Look, we all know Grady Hospital is serious trouble. They’re over spent, and if the community doesn’t step up to do something quick they might be forced to shut their doors. One of the things that pisses me off about us as a people â€" yes I’m talking about black people â€" is our failure to step in when it’s needed and help our community. For the record, I’m not saying ALL my people. But a lot of us just don’t seem to give two sh*ts if it doesn’t directly involve our own situation. And since a lot of Atlanta’s millionaires are choosing to do nothing, it seems that a “transplant†has stepped in to offer some assistance… and his name is Ne-Yo.
Superstar and songwriting genius, Ne-Yo, has been garnering good press over his recent decision to help out Grady Hospital. The prince of Def-Jam is throwing a benefit concert to assist in relief efforts. Check out why he decided to get involved:
It amazes me how I watch entertainers throw around cash like it’s going out of style. They blow Benjamins on lavish homes and high end automobiles. They make it rain money at a club just to show everyone how much they’re flossing. Yet they can’t seem to step â€" or better yet â€" put their money where their mouth is in order to keep the community thriving.
If Grady hospital keeps the community that ultimately supports YOUR “art†by running out and purchasing YOUR CD’s, or YOUR concert tickets, or whatever endorsement YOU'RE pushing. You would think that the movers and shakers of this great city wouldn’t hesitate to do all they can, or better yet write the damn check.
For the people who are choosing to turn a blind eye, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Ne-Yo is making all y'all all look real stupid right about now.
When I find out more about the concert information I will let you know. ABC Publicity, Get At Me!
Talk to y’all lata,

This is why I fux with Emory...
...I rolled into Grady once to get my hand stitched up after beating an Asian nigga's ass. They stitched that shit up with a loose thread that came off my sweater, and when I was done, they passed a collection plate AND a tip jar for me to give em something.
That's just disgraceful, my niggaz...

Your Royal Whiteness
Gyant, you can't look for entertainers to be community leaders, that is what your publicly elected official is for. The state reps. should be stepping up, the congressman should be.
If anything we need to hold our publicly elected officials accountable and make them care about situations like this.
Besides some entertainers do give back, I know T.I does alot in his community. They can't do everything, they can't save the world.
All these damn Grady's Babies?!! NEYO is making yall look stupid.
I'm shocked at this. African Americans in all their elite glory flock to Atlanta for the good life. Mega churches galore and they aren't helping. This amazes me. Keep doing what you're doing Neyo
@Big Smoov
No, but they can save a hospital!
Black people like to put on a show. We like to show others how much have. We make it rain in Magic City. We buy 5-6 cars for our "crib". We love our $40 Ts and $600 jeans. We have to have our $150 shoes and $35 matching fitted hats.
Ask the people to help the hospital who serves it's community... "Somebody else should do it."
We thinking we are winning, but in reality. We are losing. Black Folks have to get our minds right.
Creflo and his church has WAYYYYYYYYYY more money than any of these rappers. Same with Bishop Eddie. There are some other pastors and churches rolling in the dough too. They should be stepping up to the plate. Creflo has more luxury items than any of these rappers, but he doesn't get criticized. I like the message SOHH Midget, but stop looking for these rappers to save the world. They got lives too. You can't be in tune to every issue if you are out working and there is nothing wrong with playing and spending money you earned. Grady's problem is bad management. I would be wary of giving my hard earned money to them as long as the same leadership is in place. I commend Ne-Yo for what he is doing and it would be good for these rappers to get involved, but it ain't as simple as you make it seem. Morehouse needs to step up and donate some funds out of their surplus since the closing of Grady would cripple their School of Medicine. There are plenty of causes that rappers are apart of many charitable causes. Politicians need to develop a relationship with these rappers and work with them on things like this. Like Big Smoov said this is the job of politicians and elected officials. So they need to get off their keysters instead of extorting these business owners for kickbacks. Good issue SOHH Midget, but tell me why are you a hip hip journalist if you hate rappers?
@GYANT
OK, I got at least 100mil for a hospital operation of 500mil in operating cost to BLOW AGAIN DUE TO MISMANAGEMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE..(IT) needs to be taken over an reorganized ..Grady has one of the top BURN UNITS in the NATION aswell as TRAUMA UNITS ...with its history BAD and Good ...you dont keep giving the child candy when they're hungry ..it will need a parent to feed it properly...

