I got to tell you that I have never watched an episode of “The Boondocksâ€. Unfortunately this job doesn’t leave much time to just lay back and watch the boob tube. But I had been hearing SOHH much about this new episode that was banned in North America over some BET jabs that the network deemed so offensive that the Cartoon Network decided to against airing it. However, thankfully we live in a time where the powers that be only have control of their networks, and not the internet.
Thanks to World Star Hip-Hop for snatching this video for us. It is 19 minutes and 20 seconds of course minus the commercials. Tavis Smiley played himself and dissed BET! Caution: Discretion is advised. Coarse language! Wear headphones at work!
In the episode, Huey's hunger strike against BET is supported by Reverend Rollo Goodlove, voiced by guest star Cee-Lo. The Gnarls Barkley crooner also narrates the episode, in which BET head Deborah Leevil, a Dr. Evil type ruler, runs the network with nothing but ill will in mind. She kills an employee at the board table for a bad opinion. She even bows and kneels to a Viacom-like character like Sumner Redstone, Viacom's big boss. Viacom owns BET.
Weggie Rudlin, a man who strongly resembles BET's President of Entertainment, Reginald Hudlin, stands before her meekly and says: "My Harvard education tells us that our goal is to take all the s***ty reality shows that MTV did five years ago and make them black… Next month we're going to have our first award show honoring video hoes, or as I like to call it, a hoe-wards show."
Boondocks is a cartoon about an angry point of view of two black kid brothers on everything. They live with their grandpa who they constantly argue with. Above are relevant screenshots of the controversial episode which has CNN, the Drudge Report, with BET and even MTV on blast. It was real fun and I was ashamed that CN banned it. The only thing I could see about the ban was when Huey, one of the kids went on CNN to protest BET. CN and CNN are both owned by Time Warner. That may pose a conflict of interest. There was even a Walmart employee, homeless people and illegal immigrants who said they were supporting BET employees treated like crap with no money by giving them the little they earn. Some BET employees were shown as homeless people living under bridges!
Huey's demand was that BET stop demeaning women on their music videos and pay their employees well, so the kid went on a hunger strike.
In the end, they all become friends and their pictures were all featured on Matt Drudge's "Drudge Report." It is too early to tell if BET will try to kill free speech by attempting any legal action on World Star Hip-Hop. LET'S HOPE NOT!
For me personally this animation is an accurate portrayal of how certain stations, I cant just single out BET, further add to the modern day minstrel show. Again, I dont get a chance to watch that much television so for me its not that much of a problem. But to my young black brothers and sisters, I become extremely worried and troubled by the constant negative images that are displayed by big networks.

Now that i got tht out the way...1) I BEEN READIN THIS BLOG FOR A WHILE and i almost die laughin everyday when people come at gyant...but after watchin mtv's the parker report i see why....i aint tellin u to be a follower and do what everybody else is doin gyant but the lane u r in and created is a dead end....u looked silly on the parker report and the topic was dumb, u should have spoke up bout that instead of some of this cornball shit u be sayin...2) I understand u too busy for the "boob tube" but how havent u seen an episode of the boondocks...that should be a pre-requsit for being a blogger...the show goes over damn near everything wrong w/ hip hop and the black culture as a whole...KEEP IT PMPIN..

thanks so much for posting this episode i have been looking allover for it. BET SUCKS!!! bob johnson is a billionaire because he sold out all black people with his garbage station full of stereotypes. debra lee and reginald hudlin only care about making money and hudlin is lucky he did that shady deal to make any money off the boondocks but i hope when they make the boondocks movie he doesnt make a dime off of it. mcgruder and everyone else involved with the boondocks even adultswim are all doing the world a favor exposing BET for the rats they are.
I'll try to keep this short, but intelligent. A few months ago, I corresponded with the "Ya Heard" blogger about how raw people come at you guys. I thought that folks were wrong for criticizing you guys in the violent ways that they do. I thought that the blogger would step his/her game up, but I saw no improvement. Really, the reason that Hip Hop is "dead" is because of a convergence (meeting) of factors, including uninformed people like you informing the masses. I'm smart enough to see through SOHH's employees lack of knowledge, but what about the masses? Many of them fall for the hating and other BET-like ignorance that you guys perpetuate (keep going). Blanket indictments of certain types of hip hop (see SOHH NYC), and other bullshit runs rampant on your site, now we get this shit! It is inexcusable that you haven't at the very least seen previews of Boondocks episodes because of your JOB. You owe it to your readers to be more informed before opening your "mouth" on the Internet. The Boondocks is the epitome (best example) of what "Hip Hop's" visual culture is. I won't go into the complexities of the show for you. Watch it for yourself. Season One is on DVD. MAKE THE TIME to get more informed about ALL of Hip Hop...or give up your spot to someone who deserves it more. It is ALL of our responsibilities to keep Hip Hop "alive". We can't do it by being ignorant, and spreading that ignorance through what we say and speak on.

