Ludacris talked to Complex magazine about everything from his many business ventures, to his new album Theater Of The Mind. Plus, I got a retraction regarding Playaz Circle, and Willie Northpole stopped by Rap City to drop a freestyle. Check it all out below.
You’ve stayed out of the beef for most of your career. The only really notable one you had was with T.I. Have you spoken to him since he started dealing with his legal woes?Ludacris: No, I have not, but of course God bless him and his family.
Since you’re both Atlanta heavyweights, could you see yourself picking up the slack when he has to go away for a year?Ludacris: Well, I never looked at it the way you put it. We’re both great artists from Atlanta and I feel like there are other great artists out of Atlanta. I always look at it on a worldly level and continue to put out good music sporadically or whenever I can. Mostly, I put out music every year. I’ve been doing a couple movies for the past year, so it kind of slowed me down a little bit as far as the music is concerned. But for the most part I’m going to stay consistent and I hope he does the same.
Do you attribute the drop in sales to that “manufacturing�
Ludacris: I attribute that to the consumer getting smart and not going out to buy albums from people that they think only have one or two good songs on their album. It’s good that the consumer is getting smarter. To be honest, looking back, for the most part I feel that I’ve put out solid albums. You can say at least the majority of the albums have good songs on it, as opposed to there being only two or three good songs. My goal is to put out that perfect project where hands-down, the majority of the people all agree that 100 percent, every track, every single song is all the way on point. If that happens, the consumer will continue to buy albums as opposed to particular songs of iTunes.Does anyone in the game still excite you?
Ludacris: I would definitely say Wayne. That’s one person I do have on my album as a surprise. I’ll give you some information. Wayne excites me. Definitely Kanyeâ€"it’s always good to hear Kanye. I would say Game as well. Game is also on the album.[Source]
