I've been paying close attention to this Ricky Ross debacle. And since the "The Boss of Miami" frequents Atlanta often y'all just know that I've got to add my two cents.

So as you all know by now Miami rapper Ricky Ross past has come back to sucker punch him right in the middle of his big ole belly. Reports started to leak last week that Ricky may not be as hood as he claimed to be. Rumors of him working as a correctional officer started to spiral out of control and it's clear that without thinking about what he was doing Ricky came out swinging by denying all allegations of his steady past. The man even went as far as to create a youtube video. Which you can watch below:

Since this video more pictures have surfaced showing an elated William Ross obtaining what looks like a certificate of acknowledgment while wearing a correctional officer's uniform. And if that wasn't ethering enough that damn thesmokinggun.com website went and obtained the man's check stubs proving that Ricky is just one big liar.

And while all of this has been mildly entertaining I can't help but ponder the magnitude of this situation. While I think that Ross should be held accountable for his actions of lying to try and protect his image, I feel that I am being forced to also hold us as a community accountable for making an individual feel that they have to hide or downplay their law abiding ways. And let's not get it twisted here it's not like the man worked as a correctional officer for 10 years or some sh*t. He did it for 18 months. And who said that he was ever a good, law abiding officer at that?

Why is it that in the hip-hop community, and in some instances even the black community, is it frowned upon to not be hood? In the early stages of rap the importance of coming from the streets and essentially sharing with the world the street's struggle was an important element to your success, however in today's hip-hop climate I believe that everyone realizes that most of the bruthas in the game come with some added inflation of their image or life story.

I personally was never a huge Ricky Ross fan. I can't think of one song the man's recorded other than the one with T-Pain that I've listened to. SOHH for me I just don't understand what the big deal is, exactly. Again, I understand the dishonesty element, but I can almost guarantee that if you would do a background check on 95% of today's rappers  you'd probably see that there is a whole lot of fakery going one *cough* Plies *cough*

I think Ricky Ross just needs to keep going forward in doing what he's doing and by next month people will move on to the next scandal. Let's hope the lesson everyone learns from this is just try to live your life authentically.

Talk to y'all lata,

What the hell??How you gone say its our fault as a community that he felt the need to lie??He is a grown ass man.Nobody told him to come out talking about how gangsta he is and how much dope he sold. That was a choice he made himself. And really...I don't care if he worked in a jail before. But how entertaining is it to see a rapper finally caught up in a lie???

don't care that much about this, yeah it's funny that he lied about his past, but his music is what it is and i'll still listen to it if he keeps it in the same direction and just changes the content to one that reflects his true life(if it's THAT different from the one portrayed in the previous songs)

Yeah, I agree with the first dude to comment. No one told Rick Ross that you have to act Gangsta. No one told him to adopt the name of a neighborhood ruining drug lord "Freeway Ricky Ross" and no one told him to lie about his past.

If he was real, he would've embraced his past and spoke on it for what it really was (whatever that is...).

It's like Gyant said, he only did it for 18 months. Everyone has held down a job they couldn't stand for the paper. I mean, I had my corporate stint before going into business on my own.

The real issue was completely created by Rick Ross. He felt the need to hide his past and (even more damaging) he felt the need to go down with the sinking ship despite the "writing on the wall" so to speak.

It's his behavior that makes this a note'worthy event. I mean, if he's that desperate to hide his past what else is in his closet that we don't know about?

If he had been true to his past, honestly, he would have been more interesting as an artist.

How many MC's out there have a past that involves trying to live the clean life of a law enforcement officer only to become disheartened by the whole system and embracing the Dark side? Now, I'm not saying that is what happened with this particular fat ass faux Goon, but that past would've probably been a closer representation of his background and a much more interesting one, too. I mean...thats some Darth Vader shit right there.

His whole "that shit is a fake, made by the fake to entertain the fake" quote is what sunk his own ship IMO....because he's now been labeled a fake...RIP

Man, there ain't no fuckin problem with him being a CO, I mean somebody needs to keep watch over them dumb niggaz killin their baby-mama's and shit. There's a job for everybody, nahmean?! But the thing that gets me is that he had all these little kids aspiring to run up and down I-95 moving weight because Rick Ross did it, and these little niggaz don't even know how they were bamboozled. I never liked Rick Ross from the get-go, so this just gives me another reason not to like him or his music. But y'all niggaz keep supporting ya boy--you buying his CD, then you also buying that chain around his neck.

Buncha bitch ass niggaz...

FIRST OF ALL, THE PROBLEM ISN'T NECESSARILY JUST THAT RICK ROSS WAS A C.O.,
IT'S THAT HE TRIED TO PUT DOPE IN OUR NOSES AND DENY/CONFUSE US ABOUT THE TRUTH...
AND GYANT, YOU ARE A LAME. IF YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT PLIES, COME OUT AND SAY IT...
YOU GOT OUT THE BED AND PUT YOUR PANTIES ON THIS MORNING FOLK.

