Poppin or Floppin Video of The Week: Shop Boyz "Party Like A RockStar"!!!

If you live in Atlanta then hopefully you got a chance to get out and watch the Shop Boyz put it down on stage at Club Primetime out there on Covington Highway.

I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to get make the show. But I aint gonna lie their new song “Party Like A Rockstar” is that fiyah. And it’s my selection for this week’s “Poppin or Floppin” video.

Check it out…

A lot of people are calling these kats white boys and sellouts for making this joint, but I think this shit is what makes rap music interesting and my most favorite genre of music to listen to.

This song doesn’t have any killing, drug dealing, or nothing like that. It’s just a fun record that you can dance your ass off to at the club. The Gyant stands behind this sh*t 100% and hopefully the boyz will let me get that video interview on them so y’all can get a better sense of who they are.

Check out there video and open your minds up to absorbing a different element to Hip-Hop. A lot of people try to put the culture in a box, but the Shop Boyz is showing everybody that you cant put them into anything square.

Is this what we've become? A group of people who will do ANYTHING to make a buck...including, but not limited to, cooning, shucking, jiving, barking, fighting, walking on all fours (and any other animalistic ritual)--I guess this is the result of all of the "get money", "I'm a hustler", "cake-a-holic" songs that we've heard in the past 10 years. When you lead a people to believe that having money is the only thing that matters in life (which is where hip hop and the million companies that back it have lead us), how can you then tell them that what they're doing is wrong? To me, Hip hop (or should I say "mainstream rap") has officially become the strongest tool of black exploitation that this country has ever seen...WAY past the minstrel shows with extremity, and WAY past slavery with monetary profit...this is getting bad--*shaking head*

Ya'll take some of these artists too seriously. These Dudes never came out and said they dope lyricists, or hip hop's savior so let them get they party on.
It's a fun track and that's all it's supposed to be.

I feel your point, but we still can't excuse the fact that the record companies and TV stations are OBVIOUSLY swinging the door open and paying the most "ignant" niggas that they can find to act a fool on TV. Don't get it twisted...I LOVE hip-hop, always have...but as a black man, it offends me to see that most of the images of US on TV are people showing off their gold teeth, flauting money & cars, fighting, and acting like complete fools--Granted, EVERYBODY likes to have fun at some point, but if we are allowing ourselves to be positioned as fun loving, dancing, ignorant, care free people who blow money on foolishness and stick our d*cks in anything ALL of the time, how can we EVER be taken seriously? It's up to us to have some standards as to what we will and won't do just for a check...that's what this boils down to...Do you think the Shop Boyz would have any backing if they used this same beat and enthusiasm to rap about black pride? Think about it...

If any of you ignorant clowns knew about music, there were many black people that did rock music before Elvis stole it, before guns & roses claimed it.

Here is some info: “The term "rock and roll", which was black slang for dancing or sex, appeared on record for the first time in 1922 on Trixie Smith's "My Baby Rocks Me With One Steady Roll". The video is okay think they should have came a little harder. I guess they shot the video on a just got sign artist budget. They should have found some footage from the club Metroplex which in the 80's was considered the worlds greatest punk club.

I think black people have to learn to be able to be vulnerable without feeling like they're selling out. While I'm not a fan of the song, I appreciate the fact that these young brother's were able to come out and make a fun song without referencing violence, drug's, or gangs. Unfortunately, hiphop is in a perilous time where it's either defined by how good your "snap" game is or how good your "snowman" game is.

If black folk are gonna make it in America, we're gonna have to figure out a way to be both strong and humble as well as being vulnerable. We have to stop taking ourselves so seriously.

I think it's a great song and video.
I like the Shop Boyz putting a different spin on the crunk sound. All the hate on this blog is coming from the dreadlocked backpacker hip-hop "purists" frustrated that The South is selling major, while they're 38 years old and still rapping about "real hip-hop" at open mics.
