Gyant- you're just hating on Nelly because he got pissed at that photographer at the So So Def weekend.

You may be right that women are the biggest consumer of hip-hop music, but need I remind you of a great comedian that did an entire skit on the hypocrisy of women that are fans of rap, one moment ripping on rappers for misogynistic lyrics and the next moment shaking their asses on dance floors to that same music while exclaiming "that's not me he's talking about in this song"?

I'm a female and while I don't listen to much rap music today(80"s baby) I will say this. Nelly is not solely responsible for this video. If these females took more pride in themselves you wouldn't have had the video to begin with. You wouldn't have these rappers degrading our sistas the way they do. Gyant it's WRONG for you to blame Nelly for this, and you know it. Check your "beloved' sistas out who don't care enough about themselves to want someone to respect them.

A lot of deflection going on. First of all its ridiculous that as artists, rappers can acknowledge all of the ills and isms of society and then turn around a perpetuate them in a way that doesn't just present them but glorifies them and then turn around completely deny any responsibility for perpetuating them. If I go out and murder somebody right now I'm not less of a criminal because murder has existed for thousands of years before me. I'm still a fucking murderer and these niggas are still some fucking sexists. Are the women completely devoid of blame? Hell nah. But just as those women made a choice to be in those videos those rappers made a choice to give them an avenue to even be in those videos in the first place. Stop giving them the avenues and the options to degrade themselves for attention, start giving more attention to women who have more traits than ass shaking ability, and you'll see a lot less of these women not only in videos but on the streets and in clubs. Its not like these chicks is just walking up on video sets half naked and forcing themselves into the video, the rappers and their management are holding casting calls, auditions, and searches weeks and weeks ahead of video time in order to get these females there. Their role in the degradation is not just a blip on the map, it IS the damn map. Need I remind anyone of the basic principles of supply and demand lay so we can really see who has more of a role in this (those demanding it/rappers)?

Another thing, just want to correct the people that keep saying women are the main buyers of rap music. Women are the main buyers of music in general, but white people, particularly teenage white boys are the biggest buyers of hip hop music by a big margin. And thats the worst part about the type of message these Black rappers put out is that they know who their music is targeted to (teenagers) and who its getting to and they know that there is a severe problem as far as parenting within their own Black communities (the fathers aren't there and the mothers are working so many jobs they can't be there all the time) so they know these Black kids do not have the advantage of being able to separate music from reality as well as the white kids who are supporting the music the most (because they have direction from their parents). This means a white kid is readily able to see this gun totting violence and complete hatred for women in rap music as all a fantasy and he'll grow up, get married and lead a normal life. Not to mention the people on those videos and in those songs don't look like them so they have less of a tendency to associate themselves with them. Whereas the same young Black boy watching these grown ass men that look just like them with less direction from his parents, that, again I can't stress it enough, MOST RAPPERS ALREADY KNOW EXISTS, will see that same violence and misogyny and apply it to their real mindset. Same thing for young Black girls. Its pathetic that niggas will know the problems we're facing in our community and still take that "its not my job to raise your kids role". Nah it ain't their jobs, but it is their job to be more responsible about their music that they know is going unfiltered into the ears of impressionable young Black kids in the hood that lack solid leadership and foundation in the home.

Sheeeit...What ever dawg. I mean you make some valid points, but these are the same points that have been made since Snoop dropped Doggystyle. Why the hell is it the rappers responsibility. I mean are we as a race so damn fucked up that we are looking at rappers to be politically and commercially correct. I mean, what's the difference between the music industry and the movie biz? Nothing. We dont hold people who make graphic, disturbing, violent movies responsible for putting those images out to the public, so why should we do the same for rappers? I'll tell you why. It is because we are black. That's why the media, black and white want to hold rappers responsible. It seems that what white folks do on the big screen can be overlooked cause they are abundant and are represented in all industries good or bad. Black folks receives far too much bad press coverage regarding what we do in and out of our communities. Rappers wouldn't have this problem if we were represented well in the media, and show that we work in practically every industry as well. But no, they want to portray us constantly in a bad light, as dead beat fathers, drug dealers, uneducated etc. It's sad to constantly see this. In conclusion, there will always be scantily, raunchy, clad women in videos. Black folks are just mad, cause black women possess far more quality assests then their white counterpart. The big booties, and full figured bodies is what got everybody up in arms. I guarentee, that if most of the women in the videos were skinny malnutritioned type modes but still doing the exact same things in the videos, this wouldn't even be a discussion. As another post mentioned- this video is for adults. This video was created for those who also would patronize adult entertainment clubs. That video is not made for every one. How arrogant are yall! I am a female and I think that the video was great. My male friends LOVE that video. I am going to suggest to those who feel that Nelly is disrespectful should GET A LIFE. You dudes are making it like its a big deal and an overwhelming responsibility for rappers to make quality music. Sheit I might agree with you if it wasn't just barely 20 years ago that hip hop was nothing but quality and constructive music and it was still ill. They don't have stats saying young white males have 1/3 chance of going to prison in their lifestyle nor do they have stats saying gun violence is the number one killer of their young males so they don't need to be as worried about glorifying that shit in their entertainment. They don't have stats saying 75% of their kids are being born to single mothers or that more than half of them will never know their fathers, so they don't need to be as worried as us about making sure we are not perpetuating images of women being sex objects to be used and abandoned, even when they bear our children (cause we all know you niggas is growing up with the resounding belief that "these hoes ain't sheit, mane").
