Is Julia Beverly The Devil? Or Are Y'all Just Hatin'??

Shocking title isn't it? I wanted to post a title that was guaranteed
to get your attention. With the 3rd Annual Ozone Awards safely
behind us it seems that a lot of people are upset at some of the situations that occurred
at the hip-hop magazines' yearly event and of course are looking for my outspoken ass to air Julia
Beverly out.
I got a few emails and phone calls yesterday from industry
peeps that are fighting mad over what they claim to be a horrible hood event.
From numerous physical altercations, to a sudden abrupt ending to the award
show itself, it seems that fleeting Houston hip-hop community aren't happy with JB.
I'm hearing that there were far too many fights to count as the hip-hop event developed over the weekend into Monday. We already know that
Ricky Ross and his posse jumped DJ Vlad. SOHH Ya Heard spilled the beans on
that melee. And we also know about Mike Jones getting into fisticuffs with Trae
Tha Truth. But I hear there were a whole lotta brawls that were poppin' off
everywhere.
I'm also being told that during a touching Pimp C tribute
performed by Bun B a production glitch basically
ruined the mark of respect. Apparently as the crowd began to tear up over the sudden
passing of one of Texas
greatest musical assets suddenly the next category was announced over the loud
speakers, which I'm told enraged everybody.
Security seemed to also be a major problem as there wasn't enough
to handle the splaboo* mess of a crowd. It seems that the crowd got SOHH out of control that the award show was suddenly ended just as Big Boi was about to hit the stage
to give out an award. Apparently there was no room in the budget for an actual
engineer which was one of the main causes for the show being a disaster. I hear
that TJ of TJ's DJ's is extremely upset at how this situation played out. If
that's true TJ please reach out and let's talk about it.
But the thing I'm hearing that's pissing off a lot of my
media brethren is the fact that the publicist from this event [who shall
remain nameless] is instructing/demanding that all media take the high road and only focus
on the positive. Some feel the pressure of turning a blind eye SOHH that they don't
get blacklisted by Ozone Magazine. But y'all know I could give a rat's ass about
that.
I have yet to attend an Ozone Award ceremony. There's no particular
reason as to why I have not made it to one, I just haven't felt the need. I do
not know Julia on any level other than the occasional exchange of pleasantries
at events, but I hear she does have quite a reputation for being extremely
shady. That b*tch over at HOT 107.9 Mizz Shyneka even compared me to Julia
Beverly once in a heated email exchange in what I guess was an attempt to
insult me. [God that last sentence was SOHH S.R.]
I would imagine that some of the claims stem from homegirl
just being a minority [white and a woman] in the hip-hop community and
small minded people who are quick to dole out the "racist" card.
Did any of you attend the Ozone Awards? Was it really as bad
as I am being told or is Julia Beverly really the Devil?
Talk to y'all lata,

*splaboo - What Michael Jackson calls black people according to court documents.
The "race card" belongs to white folks, not us. It really gets my goat when Black people (who are usually apolitical at best or completely unsavvy at worst) try to use this term.
This term was created to keep you from voicing your perspective. It was created by the white media and once again, rather than educating ourselves to our own plight, we see Hispanics and Blacks using the term - like idiots.
Racism is institutional. It exists. It isn't a card. It is the truth.
With that said - I said a week ago, that this would be a ghetto, low-class, piece of crap event that would be an open invite from part-time dope dealers to showcase their raggedy flows, questionable income and stank attitudes. And guess what? It happened just as I called it.
Julia's reputation is no secret. Her knack for guilting people into "not ostracizing the white lady" it well known. White women, just like white men, run the fuck over black people in the music industry. The first chance they get at the wheel they do exactly what their men do. Get paid and rape everyone around them. Julia is no different.
How do you invite an entire country to an event and you can't even control the fights? Well, easy, if you cater to criminals, then the criminals will come to your event. And guess what they do when they come? Act like criminals.
