What’s good everybody?
Just when I thought the Don Imus controversy was starting to simmer down, it looks like Jermaine Dupri is putting in his two cents regarding the matter.
In a message posted on his myspace page here’s what the Atlanta mega producer had to say: (I warn you now there are a lot of typos, so try your best to wade through it)
THANK U FOR RESPONDING TO MY BLOG SOME OF YOU SEE IT MY WAY OTHERS DONT FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE ?ING RAP VIDEOS AND OUR MUSIC THIS IS WHAT I SAYWE MAKE CLEAN VERSION OF OUR MUSIC SO THAT WE CAN GET ON THE RADIO WE PLAY BY THE RULES WHAT THAT MAN DID WAS JUS TRY TO GET AWAY WITH SOMTHIN AND SAY FUCK THE RULES THIS IS MY SHOW I CAN DO WHAT I WANT
AND NOW HES TRYIN TO PULL RAP MUSIC DOWN WITH HIM AND YALL ALL KNOW THATS BULLSHIT
NO DRAMA IS ONE THAT THINKS WHAT WE ARE DOIN IS BAD AND I SAY TO YOU WHAT DO THINK THE WHOLE WORLD IS SPOSE TO BE ALIKE ?
I MEAN WHAT THIS PERSON DECIDES TO DO IS NOT WHAT YOUR GONNA DO AND YOU OR I CAN CONTROL THATIF A GIRL WANTS TO DO PORN OR BE IN PLAYBOY ITS HER DECISSION ONCE OUR KIDS GET OF AGE ITS THERE CHOICE TO DO WHAT THEY WANNA DO
PORN IS A BILLION DOLLAR BUISNESS THAT NOBODY ATTACKS CAUSE YALL THAT KEEP TALKIN ABOUT US RAPPERS STILL GO BEHIND DOORS AND BUY THESE MOVIES USE DILDOS AND ALL THAT
BUT USE US AS A SCAPE GOATTHIS HAS NOTHIN TO DO WITH RAP MUSIC THIS HAS TO DO WITH SOMBODY BREAKIN THE RULES FLAT OUT!!!!!!!
I don’t know how in the hell he managed to compare porn to hip-hop, but I digress. I completely disagree with Jermaine on this issue and in a way he’s showing how biased he is with this statement.
I don’t want to attack it too much because you know how myspace pages are. It might not have been him writing this crap, it could have been an entourage member.
You guys tell me if you understand what in the hell he’s talking about.
In other related news…
Jermaine was honored with Songwriter of the year award at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards in L.A. last Wednesday. I had heard about it last week but decided to hold off because our open forum was getting so interesting. Good job J.D.
Oh before I forget….

BIG SHOUT OUT to Janet Jackson who was scheduled to come out to LA Fitness and celebrate their Grand Opening at Atlantic Station. Janet has come by the gym to work out (I personally saw her) and practice dance steps in their dance studio . Though she was a no-show for the Grand Opening, it was still nice that she would even consider it seeing how non-star studded it wasn't.
It’s rumored that LA Fitness is going to be a sponsor on her tour. Yes people Janet is scheduled to hit the road again real soon.
Aiight y'all let me get out of here. Be sure to check back later because I got some good shit to share with ya..I promise!
Talk to ya later,
SoHH Gyant
he wasnt comparing hip hop to porn, he saying girls make themselves. they do porn, but dont want us to call them sluts. wtf?
fuk his short ass! he can go walk under a table
I didn't notice any comparison, it was more of an example than anything else, just like he could use some other thing to exemplify.
Of course you don't understand. Big fucking suprise there. What he said makes perfect sense (exept fot the typos), but then again he's not an English teacher, he's a musician. Do you like hip hop at all? I have questions about you and this site in general. Instead of trying to reel people in with the bullshit captions, why don't y'all try something new- be fucking honest and objective. I've never seen a hip hop hating hip hop site.
Yes, i understood what he was trying 2 convey. There r 2 things i get from it. 1. Society is hypocritical n general. And 2. Rap is the scapegoat 4 all things wrong n society
I don't think jermaine really understand the difference......
I understood what Jermaine was trying to say, but I don't agree with him at all. Someone mentioned that society is hypocrytical as a whole. The problem is that media in general allow too much negativity to be aired out over the airwaves to society. you listen to certain types of music to put you in certain moods. to say that music, movies, t.v. does not influence individuals is crazy. if all you listen to is music about hustlin, pimpin', etc. then your actions will follow as such. Jermaine was talking reckless just as much as Imus was. Bottom line, if our people wouldn't carry themselves in an ignorant manner, than the chances of us having an "imus" saying something like that nationally would be slim. If we keep actin' like fools than it opens up the door for people to treat us as such. Real Talk!
Call me when he compare hip-hop 2 porn....
JD do got a point though and cant nobody blame hip hop for females being degraded by being called sluts, hos, and bitches. Because like my momma say its not what they call you its what you answer to.
truthfully I don't have any idea what that man just said.
Scapegoat is one word. Making all that money and can't spell worth a damn.
JD makes perfect sense your just to fucking retarted to understand. this is the only hip hop site that hates hip hop. fuck sohh
WoW Gyant, u misunderstood his statement. Ms. Sarcasm wrote:
1. Society is hypocritical n general. And 2. Rap is the scapegoat 4 all things wrong n society
and this is correct.
