Since Jay-Z is coming to Atlanta this Tuesday with MJB for their "Heart Of The City" tour, I thought it would be OK for me to discuss his new landmark deal that he’s on the verge of signing with Live Nation. Have you all heard about this sh*t?
The SOHH News Department posted a story on the Jigga man’s rumored new deal with Live Nation that’s going to provide the self-proclaimed “Best Rapper Alive†with his own label called Roc Nation. The new business venture is reportedly going to pay Hov a stagger 150 million dollars making this one of the biggest deals in music history. Here’s the break down:
1. Live Nation will contribute $5 million a year in overhead for five years.
2. $25 million available to finance Jay-Z's acquisitions, or investments.
3. An upfront payment of $25 million.
4. A general advance of $25 million that includes fees for his current tour.
5. An advance payment of $10 million an album for a minimum of three albums during the deal's 10-year term.
6. $20 million in exchange for certain publishing, licensing and other rights.
While I am not the biggest fan of Jay anymore, the terms of this deal sound completely outrageous. Hip-hop, much like the rest of the music business is in a decline. Albums aren’t selling, ringtone sales are dropping â€" it’s a complete mess right now. To sign anybody in today’s shaky music industry to $150 million dollars, much less to a rapper, just seems like bad business to me.
According to wikepedia Jay’s, Kingdome Come album sold 2,456,00 copies, and, American Gangster, has sold 1,014,905 copies here in the United States alone â€" though I believe that those figures have been inflated a bit. But with those kind of numbers how can Live Nation honestly recoup the $10 million dollars it paid for Jay to go back into the studio? It’s clear that Live Nation does not have their ears to the streets because if they did then they would know that this deal, to me, just doesn’t make much cents[yea that was intentional people]. And let's also not forget the fact that hip-hop is a young man's game, and Jay-Z is pushing 40 years old.
I often time battle with my opinion on Sean Carter. While he’s definitely done his part in bringing hip-hop more into the mainstream I can’t help but feel that he’s also had his hand in destroying it. He’s proven that he’s not much of a CEO â€" I mean just look at his time spent at Def Jam. OK, so he brought us Rihanna, but what other contributions did he make other then create a huge conflict of interest by returning back to the mic that he vowed to walk way from? And from what I hear pushing Def Jam further into debt.
What do y’all think? Is Jigga worth a 150 million dollar contract?
Talk to y'all lata,

nope 1
The rap game is way to messed up 4 a deal like this but if the gonna pay him them he would be dumb not to take it
Jay-Z is the best rapper ever so he MIGHT be worth 150 million.
He's closing in on the billi...
Rocafella forever.
He is worth 150 million because when it's all said and done. He will die a Billionaire, word. As far as how the music industry is in a decline, I agree with you on that. Live Nation is probably the only company that can offer him that much cash, I feel like he should quit, but who am I. I also think 50 Cent and Buck are good money, G-Unit money is long. That Vitamin Water money is even longer, no homo. LOL
I don't think so, I don't see them getting a profit, they maybe able to get some of it back because he does make some solid investments, their is no way he'll continue to make that much money of selling albums he can probably do some numbers and even w/ touring I don't see them recouping...he's a terrible performer it ain't like he can bring B.I.G back from the dead for some magnificent tour
Fuck A 1st...
Anyway, this is a great deal for Jay. For live Nation not so much. They will go under because Jay Z will not sell how he used to point blank although the best artist in the game he just like a old Mike Jordan. Step off and bring some new talent to light. Hip Hop is dead and nothing or no one can bring it back. But as for Jay why not take that deal. It makes cents!

Maybe 10 years ago Jay-Z was worth investing $150 million dollars into, but today no. But hay I'd never stand in the way of another black man getting money so keep breaking them niggas Hov!
Jay's name alone is worth the money. Jay isn't just music, he's an icon. Fact is, in the digital age he still acheived plat twice. What else do you want him to do? Jay is on shows like Letterman and Leno not TRL and 106th and Park. He's more than just an mc, he's a corporate entity. They can't help but recoup the investment. His talent hasn't declined and is not showing any signs of it. You know all of this. Stop with the Def Jam insult. He was a much a part of that as LA Reid who had more to do with it's downfall as a hip hop label than Jay ever could. One setback doesn't stop a flood of momentum.
sounds like a lot of hate to me
if educated business men feel that its a money making venture..then there must be something to it
you monday morning quarterbacks think u know more than these folks then how come your not worth half a billi?