The idea that many of you small minded readers feel that a bloggers integrity is questionable because they haven’t seen a particular show is beyond absurd [silly]. I personally don’t care for cartoons period. SOHH whether its hip-hop based or not doesn’t matter in my eyes. The notion that my hip-hop knowledge, or opinion is some how damaged or non credible because I haven’t seen a show that’s only been on the air for THREE YEARS while the hip-hop culture has been around for more then THIRTY YEARS is ridiculous.
It is my hope that you all can come to respective blogs and take the commentary for what its worth and just keep it moving. All I see day in and day out are you kids commenting on ideas that you truly know nothing about. It’s too easy for you all to just sit back and waste the better part of your days tearing apart posts. And for everyone who complains that SOHH.com, or particularly the bloggers are destroying hip-hop, and you hate coming here – then why do you log on everyday to voice that opinion? There are tons of other hip-hop sites around to where you can visit. If McDonald's doesn't make a cheeseburger the way you want it made. Do you keep going into the same McDonalds every single day and complain to the manager? No. You just take your ass over to Burger King.
But you choose to log on to SOHH Atlanta, SOHH Ya Heard, SOHH NYC, etc because you know that there’s a view point on our blogs that aren’t “groupie basedâ€. We are your guilty pleasure. Boondocks is that crack, nigga! I been watching that show since the giddy-up and them little niggaz speak the truth! Aaron McGruder's satire flows over most muhfuckas' heads and might have you crackin up, but the Herbz understands the meaning behind that shit. Thanks for posting that. Gyant if this is the first episode you've seen then you really need to go check out the old ones. Yeah its a cartoon but it has a lot more substance than most shows on tv aimed at black people or anyone else for that matter. Plus its funny as hell.
I wish everyone would stop thinking that I had a display of emotions from my previous comment. I've learned long ago to just delete a comment rather then respond, but I have a problem with many of SOHH Atlanta's selective reading. I never said that I didnt know what the Boondocks. I used to read the comic strip back in the day. WHAT I SAID WAS THAT I DONT WATCH THE SHOW!
It's no emotion from my side. I just wish people would get with the program or just go elsewhere.

I know some people are getting on him for not knowing about The boondocks but I think it's good he is talking about it and possibly exposing other people who have not heard of or seen an episode of The Boondocks. I love the Boondocks this cartoon is so on point.

@ Gyant. Just so you know there is another banned episode it's called "The Uncle Ruckus Reality show". It's about the character Uncle Ruckus ( a self-hating black man) getting a show on B.E.T. I heard this episode just like the banned "Hunger Strike" episode will be shown in Canada in the next couple days.
It's clear that you don't shit about The Boondocks. First of all, Huey and Riley don't have angry points of views on everything. Huey is a socially conscious, revolutionary, political activists. And Riley's a nigga, a wanna be gangster who idolizes rappers(he is funny though). Secondly, you don't know shit about social topics(and hip hop for that matter but that's not the point today) so stick to what you do. BET is the only thing that matters when it comes to ignorant shit on TV. Why?

Boondocks is a good show and I watch it occasionally- don't have the DVD & not planning to buy it. BET on the other hand does not impress me based on prior business conversations I've had with several people there at management level.Talk about passive,clueless and fearful- no one knew how to make an executive decision. As much as I hate to admit it, they were all women. A very strange company. No surprise Boondocks called them out.

For all people condeming BET, consider this: How is 1 station supposed to be compared to over 100s (maybe 1000s) of white stations that air 10x more degrading shyt...BET airing Uncut or video hoes in a video is not the problem, just as MTV airing Jackass isnt the problem for white folks....The problem is that white folk can then change to every other channel to get a better representation of their race, whereas BET is supposed to cover good black, strong black, weak black, hip hop black, gospel black, ignorant black, etc., etc. THAT is not their fault that there is no addtnl outlet. Their a f'in tv station, not a nanny, there job is to entertain.
