DJ Drama Talks The Future of Mixtapes!!

DJ Drama is still hawking his new album to anyone who will listen and this time heâ€™s turned his story to Billboard in a recent interview.

He opened up pretty candidly about his arrest situation, among other things.

"A lot of the impact is still up in the air because people are waiting to see what comes of our situation," Drama says of his arrest. "But, I try to look at everything in a positive manner. The mixtape game needs to change for the better. People need to learn from this."

As for rumors that the RIAA arrested Drama for withholding his company's address his CDs, he says, "It was just never something I did. I don't have bar codes on my mixtapes, because that's not what the tapes are for. None of the products that were in Best Buy, FYE or Target came from DJ Drama."

"There's going to have to be some agreement between labels and artists that makes everyone comfortable," Drama says of the copyright gray area mixtapes currently inhabit. "Even if the labels figure out a way of working directly with the DJs to get the mixtapes done by offering an upfront fee that makes sense on their end and on ours. It could create a system that makes mixtapes comfortably buyable."

So there you go. Weâ€™ve all got it straight from the horses mouth.

A lot of people think that the Gyant has a lot of hate towards Tyree and thatâ€™s simply not true. What I will say is that Iâ€™m not wowed by a celebrity on any level. Iâ€™m very clear on what my role in this industry is. Itâ€™s to tell the story as best I can with what Iâ€™m given and what I observe.

In this industry you run into a lot of writers, and media people who will kiss ass no matter what the cost. And I decided long ago that I never wanted to be that kind or reporter/writer/blogger.

Say what you will about blogs, but they have become the main source that everyday people like you and me turn to seeking information. So when Drama and Cannon got pinched for their â€œillegal mix-tapeâ€ ring, I went full steam ahead voicing my opinion about the issue, and as we all know you guys raked me over the coals.

That entire situation taught me a lot of about the power of public opinion, the power of comments and the power of the blog.

man....the reality is that a lot of these labels are payin them at the same time tryin to protect their music...there needs to be a convo on the matter between them to legally make it legitimate...that would make it legal and also indirectly force the dj's to step their game and not just be shouters over records....like they may have to become a Mick Boogie of sorts..ha too much work

Yo, Gyant, for real you are one lame motherfucker. You make it a point in each of your posts to note that you are not some industry suck-up like that gets you a ghetto pass or something. That doesn't make you more black, and it doesn't make you more in touch with music fans. True, there are a lot of Stans in the world, but you aren't distinguishing yourself if your only attribute is that you're not an ass-kisser. This is all trivial, though, because your blogs just suck anyway. What real info did we just gleam from this blog? Drama has something to say to us and if we check out some other media outlets, we might hear what he has to say? You say nothing, then you back up your nothingness posts with some good-intentioned truth at all costs bullshit, but you don't speak the truth, you're recycling all your shit. How about you do a blog that proposes something that can't be answered with a simple yes or no. If you weren't hating on someone, it would be obvious, your low blows and subsequent explanations are some kind of lame. But in your perfectly articulated paragraph, that Iâ€™m sure was intended to express your intelligence, has only reaffirmed that you are as dumb as a box of hair. CNN.com one of the largest media outlets in the world use recycled information on a daily basis. News is news, and though its great to get the story first, the most important thing is to get/tell the story period. I know where the hate comes from. The same way people hate on Jay-Z, the way people hate on Beyonce, Jermaine Dupri, and countless others.

@ Gyant- I must admit that I have come down on your before for one of your posts, however you have a point on this one. You gave the news and we came to read it. Like you said the numbers don't lie. At the end of the day you still are going to get paid regardless if they like the product or not. Its not easy being a journalist- I say put some of these e-thugs to the test. Its obvious that you are being challenged so accept it.