Blacklisted by Ozone? Unless you are moving dime bags and eight balls you shouldn't care. Besides, advertisers blacklist magazines, not the other way around.
Oh, and the answer to your question is: Yes, she is the devil. Just like Lyor Cohen, Lighty, Diddy, Lovine and Reid. It may not be easy to pick a saint out of the crowd, but its always easy to spot a walking dildo. Helloo Julia.
Remember the Derrrty awards? Anything targeting the over the top buffoonery that is synonymous with Southern hip hop is bound to be a fiasco. Don't get me wrong, I like some southern music and respect their contribution to hip hop but from the moment regions other than NY started having a major influence in hip hop there's been a steady escalation in IGNORANCE. Starting with gangsta rap in LA which initiated drug rap in NY which in turn spread to all out Balla hip hop everywhere. The music went from ENTERTAINMENT to some bizzarro parallel world of psuedo-gangsters and uber-thugs. I liken this phase of rap to a musical version of "Revenge of The Nerds." It's where even CO's get in on the act. The funny thing is when the fans act surprised or betrayed when their "patron" gangsta rapper turns out to be a fraud. You modern fans and your favorite artists mirror each other perfectly. Most of you think you're hood because you wear a doo-rag and your fitted to the side. Lets not forget the lame ass tattoos. What gangster wouldn't have those? Everything you bozos know about the street you learned from hip hop. That's like learning how to fight from watching WWE. If it sounds like I'm sick of the lot of you it's because I am. While you nitwits use entertainment to act out your gangster fantasies people like Amy Winehouse and Robin Thicke are becoming SOUL singers in what amounts to musical gentrification. This site helped Julia Beverly a lot. Probably for 1 piece of silver and now they ask is she the devil? She's just the latest in a long line of white interlopers who capitalize on black ignorance. She can only do what we allow her to do.
@The Sponsor
Love your posts. good to see intelligent descussion on here.
MAN, IT AIN'T ENTIRELY HER FAULT FROM WHAT I'M HEARIN'. SHORTY COMES OUT AND GIVE INDEPENDENT HIP-HOP ARTISTS SHINE, "SHADY" OR NOT. SHE HELPED IN MANY WAYS AND IT AIN'T HER FAULT MU'FUCKAZ DON'T KNOW HOW TO ACT AT AN AWARD CEREMONY, PERIOD. SHE FOR THEM, AND THEY ACTIN' UP AND GIVIN' HER A BAD REP. MU*FUCKAZ JUST HATIN' DAWG. WE ALL KNOW THAT. WHEN ISH DON'T GO RIGHT, MU*FUCKAZ ALWAYS QUICK TO POINT THE FINGER BUT NEVER STEP BACK AND LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID! THEY'RE ACTIONS DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF AN EVENT JUST LIKE THE NEXT MAN. MAN!
to piggyback on NK... it wasn't her fault at all. I was there. The main reason the show got shut down was..."NI**AZ DON'T KNOW HOW TO ACT AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS" Period. In between taping, they asked (NO EXAGGERATION) at least 20 times for the people on the floor level that were just standing up to SIT YOUR ASS DOWN IN A SEAT. The host asked. the dj asked. The coordinators pleaded. Julia asked. Artists asked. Security started to move some people, but unless its "the laws" coming in to "correct & serve", fools don't seem to respect it. True their may have been some technical difficulties...but even during the Bun B / Pimp C tribute... Bun realized what was happening and just kept going. Shit happens, u know... what can you do?....
LONG STORY SHORT... Several performing artists brought entourages of people 30-40 DEEP!!! to sit at a table with 10 chairs!! that happened with several artists...so Do the math. Then the "left out" clowns without a seat just decided it was better to hover around their "masters" like some jackasses and not sit down and get off of the floor and barricades so the show could progress. After escalating threats by the fire marshall to shut the show down if no-one complied.... HE followed thru and the lights came on. Show done.
Nobody to blame but themselves.
