May 2007 Archives

The Prince of Def Jam (at the moment) has already made Atlanta his home, and now he’s looking to impact the Atlanta music scene with a brand new luxury studio that’s been called Carrington House.

DJ Mars, Tango, Lil Scrappy, Melissa Ford, DJ Drama, Frank Ski, Keisha Knight Pulliam, Diana Degarmo, Tony Rock, and a bevy of others all came out to support the R&B crooner’s new business venture.

melissa-ford.jpg

Last night I had the opportunity to attend Ne-Yo’s new recording studio opening and had planned on letting you all know about him - but something happened last night that had me focusing on something entirely off topic. I got two words for youâ€"Melissa Ford!

The former video vixen turned actor is in town filming a movie with Vivica A. Fox called Three Can Play That Game, a sequel to Two Can Play That Game.

I got some hot video as well as some scorching pictures of the Canadian beauty. And don’t worry all you Ne-Yo fans -I got you. I will do another post later on this afternoon highlighting his event. But right now it’s all about Melissa.

BLIND.gif

You all seemed to respond so well to my last blind (not so blind) item that I thought I would do another one.

Which former drug dealer turned rapper is allegedly on the verge of losing millions over exercising shady business practices with another up and coming Atlanta music producer?

See if you can guess after the jump.

neyoaudition1.jpg

It looks like Ne-Yo is doing big things! Not only is he working with virtually everybody who’s anybody in the music industry he’s also dominating the music charts.

And now â€" not only is he juggling a national tour he’s about to open up a new recording studio right here in the city of Atlanta, GA.

50centcoverjulyem7.jpg

What’s good everybody?

I trust y’all had a banging holiday weekend. I’m still out of town but I got this emailed to me over the weekend and I just had to put it up for you guys to see for yourselves.

50 Cent is on the cover of July’s Vibe Magazine and if I can be truthful this dude looks like he was hit in the face with the ugly stick. Nah f*uk that he looks like Game bust Curtis in the head with a shovel.

SoHH Gyant's Weekly Recap!!

What’s good everybody?

I’m not even going to front; I’m out of town on a much needed vacation. But since I post so many stories, I thought that I’d post a few “best of” posts.

I’ve compiled a few posts from SoHH Atlanta as well as other hot blogs like SoHH Soulful, and Ya heard.

From Bobby V to Young Jeezy there’s always lot to recap this week so check them out!

Simpsons_movie_poster.png

Shout to my dude over at Drewreports.com for letting me know about this.

As I’m sure everybody knows, The Simpons is coming to the big screen this summer. If you’re a fan of Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Homer and Marge, then I’m sure you’ll be hitting the theaters to check it out.

But you might want to also check out the soundtrack because based on the tracklist that I just got. The Simpson’s truly do ride with the South!

YJ.jpg

Just when I was praising Young Jeezy for a successful album release party the other night, reports are circling that Jeezy is behind bars.

At first I ran this story as a rumor. But now after making some phone calls to the Dekalb County Police Department I can now confirm that Jeezy was in fact arrested.

DSC02579.JPG

Last night Young Jeezy, Slick Pulla and
Blood Raw graced Club 112 with their presence in celebration of their new album Cold Summer which just hit stores. I decided to get out of the house and stop by the event to see if there was anything worth talking about.

The event was to start at 10 but knowing Jeezy’s track record I knew to not leave my house until at least 11:30. The spot was packed as hell! It seems that Jeezy has a lot more fans then I realized Throngs of fans all put on their tightest gear to come rub elbows with the former drug dealer (hey, I take my jabs where I can).

V103’s Frank Ski, DJ Drama, Rich Squad member, Yung Sean, and a handful of other local celebs all came out to show their luv. Check out my exclusive pictures and video after the jump.

BOBBYV.jpg
View image

Somebody hit the sad music for DTP/Def Jam recording artist Bobby Valentino. His new album has tumbled down the sales chart 66% -dropping from #3 to #16. estimated.

