Does today's music stand a chance without music video shows?
I got a call from a a publicist yesterday who brought up an
excellent point about how the cancellation of all today's music video
based shows is only going to end up hurting today's artist even more.
As we all know MTV has abandoned their original programing concept of
playing videos all day. BET has canceled Rap City and 106 & Park is
barely holding on. The artists of today are running out of platforms to
market their product.
Magazines and newspapers are going out of
business. Videos countdown shows have been prematurely considered to be
a thing of the past. People are simply running out of options. But why?
When
I was growing up back in the 90's [late 90's just so we're clear] music
fans had endless opportunities to run and catch the next hottest video.
In my day music videos were an intricate part of the an artists
platform - they needed them. And while WSHH, Dimewars, Youtube and
Onsmash has replaced to way people take in today's artists, television
is still in more peoples home than computers.
Though today's
music video can't hold a candle to the music videos from yesterday, I
still think we need to have a video-countdown show on telelvision.
There's a great way to do it too. It's all about merging the interrnet
with TV. Because while millions of people are on the world wide web
each day, there are still millions upon millions of people who are not
online to the capacity that they can have their music options taken
away.
I mean it's no secret that 106 & Park and BET are
struggling, but that still doesn't mean that you cancel shows all
together, does it? I would think that you'd simply go back to the drawing board. Find out what the
people want to see on television.
Who's with me on this one?
Do video contdown shows still have relevence in today's new media digitial era?
But Let's Move On.....
Soulja
Boy has released another video. Only this time it seems that the
Atlanta MC is noticeably calm and has shelved the the splabo-mess...for
now. And even though he's not challenging a friend to down an entire
bottle of Patron, the video is still interesting.
According to Soulja Boy, Nas killed hip-hop. Just watch the video.
Gyant says: I'm just glad the man isn't doing anything crazy in the video. As far
as his comments towards Nas, I have to respectfully disagree.
Oh And Before I Forget....
As we go into a New Year SOHH Atlanta is going to have A LOT of changes
coming up. Contest giveaways WAY bigger then before. Exclusive
interviews, etc. Make sure you sign up for the SOHH Atlanta eblast so
that I can keep you up to date on what's hot.
who writes this column? a 17-year old mental midget?? you want to be a writer, learn some grammar first. English 101; know when and how to use is and are. horrible...don't you fools have an editor?
I agree with Soulja Boy. Nas should have shut up. Though Soulja boy sucks as a rapper, I give him credit for producing the beat, writing the wack lyrics, marketing it himself and getting money at 15, 16, 17 years of age, he was gettin money, blame the consumers not him.
I see where SB is coming from, but Nas wasn't the first person to say Hip-Hop is dead...The was the talk of the streets on the east coast, mainly the tri-state area....Nas ran with that title to name his album simply for a marketing scheme that worked cause the album went on to sell over A Milli copies...Nas only reaffirmed what the east coast streets were talking about...
Can somebody answer me a question since we are on the fucking topic? Why does it seem like every new fresh artist that comes out that the public is not use too, and is clearly getting dat paper, people say that he is killing Hip-Hop???? Case in point:
Master P, Nelly, Peety Pablo,Mike Jones, D4L, Young Joc, Soulja Boy.
Note that all of them are from the south, and at one point in time in their career their was talk about them killing hip-hop...I'm sorry, but it is clear cut evidence to me that is just too much hate going on in the south....I mean, why are there not any east people claiming that some east coast rappers are killing hip-hop...Cause trust me i can name a few...When lame ass mims hit the scene, there was not talk bout him killing hip-hop, ya'll was just saying that he is a "Wack Ass Rapper"....Why can't ya'll label dat nigga for killing hip-hop????? Why the fuck is there a double standard when it comes to who is and who is not killing hip-hop???? East Coast niggas are definately some haters, that's why ya'll fell the fuck off...Stop hatin on the next man and congradulate that man....And i'm not even trying to start shit, i'm just staing the obvious...And I have nothing against the east coase...Sheeeeit, have my familyl from the east coast.... I'm just putting actual facts out their to be answered with out biased opinions...You feel me!
