BET Music Awards Recap: T.I. Aplogizes, Luda Wins, And Ciara...Well Ciara Just Sucked!!

What's up everybody,
Every year since its inception, I grab a pint of my favorite ice cream and crowd in front of the television to watch the BET Music Awards.
I usually post my commentary on my popular blog O1LT.com. However, this year I thought I would share it with you guys exclusively.
This is my favorite time of year when I can address all the buffoonery, fashion faux pas and corny moments that usually has everyone crowding around the water cooler the next day.
Check out what I had to say about the BET Music Awards 2007. Warning, proceed with caution...
Pre Show Questions/Comments:
* What the hell is going on with Lloyd’s hair? Some people take the metrosexual thing way too far. I couldn’t tell if that was a dude or a chick when I first saw him come on stage. (Please read between the lines on that. He brought his mother as his date for God’s sake).
And somebody please tell Lloyd its time to sing another damn song. That "Get It Shawty" sh*t is o-v-e-r!
* When the hell are they going to fire Rocsi and Terrence as the host of "106 & Park?" They have made the cheap imitation of "TRL" cornier than Free and A.J. ever did.
* Since when did the Gumby come back in style? Somebody do Yung Joc a favor and pull a drive by with some clippers. That shit was hot in the 90’s, and that’s where it needs to stay.
* Maybe it’s just me but didn’t Bones, Thugs & Harmony used to have five members? What the hell happened?
* Damn Shop Boyz... did you guys even do a sound check before you hit the stage? And what was up with chick holding the guitar who obviously wasn’t playing it…y’all need to do a lot better.
Main Show Questions/Comments:
* Damn, what is this – celebrate big girls day? Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Holiday, Mo’nique and her big girl gang, and Queen Latifah all in the first five minutes of the show. WTF? That was way too much lard for me. Shout out to all the big girls but DAMN!
* Though GH might be pissed at me right now T.I. (or was it Tip, I get confused) lit his set on fiyah. I’ve seen Clifford perform numerous times and they are always filled with energy and excitement. Good job!
* T.I. shocked the hell out of me by acknowledging and apologizing to all parties involved in the fight that went down at Kevin Liles charity event on Sunday in the third person. I don’t know what to say about that one.
They say there’s a thin like between crazy and insanity. I think it might be time for someone to make the call to have Tip evaluated. I’m not saying, I’m just saying.
* When did Luda get to be so serious? I mean while I can understand the importance of projecting a business image. Hell, this is the BET Music Awards – lighten up a little homie.
*Ci-Ci I love you, but what the hell was that? Please fire whomever told you to make it rain with one dollar bills. Plus, where the hell was Mars?
*Shout out to Ne-Yo and the entire Compound Entertainment clan - especially you Paula Campbell (wink). I saw you looking good as hell by Ne-Yo’s side. I'll see you soon Mama.
All in all the awards sucked this year BIG TIME. From Mo’nique preaching every chance she got, to the lack luster performances that did nothing for me. I dont think I will be rushing to the television next year.
It looks like BET needs to go back to the drawing board and get it together for next year. That was four hours of my life I can never get back.

Gyant, homie, I been readin the blog for about a month now, but trust me, its not cause they're good. The comments people post about you are hilarious and I see why people dogg you. You callin Lloyd a metro when you usin these phrases no dudes I kick it with will ever use. Whats good with you b? You eatin ice cream in from of the tv now? Come on mann...
It seem like this blog writer is a hater. Lloyd look fine so leave him alone he tried something new like he always do and I think he looked fine. Also I think bringing his mama with him was the sweetest thing he could do. Show how much love he got for the person who gave life to him.
But I would agree the award show suck and the best performance for me was Ciara.

50 Cent will probably knock the s**t outta the sound engineer for f***ing up his set. The Gerald Levert tribute was very nice. That's the only thing that was good about the whole award this year. Is it me or Robin Thicke sounds like that guy with the girl voice from New Kids On The Block LMAO!!! (Even my momma said so)
This show was horrible? It's a shame that we don't have any "GOOD QUALITY" singers who can actually give you a true performance. "B" was good as usual. The tribute to Gerald Levert was wonderful, but that was it.. The state of blacks in music is slowly declining.

It was something kinda "off" about these awards...the performances was like something you should see on 106 & Park cause nobody really had any award show performances(with the exception of the tributes)
Gyant, what's going on? I've started reading blogs on SOHH for 2 weeks now and you are the symbolic definition of a hater. Hating on Lloyd bc he brought his momma? What kind of son are you? Shit, you must be jealous bc most of the ladies were pulling for Lloyd. Next year, he's going 2 be the top R&B prince. But the awards are about trying new things. Yung Joc did his hairstyle that way to symbolize when hip-hop was fun, energetic, and different. I think the awards were okay. Monique really shouldn't have done that Big Beyonce skit. She could've did something else. It's played and comes off as too kiss assy.
I missed the Jennifers performance and why the hell was J. Hud even nominated. She's cool and everything, but let's be fair. Mary J. should have gotten an award.
Diddy could have stayed off stage. Lil Kim really should have left her face alone. She was cute before all that. Now she looks like a muppet.
I liked Ciara's performance. You should know now not to expect much for her live in the vocals department. But she has lots of energy.
I only like the dances at the end of Beyonce's set. She was stepping to a bounce song. I'm from New Orleans so it looked weird to me. Steppin is steppin and bounce is bounce. That's why the dances looked better in the end. But she getting that icon status and I can't hate on a talented black woman getting it.

