February 2009 Archives
This is what you call an opportunity of a lifetime! Well respected music executive Chaka Zulu, along with basketball star Lebron James have teamed up for James' new film "More Than A Game".
Distributed through Lions Gate, M.T.A.G. is a coming of age story chronicling Lebron's St. Vincent-St. Mary's high school days and subsequent rise to NBA stardom.
And now that the film is almost ready for national release, Chaka Zulu is hosting a private screening for Atlanta's most talented producers, artists, songwriters and record executives for soundtrack submissions.
The soundtrack is going to be released through Interscope records, which is a great look for anyone involved.
The screening will be hosted this Saturday, February 28th, 2009. If you KNOW you have what it takes to get put on, RSVP to the info on the flyer.
Groupies fall back on this one. This screening is for people who are about their business.
Special shout out to Chaka & Jamal Coleman for sending this information my way.
Talk to y'all lata,

A source close to Rocko has confirmed that the Atlanta "rapper" has just been released from jail. As we all know the embattled rapper, and Monica's fiancee, was serving time for allegedly assaulting a groupie.
This is probably the first time that I have ever posted a blind item on SOHH Atlanta, but the ish is so shocking that I got to put it out there. Carefully, though.
This just in..
You may not remember his face, but most of us, who are age appropriate, remembers R&B group Soul For Real. And today, it seems that a member from the once popular singing group is on the run.
Last week Concreteloop.com posted some disturbing pictures of hip-hop pioneer Chris 'Mac' Kelly from the Legendary group Kris Kross. Alot of rumors surrounding Chris' health have reached a fever pitch [partly because of me, SOHH I found it my bloggin' duty to reach out and get down to the truth. Check out my interview below from the former member of Kris Kross.
He clears the air regarding his heatlh, his current relationship with Jermaine Dupri & Da Brat and how silly Bow Wow and Souljah Boy's beef really is. Check out my exclusive below.
Over the weekend I observed an interesting sh*t storm develop between music fans and The New Music Cartel. For those of you who may not know, a handful of top music blogs have decided to join forces to become a dominating force in today's music scene. Nahright.com, Youheardthatnew.com, 2dopeboyz.com, Xcluisveszone.blogspot.com, Onsmash.com and dajaz1.com make up the gangsta's of new music.
And over the weekend when the crew decided to tag Kanye West & T-Pain's new song "Flight School" with their brand, hip-hop fans seemed to go ape sh*t because the song wasn't available to be downloaded without their tag playing throughout the record. That's when it hit me. "Could the NMC be on to something?"
South Carolina's got a new artist that's getting a lot of attention. His name is Jus Nice and he's got a smash that's garnering a lot of attention. Check it out below.
Last week I was telling you all about this new female MC in Atlanta who is AMAZING. Her name is Fiona Simone and she is the truth. Her flow is more then incredible, and her grind is unparalleled. And while, Souljah Boy considers his 'grindin' for a whole year to be impressive, Fiona has really grindin' to get her name out there for YEARS.
In an era where the entire music industry is trying to figure out how to use the internet to work for them rather than against them, a new blog article has emerged. Block ENT's Gorilla Zoe is gearing up for the release of his Sophomore album Don't Feed The Animals. And while his current single "Lost" is getting all kind of internet buzz, it seems that the radio charts don't reflect the internet luv.
Well, analyst John Robinson breaks down how radio is lost on Zoe's dope record.
If you haven't realized, Tity Two Chainz is definitely using the internet the RIGHT way, by chopping up some internet videos with all his celebrity connects. Check out a new episode from his online Webisode series.
This was the last show date, Tit chops it up on the studio bus with Stunna, Baby whatever you wanna call him and Keri Hilson "flips" Tit.
Lebron James is gonna be in ATL next week. Check below for all the details.
Someone who goes by the name "Retail Chick" is circulating an email around that's one of the realest emails I've seen in a minute. For all you independent artists, and well established ones; y'all need to take in her take on the mixtape. She's definitely taken the words right out of my mouth. Check it out below.
Shout out to Greenhitz for sending me over this new track from Young Dro and Yung LA. I know a lot of people have been waiting to see when Young Dro is going to drop a new album. Check out the new music below.
I got to give a major shout out to Bobby Valentino for scoring a major victory off his new album "The Rebirth". If you didn't know Mr. Valentino is on his own with his new label Blue Kolla Dreams. And it looks like Bobby and his team knows what they are doing because the R&B crooner made an impressive splash on billboard.
It's not often that I am able to give props to music mogul Jermaine Dupri. But apparently the the little tyke is quite the basketball player. I hear JD kicked ass for one of his favorite charities. The So So Def founder was one of five contestants to take part in the T-Mobile myFaves Shot of a Lifetime event, shooting up to five hoops with the opportunity to win up to $50,000 for their chosen charity.
In my mind I had already picked this as Tip's next single. "Dead & Gone" is easily one of my favorite tracks off Tips double platinum album 'Paper Trail'. And add the fact that the song has a message, which we SOHH desperately needs these days.
It's definitely SOHH Atlanta's 'Poppin or Floppin' audio of the week.
It seems like yesterday when I did my first post on Asher Roth. The Pennsylvania MC got panned by A LOT of the haters of the world, but look at how much has been accomplished in a little under a year. Asher is just about finished with his debut CD, or at least that's what Rap-up.com is suggesting.
Though I haven't been updated on Roth's situation in quite some time, a few choice NYC journalists got the opportunity to hear the project. Check out the review below.
B.O.B. drops some new hot ish.
And the updates keep rolling in...