I think that nigga Jigga is already getting paid too much. Looks like most of that money is advances, so that's money he'll have to pay back once he makes it, but like he said "put me anywhere on God's green earth, I'll triple my worth." Fool's already sitting on more cheddar than Kraft, plus he's fucking Beyonce, Rihanna, and probably hit Kimora and Kelis, too. This is the kind of shit that makes a White Nigga get jealous and wanna start hating...but I'm not going to. Comparisons are for the insecure. I can meet my own needs, don't need no one to hold me down; I fuck pussy like it was going out of style, and I'm not looking at Beyonce's wig-wearin chonky ass... I can only respect dude's hustle. He put it out there how much he wanted and waited a few months until someone met his demands. Now, Live Nation might go broke in the meantime, but Jay-Z will keep banking, beliedat.

Hell No!
The numbers are so outrageous, I don't believe this deal is real. Record companies are in the business of making money, on this deal they would make no money. He would have to generate about $300-$400 mil for the company to make a profit off of this deal.
If it is real than congrats to Jay!
ARE YOU READING THIS MAN COMMENTS. IT MAKES SENSE IF THEY ARE PUTTING UP 25 MILLION FOR INVESTMENTS HE PARTICIPATES IN. MAN THIS DUDE HAS ENDORSEMENTS OUT THE WAZU. THIS WAS THE FIRST RAPPER TALKING BOUT THE ROB REPORT. THEY CAN MAKE BACK THE 150 IF THEY INVEST RIGHT. IT'S NOT ALL BOUT RECORD SALE. BLOGGER WAKE UP IT'S MORE THAN MUSIC HE IS A MOGUL, FRANCHISE AND A BRAND NAME PRODUCT. NIGGUHS PROTECT YA INVESTMENTS, 401K AND MUTUAL BOND. THIS DUDE GOT MAJOR INVESTMENTS.
NOW IF SOMEONE TOLD SOLJA BOY HOW TO INVEST HIS MONEY HE WILL SURPASS JAY Z QUICK. FORBES LISTED HIM AS THE TOP RAPPER MONEY MAKER OFF MUSIC ALONE. SOMEBODY GIVE THAT DUDE SOME GOOD INVESTMENT TIPS. YOU ALMOST GOT IT RIGHT GYANT BUT YOU STILL HATING A LIL BIT. BUT DO THE RESEARCH AND YOU WILL SEE I AM RIGHT.
Black people please do research, especially the retarded a$$ blogger. Yes, Jay is worth 150, because what live nation does has nothing to do with record sales, its BRANDING. Yeah, it sounds like a lot to fork over, but the Keep all the profits (just like in Madonna's case), which includes concerts!!!! Idiots, Jay's current tour tickets are selling around $100 in venues that seat 20k, do the math. The keep the profits from the products sold in Jay's name. To me Live Nation won, hov would have done them numbers on his own.
All you have to do is go to google.com is that too hard????
"The deal with Live Nation encompasses future music and music-related businesses, including the albums, touring, merchandising, fan club and Web site, DVDs, music-related television and film projects, and associated sponsorship agreements, the statement said."
Naw he ain' worth all that, but it sounds like, from this article, that about 80 mill is advanced or front money.
So does that mean he has to pay that back at the end of he day?
If so he will be seeing 70 mill right?
the way the deal is structured, live nation will re-coup. in live nations eyes, album sales are a very small part of an artist. they actually are looking to reverse the way a label markets there music. its an interesting deal all around. From merchandising to pretty much anythignhe does..they will have a had in it, just like they are now about to do with madonna. the game is about branding. and say what you want about mr. carter...he's a well branded dude. the money will manifest.
The damn deal is about more than albums... Asshole. The deal is about working with him in tour and merchandising and different entertainment ventures. There working to change the model of how the albums are sold and marketing. That young man shit is stupid people pay to have songs in rotation and then don't sell. Who's selling records? Which one of these young stars sell anything really??? We are stupid as people to even think this deal is about new Jay-Z records... Y'all nigaas think too small!
You People (as in anyone hating on something they doubt) dont get it, he will triple profits on each album, you give him 10 mil pr album and 30 mil they make off him in tours and they are financing 25 upfront , say he makes that back thats 50 plus another 25 equals 75 mil to run around the world and rap, bring out acts, get hot in Europe, get hot in Cali and Canada then u got it locked.
Jay is seeing the big picture they gave him 150 because they know he's gonna make it atleast double. if someone gave u three and a half on the arm, it means they have faith in your grizzle. They are giving him 150 on the arm, so he can be there dangling carrot for more money to come their way which is cool, because the carrot doesnt get eaten, its the ones that try to eat ( aka try to be) that get lured in and possibly eaten themselves.
At the end of the day it's still GO BROOKLYN, BIG FOREVER

OK, Lets be honest. The only reason why ticket prices are so high is because its joint tour with MJB. These tickets would not be that high if she wasnt on the bill. Which brings me back to me question. Is he worth 150.00 million dollars. From a business sense Kids, and females [particularly young females] purchase CD's. But Jay's generation have all grown up. And these kids now a days dont know the Jay that we all know. So I just wonder if he's worth this 150 million dollar bullet.
