HOT 107.9 Birthday Bash Special Report: The Good, The Bad, And Yes Even The Usher!!

Posted on June 18, 2007 1:47 AM

Hot 107.9’s Annual Birthday Bash was off the chain this year!!

Today’s hottest entertainers, most of which represent the south, came out to show over 20,000 fans some love,

This years event was particuarlly special because it made history - by being selling out one week prior to showtime.

T.I., The Game, Ciara, Usher, Jermaine Dupri, Faboo, 8Ball and MJG, DJ Khaled, DJ Drama, Young Buck, that damn Bobby Valentino, Lil John, and others were in the building. And I got some tight video and pictures for y’all to check out.

But before we get into it, I have to shout out a special faithful SoHH Atlanta reader —Lil Jeff.

I had the pleasure of running into him at the bash, and he just so happens to be related to one of Disturbing Tha Peace representative's Chaka Zulu. Here’s to you lil homie –keep reading!

Aiight now lets get into the grease throwing…

Part I:

It seems that it was too hot for fans to come to Hot 107.9’s Block Party. As you can see from the video the turnout was small. With acts like Marques Houston, and Lloyd on the bill it wasn’t a total surprise.

I’m telling you all now - don’t sleep on The Shop Boyz. There new album is tight and the all possess great personalities that will carry them far in life.

Part II:

**WARNING GREASE THROWING BELOW**

Usher
made an unexpected surprise appearance with his newly engaged “fiancé”, Tameka Foster, to receive the Lisa Left Eye Lopes Award. He took to the stage amidst throngs of fans screaming his name.

While I loath the publicity whore "U" has become, I can’t really blame him as much as I blame the media. And yes, I put myself in that category, for contributing to his huge ego.

Let’s see if his new album can support his larger then life persona.

I don’t mean to rain on the humanitarian parade but 3,000 dollars between JD, Usher, and LA Ried – are you kidding? Doesn’t Usher spend that much money on a pair of jeans – pathetic!

Part III:

Sometimes I forget (I don’t know how) that Ciara is from Atlanta. It seems when she comes home it’s more of like a reunion with old friends and family members. I like to see things like that – it shows a real side of them apart from the persona.

T.I. set the stage on fire, but there was quite a battle between the King of The South's people and the media. It seems T.I. wasn’t too happy that people were recording his performance.

Once his entourage became aware that it was going down--EVERYONE--got thrown out the media pit. I don’t know why they act like that. It only hypes up his projects and gives the fans a taste of what they missed out on. If anything it sells more tickets for T.I.'s next concert dates - but whatevea.

Although I did hear that that the fans went ape sh*t when Jeezy came out to rock the mic with his hometown recording rival.

All in all if you missed out on this years Birthday Bash you missed a tight ass show. It was my first time attending-and I had a blast.

I got to give special shout out and BIG Thank you to Tahira Wright (The Platinum Dynasty) and Katena Keno (JFK Entertainment) for the invite.

I’d like also like to shout out DJ Mars for doing his thing on the stage with Ciara. And Radio One, and Hot 107.9 for putting together a stellar event.

Oh, but next year dont forget to feed your media people - we got to eat too!!

Talk to y'all lata,

--SoHH Gyant

  • What does the Lisa Lopes Foundation do exactly? I would have to know that before I judge their contribution.

I'm not mad at TI. If someone else is going to get paid off of his performance he SHOULD be getting a piece of that. For all we know he may have had his own people recording the performance. If I were an artist I would won't to have some control over video releases of my performances too.

As for the rest, it sounds like a good time was had by all. Since you didn't mention any fights or shots fired that makes it that much better.

  • Man i've been reading this blog and Gyant, all you do is hate & complain! Straight up! Enough of that happens already in hip hop and all you do a fuss, and whine over how much Usher, JD, and LA Reid contributed to Lisa Lopes Foundation? Man talk about Hip-Hop in Atlanta!!!! Tlak about the Real artists in the "A" instead of talking about your random hate!

  • Birthday Bash was alrite but compared to last year it was kinda wack...I mean half the artist there really only had 1 song that they could perform...compared to last year's line up this years was boo-boo! I had good seats right in front of the stage but after TI and Jeezy performed I sat down for the rest of the nite! I got crunk again as we were leavin and I turned around and seen Webbie, Boosie, and Foxx on the stage...I hope Birthday Bash 13 has more to offer!

  • I liked B-Day bash at HiFi it seems a little wack since it has been at the arena. Anyway, TI did his thing. I LOVED Ciara's performance. Game could have stayed on the West Coast. What happen at the Car-n-Bike Show? Why did they have the events on the same day?

  • After reading the comments posted for birthday bash 2007.I'm glad i didn't attend this year event.Seems like you could have had a better line up for, performers this year.I attended birhday bash, 3 years in a row, and i think it was so much better at Lakewood!!!!!! if you ask me" More room and of coarse being out doors chilling in the lawn!!And walking around!! Phillips Arena is too small!!!.And you really don't have no room where you sitting. The only thing that was cool was having air condition! But it would be back off the chain at Lakewwod!!You might want to keep that in mind!!!B/c next year everybody will be attending the car and bike show. It's too many kids at Birthday bash anyway,we need an event for the 25 and up crew!!!

  • THIS IS MY 6TH BIRTHDAY BASH AND BY FAR THE WORST ONE I HAVE BEEN TO. AT SOME POINTS, IT WAS ACTUALLY KIND OF BORING!! EVER SINCE THEY MOVED IT FROM THE HIFIBUY AMPITHEATER TO PHILLIPS ARENA, IT HAS BEEN GOING DOWN HILL. SEEMS LIKE BIRTHDAY BASH IS GETTING COMMERCIAL. IT USED TO GO "DOWN" AT LAKEWOOD!!! BUT IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST ONE, YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. IT DIDN'T USED TO BE A BIRTHDAY BASH W/ OUT LIL JON, "THE OLD T.I.", T-TROY, AND THE OOMP CAMP TEARING THAT B@#$% DOWN!!!
