Does Young Jeezy Have What It Takes To Push 'The Recession" To Plat Success!

I got some Young Jeezy album information for you guys. But I can't decide if it's good or bad news.

I got the SoundScan numbers late yesterday, and I've been noticing for a few weeks that the Atlanta MC's newest album is starting to lose its steam on the charts. After riding it out on the charts for more then 7 weeks it looks like any hopes for platinum success is slowly diminishing. According to the new SoundScan reports, Mr. Jenkin's socially conscious album sold 26K copies this week, bringing his US total to 561,561.

But in today's shaky music industry I'm not sure if these numbers equate a commercial failure. Out of all the Def Jam artists that have dropped projects this year, this is easily one of the most successful ones. But I still held higher hopes for this project.

And now that we are officially in the fourth quarter [we are in fourth quater, right?] and with SOHH many albums dropping from bigger and more popular names, does the Young Jeezy have what it takes to push this album into platinums status?

Jeezy has just wrapped two video shoots in Atlanta, and the holiday season is coming up followed by the Grammy's, so I guess he could still ride it out at least 200, 000 more copies to push him into the low seven-hundred thousand range. But anything more then that seems extremely doubtful.

Platinum status or not, what did you think of the album? Did it live up to the hype?

I have still yet to here the project.

Let's see what happens here.

Story Developing....

Talk to y'all lata,

Worst one he ever done!

the recession was a hard ass album, the music industry is in hard times, dudes aint selling like they used, now the recession may not have those tracks that jump out and grab u with the quickness but once u actually listen to the album ud realize jeezy said sum shit on this one, im deff feeling it, its in heavy rotation wit me rite now, i found it better then paper trail and the carter 3 imo

I just new from the title of the album it wldn't go far!! Artist like Jeezy have what it take so when they drop I don't have to my own sound scan at HMV. I just cop it but he let me down on this 1. Like no shit muthafuckaz is struggling so when we listen to our fav. artist we wanna feel like "damn this album sure made me feel better bout myself". The nigga Pac always made me feel better and sells are low cause the artist are to commercial and they're putting out b/s music. just FALL WAY BACK and the yungz'll show you how to rock the mic!!

Allahu Akbar

i dnt know bout all that Jayo but it was a pretty good album. i think he chose the wrong songs to push the album. either him or his label. he did good by lettin loose Put On wit kanye to get everyone's attention. but Crazy World and Vacation wasnt good choices. i would have rather wanted to see Who Dat which i think is a guaranteed hit and maybe Im Amazing or Ambitions as a hustler. Hip Hip awards would of got a lot more points if he would of performed any of those but mainly Who Dat

I love this album, even though he completely swagger jacked Killer Mike, which i hate to say it, is becoming increasingly popular to do in hip-hop. Since when do Jeezy and his crew wear all-black, dote a black and white American flag, and talk about anything other then selling dope?! Oh ya, when he seen Killer do it. All these motherfuckers out here keep biting the best - your favorite rapper's favorite rapper (i.e. TI thinks Mike is the best beyond himself). Killer Mike's curse may be that he is way far beyond his time - or maybe his curse is that the stupid mainstream sheep who buy records are too slow to get it. Jeezy is TRYING to make an album with social commentary, but he gets lost in the pomp and circumstance surrounding the production and his propensity to talk about spending in excess (as if BMF was still home). Either way, Jeezy did make a great album, and i like Jeezy alot - i have met him a couple times and he is a stand-up dude. Maybe if he went back to what he was great at, dope-talk and thug motivation type songs, he would have gone platinum like the rest of his albums. The production on this album is paramount (9.5/10), leaving the disconnect to be in the lyrics and actual material on the album. Maybe the buying public is doing just what I am suggesting - telling him to be exactly what the public loves him to be - Mr. 17.5. It seems like everybody in hip-hop right now is trying really hard to be "extra," and I think this is a good example of what happens when the public bites you back for it.

funny shit, I was wondering the same thing yesterday when i saw his sales for the week and I gotta say that he just might make it across that platinum line, if not then he'll probably crack 800k in the end.
I haven't heard the album yet because that vacation song kinda threw me off, with a single like Put On I thought he was gonna throw out a single that was as hot as that joint, if not hotter (for example go getta,3 AM,go crazy etc...) because that vacation joint was just aight, wasn't fire.
The album should be hot though because the last two were.

