

This is probably the first, and last time that I'm gonna do this, but damn Keri Hilson's new song with Keyshia Cole and Trina is hot as f*ck!

Who would've thought that an artist who ALL y'all initially said that I was crazy and corny for cosigning is gearing up for his highly anticipated new CD. Check out hte album cover and tracklisting below.

THE SWEATBOX COMMANDMENTS

Keinon Johnson over at Interscope reminded me that today is the of Biggie's death. And to celebrate his memory he got with his producers to show their respect.

A.R. Shaw is an Atlanta hip-hop reporter who's taken his love of sneakers to a whole new level.

Shout out to Freddyo for getting out to Club Crucial over the weekend for his farewell performance. Clearly from the picture Shawty Lo and Tip have dapped and made up. SOHH over the gimmicks guys, really.

Check out some more flicks below.

Tity took a break last week, but he's back with a new video. Two Chainz TV follows the rapper to St Louis.

This is why I luv JD's energy. His ego will never allow anyone to get the last word. Though he didn't mention a brutha's name, or blog, clearly my comments about JD, who lives in Atlanta's biggest glass house, throwing stones, and not being able to take it - has struck a nerve.

Check out more of the buffoonery above.

Usher Raymond is eating dog shit now that the video that he JD, Jontha Austin, Bryan Michael-Cox and others posted online is coming under heavy criticism.

Here's what Usher released in a statement early this morning.

Though Jermaine Dupri has pulled down his video with he and those other moron's who decided to poke fun at celebrities on the same level, WSHH  snatched it up to live on their site forever.

J.D., Johnta Austin, Usher, Jermaine Dupri rag on Christina Millian's new look, Chris Brown and Rihanna & More. And though it's very tongue and cheek, these kats really got some nerve.

Isn't there an old saying that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?

It's that time again people.

Lebron James was everywhere this weekend while in Atlanta. And while I won't discuss the technical problems from one his affiiliates events that had everybody and their momma calling me complaining about wasting their time, Nicole Garner of The Garner Circle definitely had the party that everybody wanted to attend Saturday night.

The event planning and branding specialist did her thing at MF Buckhead. Check out the flix/my review below.

...well not the guys themselves, but their smash song did.

The singing/songwriting duo are the guys behind Jennifer Hudson's monstrous new single "If This Isn't Love".

Check out the Grammy award singer blowing her pipes on Oprah's stage below. This is definitely a good look for Timothy and Theron.
