Did Cash Money And Universal Hurt "The Carter III"? Plus, Playaz Circle Drops A New Video!

OK, so I have sat back and waited to see how Lil' Wayne and his record label were going to handle the leak of his new album The Carter III. Personally I thought that the release date should’ve been moved up to combat the rampant downloads. But alas, they kept the course and the new CD drops today.

But you got to wonder; is it going to sell well?

I was discussing the Wayne leak with an industry associate over the weekend and I expressed my perplexity at Cash Money Records, whose parent company is Universal, decision to not advance Lil' Wayne’s release date. But the response my industry brethren shared with me confused me even more than my original question.

Could Cash Money feel that the hood is going to stand up and support Wayne’s album? SOHH much SOHH they feel that the people who downloaded The Carter III aren’t their target audience? If that’s there thought process on the situation then I really have to look at them with the sideways stare.

The notion that the hood, a community that is notorious for purchasing bootleg copies and not really supporting their artists is Wayne’s target audience is ludicrous to me. Have I lost touch with demographics or hasn’t it been proven time and time again that white kids and women support entertainers more SOHH than any other demographic?

Call me an assh*le but if Universal and Cash Money think that the uncontrolled downloads of the past two weeks will not have an impact on Lil' Wayne’s overall sales then they need to close up shop and call it a day…indefinitely.

In my opinion The Carter III could’ve been the biggest selling hip-hop album of the year, hell the last two years despite the lacking lyrical execution of Lil' Wayne â€" if only they would have played their hand a little better.

What do you guys think? Is the album leak going to affect record sales drastically? Should Wayne have released that b*tch last week rather than keep his original release date? Or is Gyant just one big hater?

Playaz Circle is still doing the damn thing with the videos. Note to all rappers in the game you don't have to wait around for the label to approve budgets for you to still promote your music.

Stop being SOHH lazy. Check the video below.

I totally agree with ya G on that they should of dropped earlier....The demographics are what they have been for cd sales....ask 50 or Em if they would just depend on the "hood" to help them sell 5 million copies?????

I'm a big lil Wayne fan and I'm one that gownloaded it last week. And as soon as I heard it all I put in my order for the 2 disk copy the next day. People just gotta start supporting these rappers. If you got money to by a bootleg then support tha rapper. If it wasn't for them then what would we listen to.

Hell yeah they botched it, this album has been available for free for like two weeks now and with most Lil Wayne fans already known for downloading his music for free why would they have any real need to pay for it? Aside from the fact that it is a sub par album at best its download has been hyped almost as much as its official release. He might still go platinum, might. We'll see though, I expect a decent first week still but then a plummet like the titanic. He won't do Kanye numbers.

Just got back from Best Buy and shit is selling like hot cakes! They were down to 5 copies after I left! So far the first tracks are right. I skipped downloading the album b/c I really wanted to hear this in the white escalade and let the 12's bump. I'm fucking somebody's daughter to the Carter 3 this weekend. Believe that!

Herbz wut it dew?

YES...U ARE A HATER! LOL..I KID I KID

YES THEY DEFINITELY SHOULD HAVE MOVED THE DATE UP...EVEN BEFORE THE LEAK!! THE BUZZ WAS CRAZY FOR AT LEAST A MONTH NOW...DEFINITELY SHOULD HAVE MOVED UP! MYSELF, I DON'T EVEN BUY CDS ANYMORE...SO THEY F*CKED THEMSELVES WITH THAT FOOLWANY BUT OHHHH WELL! HE STILL WILL DO PRETTY WELL.

Lil Wayne is not from Atlanta. Why are you bloggin about him?

PS. Kanye, 50 Cent, Jay Z......... (the list goes on) albums leaked and NOBODY pushed thier release date up. Yet another pointless blog.

That Carter 3 is wack Straight wack yo !!

i use illegal downloads as like a preview so then i know if i wanna spend my money or not. im gonna buy it. i think wayne should stop doin so many mixtapes though cus to me that makes it seem like you really dont care if people r gettin you music for free. he could make alot of money off of a tour if he does one cus the record business as far as sellin records aint doin so good. even for people who sell alot they got a really strong fanbase.

"The hood" can buy whips, real designer clothes, real jewels and any other thing they want just about, how can you be ignorant enough to believe that we dont have ten dollars? We support our own in the south and posts like these only propel us to even more diligently. Yes I agree they would have done better to push the date up, but dont make assumptions based on unproven theory. I got bootleg Kanye, but he "went gold in a week son!" Go ahead with your reasoning though, we all know how right you were about Usher.