She just was smart enough to exploit niggas at their finest, monkeying around. You cannot blame her for taking advantage of niggers igronance and vanity. Also to the person that said white people invented the race card, hmmh I do not know about that but Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farakahhan, and other so-called civil rights pastors and leaders have made their living off the race card just ask Johnny Cocharan ooops he's dead. Once again black men shake their heads of shame and niggers swang their dreads to the sambo muzik of igronance fame.
Yo!! Seriously I was there at the Ozone Awards 2008!!! I was there backstage and all I seen everything even with Trae hit the shit out of Mike Jones.... Yo!! The Po, Po's WAS REALLY TRIPPIN'' I seen this Julia Lady and she really looks FAKE AS SHIT!!! My people act as if they couldn't have seen that... SERIOUSLY!! JULIA IS A FAKE WHITE LADY!!!
DAWG, "FAKE WHITE LADY" OR NOT, I SAW THE CLIPS, NO I WASENT THERE, BUT IT DON'T TAKE A TODDLER TO REALIZE KATS WAS JUST ACTING A FOOL. AND IF JULIA WAS LOOKING AT BLACKS DISGUSTED- SHE SHOULD OF BEEN! I WOULD OF BEEN TOO DAMMIT. I SPEND MONEY AND PUT TIME AND EFFORTS TO SHOW INDIE AND PREMIER HIP-HOP SHINE AND THEY ACT LIKE THEY DON'T HAVE ANY DAMN SENSE. LIKE COACHSCOPER STATED, EVERYBODY INVOLVED GOTTA TELL PEOPLE TO SIT DOWN A CRAZY AMOUNT OF TIMES AND THEY STILL DON'T LISTEN?!?! SHIT I WOULD OF CUT THE LIGHTS ON MY DAMNSELF, HOP IN MY WHIP AND BOUNCE WITH MY "FAKE WHITE ASS" LOL. HOW DO U HAVE A FAKE ASS WHITE LADY ANYWAY? IS LYOR COHEN FAKE? IS JIMI IVINE FAKE? THESE ARE PREMIER EXECS WHO DON'T ACT LIKE "MOST URBANS" BUT DAMNED SURE HELP PUT EM ON THE MAP! SO WHAT THEY GAIN PROFIT?!?! WOULDNT YOU WITH YOUR BLACK ASS!??! LOL!!! I MEAN SERIOUSLY, WHO'S GONNA INVEST INTO SOMTHING AND NOT EXPECT A PROFIT???!?! AND EXPLOITNG BLACK PEOPLE?!?! NO NO NO, BLACK PEOPLE ARE EXPLOITING BLACK PEOPLE!!! MAN MOST OF US DON'T EVEN KNOW IT, BUT WE EXPLOIT OURSELVES EVERY DAMN DAY , EVERY DAMN SECOND. RECORDING OURSELVES BEATING UP EACH OTHER, HUSTLIN ON THE STREETS IN FRONT OF CAMERAS, RAPPERS DOING DVD CLIPS SHOWING OFF BUKOOS AMOUNT OF CASH AND JEWELRY ND GUNS AND SHIT.. NAH WE DO IT TO OURSELVES!! MAIN MEDIA "WHITE PEOPLE" JUST SIT BACK AND LAUGH JUST AS WE DO WHEN WE WATCH PEOPLE MAKE FOOLS OF THEMSELVES. SERIOUSLY, STOP POINTING FINGERS AND REALIZE MU*FUCKAS DON'T KNOW HOW TO ACT, LOL!!!
JUST SERIOUSLY THOUGH, NO MATTER HOW FAKE OR "SHADY" JULIA IS OR SEEMS (I DONT KNOW HER SO I DONT KNOW) BUT ONE THING IS FOR SURE. SHE HELPED OUT ALOT OF 'BLACK' INDIE ARTISTS COME UP. WHAT MORE CAN U ASK FOR OTHER THAN RESPECT FOR OTHERS AS FOR YOURSELF AS WELL.