SB is a clown. He got lucky. Marketing plan, etc. We know its all politics. He cant rap, his beats suck and hip hop IS dead. It aint like it used to be. Aint nobody talking about nothing. everything evolves but, some things stay the same. He got lucky & he need to shut the )*#@ up and be happy cause his clock about to run out! Real talk. How you gone hate on a legend cause of how "he" feel? That man got the right to his opinion. This fake a&& industry dudes is funny to me. I bet a G he wont say that to nas face. These dudes is funny. lol. the real coming back, please believe it.
funny how dumb ass niggas think that computers have 3 uses 1. myspace 2. youtube 3. ebay well 4 actually and 4 (fo). how can I get money or copy what everyone else doing to get money.?!!? Niggas just get on the internet and n1gger it up. Dumb niggas don't know shit bout computers thats why you stay broke trying to use a computer. If you acutally had some computer knowledge besides point and click, and the world wide web, you would know how the fuck to get money. Anyone that knows about getting money off the internet 1. does not fuck with myspace 2. does not fuck with youtube 3. been doin it before all this bullshit myspace/facebook/twitter my asshole shit. Now the next famous asshole thing to do is to have a 'blog' get the fuck on with this bs, niggas sit back and watch the pros and continue sellin/smokin your crack.
only mufuckas that know how to use computers get fuckin cake. 1. bill gates, billions 2. geeks at google, billions 3. yahoo, billions Niggas get on and make their little dance videos on youtube, only 1, and make a couple million, lucky ONE. You see in the video, soulja fag homies eatin denny's take out, wheres the personal chef? Nigga act like he somebody got he got a laptop, nigga has 2 bookmarks, myspace and youtube, get the fuck outta here dumb niggas, stay sellin/smokin crack.
Dat whole video is sum bullshit, and anyabody dat agree wit em must be stupid. First of all, Jay-z came up wit "Best Rapper Alive"...jus had to clear dat up. Second, even tho east coast niggaz do be hatin, it aint about pure hate fa da south unless u say ti luda andre 3000 rick ross lil wayne etc. killed hip hop too. If u from da east coast m u say dat, suck a dick and die. And East coast gotta remember dat dey had dey fair share of whack ass rappers too. PLENTY. (nore keith murray black child memph bleek etc.) Anyway, what nas did only publcized what ppl was already thinkin because when they turned on they radio or they TV they kept on hearin da garbage dat niggaz like soulja boy was puttin out..."yaah bitch yahhh? And wayne aint shit on nas, cuz nas still got way more platinum albums den wayne, and still one of the best, so kill ya self.
@gyant killa...nas started gettin' money in the rap game at around the same age soulja boy was when he came in and nas was straight up lyrical so what the fuck is you talkin' about my nigga? soulja bitch is only sayin' this shit because he need a mothafuckin' scapegoat for the reason his album debuted at number 40 lmao!!! i'll at least give soulja bitch credit that he has been working hard at trying to not be a 1 hit wonder even though he already is and doesn't even realize it yet...wack ass music like what soulja boy puts out is also the reason why music programs on mtv and bet are gettin' shut down, all bet shows is nothing but old rerun sitcoms from the 70's and 90's, mtv shows nothin' but faggot ass reality shows...vh1 at least still be showin' music programs early in the morning or in the middle of the night when niggas is out partyin' or home sleepin', but they mainly show pop music videos....