WTF was 50 doin running around the stage for a whole verse. i bet he forgot the words, or forgot to start the song. it was weak anywayz. it damn near look like my boy 50 is falling off.

Like every other year, the White Nigga Movement shows support to the BET Awards. Despite it being a "dry" show, niggaz was looking good. Especially 50 cent. OMG, those muscles. 50 did his thing what had happened was some one said somethn smart about him while he came out and performed so he went into the crowd to see who it was 50 can doo what the fuck he wants do u c his album selld and curtis will also PLATINUM TRUST 100
T.I. handle his like a man, you got to give him props for that.
50 was mad cause the crowd wasn't hype, his ego got the best of him. I thought dude was going to walk off without performing, but he's a better business man than that, but you could tell he was pissed at the crowd because of their lack of emotion during his set, oh well.
The best parts were the tributes to Levert and Diana Ross. I really think BET needs to book other acts besides hip hop & R&B, gets some blues or jazz or gospel or something because it gets old seeing the same 5 people perform and they ain't doing nothing new or exciting.
All in all it was better than last years show.

As far as this being "just the BET Awards", isn't it about time our ppl showed some maturity and integrity at these shows? I see more suits, less bling, less drama and it's quite refreshing for once.
I've actually attended a couple of live shows in the past, and one year, and they threw Snoop out of the auditorium for beefing with Suge and his ppl.

This year's BET awards were shitty from beginning to end. Mo'nique aint funny...she's just fat and loud.
Beyonce always delivers but she's just not enough to carry the entire show.
50 Cent let the public see him sweat. His ego was basically dissolved once he relized people aint feeling him no more.
Neyo is a HORRIBLE performer who would be better off behind the scenes writing, producing & developing other artists.
Keysha Cole is just not a singer. She's so unpolished and has no star quality or anything else that makes u wanna listen to her scream.
Accross the board we've gotten lazy lowered our standards and have compromised our music and entertainment. Everything was so juvenile and poorly executed that it took away from the validity of the show. We need to step our game up!

Ciara, Beyonce, Kelly, and Eve were awesome! I will admit that Kelly's vocals weren't all that great, but that may be due to the fact that she did immediately follow the powerful Queen Bee. NOPE, I doubt it! Solange and Michelle were even on point! 50? Horrible! Ne-Yo? Could have been better! I have seen him do much better in person! Overall, I think it was a good show.

I CANNOT STAND THAT COMPLAINING-BEHIND FIDDY!!!!!! He's tired and needs to get over himself quick! Usher performed on an awards show one year, and not only did his mike go out, he managed to tangle himself all up inside of the mike cord, but he was trying to take his jacket off and got stuck in the sleeves. He still handled himself like a true professional and kept it going.

I seriously am not hating. I just expect more from my black entertainers and musicians. We're in a dilusional state where we keep honoring mediorocrity and giving praise to those who don't deserve it. I understand that its good to encourage and uplift your prople but at the same time its better to see it for what it is and be real about it...but when we do that your labeled as being a hater.
I have no reason to hate on any artist. I just love quality products. And being a 70's baby I have been exposed to the real deal. Real singing, real comedy, original intellectual thinking, and true artistic expression.
If you were to look back from then to now you'll see that the integrity of our music/entertainment has suffered at the expense of a quick dollar. And its become down right embarrassing.

I thought I was watching a repeat.And I dont know about you,but when J Hud and Jennifer Holiday performed,I thought Jennifer was gonna come through my tv and eat me.I was on the floor laughing! she was trying way too hard and just ended up sounding stupid.
Did anyone watch the BET preshow when Terrance and Rocsi asked Yung Joc if he brought a date? He laughed said no and gave a shout out to an Alex. It could just be me but sounded super homo.

Yes, his first album was a classic, but consistency makes for a great baseball player & RAPPER.... Sadly, he has & all the fans have adorned him as the face of Hip-Hop. I must say something because I don't see where anyone could say that the award show was good. It had good moments but it was overall a waste of time. I really don't have anything bad to say about anyone except 50, I just felt so ashamed. Things were going so respectable until he dropped the f bomb. Beyonce was on point as usual, Kelly was good but she should work on singing and dancing at the same time as should Ciara (we all know this) I have seen Ciara perform way better than that. Maybe she's spending too much time with 50. Although I do agree that Mo'nique should not have did the Beyonce thing and picked something else, I understand that Bey is the only one out there making you want to move like that so.

seriously am not hating. I just expect more from my black entertainers and musicians. We're in a dilusional state where we keep honoring mediorocrity and giving praise to those who don't deserve it. I understand that its good to encourage and uplift your prople but at the same time its better to see it for what it is and be real about it...but when we do that your labeled as being a hater.
I have no reason to hate on any artist. I just love quality products. And being a 70's baby I have been exposed to the real deal. Real singing, real comedy, original intellectual thinking, and true artistic expression.
If you were to look back from then to now you'll see that the integrity of our music/entertainment has suffered at the expense of a quick dollar. And its become down right embarrassing.

Couldn't agree more. That was her breakout performance as a solo act and she made some hideous mistakes.
1. Coming on directly after Beyonce
2. The lame costume.