SORRY FOR PREACHIN, CAN'T HELP IT
AND SORRY FOR CAPS, I JUST LIKE TYPIN IN CAPS, I AIN'T YELLIN', LOL!!
LOL ALSO WHY MIKE JONES AINT JUST PUNCH DUDE BACK INSTEAD TALKIN ALL CRAZY UNTIL THE POLICE CAME, LOL. SORRY THAT WAS FUNNY THOUGH, U GOTTA ADMIT
Man, I am from houston, I went to a few events at the Ozone awards, and I must say that it was ayight. It was a few problems with people boo-leggin passes and shyt, but you know its gonna be flaws at anything you go to. I dont know Julia personally, and I dont know how she act,but I have bad things about her,but I dont wanna talk down on her, but everybody knows Sizurp magazine is the real magazine in Houston. Nobody read that Ozone magazine bullsh*t down here.
While Sponsor is more eloquent, NK makes far more sense. Seriously: when in history have people that allow themselves to be exploited not been exploited, at worst. At best, profited from.
Say what the fucc does it matter if shes white or not, shes hustlin' and making money off of rap like everybody else is. Who cares if she's shady, shes a business-woman thats it. The ppl who messed up the awards are the people who we were giving the awards to, the artists. Kind of ironic.
my homeboy went as a label rep, and when hecame back he was laughin his ass off. told me that it was a hood ass event. teleprompter wasn't workin right, fire marshall was trippin, etc etc.
i mean, if they didnt' even have an engineer for the event, that's on ozone's people. if they didn't have enough chairs for the entourages, that's also on ozone. they should cater to their big names and COMMUNICATE with them to make sure the seats match the people. if they did their jobs right on that shit, these rappers wouldn't have to run game to get mor epeople in than they shoulda brought wit em.
anyway, my homeboy also said that mufuckas were actin a ass at the awards as well. this happens at any rap award ceremony. what do you expect? all this new money in the building and no kind of discipline? like, motha fuckas cna't even just chill and enjoy life and be happy with the fact that they are gettin money and just chill the fuck out. they have to still prove somethin. prove they're still hood... it's an insecurity issue.
now, it probably wasn't all the artists actin out, but the people around them tryin to prove themselves.
anywya, all in all, from what i know and from what i heard, it was a case of "when keepin it real goes wrong."
can we show some kind of respect to the venues we go to and the people that are hosting? if you dont' respect that person, why go to their event? and why can't you at least show respect DURING the event that YOU chose to show up to?
all I know gyannt is that you are a flaming faggot.. The reason why THE MOST HIGH destroyed sodom and gommorah was because of FAGGOTS.. He is going to destroy AMERICA BECAUSE OF FAGGOTS... you better come out of that shit you effeminate punk
@The Sponsor
We must as a people take responsibility for our actions. It is very difficult however, when our people are ignorant. White people use us as a tool for profits and have done so since slavery. We must continue to speak the truth about racism and point out these devils and run them from amongst us regardless to what they (white people) say and what our own ignorant people say. To this day our people like to defend "massa." SMH@black people. The bottom line is, we are portrayed through all mediums as barbaric, making us to appear inferior. The Ozone awards was indeed a medium. We can tell our people who the enemy is until we are blue in the face. There is no sense in arguing with a fool because no one could tell the difference. The higher truth lifts its voice, the louder error will scream until it is forever silenced into an oblivion. The Sponsor spoke the truth. Please believe it!