The deal is more than music... It's about him helping them find real ways to get the industry back on it's feet... Internet is killing sales and he thinks that you need to find ways to capitalize on it as artist and lables and this deal will give him the room to explore it. Niggas think too small and dont see him being more than an artist but really trrying to break thorugh to new money so all these so called "Young Superstars" of rap can eat... (All these new niggas is trash except a small few)
Jay summed it up when he said that he is the "Rolling Stones" of hip hop. He will NEVER have a problem selling. That company is investing in a "business"...MAN!
-
The money is gonna return in more ways than simply selling the music itself.
-
I'm excited to see how it works out, he's definetly revolutionizing the music industry. And honestly, that is what it needs...direction, a new path to follow. So i think it's good..and once it's set out, then the wackness will be automatically weeded out by default.
-
CHRIST BLESS!
PZ
It's not just about his tours! They're paying that money to buy into his ideas and consulting power on shit that can be applied to him and other atrists and tours. Stop thinking small...! thats why we stay last to get payed off the most influential culture in the world, cause we only see on a small scale. That money was to partner up and on a small scale to be a part of his next musical ventures.
That's Real talk Spinel.
You god damn right Mr.Carter is worth $150 Million. What artist starts a label from scratch, turns it into a household name, sets an unprecedented amount of industry trends, propels himself as one of the GREATEST artist of our time, produces a catalogue that EVERY artist would kill for, owns a portion of an NBA team, cashes out over $200 million for a clothing line and to top it all off was assigned a president position at a label he WORKED for(yea he did a shitty job, so what, he still had the opportunity) ...WHAT???!? Find me another Hip Hop artist who has accomplished HALF of that, and maybe you would have a point.
And to think Live Nation will go under is completely absurd to begin with because you have to observe the logistics of the deal: He now has power to start his OWN label, not run an already defunct one (Yes, Def Jam was in shambles before he hit that post). Music publishing, talent and managing consulting....those 2 things right there are enough for them to recoup their money...and we haven't even factored in his touring assets nor what he possibly could make off of future investments and/or acquisitions.
What I think everyone's problem is, ya'll are focusing solely on this man's musical capabilities. Yes, Hov has fallen off...ok...we get that! But tell me you ALL wouldn't download/purchase a new body of work if it was released tomorrow at 8am???? Thought so....
"Play the music on tour instead of relying on radio. Hopefully we’ll get some hits out of there and radio will pick it up, but we won’t make it with that in mind.†Jay explained. This basically means he's breaking the format on how music is played and distributed and creating a new avenue on how we receive our music! This nigga is going to be breaking records ON STAGE! Do you know how much interest that's going to generate for him? And let's not forget all the talent he will be bringing in once he creates his label....
$150 Million....I VOTE YES SIR!!
www.YOUHEARDTHATNEW.COM
Aside from Rihanna what did he bring to Def Jam???? How about Jeezy, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross. You looked at the charts lately to see what those three are involved in?
According to Intellectual Property Policy Directorates, 15-19 year olds do purchase a slim majority of music (10m). But when you combine the numbers for the people who are more likely to buy a Jay-z album (20-34), the number is slightly in his favor (+/-12M). This market generally purchases for love of the artist, nostalgic reasons or as keep sakes. Jay don' t need the babies money let them "Crank dat".
I like the way you came at me so I'll keep it 100 with you as well. According to forbes jay did about 40 Mil not including the measley 2 mil from DJ. Say he made 4 Mil for the album. So thats 36M from outside venters, these "outside ventures" will belong to Live Nation! at the rate he's going he'll be making about 50M a year, and LN will be paid back in no time and they got him for 10 years.
Plus, unlike in the US other country stay loyal to there artist. Jay could play over there until he's 75 (he might). So there will always be money there.
I want to hear somebody dispute any of my claims (facts).
The thing here is a huge crap shoot. Cause how much time do you think he has left? How many more albums does he want to do?? How many more tours will he go on??? They list TV and Movie apperances, how many times have you seen him act??? Now had they signed him in 1998 then hell yeah he would be worth 150, but you gotta think that at some point the man will get tired, never mind the fact that the fans will eventually move on.
However here's the flip side... the YOUNG artists out there, with huge upside will now want to ink a deal like Hova, u2, Madonna... and they will do it for far less cash. So perhaps Jay is a loss leader and they will now sign a bunch of young talent into slavery and make lots of dough... but maintaining these large budgets until that happends could bankrupt the company.
Damn Gyant...Jay "will not lose"...you aint heard? u sound salty
LMAO. And everyone says NYC fell off. Shiiiiiiiiiiittt. Jay-Z is the best real rapper turned businessman the world has ever seen. Lyrically he'll step on just about anybody in the game with a few exeptions. None of them being from the south except Andre 3000. (don't worry I'm not trying to shit on the south). Financially forget it about. We give the world Biggie, We gave you 50 (and don't front everybody was fuckin' with him when he first dropped). And Jay has been consistent since '96. Everyone in the game needs to read Jay's blueprint. New York Fell Off ?

