Chuck D On Russell Simmons...He's A Buzzard!!!!

I had the opportunity to attend an event with Russell Simmons at the Blue Room last night in Buckhead. But when I got to the spot, they gave me a hard time regarding my camera.

It seems that though I was allowed to enter the party, I wasn’t allowed to take any video or pictures. What the hell did Russell think I was going to do sketch a picture of him?

Needless to say, I didn’t stay more then 10 minutes because without my camera with me, I’m useless. I’m there for the people, and if I can’t record what going on around me then there is no point in me being there.

Anyway though I was brutally rebuffed regarding Russell Simmons it seems that Chuck D from Public Enemy is not too thrilled with the founding father either. Find out more after the jump!

I got a video of the pioneering rapper discussing the three word ban that Russell is attempting to impose. Chuck D accuses Russell Simmons of trying to impose a ban that he helped ignite back when Hip-Hop first started. He even goes as far as to call Russ a buzzard.

Real talk, Chuck D is my dude. He straight spoke the truth, and lets hope others follow in his path.

  • What Up!? I'm feelin' Chuck D on his mind set but you have plenty of people who do wrong in/to their community & have a day of awakening. Yes Russell may have played his part in the negative way blacks were perceived but he made a foundation & started a blueprint on how to get yours in this music business from publishing rights to fashion. I respect both Chuck & Russell for their intelligence & mostly for their honesty! Chuck has always spoke as he feels but our respected hip-hop leaders should not be so quick to start repeating the cycle of the "crabs-in-a-barrel" syndrome.

    I'm from Columbus, Ohio & I say stop dissin' the brotha's down South making some guac! I don't favor alot of the music that have recently came out but damn let dem folks EAT!     ^^^^^which is why whut RUSH is doing is meaningless and silly, because the FCC DOES regulate certain profanity on radio & television, unless it's cable

    like i said, he's the one being hypocritical, especially when just before he made that announcement he was on OPRAH defending rapper's use of foul language! it's obviously his reason he's doing this to backtrack for his own best interest..he doesn't care whut a rapper does, hell...he's the one that founded ONYX, promoted that bullshit idea of HORRORCORE RAP and pushed out his nephew's group, THE FLATLINERS....the only reason he's doing this now is so he can rub hands with the right people...it's business, not for the sake of hiphop

    ^^^^^^1st of all, if it wasn't for RICK RUBIN there would not be a DEF JAM, it was not RUSH that created def jam, but rick rubin & jazzy jay...the only reason russel simmons hopped on because he had management clout...but russel simmons was NOT responsible of opening the doors for P.E., that was RICK!! lets get that out of the way 1st and formost...

Soap operas and other shows regularly air the word bitch on regular TV. Although the majority of HipHop has already removed most of the words from radio edits, it still is a valid point to let the hiphop haters know that the edited versions are available if you're offended by those words. So Chuck sounds stupid for disrespecting a man that has done way more for hiphop than he ever has.

  • Russel may be more outspoken than Ruben...but Russel is not the poster child of Def Jam....Def Jam was founded by Russell Simmons AND Rick Rubin in Rubin's dorm room at New York University...Lyor Cohen became president of Def Jam in 1988, after winning a power struggle with Rubin, who would shortly thereafter leave the company to form Def American Recordings (now known as American Recordings).The label was for R&B artists. The first artist that Def Jam signed was Oran "Juice" Jones.
    Believe me Rick got just as much cake as Russel....he just don't flaunt it.

    also all this talk about rick rubin wouldn't be where he is today without russel simmons, it should of been the other way around...rick DIDN'T HAVE TO choose rush to be on his team to boost this label off the ground...i'm going to say this again that rick rubin & jazzy jay CREATED def jam in 1983 & T-la rock's classic joint "it's yours" being it's 1st record...russel simmons came in a year later in 1984

    it's no different to whut puffy did during the '04 election with that "vote or die" bullshit....and not voting himself...

    russel gave NO realistic solutions or advice to help situations in the hiphop culture...he wants to say vague, but politically correct statements just so he can look good to certain business personnel for future business ventures...

    like i said, if he REALLY wanted people to tone down profanity, he should of went to the ghettos and reach out to the kids about the irresponsibilities that are to come by using that sort of language...you go to the ROOT of the problem, but the facilitator...because that language is the commonplace with lower society in which HIPHOP originated in the 1st place....
