"Who's Your Caddy" Movie Review...Brace Yourself, It Aint Pretty! And, Big Boi Offer's 50K For Burgulary Information!!

**This is a repeat post. Since the film comes out today, I figured I would repost my review for those who may have missed it from earlier this week.**

The reach of this blog never ceases to amaze me. I almost always forget the impact SOHH.com has on music, hip-hop culture, and over all entertainment. But last night I was abruptly, and without warning reminded of our reach when Big Boi from Outkast expressed his opinion on my post questioning his new movie.

To call it an uneasy moment would be a huge understatement. Hell, for a minute I thought he was going to hit me. His swagger most definitely changed when he realized who I was.

Now, I’ve met Antwan on numerous occasions and have had nothing but the most positive encounters with him. But I’ve also never said anything out of the way about him either. It always amazes me how millionaires allow themselves to get so worked up over something someone, who makes considerably less money then them, say about them. It was the most uncomfortable moment of my career.

I got the opportunity to get an exclusive advance preview of the film last night thanks to Chris Chamber, and Junior Suriel of The Chamber Group. Was I wrong about my initial impression? I hate to say it folks, but I wasn’t.

Last week I talked about Atlanta rapper Antwan Pattton, AKA Big Boi’s, new movie “Who’s Your Caddy”. From the trailer - this movie seemed to glorify and magnify all the stereotypes that make many people feel uneasy, and downright offended about black culture.

First off let me say that I have nothing but the utmost respect for Big Boi and the entire Dungeon Family. Musically Antwan has given the world some unforgettable and pioneering records that will go down in history as classics. However in the movie realm, he continues to disappoint me as an actor.

“Who’s Your Caddy” for the most part plays up to its trailer. The story centers on C-Note, a rap mogul from Atlanta who tries to join a conservative country club in the Carolinas. C-Note runs into fierce opposition from the board President- but it's nothing that he and his entourage can't handle as they challenge the board President to a golf tournament. As exciting as the plot sounds, it doesn’t hold weight at all despite the talented ensemble cast.

“Caddy” lives up to the usual black exploitation film(s) that paints other wise intelligent, articulate, African American’s into loud, obnoxious, uncultured menace’s to society. The plot was flat, the acting was typical, and at the end of the day, this film doesn’t stand a chance at making it work during a time where big budget movies dominate at the box office.

I really wanted to like this movie. I came out to watch it in hopes that it would change my initial impression. But, unfortunately it didn’t. If anything it only drove my original point home even more.

Maybe Big Boi’s next acting venture will be more desirable. The man’s got charisma, there is no denying that. Unfortunately that isn’t enough to carry a feature film.

Big Boi appeared on V103 the other day offering $50,000 for anyone who has any information on his wife Sherlita Patton’s boutique, P.Valentine Boutique. Apparently her store which is co-owned by Tracy Valentine was burglarized recently and Antwan wants answers. According to WSBTV, P.Valentine was among a string of boutique stores that have been targeted in the Atlanta area in the past few days.

I didn’t hear the radio segment personally but sources tell me that Antwan want’s to make it clear that he isn’t interested in going to the police. He’s gonna handle the culprits himself, though he didn’t say how.

Has Big lost weight? Also, this movie is being put out by Robert Johnson's new company "Our Stories." When news of his new joint venture with the Weinstein brothers broke, I was excited. They stated that they were going to finally release movies from an African-American perspective that we actually wanted to see. I am so disappointed in the Weinstein brothers, Bob Johnson and Tracey Edmonds who happens to be President and COO over at Our Stories. But then again, Bob did create BET.