This album is a failure no matter how you look at it. Not even the most talented publicist can spin the truth around on thisâ€"it’s a wrap for Bobby V. I know that I’m often times considered to be a hater of DTP’s R&B representative, but I truly tried to help in my own unique way.

crimemoB1.jpg

Did Crime Mob member, Diamond, get into a scuffle that resulted in her being charged with assault?

That’s what blogger Sandra Rose is saying on her popular entertainment site. According to one of her close sources the rapper and another woman aboard their tour bus were arguing over a man when another female on the bus (alleged to be a friend of Diamond's) intervened and slashed the woman's face with a sharp object, possibly a knife.

USDA_COVERART.jpg

It’s USDA Day in Atlanta. They will be signing copies of their new album at the Walmart in Camp Creek at 6pm and then from there it’s going to be on and poppin at Club 112 for their listening party.

Also watch a segment of their You Tube TV where they handle the press, or tries to anyway.

TOCHILLIN.jpg

What’s good everybody?

I see a lot of you guys are tripping off my Mase post. I love starting a little controversy, and apparently so does T.I.

T.I. addressed all the Hip-Hop hoopla that Don Imus started and here’s what he had to say:

MASE.png
View image

Yo I won’t beat around the bush. What you’re looking at is a copy of the traffic citation that Mase got late last week.

As you all know the internets have been a buzz regarding Mase and his supposed Transvestite affinity.

BLIND.gif

What's good everybody?

I decided to give my weekly Atlanta's Own showcase a rest for the week because I really want to talk about something else that happened over the weekend.

Ok, so I went to a hip-hop concert this weekend to get some great shots and video for you guys. However, when I got there it was very apparent that nobody cares about these particular rappers any longer as they failed to fill the venue even half to capacity.

I felt so bad for the performers that I called up their record label and told them that I wouldn't do a post on them; but I never said anything about putting it in the form of a Blind Item. So put your thinking caps on and observe all the clues.

FUNDISHA.jpg

The incredible artist known as Fundisha (Foon-desha) is a soul singer from Newark, New Jersey, who now calls Atlanta home. She took the opportunity to talk to the “Mouth of The South” in a very candid conversation about her struggles in securing a firm position, in the often time’s unstable industry that we all know to be the music business.

The former So So Def recording artist who’s worked with such top tier acts like Bow Wow, Mary J. Blige and Tyrese, is attempting to capture her own solo success with a new mix tape (“The Struggle”), a new outlook on life, and most importantly a strong understanding of the music business.

Find out more about Fundisha after the jump!

112_TI_L1.jpg

See, this is why I love T.I.!! Say what you will about him, but the brutha is consistent.

I got a new track from his highly anticipated album “TI vs. Tip”. This track which features Haiti's golden MC ,Wyclef Jean, is banging.

You know I got "You Know What It Is" available for you to listen to exclusively on SoHH Atlanta

USDA Covers Grip Magazine!!

usadagrip.jpg

I just left the Grip Magazine offices and got a preview to this month’s edition. It’s not in stores yet so you’re getting an exclusive look at their new cover with the Boyz from USDA on the cover.

POPPIN_0035.jpg

T.I.'s new video has been released for "Big Things Poppin" and of course the Gyant got it for y'all to check out. I dont know what I think about this video. I dont know how I feel about the video just yet. I mean there really isnt anything original about it.

Maybe its just me.

BOBBY1.jpg

It looks like all the promotion Disturbing Tha Peace/Def Jam put into Bobby Valentino’s sophomore album paid off as the pint sized R&B singer bowed in at number three this week. Bobby’s new album, Special Occasion, sold an impressive (for his second album) 92,000 copies this week according to Billboard.com

While Bobby’s debut was a lot higher then I’m sure anybody expected seeing that the Timbaland produced “Anonymous” has received very little radio airplay. In today’s musically troubled times he and his camp are going to have grind it out to push this album to a platinum success. Their work has really just begun.

LUDACRISANI.png

What's good everybody?