yes he is worth 150 mil. look at this in details, hov can be guaranteed to go platinum with any album he makes. he has done it ten straight albums and is still doing it. not to mention the amount of money the man brings in from his concerts. he sells out tickets and these tickets run for very high prices. on average, 150 dollaqrs per ticket. do the math, 150 dollars, a few thousand people, and about 40 states, thats already running in the tens of millions.
ain't no motherfucker in any field of business worth that much money. but if the "best oldest rapper alive" can get it then get it
Why would anyone invest with Jay to start a record label? He has Rocafella Records and you see that he hasn't did anything with that outside of himself and Kanye.(And Kanye made himself).
Live Nation are going to see that they are going to be losing more money than they are making.
Dont HATE congratulate! JAY Z is that dude, he's the only guy in entertainment beyond Puff, maybe fif that actually lives the life he raps about, and GYANT i know your not talking down on his age, buddy you look like you pushed past 30 years ago yourself, at the end of the day his chick is not only the baddest in the game but her paper is also murking just about all the R&B chicks, so agian Jay must be doing something right to get this hate being spewed!!!
A REAPPER IS ALIVE AND RICH NOT DEAD AND ALL OF HIP HOP IS HATING. LIKE HIM OR NOT, WHY? I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. WE ALL DOWNLOAD = DON'T BUY HIP HOP BUT BLAME DUDE CAUSE IT DIDN'T SELL. EXPLAIN THE LOGIC!!!
ITS SELF HATRED I SWEAR
The next person that ever says NYC fell off is hater. Jay-Z is lyrically a genius when he wants to be and a master businessman. He's been around since '96 and he'll still put out a quality album at damn near 40. In the last 8 years 50 cent and Jay-Z have dominated the charts and Cranes (fuck Forbes, that shit is like the Source Magazine) while other rappers bitch and moan about when he gonna retire and 50 always startin something. NYC fell off ??? Shiiiiit. Salute Jay-Z, don't question him
Who gives a fuck if they make their profit back? He just RAPED them for 150 mil?!?! Any time a nigga can get away with shit like that, they get a standing ovation from my black ass......
I'm not gonna front, I'm from nyc but haven't always dug Jay-Z for one reason or another (Me and My Girlfriend with Beyonce and Pac couldn't stand him=Bitch Ass) But all that aside, the dude since the death of Big & Pac has been the best rapper in the game hands down and he has turned into one hell of a bizness man. If he could broker a 150 mill deal, then thats whats up. Stop hatin & Salute!!!!
Just like niggas to hate, old crab ass niggas. If I was Snoop, Nas or any other relevant hiphop legend, I'd be dialing up Live Nation with the quickness. They just gave Madonna over 200 million for the next 10 years. If LiveNation bets wrong thats on them. But I think that the numbers were crunched properly. So congrats to Jay and haters stay dying slow.............
I THINK 50 IS A BETTA BUSINESS MAN THAN J-Z BUT JAYZ MAKIN MOVES WHO HE GONNA PUT OUT BLEEK AGAIN

CHECK OUT THE NEW KNOCK "GRIMEY"
It's all about branding. Jay Z is no longer an artist he's a brand that any entity would love to jump in bed with. Jay Z has never had a number one song but his albums sell on the strength of his brand. We buy into Jay Z because from Reasonable Doubt to American Gangsta he's been consistent and he thinks big and outside the box. The Live Nation and Jay Z union will be monumental cause they're not signing a rapper they're partnering with a businessman and most of all a trendsetter. Watch that 150 million grow. Jay will not lose on this one. More than likely he'll be cleared from the blame of the Def Jam debacle as well. Jay Z 4 President!!!
NO! JAY-Z IS NOT WORTH THAT MUCH! THEY ARE ONLY LOOKING AT HIS NAME AND HIS RAP ABILITY! JAY-Z ISN'T EVEN TAKING CARE OF ROC-A-FELLA RECORDS BUSINESS SO WHAT MAKES YOU THINK HE CAN GO AND START SOMETHING ELSE! HE REALLY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING BUT WHEN YOU HAVE MONEY YOU CAN BUY ANYTHING AND ANYBODY! NO ONE HAS ME FOOLED!!!!