I really wish people would STOP tryna make these entertainers into more than what they are! Just because they money, doesn't mean they are good shepards or fundraising fanatics!
Just like Killer Mike said, "where all these black bourgesoise (sp?) niggas at?" Where all the prominent doctors and lawyers? Like somebody said above, where are all these pastors with these mega churches, driving around in bentley's and what not!
Why not target them as not giving a fuck? WHY?? Because its easier to point the finger at a rapper than to hold those supposed "moral, upstanding" citizens accountable.
Entertainers ARE NOT responsible for the well being of the community. Thats what the fuck our tax dollars are for and we need to hold our elected officals on ALL LEVELS of government accountable for our community, not some nigga on a rap song who two years ago was in the trap bussin his gun.
GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!
@Big Smoov
that's the point, for so long we've whined and bytched and complained about how government officials don't give a damn about us, how we have to look out for one another. We already know the gov't is not tryin 2 do shyt, and city officials aren't much better. So many artists have the financial clout to make some changes, and they choose not to. It's just messed up to me.

Just because I am hard on hip-hop doesnt mean that I hate it. Ive learned to expect more.

Damn brother, didn't Jena teach you anything. 99% of these ENTERTANIERS are just that and nothing more, regardless of what they say in their raps. They aren't motivated to save hospitals or to take a stand against racism, they are motivated to make money and entertain America.
When you have a generation who idolizes entertainers and thinks that entertainment is the only way to be successful in life this is what you get.
Oh yeah the transplant dont know anybetter..because he like others that visit then claim atlanta just follow and dont lead...get the facts know the history at a minimum (spellcheck) the immediate care wont suffer if the NEW management Hospital General Manager an staff is replaced effectively.

All this maybe true but when you think about it after they fix this place and upgrade everything. The price for anything they do is going to go up. People want things better for our communities but once we help them get up. They raise the prices on us. For instance our clothing that is marketed to the hip hop community is high as hell. But you could turn around and by Tommy (I know he's lame) and Polo for cheaper prices. You give a community more money to help that community thrive and look better but as soon as this happen the price of living in that community will rise.
I've read some good points.
We need to hold the churches and pastors who take money from the community on a weekly basis accountable, we need to hold our government officials accountable, we need to hold the management of Grady Hospital accountable.
Yes, entertainers are in postion were they have the attention from mainstream America, but they are entertainers and it's not what they signed up for. When Luda and TI started rapping they didn't do it to help the community, they did it as a way to make some money.
Really it is an indictment on the "baby boomer" generation, because there are no real leaders who will stand for issues like this. If Crefflo Dollar and Eddie Long would teach the members of their churches to build wealth instead of being "cheerful givers" maybe our communities would be in better shape.
My point is this, there are plenty of place to blame and starting with the entertainers isn't the right way to fix the problem.
big smoov is speakin some truths... why do rappers have to always be pointed out? they arent even looked as pillars of the community... its more than fuckin rappers who can raise funds for this... if you lookin for rappers to save our communities you are living a dream!
@ Big Smoov
Dats real talk. These "pastors" got millions, but what are they doing for real. Other ethnicities in America HELP THEY OWN, except black people for the most part. We always waiting. We have NO BLACK LEADERS. We have a "black" dude on the supreme court, a "black" woman in the presidents cabinet, but they are just tokens. House niggas. LOL, while we out in the fields gettin it in. They might understand that there is no saving the world. The world will never be a great place for every single person on the planet. Sounds nice, but it cant happen. So fuck it, do what you do, whether its flippin o's, or getting a Ph.d, or BOTH.