First it was Andre 3000 and now it looks like southern mogul Ludacris is getting in on the cartoon business.

Earlier this year it was announced that Ludacris was going animation with a surprising role on what seems like the longest running cartoon known to man, "The Simpsons".

Pastor Mase- "Welcome Back"!!!

mase-grin.jpg

I have been on the fence about talking about the issue regarding the scandalous “incident” that involved Pastor Mason Betha and his shocking transvestite allegations that have spreading throughout the streets of Atlanta.

Oh believe you me I have talked about it, but didnt know how to present it to readers of SOHH without stepping on some toes. I know ATL has alot of love for the Pastor.

According to the rumor mill- Mase slammed into a Range Rover (Thursday May 10th) on Spring Street, or Peachtree Street (it depends on who you ask) looking for a Transvestite.

Find out more on the salacious story after the jump.

shopbo.jpg

If you live in Atlanta then hopefully you got a chance to get out and watch the Shop Boyz put it down on stage at Club Primetime out there on Covington Highway.

I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to get make the show. But I aint gonna lie their new song “Party Like A Rockstar” is that fiyah. And it’s my selection for this week’s “Poppin or Floppin” video.

Check it out…

sohhatlantasown.jpg

What’s good everybody,

Well it’s Monday and you know what that means, I got three hot tracks for you guys for my weekly showcase.

If you got some skills you need to make sure you get at me (Email Me) with your sh*t. Nobody’s gonna give you the exposure like I can. And that’s real!!

ti.bmp

OK, so last week I did a post on T.I. telling everybody to respect his gangsta when it comes to going to a T.I. concert. But now I’m starting to think that his on stage rants are possibly apart of the act.

A fan of SoHH Atlanta sent over a video where the self proclaimed “King of The South” performed at Cornell University. But get this, when someone tossed some water on stage TI’s rage gave me a strong sense of Déjà vu. Check out the video after the jump!

I got a chance to check out the hype that is Chris Brown at V103’s sponsored event Friday night and to call it pandemonium would be a huge understatement.

I knew that the ladies loved the boy, but I had no idea that they loved him that much.

What's Good Everybody,

In my second segment with DJ Shakim we talked about USDA, Women's supposed "issues" with rap music and ownsership as a DJ for playing questionable rap songs!

Check out my exclusive World Famous SuperFriends Video Interview after the jump!

SLIM%20FROM%20112%20AND%20FRIEND.jpg

Now y’all know I don’t like to start rumors. But, I saw 112 lead singer Slim (Marvin Scandrick) out and about last night at Atlanta’s Power 30 Under 30, an event that praises the top 30 business professionals under the age of 30. And homeboy’s not looking so slim anymore.

In fact he’s looking very puffyâ€"but minus the Sean Combs.

WFSF.jpg

With Hip-Hop looming in such a questionable state, I thought it would be best to start with the DJ’s of the world to get everyone a clearer insight on what the hell is going on. And hopefully start taking steps to rectify the destruction of a culture I hold near and dear to my heart.

Last week it was DJ Tayrock & this week its the ultra charismatic DJ Shakim.

In this edition of “Real Talk With SoHH Gyant” the NYC bred DJ sheds some light on Hip-Hop, Bow Wow, Omarion, his wife and former recording artist of So So Def records, Fundisha and whole lot more.

Check out my exclusive never before seen interview with DJ Skakim after the jump!

tpain.jpg

I’ve pretty mum regarding Konvict Muzik recording artist, T-pain and his new song “Buy You a Drink”.

While I have always had luv for T-Pain’s music I was just on the fence at first about this song. That is before I heard this new Remix.

USDA_COVERART.jpg

As you all know Young Jeezy and his boys Slick Pulla and Blood Raw, better known as U.S.D.A., are coming out with a new album called Cold Summer, which drops on 5/22/07.

Well, a new song has hit the Internet called “Corporate Thuggin” and I got the audio for y’all to listen to!

