.....OK, well not secrets, but I did get a chance to check out his new album just moments ago.
You know when I first had the opportunity of meeting Antwan "Big Boi" Patton, our encounter was tense to say the least. I had just written a not-so-nice review on his golf-inspired comedy [that I couldn't even tell you the name of],
and he was going through a stressful situation with his wife's - now
closed boutique- getting robbed. Three years ago when I first started blogging I was always out for
blood. So I'd become accustomed to getting lashed out on by ATL celebrities.
But look how things have come full circle, as I have had the rare opportunity of visiting Stankonia Studio's last night to check out Mr. Patton's highly anticipated new CD, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.
Yesterday I posted the officially first single that's floating around the web called "Ringtone". Now I'll be the first person to admit that I was on the fence with the song. And judging by all of my Twitter messages from some of today's top bloggers it looks like I wasn't alone.
However, last night after posting the blog, I got a phone call from Big Boi's fabulous publicist, Tamiko Hope
saying that Mr. Patton was finally ready to make good on his Summer 08
promise of me coming by to check out the new music. And when I tell you
that "Ringtone" doesn't do the album justice, I mean wow!
Sir Lucious is an eclectic album that highlights why hip-hop, and much of the world loves Outkast. It's 17 tracks of sheer brilliance. Hip-Hop continues to placed in a box, but Big Boi and Andree 3000 continue to break the musical mold with each musical project. These kats are not just rappers. That title alone is too limiting. They are musicians.
My
favorite track by far is "General Patton". The epic song takes your
breathe away, as B.B. lays his vocals over a track that is so funkadelic that I can't even articulate the words to describe it. And though Big Boi is still putting the finishing touches on the project, he's actually got enough material for a double album. The ATL legend even showed me the entire tracklisting, but I promised him that I wouldn't reveal it, so let's move one.
While, I'll make good on my promise to B.B. [and you know its killing me on the inside], I can tell you that the album doesn't have many collabo's outside of what you've already heard. But there will be appearances made by T.I. and Jaime Foxx.
One half of Outkast, Big Boi went into the lab with not-so-many well known producers. You won't hear the same 5 producers you hear on EVERYONE else's projects [you know it's the truth]. It seems that Big Boi enjoys keeping things simple and close to home with his team. The album features production from the likes of Malay, DJ Speedy, Scott Storch, J. Beatz and Lil John, with co-production by B.B. himself. And I got to mention Chris, the engineer and his lovely wife Mocha.
While the Internet has been chomping at the bit over their disappointment that "Royal Flush" never got a video, or that his politically inspired track with MJB titled "Something's Got To Give" was a downer, Big Boi decided to clear-up all the misunderstandings.
He told me that "Royal Flush" was a fun record that was never meant to be anything more than a gift to the fans. Andre 3000 was working on his now struggling clothing line at the time, and wouldn't have been available to shoot a video anyway.
And as far as "S.G.T.G.", Antwan stated that he felt the need to remove his album from the fourth quarter roster because of our current political climate. He felt that he the need to focus on the topic at hand - the economy. And though I thought the video was rather depressing, the musical-genius decided it was the right message for the time.
In
a time when true hip-hop fans are famished for real, quality music,
it's good to know, that though the times are changing for worse, Outkast is as right as rain and will always deliver solid music.
And as a gift to all of the online readers, Big Boi offered up an amazing track, that I was flipping out over when I heard called "For Your Sorrows".
[Listen To the EXCLUSIVE Track Here] or [Here]
Sir Lucious
is slated for a spring/summer release. Although B.B. was adamant that
it could drop earlier. His exact words were, 'It'll drop when I say so."
All
I know is that, you better invest in some serious stereo equipment
because with all that thump on his beats, a simple i-pod won't do it
justice.
Much props to Big Boi for embracing the bloggers of the world.
Talk to y'all lata,

Is that zshare link definitely working 'cos I can't get it to play?
Thanks for the run down. Can't wait to hear the album. George Clinton song is crazy!
OMG Gyant is not hating for once in his career, but the only time Outkast as a group or singly have only disappointed with the album Idlewild (which actually wasnt a bad album, but just didnt do so well Soundscan wise)
the zshare and sharebee links DO work, but the file is only playable in iTunes (not Windows Media Player)