Man are we doing this again ? When something does not go as planned or when violence becomes the focus of an otherwise positive event, what do we do.... BLAME THE WHITE GUY !!! ITS EASY !!! Theres history involved that predicted a situation like this so it makes sense right ? Wrong, its the same history that should have precluded this very same type of situation. She is to blame for certain things, i.e. the overall organization of the event, and the fact that the Houston artists did not get that certain "shine" that would have made sense being that the event took place in Houston. However I was not there and I was not involved in the planning or production ( and Im sure none of the readers were either ) so I dont know if ther were factors involved that prevented the planners from developing a well rounded event that would satisfy both the artists and the fans. Bottom line is, ADULTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THERE ACTIONS !! THERE IS NO "WHITE DEVIL" IN THE BACKGROUND PULLING OUR OR THE ARTISTS PUPPET STRINGS. FUCK A POWER BROKER IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY THESE ARTISTS ARE THE MASTER OF THIER OWN DESTINY JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE. THE MORE WE AS A PEOPLE KEEP BLAMING OUR SHORTCOMINGS ON SOME "SECRET EVIL WHITE MACHINE" THE FARTHER WE STEP BACK AS A PEOPLE.
We as blacks are still fucked up! We quick to blame white people, yes racism is still very strong but that has nothing to do with the ignorance displayed by us from every coast. I give her props for what she trying to do. Who doing shit for Hip Hop for free anyways? We allow corner stores, gas stations, beauty supply stores, malls, jewelry stores, to get rich off us but complain about we stuck as a people. Blacks don't support blacks, bottom line. We insecure with ourselves so we love attacking others. If you over 20yrs old and making over 100,000 annually, how could you possibly want or start beef with another grown ass man, sure people can have opinions but we take shit to damn far. Nigga's claiming city's and blocks & don't own shit. These selfish as entertainer ain't shit but some ignorant MF's wit money & no knowledge of self or self worth. Everybody always God this & God made this possible, what about God when that ignorance bug bites yo ass, where God at then. I love being Black but it's 2008 & we more richer but more fucked up mentally than the 60's. Super lost generation!!!!!!!!!
All of you, every last one of you, is proving my point.
1. The white folks invited the worst of us.
2. The worst of us came.
3. The white folks made money.
4. The worst of us acted a fucking fool.
5. They are vultures, we are acting like WILLING victims.
Enough said.
Julia and her fake ass will be the main topic on our show this saturday 10am-5pm on Shade 45, Sirius. there is a lot of bullshit with the Ozone Awards that are seriously helping to seperate us in the Hip Hop world. She is more than fake.
I attended the TJ's DJ's / Ozone Award Weekend and have done so every year. To be honest, had I not had 2 clients on the ballot for the Awards, or if one of those clients didn't pay my way out there to do my job, I wouldn't have personally spent my own money to attend. Not because I don't support TJ & JB and their efforts, but because it isn't something "beneficial" for me professionally. I had a street team that I utilized there locally to pass out my flyers. (Cost effective and purpose driven).
I've been seeing a bunch of posts, emails, etc. on various blogs by people who DID NOT attend the event which I personally don't agree with because at the end of the day, someone else's opinion is being shared by some of these media outlets (like SOHH.com), and therefore it may not be all factual through actually witnessing the event themselves or being a part of the production team, etc who would be privy to such information.
Now, I was at the red carpet at 4:30 p.m. with one of my clients ready to do my job. On the tickets, the red carpet was due to be from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. The red carpet didn't open until 5:30 p.m. or so. (For what exact reason, I don't know but this was the beginning of the problem). Doors were supposed to close promptly @ 6 p.m. and the show was supposed to start at 7 p.m. That obviously didn't happen. The main set back was the celebrities and their entourages trying to secure tables on the floor that seats 10 for 30 in their pack. (This is where it goes wrong EVERY time and not just the Ozone Awards.) THAT was the main problem that set the show off late and it was just a snowball effect from there. There was a functional teleprompter, but the entourages who are too worried about being seen were IN THE WAY.
It didn't help that Trae got into the physical altercation with Mike Jones (which was 3 rows down from my seats) that started inside the arena and led to backstage after the police rallied them up. As well, the security did suck and there wasn't enough or they weren't in position before doors even opened up to allow for people to take their seats.