Tity Two Chainz is getting into the online video market. Check him out as he gives you a birdseye view of what going on with his situation. The DTP representative hit a couple dates with Lil Wayne on the I Am Music tour.
This is some of the behind the scenes footage. More DTP material below.
It's that time again! Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) is accepting submissions for its 12th Annual Unsigned Urban Showcase, slated for April 23, 2009 in Atlanta. Last year's winner, Trimm, shared the stage with recent Grammy winner Lil' Wayne, Teyana Taylor and Sean Garrett.
In my earlier post I told you that I have two all access passes for two loyal SOHH.com readers. If you plan on going to Phoenix and would like to rube elbows with the likes of T.I., Amar'e Stoudmire, the entire Grand Hustle crew and more. But before you start packing your digital camera camera, you gotta answer some questions.
And you already know I got Intel for you below.
[Editor's Note: OJ's Label has sent the following response to this post since its original publishing: This is a mixtape, not his 1st album. It was released regionally due to his huge buzz in the South East. His real album will be in June. His single "Make The Trap Say Aye" is at 1,000 bds spins +250 spins this week, #34 on the Urban chart.]
It looks like all the 'hype' surrounding OJ Da Juiceman was just that...'hype'. An industry veteran is telling me that OJ's debut album "The Otha Side Of The Trap" is probably going to be 2009's biggest hip-hop flop.
I remember back in the Summer, Zone 4 Intel kept telling me that Rich Boy was coming with that HEAT on his new album. And unlike the hype over Keri Hilson, I actually believe them. Well, wait......
SOHH far I have heard two songs off Rich Boy's new album, tentatively titled '5 Million' [what's that about btw], and they seem to be pretty good. But, am I the only person wondering if hip-hop cares about this dude? It's no secret that females buy records, but did they really support homie with his first album?

There's a new record blazing up the Atlanta market by two kats who's still about the "Swag Movement". They go by the names Dre City and Jay. And though I'm a jaded son of a bitch, I think I like it.
T.I., Wayne, Jay-Z, Kanye & MIA performed for the Grammy's last night. But, was I the only person who wasn't impressed?
T.I.'s first episode of his new reality show, that's on MTV soon.
You got to love the close-ups so you can't tell WHERE in ATL he's at. LOL at the 5 Cigerello's.
I wonder what that's for?...