Im with savage life on this one....they selected singles seem kinda rough to me...first off the " Put On" isnt necessarily a lead off type single but it di what it did casue u cant put kanye on a song and it not be a single...but I think they stuck to the script to his whole point in what he was trying to prove in this album so u cant be mad at that but there other songs on there that were stronger commercialy one of them being that "everything" with anthony hamilton and bad ass...the "who dat " was pretty hard too. But i jus think single selection hurt them on this album...and too many songs leaked out on the internet really didnt help out..the Put on remix wit Jay z got put out and it wasnt even on the album..so i dont knw what Def Jam was thinking but like i said they stuck to the script sol i guess they will be fine with one of there biggest southern act selling around 700,000 units.........?????????

I was sort of let down when i first heard the album cause i was wanting that trap or die jeezy to hit..But after listening to it over and over it grew on me..I must agree whoever picked vacation and crazyworld as the singles were wrong..they should have went with amazin or who dat or you dont know. Them joints are jeezy. Overall after listening to it his wordplay has improved but sometimes its that simple jeezy that makes you feel him.

Every time this dude drop something he got the same flow the same theme, and subject. It gets old after a while. the masses have moved on, he ain't gonna ever see the numbers he did with his first album. Kayne made put on hot. point blank, if he didn't do a feature it would have been alright.his time is up, we tired of hearing the same and delivery.

Who knows... if Obama wins, I would think "Black President" should get alot of airplay which could result in a pretty significant spike.

I think some of the tracks on this album went hard. Overall it was a decent album I think. I'm not saying it was omg amazing but it was pretty good.

Man.....Jeezy's albumn is fire...He has 12 certified bangers on that albumn. Jeezy will eventually just cross the plat line, it just may take a lil longer. Hey, Usher's lame ass albumn eventually went platinum after what, 4 mos on the charts. How can ya'll even question Jeezy. He is truly one of those rappers that stand out, and will sell A Milli.

@Muhfuggin D Dammit.....Nigga, Jeezy didn't swagger jack Killer Mike. When Killer Mike first came out, he was not rocking all black. He first hit the scene in 1999 with Outkast and dem, and dude was not rocking all black fool. His style back then was a polo type collard shirt and jeans. He still kept it greasy lookin though, but he was not wearing all black. Jeezy on the other hand has and always have been wearing all black even before he got all the fame. My man was rockin all black and black flaggin it when he put out "I am the A Town" which was back in 01 my nigga. So know ya facts before you open ya mouth.
@SAVAGE LIFE.....I agree with you on the fact that Jeezy chose the wrong songs to push the albumn. He should of choose "Welcome Back" as the first single, then hit em w/ "Put On", then maybe "Vacation"....He probably would of sold 700K by now...

Gyant, I don't understand how u were begging for a listen of that Luda, but you haven't even checked out the Recession album? What other albums had ur ears occupied around the time the album dropped?

I remember a blog you wrote explaining how one of your camera guys was roughed up by Jeezy's crew one nite(and you seemed pretty upset). I hope ur not creating this discussion out of spite, pointing out that Jeezy hasn't gone platinum yet? At least listen to the album before you ask someone else does he have what it takes.

You knw what though....Out of all the albumns that's droppin in the 4th quarter aint nobody talkin bout, Soulja Boy's albumn dropping right before X-Mas. I'm a grown man, and feel that Soulja Boy is for the kids, but at the same time, he is making a lot of noise and will "For Sure" go platinum. Especially dropping his sophomore right before the holidays. And i aint gonna lie, within just the past year, Soulja Boy has matured just a little bit. You can tell that the business ventures has made him smarter, and his swagg really is official.