Yes, there was a technical malfunction when Bun B, Pimp C's Mom & Brother were on stage, which can be perceived as something totally disrespectful IF it was intentional.
At the end of the day, IN MY OPINION, JB is not a bad person. I don't hang out with her, call her on the phone, but we DO know each other and have dialogue with one another when necessary. People are taking stabs at her that I feel are not deserved. People are quick to BITCH and MOAN, talk about White Vs Black, how she's "pimpin" black people, etc. when at the end of the day - if you don't know her personally, if you haven't done business with her or walked in her shoes to know what she has gone through - then truly you need to shut the fuck up. NO ONE is perfect, period. I've handled the production of a 64 act concert in Atlanta in March 2007 and it went off without a hitch because I set the tone that if you are not at the stage [performer] at your scheduled time, you are NOT performing....I don't give a shit who you are and someone did miss out but everyone else was there and on time.
My recommendation to anyone trying to do something this large, you have to have CORPORATE people in position. This shit would never happen at the BET Awards, The MTV Awards, etc. So, my question is why is she treated any differently by the people being acknowledged? The ones' she shows the love to in her magazine, which excuse me, has been consistent and actually GOES to print every month and is distributed.
The "Entertainment Highway" is congested and a lot of wanna be, fake ass, back stabbing, living in a facade, socially ignorant fools need to move out of the way for people like myself who left Corporate America 3 years ago to do this shit full time for the LOVE of it while also trying to make a living.
Get to know someone before passing judgment on them. I'm a 37 year old WHITE woman engaged to a BLACK man who has been taken advantage of by a black artist and am owed $6000. It's not always the "white person" getting over.
I've gotten hit up by a few people directly regarding my post. Just so everyone understands my position, I'm not on a crusade as JB's defense attorney, I'm just playing devils advocate like I will do with many people that I speak to on a regular basis. Ask Isis with Word On The Streets Magazine. Everyone has an opinion as I stated, but it seems like there's a lot of "jumping on the bandwagon" rather than voicing an opinion from the jump. Why not "expose" or "express" the dissatisfaction before this situation? That's all I'm curious about.
Tell me.....if the award show was IMPECCABLE with no flaws.....would she be THE topic of discussion or would the award show be?
hiphopspy.com was the first blog I saw call out Ozone and Julia Beverly. Thank you to HHS for taking the risk to air your opinion.
I am not hating on Julia Beverly for trying to build a business. I give her credit for being a woman trying to build a business in the hip hop industry, trust me, it has it’s challenges.
At one point I reached out to Julia as another business woman in hip hop and she wouldn’t give me the time of day. She basically brushed me off saying “you can’t do anything for me.”
I’m not alone, I’ve heard story after story calling into question her character, commitment to actually making a positive difference in hip hop and her business practices.
To everyone with a bad experience I gave the same advice I gave myself, keep your head up, stay true to your character and commitment to the HH community and ignore the BS - we reap what we sow. If your opinion is right Karma will smack Julia in the face.
Time will tell.
Hip Hop Spy's post "Ozone awards are a Joke" was published on July 16 - they called out the fiasco nearly a month BEFORE the event.
http://www.hiphopspy.com/ozone-awards-are-a-joke/
The Global Grind community jumped all over it - thanking them for actually speaking their mind - echoing what many were already thinking.
I have had a heated exchange with Julia on more than one occasion, and I have the correspondence to prove it. She is such a wannabe who tries so hard to be something she is not, and tries to exploit Black artists all the time. I told her that her magazine was divisive, and trying to start fights among Black artists. The layout was sloppy and the photos were blurry and crappy. Her editiorals were the worst. She even backstabbed Elliot Wilson who gave her the publicity she craved by featuring excerpts from her magazine in XXL and spreading the word about Benzino's beef with her (although Elliot was wrong for giving this witch shine), and that's what paved the way for her to get advertisers and sponsors. If it wasn't for him, she would still be that 5 X 5 black and white rag putting her crap on people's car windshields.
