the dj is dead..dudes are focused more on everything except skills which makes it look easier for anyone to jump into the game..now you have as many djs as rappers..and its messed up..its not about the quality of a dj anymore but the amount of hype he generates..when we took the quality away from hiphop, we took it away from our artwork,the rappers and the dj's the culture as a whole lacks quality now.

Well, well, well..... They have finally taken hip hop to it's final battle.... The DJ versus the MC. Now being that the DJ pretty much endorsed the MC in the beginning, this is probably the final dagger to kill hip hop. If the label and MCs aren't in line with the DJs, you will definitely see a "slow slow deaf" (like greg street said lol) of the hip hop music genre. Some people don't realize this but the DJ is still the most primary and influential individual in hiphop. Now I could give a quick hip hop lesson, but I might go over the youngin's heads so I use the more relevant DJs today. Think about DJ khaled, DJ Scream, and DJ drama, and all the artist such as Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, and the many others whose careers were taken to another level by their DJ's mixtape series. Now think about if the MC starts to beef with the DJ..... I guess the willie lynch laws are still working well.

First of all, I AM A DJ....then I am a producer, songwriter and composer. The DJ is and will always be the gatekeeper of new music, and the lowest paid. Sure, the internet is great, and some go to the local club now and then but almost everyone has a radio. For most people that is where new music is heard first.(and a lot of repeats...LOL). As I read this blog it seems the problem is not with DJs, but "mixtapes". A "mixtape" used to be your favorite DJ playing some of your favorite music with some HOT new music mixed in. Now a mixtape is whatever new music the label didn't want to release or even someone without a deal at all. Most of them are done by producers, with some rapper they are trying to break, or someone with some accapellas over another artist's music and they don't all have a DJ tied to them. NO TURNTABLE MIXING AT ALL!! So don't throw these cats in with all of us who have broke every record you have ever heard. Look, unless you go to the station or club and play the music yourself then the DJ is playing it. And all these artists talkin' out they ass need to be glad there isn't a DJ union or they all would be shut down and new blood brought in!

I can see both point of views on this subject.im an artist in atlanta and recently did an open mic where an established dj (DJ Outkast) hosted the show.after my performance the dj asked me for a copy of my cd and even said he loved my style.A few weeks later i saw him again and asked would he play my joint he told me "U GOTTA PAY 2 PLAY".

I am an underground dj and i currently work in the military. first and foremost you can ask anyone that knows me that I put out mixtapes with plenty of underground artists as well as well known artists in hip hop. I spin at a old school club right now but when i get back to the states i will be getting into spinning at the hip hop clubs because everytime i go to a damn club they play the same shit you here on the radio and mtv. i might as well stay at home and throw a party and turn on the radio. Its not the djs who are killing hip hop it is the fans and the big time djs because they are the ones that have the most impact. all i can do is play an underground rappers song that is hot on my mixtape put it out there to as much people as possible and hope that it goes somewhere the big time djs on the big corporate radio stations can make it happen so we can have real rappers out like 2pac, run dmc, biggie, with real hip hop not this bullshit thats out now.

You know what both of these cats are good friends of mine and they are both right. If a DJ has an album coming out and he's pumping it for 6 months and it has 16 tracks on it. Because mentally he's focused on his own joints, therefore subconsciously nothin else is soaking in. Then on top of all of that, he's got his deal through a cat that has records also, so now take 4 more slots out of that 6 month period. New Artist with those club bangers don't have a chance during this period. So Hell Yeah it's a big conflict of interest.