U niggas actin like this deal is just based on record sales. The music business is FAR more than record sales esp when you're in a position like Jay is. A lot of yall niggas really just sound jealous if you ask me lol. & Gyant should be fired for even THINKING that the Heart Of The City tour dates sell out only because Mary is on the bill, maybe you need to check out Jay's touring track record instead of having blog beef before you make suck outrageous claims.
http://www.fiyahmuzik.blogspot.com
IT'S A GOOD DEAL, 10 YEARS 150 MILLION. LIVE NATION IS SIGNING ARTISTS TO THESE TYPE OF DEALS A LOT RECENTLY, U2 JUST SIGNED ONE AND MADONNA FOR BIG NUMBERS. THEY PROBABLY DON'T EXPECT TO RECOUP ON ALBUM SALES! THEY'LL GET THEIR MONEY BACK OFF PUBLISHING AND TOURS AND MERCHANDISE. AS WELL AS THE ARTISTS JAY SIGNS TO ROC NATION.....IT'S A GOOD DEAL. GYANT YOU'RE ACTIN LIKE HOV IS FAT JOE OR SOMETHIN LOL COME ON NOW!
I just saw the MJB and Jay Z concert last night in Toronto, Canada which was amazing. This concert is sponsored by Live Nation and was sold out. Live Nation did the same deal with Madonna recently I think for 200 mill. Say what you want about Jay Z but he is very wise. Struggling entertainers, haters, debbie downers and slow thinkers should take note to his business credentials. As for Def Jam, no one can really blame one person for a labels issues especially when it faced problems before he got that position. He said it himself that he was 'raping Def Jam until he was the 100 millionth man'. It was a smart business move for him so why not take it? Who wouldn't take it? The fact is the music business isn't that lucrative as it used to be. Jay Z was a hustler first who in turn, hustled the music business because he knew how to rap yet not forget to hustle and profit the best by far to date in the rap category to become the business. Yes it's a business. A very dirty business that loves you one moment then hates you the next so pimp it before it destroys you. Live Nation has the money to dish out so who can really knock Jay Z's hustle for asking and recieving?
And the winner is Hov. this "old man" is taking rap to uncharted territories and the rap community needs to support it. every other genre gets support from their fans but rap fans are so entangled in hate. albums aint sellin, but EVERYBODY loves rap. tell me who's killin rap. a rapper finds it difficult to sell as they get older simply because so called fans can't get past age, despite the quality being there. that's the fans fault (bootlegging). a rock group called the eagles just put out their first album in like 15 years and went like 2x-3x plat. that's loyalty. rap fans, if yall hatin on this deal, only yall know the reason why. rap is going to be a billion dollar possibility with this deal.
If there was any rapper on this planet I would invest 150 million in it would be Jay. The dude generates more than the 15 mil a year they would be giving or new thinks. It's definitely worth it.
Gyant stop it!! Talkin abt his current concert is only sellin b/c he's with MJB. I paid $200 to see both the Fade to Black and Best Of Both Worlds concerts and both sold out in the first half hour. His concerts always sell. He will always have a fan base b/c some may not like him now but at one point in his career they did. They will go to his concerts just to hear cuts off them couple of albums they liked whether it was Reasonable Doubt or American Gangster. So stop fronting, this deal aint abt wht his albums will sell, it will be abt his name and his brands. Rocawear, 40/40, a piece of the Nets, touring, Roc Nation, Fendi, Carol's Daughter, etc. U cant be serious.
Patrick says...

TALKING BOUT INVESTMENTS PIMPING. THIS MAN HAS MAJOR INVESTMENT WITH FORBES 500 COMPANIES. THEY ARE USING HIS BRAND TO GET MONEY WHILE HE INVEST IN OTHER COMPANIES. THIS IS A RAPPER TURN BUISNESS MAN. CAN HATE ON THAT NOW.
JIGGA HAS LIKE 5 PERCENT OWNERSHIP OF THE NEW JERSEY NETS, 40 40 CLUBS, CLOTHES. MAN I SEE WHY ONLY 1 OUT OF FOUR AFRICAN AMERCIANS GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL. WE AS BLACK THINK TOO EMOTIONAL AND NOT LOGICAL. JIGGA, DIDDY AND 50 GOT REAL MONEY OFF REAL INVESTMENTS.
One thing for sure, Gyant aint worth it!!
Live Nation already started making profit!! See how many ppl started talking 'bout them, already? That's what happens when you associate with a legend. Do you guys know how many OLD wrinkled white men have discussed this at the round table before releasing their money to go into this deal??
No record company goes into business to make a loss. If hov came out with a new watch line tomorrow, I bet your favourite rapper will be rapping about it. It would be headlining and make at least 40 milli in it's first year.
You only hating cause you don't know the business and what these dudes got planned. you probably wouldn't understand it if it was written out. There is money to be made, period.
the only way jay-z gets that money is beyonce rhianna kanye and nas are all on the label with him, the hip hop industry isnt worth that money! with all the free downloads available the industry is done! anyways im somehow feeling that new Cherish song.. and that New AZ Undinable album is my new heat, im sorry im done with ATL hip hop until Outkast drops im going back to 96 hip hop artist, peace
To be honest i thought the deal with apple and sean carter music group was a good look, but Jay is a brand and has always been ahead of his time business wise and musically if you look at the whole deal its long term and includes more than just music live nation is not just looking at the past and present they are investing in the future....