Rappers lie all the time and Rick Ross is no exception. So he used to have a respectable law abiding job- no harm done. I would be more concerned if he was a DL rapper spreading STD.

Eh how about this. Forget Rick Ross, how about your own personal roasting. Nobody gives a f*ck about these lame ass parties you go to, or these "friends" in the industry you have. WTF is a Gyant and why did they give you supreme blogging authority? I log on here every other day to see if the REAL Sohh is back and all I get is your constant Wendy Williams Perez Hilton gossip. Mediatakeout and Bossip are fine on there own hahahaha....
I mean seriously though, let us know WTF and WhoTF is a Gyant and why do we have to read what you say? And who the hell is working on your site, Toys R Us? I could see a week or two but damn my n*gga, put some damn forums up lol....yall let yall whole company go down off some lil hacking...At least give some updates, I mean I miss debating sports allday...I dont give two sh*ts that LL Cool Js album release party in Kissimee Texas was wack, you bamma ass...

THIS IS THE PROBLEM GYANT.......

fact....his check stub say he left on good terms.
fact.....he been hiding this

question...why lie? This dude could be da da police now.

His drug ties could be real....undercover?
He could be the damn hip hop police! Miami got the largest hip hop police dpt....

also....who decides to be da police....then decides to be a street nigga? a damn undercover.

What is worst, the fact that he lied about being a CO or the fact that he was a CO at one point in time? But again, how do you get mad at a rapper lying about his past or present lifestyle? Hell, 98% of rappers these days are lying about either their past criminal activities or their present "rags to riches" fame. What is funny to me is some people are really upset about this. Whatever. Some fans need to get a life and stop following so close to theirs.

HEY GYANT MY COUSIN SPIDER LOC & 40 GLOC AND THE REST OF THE CRIPS G-CHECK THAT BITCH LIL WAYNE AND BABY. THEY WERE SCARED TO COME OUTTA THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!! VIDEO LINK BELOW!!!!!!!!

He should not have lied. I agree on that part. He is under pressure to uphold an image because he understands that people are idiots and will think that he was not street because he had a job at one point in his life. So what he was a CO for 18 months btwn 95-97. That still leaves 97-05. What was he doin durin that time. Also for you dumb fucks out there, CO's are not police officers, they are Security guards, which is not equivalent to police officers. You fake ass, lame ass, don't understand the game, wanna be street niggas, don't know what the hell you talkin bout and nothin but gullable idiot ass niggas. This only proves he had a day job at one point in his life and does not prove he wasn't street. Who is to say that he did not become a street hustler after that job? He was only makin 22,000 a year as a CO, so couldn't that possibly be motivation to become a street hustler? I kno street hustlers that worked at KFC and Mcdonalds before they became street hustlers. So if pictures of niggas in a mcdonalds uniform and headset surfaced, I'll admit that shit would be comedy lol! But it is only a tool to destroy credibility but it does not prove they weren't street hustlers. It only proves they were employed before. You got employees that sell drugs in the workplace and in the parking lot. So Rick Ross being employed means nothing if we examine this closely. So What Rick Ross now has to show you a picture of him holding a brick? NO! That would be foolish and he would be under investigation and thrown in jail. So this makes it easy for a hater to post a picture or find out if a street nigga had a day job, post a picture of him as employee of the month, to destroy credibility in the foolish minds of the people who are caught up in images and not in truth. Even Police Officers sell drugs and are crooked and be stealing drug money. SO we have to think. Not all cops obey the law. Rick Ross was never a cop. He was prison security guard, that's what a CO is, not a Cop. So yall are really speaking like truly ignorant human beings.

REAL TALK YOU SOUND LIKE A PATHETIC STAN & BITCH RUNNING BEHIND THIS FAKE ASS PABLO ESCOBAR'S BACK STORY, NIGGA STOP WINING YOUR IDOL IS EXPOSED AS A FUGGIN FRAUD. GET OVER IT AND TAKE DOWN YOU RICK ROSS POSTER IN YOU BEDROOM FUGGIN PHAG

G-UNOT KILLA! You really ought to be ashamed of yourself, perpetrating like an online thug. E-bangin and shit like that LOL! Its really comical. Talkin tough online cause you know you can't get smacked for those bitch and fag comments you make. In person people like you are not so brave. If you were, you would not have the need to be so aggressive online. G-Unit doesn't have the best reputation and are not widely accepted by street niggas either as bein real niggas like that. I'm not saying they soft, niggas is men at the end of the day. But as far as the code of the streets G-unit is known for violating some of those.CO's aren't soft either. You can't be soft and deal with inmates. My last point is, you say I sound like a Stan, but I only spoke what was real. I don't claim to be a Rick Ross fan. You represent yourself as the "G-unot Killa," so who is the real stan here? I will not respond after this if you make additional comments. You are not worthy of anymore conversation because you speak so ignorantly.

He should've just kept it real. There is nothing wrong with being a regular joe. Everybody ain't gangster. He became successful off of lying about being a drug dealing gangster which is kind of disappointing to me. Stop all the lying and be yourself.