Why would you expect more? How many rappers showed up in Jena? Not even your favorite rappers showed. By count only 4 showed. Bun B and Mos Def. Killa Kill from Adamsville and David Banner. Where was ATCQ? Where was Dead Prez? Little Brother? All these punk a$$ rappers and groups that ya'll hype as real hip-hop....where were they? Ya'll criticize the so called gangsta rappers, but what about these hypocritical clowns?
i understand where your coming from expecting them to do more, and some should. You bring up a very good point in the making it rain in the club, which is retarded and pointless. I still feel though, that we as a community bare just as much blame and just as much criticisms. I know not everyone is balling out, or "making it rain" lol, but we have to help our communities and do our part before we start questioning who isn't doing theirs. Those who have large assets definitely need to contribute but so do those with small assets and everyone in between. Good post though Gyant, we need to be aware of these social issues.

What's wrong with makin it rain in the club? Don't you think Alize and Hot Mocha got a family to feed?? They are patronizing a business of THEIR choice!!
Funny how we wanna regulate how entertainers spend THEIR money, but not even mention how the government is spending OUR money (tax dollars)!!
No like the other blogs are wack too sohh is falling off as a whole. a yall how hate and more hate how many units did your favortie rapper young jock sale, or are u waiting for saigon, lol pappose lol, or hurricane j. wait wait u waiting for soljia boy to come out, man there are alot of booty ass rapper coming out of the east and south. lol
Peace, The Mecca has returned to the blog. It's a damn shame we can spend millions of dollars at Magic City, Strokers and Body Tap, but where you gonna go when one of those hoes give you the clap? If you don't have insurance, forget about Piedmont or Emory....start saving your one's and get ready for the loooong wait at Grady
@ n-sight

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO
The truth is some of yall comments are ignorant as hell. You dudes keep bringing up churches and pastors and sh!@ like this is SOcHurcH.COM....Fools, this is SOHH.com. Its about what's happening in the HIP HOP community of ATL. Its not about mismanagement of money cause I have a friend who is a young doctor over there and it's about them being a hospital for all people, with or without money or insurance. AND...It is the responsibility of entertainers to support the communities that support them just as much as the elected officials. Half of you dummies probably don't even know who your elected officials are or how many you have but you probably know the lyrics to a least five RAP songs all the way through including the bass line and the hook. Why you expect others to reach out to their officials and yo azz don't even vote. Let's get the truth on and poppin, REAL TALK!!! OBAMA for President!!! BARAK THE NATION!!!! ps. and that MATT HERBZ is clearly a dumb b#@ch for his earlier comment.
@ Kush City
How you even come out yo mouf with some dumb sh!@ like THERE ARE NO BLACK LEADERS? Leadership starts with self. So many people are looking for leadership outside of themselves when they need to be looking inward. Do some damn introspection. BE the leader that you are so desperately looking for. Have your own dreams and stop squandering Martin's. If you champion a cause or have a goal to achieve against all odds you are a LEADER. If you are Black too then you are a BLACK LEADER. Its not a hard concept to grasp dude. HELL, the problem is you probably aren't even black and I probably can forget the idea that you might have goals or be the champion of any cause right? You're right. You are not a BLACK LEADER. Will the real Kuch City please stand up!? Cause I'm sure that he is a true BLACK LEADER.
first, i eould like to comment on how sohh gyant lets matt herbz comments the word nigga on this blogsite. where i come from (montgomery, al, birthplace of civil rights) his a** would have gotten a beatdown. on top of that he needs a noose around his neck. secondly, gyant u allow it. where are your manners. yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. but not at the expense of African- americans. matt herbz needs to sit his jim crow a** down and go teach some anglo-saxon history to some white kids over there in buckhead. MATT HERBZ is a disgrace on this website!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