First of all i have to agree Nas and Mobb Deep and im sure others started in the game around the same age as Soulja Boy but thats where they were from and what they were doing and surrounded by that they rapped about. Im sure Soulja Boy and his friends just sat around played video games went ot school and danced all crazy at parties and stuff so I cant get mad at him for rapping about what he does. I just chose not to listen to him. There was Digital Underground with the Humpty Hump dance back in the day and others that werent from the south that had dance songs and party songs but yall werent saying they were killing hip-hop then. The whole Hip-Hop started at house parties and stuff right? Also I think it does hurt the music industry cuz even though you have the internet I still get a lot of artist info off of seeing their videos on tv or on the radio that I wouldnt find on the internet then I would go check them out online. People go online ot get music of that they already know so If they dont have an outlet to see new stuff it will be hard for the artists.
ITS THE INDUSTRY'S FAULT 4 HIP HOP'S DEATH 4 MAKING RINGTONES AND DANCES THE STANDARD INSTEAD OF PEOPLE WHO CAN RAPP INSTEAD OF HOOK LIKE WHORES.
YOU YOUNGSTAS HAVE VERY LIL UNDERSTANDING ON SHIT. ALL YALL TALK THIS MONEY SHIT TO WIND UP BROKE AS SHIT 10 MINS LATER SO THAT CANT BE THE ANSWER, OR ALOT OF YALL FROM THE SUBURBS ON THIS HOOD SHIT WEARIN PINK AND TEAL. STOP SITTIN DOWN TO PISS
this dumbass souldjah boy don;t even know the recent history of hip hop. LIL WANYNE WAS NOT THE FIRST TO SAY "BEST RAPPER ALIVE"....Jay-z said it on the Black Album...song "Brush ya shoulders off". Where do ya think lil wanyne got that quote from?.....
Thats why Nas said hiphop was dead....niggaz don;t even do the history...they don't know who started what!
Man I thought I was the only one noticing all the hip hop shows on television being cancelled! Once again it all boils down to Content, Substance, and just mainly love for the culture as a whole. In all honesty Hip Hop needs mouth to mouth, and I seriously doubt that any of these new rappers out give a damn about the culture at all. because at this particular point your beginning to notice how the media is slowly backing off of hip hop related shows. I mean the freakin Deal (bet's latest hip hop show) is being played at night time around midnight or 1am. Soulja Boy Tell'em should defintely not use Nas as a scapegoat for his unfortunate decline, however Nas was on point with his statement hip hop is dead, and he never did direct his statement towards any region he merely pointed out the lack of creativity and originality the game suffered from. I think we need to bring everything back underground for one and shun the mainstream out completely, I think better business procedures should be placed in to secure an artist's longevity, and most importantly I believe that since hip hop is so global and diverse we can simply boycott the major record companies and television stations and make them put what WE the people want to see instead of seeing some washed down crap. I mean everything needs to be remade the founding fathers of our great culture have left this beautiful flower known as hip hop in our care we should take responsiblity to continue nurturing and feeding it the love it needs to continue growing and expanding. If we as the fans don't do something about this then we'll lose it forever we can still get it back all we have to do is band together and force them to change it to what we need it to be.
We killed hip hop when we started letting the big companies rape us for our talent. We killed what we wanted to see or hear because monetary value to a craft is bound to cease the art of the just. Nigz betta start doing this music thing for a hobby so they're indifferent to success and failure.
How are you going to break an artist without a national outlet. Sure you can do it old style but its a lot harder to go region by region building club and radio and even then it is a slow uneven process. Rap took off when natioonal cabel shows made it possible to break a group nationally.
Mufukaz amaze me. How can Nas Kill Hip Hop? Kick rocks slim, thats bullshit. Soulja Boy is salty thathis album isnt selling as well as is first effort, and to be honest I ain't mad a the lil nigga at all. There's always been lil niggas in hip hop, he's no different. Take it back a lil and think about that. Remember Illegal, Da Youngstas, Vicious, I mean damn yung! These two niggas dont own viacom or clear channel get the big picture! We are programmed what to like and what to listen o by people with more power than rappers ya dig? The best people can do is to just cop what they like and shut the fuck up. Plain and simple nobody killed shit but the check signers.
Bump what Soulja said. It's complete BS.
Oh, and I suscribed, man. Keep up the blogs.