@ Hi Hater....Man I don't knw why you listen to Gyant when talking about what albumns are hot. Just check dat nigga style, like he gonna knw whts really hood! Gyant is the same fool that said and I quote "I don't really care about my clothes, as long as my hat game is on point."!!! Nigga what!!! Where dey do that at!! First off, if you don't care bout the clothes, at least make sure your SHOE game is on point. Fuck a hat game nigga. Gyant couldn't tell a hot albumn from a lame albumn. Just check dat nigga style... Even when he said theatre of Mind was a hot albumn, my first reaction was "Nigga u trippin", and i haven't even heard the albumn. And i don't have too..You knw why, cause nobody bumps Luda's shit in the hood, not even in the A!!! I wish somebody tell me that i'm wrong. Gyant may be a good blogger, but when it comes to his music taste criticizing an albumn...Fuck dat nigga.

Going gold is not a failure and never has been. Right now if you go gold it's like someone going platinum in the 90's and going platinum is like going multi platinum in the 90's. Jeezy and Game both had successful albums to me neither one of them put a super single on their album like everyone else does with lollipop and song like that. Both Game and Jeezy came out with good albums talking about real things and so I didn't expect them to go platinum because neither one of them have a song on their album that could be released as a single and go platinum and that's what you need for your album to sell crazy numbers. Wayne had lollipop which the single went platinum and his album is multiplatinum and T.I. had whatever you like which also went platinum as a single and his album will be multiplatinum as well. What is dissapointing from a sales perspective is Lil Waynes numbers and this is why. He had do of spent like 10 million on promotion for that album and with all the success of lollipop he has still only moved about 2.5, yeah he will probably do 3 mill when it is all said and done but something that has been put out there as being so big should have done nelly or 50cent numbers. Just something to think about.

@ Golie3000......We need proof that Wayne or Ca$h Money paid bout 10 Milli for promotion of that albumn. That has not been confirmed by anybody. Those "Final" numbers that Nelly and 50 did were a total of world wide sales. They are only focusing on sales in the US right now. His total world wide numbers will be eventually shown, and i guarantee that he will sell at least 7 Milli if not go diamond. Ya'll need to do ya research and double check your facts before posting nonsense. Holla at ya boi!

He should have Dropped "My President Is Black" right after "I Put On". i just think that the album jams, but The all the beats sound the same.

The Recession was the shit to me! I'm loving it, the production was nasty and so was the message. I think he's not releasing the right singles though, there are a lot of other bangers on there besides "Vacation" that's my least fav song on the album. The US is under hard times though, the album is still the shit either way!

I vote the Recession the Best Album of the Year.
The reasons are because it is relevant with what is going on today, nice beats, and the lyrics are good also. and the most important reason is that he told the truth. The Gas was high, this presidential shit is crazy. Name one candidate in history to have a education like Obama and the knowledge. I mean alot of albums sold off hype. Lil wayne best songs was on the mixtape not the carter 3 and T.I. sold more because of the case and trials he went through. The music business is like politics nobody wants to hear the truth...becasue if you did youwould have bough tYoung Jeezy album. Its the only album I have bought this year tha ti can play right through(including the intro). other good albums this year was Bun B and the Game, but we still have the fourth quarter coming so who knows.

Hold on there C-Swagg, you must be out of your motherfucking mind bruh. Your Swagg name is really cute by the way. Maybe you should do like these faggot rappers and where a fuckin man purse with all that "swagg." Killer Mike was sellin dope in 1999! So ya, his clothes weren't part of him as an artist but more as a result him dressing like a "true" Zone1-6 dope boy. He has since become an artist and no longer sells dope. He wasnt on a marketing campaign at that point. Since he has left Outkast's shadow, and created his own company and stepped out on his own, check what he's been wearing. Check the "Home Alone wit dat Crack" album, or "I pledge Allegiance to the Grind." A COLLARD shirt huh? like greens out the pot, smart guy? fuck outta here - talkin wit words like "greasy" and "my man" you must really not be from down here huh? You must really have no fucking idea what you are talking about. Jeezy is a crip from just outside macon, so he wears a BLUE flag you silly bastard. Check the history for real, not just on no internet thuggin. This is, in fact, the truth. Killer Mike wore the "I am the street dream" t-shirt in 2004 in the ozone magazine. Jeezy's mixtape came out WAY after. Jeezy's "I am the A-town" was WAY after 2001. You are way off track - good try, buddy. A for effort. Now take your fag swag and get the fuck out my city. bitch.