I think that Live Nation will probably make a profit on their investment and here's why: for every investment Jay makes with the $25 mil, they will get a percentage. For every concert Jay or anyone under him does, they get a percentage. For every record sold and publishing included, they get a percentage of. No major corporation in their right mind would give Jay $150 mil if their were not provisions for them to reap most of the benefits. On the surface it looks like Jay got the upper hand but remember: because of his name and who he is, it has to look like that for pride's sake for Jay. Think about it.
Good move for Jay overall though.
Yea Rap Is In The State Of Decline, But That Right There Shows Us That The Game Is Borin & People Make The Same Music The Only Person To Come Out With A Real Different Album Was Jay, His Concerts Sell Out In Minutes So Live Nation Made The Right Decision, Jay Will Make That Money Back While Puttin The ROC Back On Top....Hip-Hop Is Startin To Get Excitin Again.....
Jay may be a good business man but he is not a good music man in terms of developing other artists. While this move is a great look for his pockets, I don't think its all that good for music. Jay is not a musician he's a hustler turned rapper. I don't think he has the natural musical inclination thats needed in today's market. Hopefully he'll have a staff of real musicians, music lovers, and musical geniuses to advise him and help cultivate the artists. I just don't beleive that he can deliver too much on his own...especially now that we're at a crossroads and are desperately in need of new innovative talent, vision, marketing, and direction. He truly has his work cut out for him.
I agree with Gentlemen_Thug and a few others in saying that Jay-Z is a sharp businessman. And if he can negotiate a deal for 150 M, Live Nation must feel their investment is sound. Jay-Z might just pull it off. I'm impressed.
On another note: I wonder if Beyonce initiated the request for a marriage license......(smart girl)
I don't usually get iinto these threads because some people are just helpless but here goes anyway...
Listen,
Jay z is not a loser.
1st almost every artist on Def Jam was weak. Who besides LL went plat before Jay Z?
2nd Lets talk about Kanye West, Rick Ross, Rhianna,Young Jeezy. All Platinum plus. Name another record exec who can boast that. Yall let them bum assed losers make yall believe its Jay's fault they suck. They made garbage and dudes aint backin garbage. Who copped Joe Button, who copped Chingy come on man stop it!
3rd The way I see it, Jay Z can always sell because of his name, that alone is why they want him. That's why you buy Nike rather then Pro Ked( shout out Dame Dash haha). Nikes have the NAME its called branding.
4th The concerts are gonna sell out no matter what, so stop acting like a Jay Z solo concert is gonna hurt for sales. all that means money for them crackas and Jay Z...and none for you or me. Imma get mines though, what about you?
5th Since when do we as a people decide that one of our own isn't worth their pay? If they gave him 150 Billion I would say he was worth it. STOP HATIN
I wonder what Dame is thinkin now? Should Jay partner back up/make a mends with Dame to get it really poppin?
Gyant, think with a open mind for a second.....Jay tickets are expensive with or without MJB.. Ppl are actually lucky that they didn't go for 200 plus since both are on the bill.... My next point is Jay is "not a business man he's A BUSINESS MAN, so let him handle his BUSINESS DAMN' once again he will show the haters. regardless of how old he is he still out-sells all these one-hit wonders by hundreds of thousands of records. American Gangster went PLAT with no radio single and the deal says they are not relying on radio for promotion. The best part of this deal is the branding and the investments. Jay has climbed corporate(white) America better than any other Hip Hop Artist even better than DIddy and Diddy is not a drug talking rapper. So Jay will make this deal work becasue the music aspect is to prove he could run a label (by the way LA REid messed DEF JAM up b/c he has the final say so about the artist their, Jay was just his Scapegoat, you should know that) Jay can now put out his artist and take risk without anyone elses input but his own. If the artist don't pan out at least he tried adn he will re-coup off of his tours and his investments. Jay is about to be the new face of Fendi!!!! you don't think he is capable of doing this....if not you on some HOE SHIT!! ........................Lastly about Jay not breaking anyone but Rhianna, lets not forget NEYO and two of the top down south ARTIST (Young Jeezy & Rick Ross) are Jay Stans!!! and the King of th South TIP loves Jay.. Lets not forget LIL Codeine aka Wayne is Jay's unconfirmed Protege!!! Al the top celbs even come out to Jigga concerts so he could re-coup 10mill just off touring
Any disagreement now Gyant ( I don't feel comfortable calling another Man Gyant either)
Gyant man you trippin...let dude get his money and quit hating. Many people much smarter than you feel like Jay is worth that much so if the info you reported is true than he must be. Jay is an international star, you need to check the fx rates and realize that if you paying with pounds then you can give someone 10 million dollars and it looks like a much bigger deal then it actually is. But anyway, Jay is doing his thing so don't ask if he's worth it, he gettin it.