I guess since they're having a hard time getting people to support "White Girls" they're trying it again with this high-octane track.

shop%20boyz.jpg

The New Atlanta trio, Shop Boyz, have been burning the radio airwaves and night clubs up with their rock infused hit “Party Like A Rock Star”.

Since you know I’m the hardest working blogger, that never gets any sleep, I got not one but two tracks from their upcoming album which hits stores on June 26th. Check them out after the jump.

TI1.jpg

This is one of the reasons why I got a lot of Luv for T.I. - he’s just a real dude. I just obtained a video of T.I. performing at Bentley College in Boston Mass.

In this video clip Clifford is trying to put on a good show for his fans when some bold kat tries to be funny and tosses something on the stage towards the Bankhead bred rap star. What happens next??? Find out after the jump!

I know most of y'all been just heated because ya'll couldn't comment on any of the posts. But you'll all be glad to know that the comments section is back up....so lets not spit too much venom aiight??

STREETALK1.jpg

I’ve been posting so much lately that I almost forgot about tomorrows Street Talk networking event that’s going down at Club 360 (formerly Club Chocolate)

This is a chance for you to link up with other artists, producers, and record industry insiders and make some serious connections. This is Street Talk’s second time doing something like this. I’m sure it’s a great way to sell yourself and your music.

MISTA.bmp

Y’all remember this cut from back in the day?

With a group of friends, Bobby Valentino formed Mista, a Boyz II Men-styled singing group that made some waves with their "Blackberry Molasses" single.

usda.jpg

What’s good everybody?

I got that new video of Jeezy’s new rap group USDA for y’all to check out.

It’s a rough cut, which means it’s not the best digital quality but it’s still pretty decent. Of course I have issues with the song, the video and everything else USDA.

What’s good everybody?

OK, so I have had my time to digest the Bobby Valentino album release party that I attended last night and you’ll be surprised to know that I don’t have anything negative to say about the event. It’s shocking I know.

sohhatlantasown.jpg

What’s good everybody?

The main reason why I decided to re-launch SoHH.com’s Atlanta’s Own is because I know first hand how many talented, socially conscious unsigned artists there are out there, and its time for them to get their shine.

Everybody is shouting that Hip-Hop is dead, but what is anybody doing to try and save it? Well I have platform and I’m going to use it to support exactly what this site was built onâ€"which is Online Hip-Hop! Betcha didn't know that's what S.O.H.H. originally stood for did ya?

I had a lot of music to pick from and realized in the middle of my listening session that I ran into a problemâ€"I had too much music!!!

So I had to make one last minute change to the showcase. Instead of posting 5 songs a week, I’m only doing three. If I don’t reduce the amount of songs on one post, then it will just be too much text to read and I feel that people will grow tired of all the reading which could potentially leave some music left unheard. Surely you can understand…

LUDA.jpg

Every since Don Imus made those ridiculous comments regarding the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team that ultimately got him canned, everyone has been feeling the ripples of censorship.

From Television to Radio it seems that we’ve all been playing it extremely safe, particularly in Hip-Hop, when it comes to what we say and how we’re saying it. The hot topic has gotten so heated that it seems that fortune 500 companies as well as national publications are looking at rappers with a certain uneasiness that’s apparently tricked all the way to down to Atlanta rapper Ludacris.

DJTAYROCK.jpg

A super bloggers job is never done. Last week I got a chance to interview President of the World Famous SuperFriends Crew, DJ Mars.

This week I got an opportunity to catch up with busy man DJ Tayrock for a candid conversation on what he’s got going on his end on the DJ Tip. The official DJ for Russell Simmons, and Terrell Owens cleared his schedule to sit down and talk to me about everything from DJ Drama to recently signing a deal with Jazzy Pha’s record label, Sho' Nuff Records.

Check out the two-part video interview after the jump!

bobby.jpg

Damn that Bobby!. And damn that SoHH Soulman for that matter. Here I was completely comfortable in my loathing of the pint sized R&B singer but SoHH Soulman had to post a video of his recent interview with the DTP/Def Jam artist completely changing my feeling(s).

