Katt Williams Wears Noose To BET Awards...Is It Freedom Of Expression, Or Is It Social Irresponsiblity?

Sigh! I just hate it when black people perpetuate the stereotype of ignorance. Yesterday I received various phone calls from people who were inquiring about Katt Williams ridiculous and perhaps socially irresponsible noose he had hanging around his neck. I attended this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards and even chatted it up with the pint sized comedian â€" but I didn’t notice his daring outfit. I don’t know how I missed something so offensive but I did and now I am taking the time to address it.
Many people are in an uproar over Kat’s bold accessory. Again, some see it as social irresponsibly while others find it fundamentally disrespectful. But I’d like to pose the question to you guys. Since Atlanta is below the Mason Dixon where racism is apparent, was Kat wrong for choosing to adorn himself on the red carpet with a noose hanging around his neck?
Many within the black community aren’t happy and now I am wondering if BET will even air him on the red carpet in any capacity.

Black people, we are so concerned with the weakest things, at least he made a statement - he could've showed up in an iced-out whatever but at least his "noose" reminds us (Black people) what's happening NOW. Shouldn't we be worried about HIV among black women? Lack of black male role models? We big up Snoop, we big up 50, for what? They do very little w/their millions but seem to represent us? In what capicity?
The Washington Post now writes that nooses are like Christmas Trees, OK on private property, taboo on public.
For this same reason, I showed up at the BET awards with my dick hanging out. I was promoting condom use amongst America's nigga population. I even showed you how to use one when Kimora Simmons walked by... (she promptly showed all you females how to remove a condom before you suck a nigga's dick.) Ok- let's get real people- lynching is not a joke and anything and everything that refers to it in that manner is down right ignorant. Perhaps Katt should have at least let it be clearly known what his intention was, so he was not misunderstood. But here’s a few graphic facts about lynching. They would cut off fingers to hand out as souvenirs, they once beat an married couple , hung them and used corkscrew to drill into their flesh while alive, they lynched a pregnant black woman, stung her up beat her, then cut her belly open, to let the fetus drop out, then a spectator stomp on it’s head killing it. I find Mr. Williams' behavior no different than the awareness-raising of Boondocks or Dave Chapelle. And as they are similar, all three are inevitably both hated and loved, as is many things in our idealistic society. Furthermore, statements are made by MANY African Americans in the media, everyday, that project over exaggerated sexual connotations, "trapping" and various levels of violence, and surprisingly they are rarely attacked for it, as Mr. Williams has been, despite the fact they are the very ones who are destroying the propriety our race once upheld.

Katt Williams displayed his ignorance and total insensitivity to the racial tensions that grip this country. I was appauled that he would use the Hip Hop awards to make a mockery of his ancestors and his relatives who perished at the end of nooses in the South during the pre- and post-civil rights eras. He is a poster child for every klansman and "good ole boy" in this country. He is just plain dosen't get it.

Socially irresponsible? I don't know. I don't think he's making a stance of "we use the 'nigga' and try to strip the power from the word and embrace it as our own". Honestly...the idea of all of us walking around wearing a 'noose necklace' is absurd and quite ridiculous! I think that Kat was making a statement and a point that what's happening in many many corners of the US is bullshit and at some point, our political leaders are going to have to recognize that this isn't a fight for the NAACP, because their American "good ole boys" are the ones who continue to foster this reality for our youth.
Maybe Kat's performance was a bit shocking and he pushed the envelope...but will it take another Jena 6 to be incarcerated for the media to give some REAL and worthwhile attention to the rampant racism embedded in our society today?

My opinion is that Kat Williams expressed his opinion in his forum. To the blogger that said n8ggers look good in nooses---you are the epitome of a n8gger--fall back!!!! All he did was made the rest of America aware of what is still apparent to all black people who live and eat and read the news on a regular basis; racism is alive and still growing--I personally don't believe that it was irresponsible or offensive--it was an open political statement as only a comedian could express it. For all of the people who did think it was offensive, how offended were you with the situation in Jena, and you and how active have you been in your support of the Jena Six and all others going on in our "free country" today? I took his wearing a noose in a totally different way. Since the noose was white, I took it as him saying let's talk about hanging white people and see if they get offended. It's getting pretty ridiculous that people could put up a noose and not know the history behind it. Kat Williams knew what he was doing, knew what message he was trying to send, and knew who's buttons he was pushing. It wasn't offensive or ignorant it was a statement.

NO NOOSE IS A GOOD NOOSE! (just like no "N" word is a good "N" word, regardless of who says it). His actions, IN NO WAY, are justifiable. If the actions that led to the Jena Six case are seen as offensive, there should be no exceptions made on Katt's behalf.
In order to make a statement you have to know how to VERBALLY express yourself, not just wear a T-Shirt (or noose in this case). Even if you decide to wear a T-Shirt that says (drop knowledge not bombs/ vote or die/ peace etc.), at least be able to elaborate on what the underlining message is. Katt obviously couldn't clearly express himself (from CNN) so that definitely doesn't justifiy his actions (even though they aren't justifiable).

And just because he is a comedian, does not mean that he cannot be serious about real issues, if you listen to his comedy, that is all he talks about, racial issues, children, and loving yourself. Because I am so in tuned with what is going on, the noose did not bother me. What bother's me about black communities, are the liquor stores, the check cashing places, carry outs that serve unhealthy food. If anything, we do not need the white man to hang around our necks to kill us all, we are slowing killing ourselves. We are constanty keeping the noose of debt around our necks, everytime we visit a check cashing place, get a real checking and savings account, learn how to balance a check book, and earn some interest on the money that you save instead of spending it at the liquor store, and on lottery tickets.