Here I was rolling a *cough* [kids under 18 - I'm talking about some grapes] when I scrolled upon this interview by my dude Lowkey at BET.com.
Why does Keri Hilson make it so easy for me/proving my point on every blog I've written about huh?
When I opened my email account and saw an email from Onsmash that said, Big Boi's new single "Ringtone", my heart dropped to my big toe. I never thought I would hear the iconic rappers name and ringtone paired in the same sentence unless it were talking about revenue streams.
But, thankfully, for me, it was the opposite of what I thought it was going to be.
[Listen To Ringtone Here]
The track isn't half bad. It's gonna get a lot of luv in Atlanta. But, I seriously doubt it can hold the project as a single. Sir Luscious Leftfoot is slated to drop later this year. But that's after numerous pushbacks, so clearly there's some artistic struggle going on between Big Boi and his label.
I don't know why Andre and Antwan keep bullshitin'. They keep dangling their 'reunion' in front of our faces. They better stop teasing us because you're anything like me, I'll wait for a little while, but after awhile I just give up and move one.
Monica knows that all too well. And by the looks of it, so will Keri Hilson.

What you're taking in is your exclusive first look at Phoenix
Sun's Amar'e Stoudmire's exclusive invitation to his All Star Weekend
parties. Only 300 were created, which will be handed out to various,
proven movers and shakers, in entertainment and sports.
Putting
it plainly, if you think you're a mover and shaker and you don't get
one of these invites, I think you'll have a sudden-rush of clarity as
to where you stand in the game. Listen, if you don't get a glamorous invite don't be mad - just accept the fact that you're not that hot!
The concept belongs to Atlanta's
own MusicBusinessPolitics, who is tirelessy at work to bring a unique
concept to all of Amar'e and Grand Hustle's eight parties. Yes, EIGHT!
For
all my Atlanta baller's who plan on being in Arizona for the popular
sports weekend, you already know I got all your Intel for you below.
What in Sam hell is this????!??!? Though I've been very impressed with Bow Wow's strategic marketing plan for his new album, he's appeared to have calmed down DRASTICALLY from the earlier part of 08.
But this new ad for his new album has me thinking "What The F*ck".
Shad, and I say this with luv, DON'T PLAY YOURSELF. "New Jack City" is a classic! That movie has so much swagger that anyone short of Nino Brown himself would be playin' themselves to try and hint, build or create any kind of album project off it.
This is just a BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, if I may add, Nino Brown didn't have a bird chest last time I checked. Nino was a swole up gangsta. Damn, now this brutha got me wanting to see the real deal again.
Why can't people ask folks outside their 'bubble" about ish before they go hard?
But y'all tell; am I right or will this concept work?
[Updated] Clearly I'm not alone. Check out the Twitter message I just got. Read below
OK. I'm not sure how in the hell Keri Hilson got me to finally co-sign her 'first single" part duex "Turnin Me Off"..wait a minute, yes I do! She got damn near every popular rapper on the damn remix.
Industry Veteran Chaka Zulu is having a birthday bash tonight @ STRAITS. And for all the fellas, and some ladies, who are wondering where all the chicks in the 'A' are going to be...
There gonna be here...

Tonight, join Chaka Zulu and the F.A.T Tuesday crew @ Straits, as we kick off the "Age of Aquarius".
(No cover.)
For all that know him take two minutes to call, text or email Chaka to say:
"Happy Birthday!"
And then Saturday.....
Many of you already know this, but I run into SOHH many people. And this weekend while checking out a new 'hot' MC, I had the pleasure of breaking out the Mac while a group of kats discussed Kanye West, among other things.
The main one talking, Jiggy is a character. I just had to post this ish. Why are SOHH many people worried about what Kanye is doing?
V103's Midday's are about to get a whole new upgrade as it's been announced that Ryan Cameron's co-host for "The Ryan Cameron Show" Elle Duncan will be replacing Porsche Foxx.
