EXCLUSIVE: Thunder, Thunder, Thunderkatz.... HOOOOOOOOOOO!! [Part One]

The Thunderkatz [not to be confused with the widely popular 80’s animated television show] are some of the new faces on Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc records

I got a chance to drop by a recording session at Atlanta’s legendary Patchwerk Recording Studios recently, and I chopped it up with the band about their sound, their take on how they’re going to impact the music game. And of course why in the hell they choose to name themselves after such an iconic TV show.

The best way to describe this alternative hip-hop[esque] group would be “hybrid”. They are a little bit of nostalgia mixed in with a whole lot of innovation—and just a dash of punk. They’ve created a pioneering sound that’s multi-dimensional. Yet their diversity in their music is placing them in a unique position to not be labeled as any one type of sound.

The band mates o8o [Dell], Ginger, Ben jive, Jus Jon, XO, and Juno collectively make up this unconventional group. Picture the Black Eyed Peas, but with a more authentic sound – and you got these kats.

They have an undeniable cross over appeal, but can still deliver some infused hip-hop for the hip-hop heads. And guess what, they are from the ATL and they’re trying to do it big.

  • Gyant i do believe that a lot of the kids on here go way to far with their comments. But bloggers set the tone. Whatever level of "responsibility" you think you apply to your criticisms of others is not enough. In fact, its quite questionable. I have often thought to myself "wow. that Gyant guy sure is an arrogant, angry so and so." and I am sure you "think" thats your job. To stir things up. But in the end you just set a poor example for the youth today and more to the point - the visitors to this site. Here is the sage advice for the day: act even MORE responsibly.     As little as 20 years ago every adult understood that he was a role model to every child within earshot. When the tough kids were going to get in trouble they told the rest of us to 'get lost', when a kid walked by the neighborhood wino that old man hid his bottle behind his back, when a child was was in the room, his uncle decided it was better not to fire up a joint and when we were walking past a woman and her daughter we refrained from cursing - even if we would never see those people again.

    Seems like yesterday. But listening to a lot of 20-something folks, its sounds like a 100 years ago.

    Brother you are a role model - to young and old. I know you have to keep it interesting, but just remember that people choose their mentors, not the other way around. Will kids be choosing you as their role model because they look up to your intelligence or your brutal language? (BTW, the artists are as much real human beings as you are - what are they owed?)

    On the subject of respondents to your blog -- Surely, you're bigger and brighter than the folks that can't manage to form complete sentences, but want to critique YOU. Right? RIGHT? lol I look at half the comments and understand why our schools are failing - they are here during the day dropping posts in broken English and for that their parents are MOST definately to blame. (smh)