If you ain't goin to the concert you lame.
*2nd Lets talk about Kanye West, Rick Ross, Rhianna,Young Jeezy. All Platinum plus. Name another record exec who can boast that* --- Ummmm how bout LA Reid????? I still personally believe that with Dame Dash on board with him they would have done far better numbers. (yeah I know Dame has fallin off, and is a bozo... but he's a dam good record exec!) a few in here have mentioned his lack of bringin up new talent... and thats where Dame was great for hip hop. He built the Roc into what should've been the strongest label rap ever seen, but Jay being greedy and Dame being a jerk ended that. And please get it straight Jeezy, Ross, Ne-Yo and Rhianna were all signed B4 Jay got there... Jay-Z brought with him Tierra Marie and she went dble wood! He then gave Rhianna a few pointers= backshots and she became his protege so big ups. And Kanye... well Jay is on record saying that Dame was making a mistake lettin this kid rhyme= wrong again Jay! Just cause all these lil rappers on his jock and bite his style / flow / swag like some cats in here dont mean you give him credit for their success... if thats the case Jaz-O is the G.O.A.T
STOP HATIN
A lot of people Hate on Jay-Z, but hands down he's the best at it. The deal is designed for both of them to make money. people hate on him and say he destroyed def jam. bullshyt they had nothing but washed up has-beens. Really can u see ghostface, method man, or LL Cool J goin Platinum? so it strikes a cord with me when people try to talk shyt about Jigga like he doin some shyt no other n***a wouldn't do. Bullshyt!!!!!!!!!
No wonder Beyonce want to marry a nigga all of a sudden, dude already rich but another 150 Mil was the icing on the cake. can't hate on a nigga for that.
CROOKS SAYS...
sounds like a lot of hate to meif educated business men feel that its a money making venture..then there must be something to ityou monday morning quarterbacks think u know more than these folks then how come your not worth half a billi?

Co-sign!!!
Gyant,
Your an extremely dumb hater...
You said this is "OUTRAGOUS" LoL! What a clown.
Most Rappers don't get paid off of cd sales.they get paid through other avenues, mainly SHOWS..
Once again a fellow new yorker(the originators) has cracked the code, now watch everybody follow suite..
There are no black owned major record labels, distributors or major independents for that matter,so what does jay do?
He rapes them for as much money as he can for them using him,and then he goes into competition with them,LOL! (say goodbye to your little gayTLien puppet negro L.A. Reid)
There are no black owned major concert promoters and organizers, what does jay do?
He's about to use and rape them too to a tune of only god knows how much money when its all said and done(and let's not forget his many other ventures).
To top it off,he's about to get married to a very Bad black woman...
Jayz is making the black male image of the so called "hiphop generation" look very good at a time when its NOT looking so good thanks to the many coons running around cooning for a dollar instead of playing for POWER like jay is.
Gyant, just for that alone,if you can't be happy for the man,I don't know what to say...
I guess you should expect Hate from a dude who gets happy and thinks he made it BIG because he's getting an interview in a gossip mag(hiphop weekly)about story that doesn't paint you in a positive light.
I know you or they are not gonna post this comment.
Just wanted you to read it.
Of course he's worth it or the deal wouldnt have been done genius. Were talking real life with real money, not some blog where niggas WISH Jay wasnt shit cause their bitter... Its niggas scattered here and there with their tired ass point of view about it...
Its like, who are you to even question his worth? are you worth $150 mill? what does being 40 have to do with anything? your 1 of the millions of followers who helped put jay in this $150 million dollar position in the 1st place, with your jocking of the buttons ups, white on whites and whatever else jay ever said or did that you tried to mimick...even at 40 niggas still cant stop sucking him off, and now you wanna question his worth? You gotta be salty that 1 of these southern rappers aint getting this kinda deal I bet...thats what it really sounds like to me, you just aint keepin it 100...You got the nerve to feel like his album sales are inflated...why?...hard to understand why a new york rapper is still relivant? my fuckin goodness man...
Kids don't buy no damn CD's..they the main on'es on the computer downloadin..If kids bought CD's soulja boy would sell just as many records as ringtones..Hip Hop is the only Genre of music that has an age limit..There aint a young nigga in the game that can hang with any of the older cats in the game...Even when they were the young cats in the game, they were STILL movin more units than these wack ass niggas today..IF it wasn't for dudes like Jay and a few others, they woulda been stopped talkin bout Hip Hop
stop hating on jay ,he deserves every penny he been a hard working bussiness man since the late 80esss
I think all of you people are beyond delusional.