If you visit this column often then you're all but too familiar with my previous disregard for the singer. But again, after watching this video I think I can give the brutha a slide and let him do his thing without bias.

In an exclusive interview obtained by SoHH.com Bobby sat down and talked with the Soulman about everything Bobby in a few video segments called “Bobby V TV”. Check out more after the jump.

It looks like Keisha Cole is trying to get that money. She was the vocal savior that turned Puffy’s “Last Night” into an actual hit. And now it looks like she’s doing the same thing for her reported long time boyfriend “The Snowman”.

Their collaborative effort â€"“Dreamin” has just been released on video and I’ve selected it for this weeks Poppin or Floppin video of the week. Check it out after the jump.

drama.jpg

DJ Drama
has had a trying year so far and we’re not even half way through it. Well all know about the over exaggerated arrest that was made against him a few months ago.

And if the RIAA breathing down DJ Drama’s neck wasn’t bad enough he’s now being forced to change the name that everyone knows him to be. Read more after the jump.

Bad Boy Recording Group â€" Danity Kane touched down in ATL last night while on their concert tour with powerhouse, Christina Aguliera, on her "Back To Basics" Tour

They celebrated their after party at popular club spot Club Fever on Cheshire Bridge.

I know what you’re thinking â€" what the hell does Danity Kane have to do with Atlanta
Hip-Hop
Right?

Well I really couldn’t tell you other then the fact that I wanted to see them in person because they all looked fine as hell on the show.

But I got to tell you there were a few - shall I say - problems with this event. Find out more after the jump.

chuckd.jpg
I had the opportunity to attend an event with Russell Simmons at the Blue Room last night in Buckhead. But when I got to the spot, they gave me a hard time regarding my camera.

It seems that though I was allowed to enter the party, I wasn’t allowed to take any video or pictures. What the hell did Russell think I was going to do sketch a picture of him?

Needless to say, I didn’t stay more then 10 minutes because without my camera with me, I’m useless. I’m there for the people, and if I can’t record what going on around me then there is no point in me being there.

Anyway though I was brutally rebuffed regarding Russell Simmons it seems that Chuck D from Public Enemy is not too thrilled with the founding father either. Find out more after the jump!

WTF, BIG BOI DOING BALLET?

bb_pr.jpg

According to the AJC, it looks like Big Boi is going to stretch his creative muscle. And this time he’ll be doing it in a very interesting wayâ€"by doing ballet!

The Atlanta newspaper is reporting that Big Boi has signed on to perform on stage with the ballet in a new work scheduled for April 10-13, 2008. Few details of the yet-to-be-named work have been decided, according to ballet spokesman Jeff Al-Mashat. More info after the jump!

Sometimes we have to look back in order to look forward.

I’ve complied a few old school videos that used to be the cuts back in the day. Remember when Hip-Hop used to be fun? Remember when it was about big video budgets with socially conscious undertones.

Take a minute to travel back in time with me to when it was all good, well at least better then it is now. Check out my classic video(s) selections after the jump.

shobiz2_b.jpg

I just got this emailed to me so if you can make it out tonight by all means hit up D'Jangos and lets get it poppin. Details after the jump.

Shout out to my man PJ "The Hip-Hop Publicist" for the info.

sohhatlantasown.jpg

Since hip-hop is in such a questionable state right now, I think what we all need is a breath of fresh air. We need artists who can spit that fiyah yet not put themselves in a box like many of today’s rappers have done.

Therefore I am re-launching Atlanta’s Own. The talent showcase, originally created to give unsigned artists a platform to get their music out there to the masses, is coming back.

seanppp.jpg

I think Sean P. might actually have a future in the rap game as a solo artist.

I’m not sure if this is a new song or not, but I like it! I won’t pretend to know the history of Sean Paul, but the brutha reps Decatur as his hood. So you know the Gyant gots to show him some luv.