SOHH Midget you missed the point he was trying to make. Either that or you are trying to please massa. If you and other media want to compare racist comments to hip hop then JD has the right to make his own comparisons. You are clearly showing how biased you are with your blog chump.
Go back & read JD's statement again. This time around try hard to do so w/out bias. He does make sense, r u you anti-JD??
We too often blame hiphop for everything wrong with the black community. Don't forget the millions of women crowding nightclub dancefloors gyrating to "bitch betta have my money" or "i need a gangsta bitch". What do we say to those women(black, white, latin, asian, meditteranean. etc. etc.) who do not feel offended by artists saying "hos and bitches"?
We have a right to listen or not, view or not and buy or not. I can't tell a manufacturer not to make a purple shirt because I personally don't like it. I can choose not to buy it but someone else may like a purple shirt.
We cannot censor artists. We can exercise our rights not to buy anything if we do not like it. It is no secret that women call each other hos and bitches. Everytime a nightclub DJ says "where the hos at", tons of women scream and raise their hands. What do we say to that?
Imus was not fired immediately after he made that statement. CBS suspended him, but his suspension was to commence weeks later after ratings week.
He was fired because advertisers withdrew their advertising dollars and prominent guests withdrew their appearances. Economically, CBS had to get rid of him because they started to lose money. So, as we see there is still a lot of work to be done.
hiphop is not to blame......
Gyant, you should try reading with understanding. That's another thing wrong with our people. Seems like a lot of you missed the elementary school class where they taught reading comprehension.
YEA U WERE JUS DA COMPLETELY WRONG PERSON TO ADDRESS HIS STATEMENT...JD was statin that we hav shyt to do with this mann's actions but media alwayz luv to thro us in da mix.if ppl think we degrate women then they really need to blame porn not us...porn got some sickening shyt that they sell and their pornstars and businesses even degrate other ppl (kim kardash-wuteva was a victim) just to make there profits.JD was jus trynna re direct the finger away from us. honestly hip hop n' porn are industries that have their dirt, but u cant just get rid of each of them becuz they are still heavily supported no matter what type of negativity the media will try to shine on them. c'mon GYANT do hav any thought process to breakdown ish for yaself??? im guessin that u only chose to post what JD said and not thro some quotes in of the positive comments that responded to him...u sure do a poor ass job for a lazy person
o yea how u like my typo's hahaha i guess readin JD rubbed off on me lol
U know what the saddest part of all these debates is?
ALL THE WRONG PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING UP
I don't think JD is dumb or stupid but this is a discussion that you really need to think carefully about what you say and how you say it. The problem is those who are speaking up are choosing their words carefully. Also those that should be speaking up won't say sht because their scared of the financial backlash. Jay should have said something by now, but he's not going to cause its bad for business. Like wise for 50, Puffy and all the other millionaire big dawgs in the game. Makes you question who they really represent, what the really stand for, the people or a dollar?
Im not for censorship but Hip hop does need to check itself. and yeah suburban american is contradicting itself pointing the finger at hiphop. But that just means their full of sht too.
We do need to musically diversify the content more. My beef isn't that their shouldn't be negativity in rap but there should be more balance. And we need to stop justifing bullsht we do cross the line.
Like putting non or poorly covered up porn ads in Hip Hop mags that people under the age can purchase. Stop frontin
J.D. makes perfect sense. When is the last time Don Imus purchases a hip-hop/rap cd? For him to hear a hip hop artist use the words "niggas" or "bitches", he would have to of bought an uncensored cd or listen to satelite radio. On fm stations, all music is censored so that younger kids don't hear all the explicit language. America as a whole uses bad language, comedians and actors are known to curse but before you watch a movie it shows you a warning. When you go to buy a cd, it has a warning on the cover as well. So if you don't wish to hear explicit language don't buy it or buy the censored cd. It's as simple as that. As long as young black America continues to make money making hip hop records, white corporate America will hate us. Have you not noticed how much hip hop slaes have decreased? White America is making billions of dollars off of iPods and other download programs and in a way, it is killing hip hop.
blah blah blah more moral equivalent bullshyt from our beloved heroes.
the moment people hold themselves in higher regard and set the tone for the highest example and standards to reach rather than searching for lowest scumbag motherfuxxer standard to use as an excuse maybe we will some growth out of these "artists".
I continue to believe a great deal of them do not have female children.
The Black man can dance around this issue all day... Jermaine Dupree can go out in left field and compare this issue with Porn...
But at the end of the day...
The Black / African woman in America is still the most disrespected and degraded woman all over the world... and the black man is leading the pack in this attack on our character...
No one can make them stop... it has to come from inside of them to want to discontinue the perpturation of disgrace of the black womans image.
JD is right on a lot of levels. im glad he stepped up with a valid point, unlike some of these idoits we have on panels trying to defend us and rap. women are degraded/ and are degrading themselves every where in the world. and alot of these things they keep talking about women do willingly. they get in videos and dance, buy cd's wit bitches and hoes, and answer to men calling them that, and we sit around and call each other that. so stop blaming rappers for females problems they have with themselves and each other