I got the bootleg and I'm not going to sit here and fcuking lie about going to buy it in the stores, even though it's a decent album...sorry truth hurts

Lets be real, 1 week isnt going to affect overall sales or even first week sales. The only niggas downloading that shit is people who be on the net all day. Half the people that downloaded that shit are Weezy haters who werent going to buy the album anyway.

People were lining up outside of Target down here so I don't think it'll hurt him too much. Lets be honest if you was going to buy the albume before the leak you would've bought it anyway. As far as it being bootlegged the cheapskates would've just waited til today to download it.

yeah they should have pushed up the date, cause now people know that the album is aight and not a classic so that might hurt his sales. Yall need to understand what real rap is, real talk.

The downloading will affect the album sales. Universal should have moved the release date up. And yes, Gyant, although your right on both of these questions, you are still in fact, a hater.

Aye that Duffle Bag video is dope, good to see them boys making they on way thru the game...

I agree w/ dat second to last paragraph. Da carter 3 woulda been da biggest selling album of the year. PERIOD. Wayne mah fav rapper, i feel like im one of his biggest fans, and i still aint downloaded the carter 3. I listened to a few songs on youtube tho. and so far, theyve all be raw as hell. Im gittin it on friday and i think it's gon be alotta people who do da same. he gon sell at least 500,000. rememember usher leaked too, and he still sold 400k+.

GO GET THA CARTER 3! plz

MAN DIS ALBUM BRAZY
YEA I HEARD B4 IT BAME OUT BUT I JUS BOUGHT IT FROM BEST BUY 4 12.99

CASH MONEY
YUNG MONEY
4 YALL WHO HATIN 4 NO
REASON

I agree with ATL, Kanye's got leaked also but he still sold 937K first week. Wayne, in my opinion is at least gonna see 830K this week. I'm buying the album and yes mostly white kids and women buy albums.

I got the bootleg AND was at the store an hour after it opened to buy it. It's not a classic, but there's at least 6 classic songs on it. I don't buy many CDs... 2 this year - so, me buyin it says somethin. Support those who feed the streets and who been feedin the streets like weezy? NOBODY since the Diplomats of a couple years ago.

YEA I COPPED THAT LIL WAYNE AND THE KEAK DA SNEAK AND BOTH WERE FLYIN OFF THE SHELF IN THA YAY AREA

KEEP IT GHETTO

I'm sorry but I'm from the midwest and erybdy knws we count for 50% of cd sales, aint nobdy calld me sayin thy bout C3, I got the bootleg and the shit is mediocre. Lolli pop, Dnt get Comfortable, maybe 3 more thats it, the rest basic.

I AS A FAN THOUGHT THEY SHOULD'VE PUSHED IT UP,AND SHOT D.J. CHUCK T FOR THAT FUCK SHIT.BUT,MY OL' LADY WENT TO BEST BUY AT 10:30 THIS MORNING AND HER AND THE NIGGA THAT CAME IN BEFORE HER GRAB THE LAST TWO.TWO OTHER NIGGAS TRIED TO BUY MINE FROM MY WIFE AND ENDED UP HAVING TO GO ACROSS THE STREET TO CURCUIT CITY

weezy gon sell regardless!! das why dey bootleggd it neway he got paper!! he da only rapper wit dat live hip hop sound...

I downloaded it and sold over 200 copies of it. am I going out to buy it from the store? hell no that nigga already got cake why should I spend my money to make him richer?

I really want your feedback on this Gyant, so indulge me. Don't you all think that Billboard's platinum standard of 1,000,000 copies should be revised now that CDs and tapes are no longer the main format of music distribution. I beleive that platinum should be 500,000 records and gold should be 250,000. It only makes sense because CD sales are NEVER gonna improve and musicians (especially rappers) constantly judge themselves as failures unless they meet some kind of plaque status.

LIL WAYNE IS GOD. MAY A DICK SUCKING DEVIL DIE SLOW

They should have pushed it back and see what's already leaked because most songs on the cd were already on mixtapes b4 the cd dropped....I feel that the label rushed and threw the cd 2gether...the cd is ok but we could've got more songs than 16

FUCK THAT!!! Man FUCK THESE RICH ASS NIGGAZ!! I will download and get any bootlegged copy!! I don't give a shit......... Fuck them rich boastin' ass niggaz....... I will ride in my trucks and jam bootleg shit all day...

I got the cd early this morning and I got the last 1 from best buy so he selling and they said more whites was buying I guess since you Dumb azz Ni**as don't support your artist somebody had to, O and gyant you are a hater
