Russell Simmons Talks Hip-Hop & Financial Empowerment + SOHH ATL Mix [Independent Artist Edition]!

I've been meaning to run this video footage from Russell Simmons and his Hip-Hop Action Network's "Get Your Money Right" event that rolled through ATL two weeks ago. If you aren't familiar with the seminar, Russell gets a bunch of today's most popular/relevant entertainers and personalities to join him on the road to help young people understand financial accountability and empowerment.


And while we here @ SOHH.com, continue to question prominent hip-hop figures responsibility/insensitivity over our current-global financial devastation, Mr. Simmons's, of course, doesn't feel that hip-hop, in particular, should be singled out.  

When I was presented with the opportunity to ask one of the godfathers of hip-hop a question, I put on my Sway cap, imagine I had thick ass dreds and I went in on him.

It seems I was no match for Russell's side steppin'. How could I have possibly thought that I was going to get a real answer out of him on a red carpet?

As you can see Mr. Simmons once again is refusing to put hip-hop in it's place in the constant discussion on what specifically should rappers responsibility's be in dealing with today's young people.

Hopefully I can get the chance to really sit down with Mr. Simmons one day for a real man to man conversation on a lot of peoples concerns regarding hip-hop and our current society.

But until then, I guess the video will have to do.
