Gyant Album Review: Akon's Got His "Freedom" & Now He's Heading To Europe!

Last night I attended Akon's ultra-lavish listening session for his new album titled Freedom. Though I forgot my camera and missed out some great shots, it seems like Kanye West isn't the only one who's gone Euro.

The event was held at midtown's W. Hotel. DJ Drama and Trauma, Young Joc, Gorilla Zoe, Rico Brooks, Rock City, Devyne Stephens, Ray Daniels, Mika Means, Nicole Garner & others all came in celebration of Kon's new Euro-inspired album.

"Opulent" is probably the best adjective to describe Akon. And that same word would describe his sound for his new project. If you're not wealthy or do not have an opulent way of thinking than it's probably not going to make much sense to you. To me I can just see Akon's new album catering to the young, trendy, white kids of the world, that drive BMW's at 19 years-old and who's hobbies are dancin' with the white lady [thats an old skool term] and texting.

If substance is your thing [not that there's anything else to choose from] then Kon's album ain't for you. Y'all already know I'm still pissed at the damn "I'm So Paid"  sh*t with Wayne and Jeezy.

Call me a selfish bastard, but I want the more urban-inspired Akon. I'm SOHH not interested in the Euro version. I understand that entertainers are trying to branch out into other demographics in hopes of ensuring them a more noticeable and long lasting appeal, but there hasn't been many who've been able to pull that off.

I'm not sure what Akon's first single "Right Now [Na Na Na]" is doing in Europe, but here in the good US of A it's currently sitting at number 10 on Billboard.

Look, it's clear that this album wasn't necessarily made for the "urban" crowd, and after two albums of catering to us I'm not mad at the brother branching out to tap into other demo's.

Just make sure you bring it back to the A next time, sir.

Oh and next time, make sure you step your new media game up. You have no online presence for this new album, bruh. It might end up hurting you. I'm just sayin!

Talk to y'all lata,