No, Jay-Z is NOT worth anywhere near $150 mill. I wouldn't even spend $15 to get his album. And the fact that such a played-out and unoriginal guy like Jay-Z is receiving all this money for nothing is a total and complete insult to all the REAL MCs out there like KRS-One, Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, etc.. If Live Nation were to invest that much money into real lyrical cats like these (and not just one, ALL of them combined) then they would see that money tripled or even quadrupled because underground MCs have an epic following that most money-hungry label execs just can't understand because they're just not in touch with the streets like they should be. Too busy trying to capitalize off of young, gullible, impressionable children who will buy anything from the mainstream to realize that there are WAY more smart, substance-oriented people who appreciate REAL lyrics and talent from the underground.
It's a damn shame that real original MCs who have put in years of work are still broke and struggling while KNOWN SWAGGER-JACKERS like Gay-Z are getting paid for ridiculous shit. Plus his last 2 albums were weak sauce anyway so if this upstart label is thinking they'll get a profit from a $150 million advance to a middle-aged, pompous, arrogant, and blasphemous rapper whose time is just about up anyway, then Live Nation is destined to go belly-up bankrupt in a few years just like TVT Records, Arista Records, and Artist-Direct Records.
Jay-Z and Lil' Wayne are indeed the best rappers alive...in a time when rappers is going out of style. But true emceeing and deejaying will never die. Straight up.
And you're right...it ain't just about record sales. But most of you people don't even buy his records anyway. And all you people talking about his endorsements don't even know what the hell you're talking about. If you did then you'd realize that he doesn't have that many and they're not as successful as people make them out to be. The ones he did become successful with were just pure luck if anything. Plus I've been hearing stories about corruption with the 40/40 Club. People just think to be black and have all these things makes you a success but compared to all the OTHER big businesses out there, he's only dealing small-time and no one really buys those things anyways aside from Rocawear, but even that's starting to get old. Which would be ANOTHER reason why Jay-Z's 15 minutes of fame are coming to an end.
Live Nation just paid $15 mill for a front row seat to "The Fall of the Dynasty Roc La Familia", but little do they realize that they've become part of the act just as well.
Jig, you better apologize to Dame and Biggs while you still have the chance. Other than that, just retire FOR REAL THIS TIME and make room for the REAL MCs of New York and Los Angeles to take over the rap game like it's supposed to be!
Real Mc's like who ????? Yall niggas act like Jigga is blackballing every other rapper, stoppin them from gettin their shine..If these niggas were so hot, they woulda been moved into Jay's spot right now..These wack ass rap niggas is the reason Jay even came back in the first place..The game was wide open, and nobody did shit with it..Who cares if u think he's worth 150 million or not..The fact is he's gettin it!
"Wack ass rap niggaz"...if you think people like Dilated People, KRS-One, and Talib Kweli are WACK then I really think you are misguided. I just saw them in concert and they definitely know how to rock a damn crowd 4sho! Just because you don't feel them doesn't mean millions of others don't either. It's all a matter of who the record labels are more willing to pay attention to in this 'wide open" game. And these artists don't bring the same redundant message that Jay-Z does.
And as far as Jay-Z's "Spot"? I hope he got a new dog or something. because Jay-Z is nowhere NEAR the top of the game anymore. Not with people like Nas, KRS, Pharoahe, and Mos Def around. Only reason they haven't gotten as much promotion as Jay-Z is because they aren't as willing to sellout and ride the white man's mutsack as Jay-Z is. Of course a total ass-kisser who is exploiting and degrading his own race is gonna get more promotion and recognition than the people who are willing to keep it real and stand up to the man.
Next time, do your homework EffYou. And RESPECT REAL HIP-HOP
Sounds like Mr. Gyant is quite the hater. Is Jay-Z worth 150 mill? are you kidding me. He is worth more than that! Everybody is always complaining about Bill Gates is awful and he's a devil. Yet Microsoft is the top computer company out and Windows is the best. Jay-Z is the reason why everybody is buying rap cd's and to update music in Target, Walmart and KMart. Instead of those oldies disks...hmm did we forget Jay - Z started that first!!! And how about the introductions to folks stepping their car game up and buying first class cars like Benzs and boxster porsches. I remember when rappers was making songs about hoopties and fans was looking like bums and braggin about having one. And lets not forget Jay, cleaning up rap and having brothers step up and take the jerseys off and start wearing button ups and looking fly again. 150 mill..please!! They got him at a discount!! All the money Live Nation is going to make off of US!!! It's about time I'm seeing somebody BLACK get the credit and MONEY for OUR ideas!!! remember when Timberland used ideas and made all that money off those different colored Tims.. I don't remember hearing about any brothers cashing any checks from that idea. And that clearly came from us in the streets. But here's the better question Mr. Gyant. Are you worth the paycheck you're getting? Or are you just hating .....again? ~ smile