RIP PIMP C

@ muhfuggin D Dammit.....You oh fuck boy nigga!!!. I never said I was from the A. I'm from Fl, Brevard County baby, Melbourne to be exact. So lets get that str8.....2nd, I have an education bruh, so just cause I may mix up my slang with real fuckin english, don't get mad at me. Nigga, I don't have to overly try to talk like i'm str8 from the hood with no sense like ya boi "Plies"!!! Yeah, I said, Plies is a fuck nigga too, and is exagerating on how Gunshine state n*ggas talk. Dat nigga is fraud. So, just cause i went away to college for a lil minute and advanced my vocab, don't mean that I aint from the South, Dick Head. It's mufucka's like you, that make it seem like that er'body from da south gotta talk like they never fuckin graduated from high school. N*ggas like you disgust me. You right about that niggas don't be saying greasy like dat down here, but nigga I said because it was the proper term to use at what i was trying to explain. So, you get da fuck outta here wit dat bullshit. So fuck boi, you need to stop throwin salt in da game and let niggas open they mind. I shouldn't even addressed your dumb, ignorant ass, but niggas gotta act like just cause a nigga get a lil education that he must not be from da south. Eat a dick nigga!

Silly bastard. the truth stands. you have refuted no part of my argument. You completely copped out of the argument because you know not the truth. Go down to Macon, ask around about Jeezy, and see if he is "black-flaggin." You will find quickly that he is a CRIP, like his slain homie Pookie Loc (RIP). I am born and raised in ATLANTA and you, my friend, are merely a spectator - i know these people in question - well. So, do not try to correct me and look all cool for your internet friends, especially without the proper information. My language was not overtly "hood" at all! nobody criticized your intellect or your vocab, just your corny ass name, the cheeseball nature of your slang, and your take on "facts." The truth remains, FUCK BOY. I, myself, am a college graduate. As a matter of fact, I graduated magna cum laude and am now attending law school. You want a cookie, sweetheart? HAHAHA. Take your man-purse and the rest of your faggot-rapper friends and get the hell on somewhere. You must not be from the south BECAUSE you're talking like you're from up-north (my man, greasy) with dick-up-your-ass swagg - that's why. I will no longer entertain your comments. The truth stands.

RIP PIMP C

@ Muhfuggin D Dammit... This is my last time addressing yo punk ass. First of all, nigga you dnt dem people. So stop dick ryding nigga. 2nd, u right, Jeezy is a crip, but being a crip don't mean dat u can't throw up da black flag. Cause if you really graduated magna cum laude, then you should know the true meanings of a black flag, Oh fuck nigga! It aint got shit to do w/a gang fuck boi. SO NIGGA, DO YOU WANT A COOKIE!!!! And what you mean my faggot rapper friends?????? You like Jeezy just as much as I do nigga. And that nigga far from gay.... Nigga you bi-polar....Go get da shit checked. And you the faggot.... bitch, what grown man you know uses the word "CUTE& SWEETHEART"....Nigga you gay and lame as fuck! And lastly, how the fuck you gonna tell me where I'm from.....Nigga, you can't read an accent nigga!. I seriously doubt that you graduated magna cum laude cause, they wouldn't think to say some of the most ignorant shit you've been spittin nigga. I'm out...U fraud!!!! "magna cum laude" my ass. You probably don't even know what it mean fuck boi!
