April 2007 Archives

rkelly.jpg

I got a new song from Chester himselfâ€"R.Kelly. This new track just dropped on the Internet Friday and I got it for y’all to check out.

R. Kelly used to be the best in the game but he’s getting progressively worse. Never mind his looming child molestation charges, this song is just whack if you ask me.

ti1.jpg

We all remember the much talked about physical feud TI had with Houston rapper Lil Flip right? If you don’t remember it all that much, Tip talked about it candidly on popular radio stationâ€"107.9 having this to say:

DJMARS.jpg

Whose one of the most popular DJ’s other then DJ Drama and DJ Cannon that’s making a serious impact in the industry? I got two words for youâ€"DJ Mars!

Yesterday I sat down to have a chat with the President of the The World Famous Superfriends organization which includes such creative DJ’s like DJ Doc, DJ Tayrok, DJ Shakim, DJ Special T, DJ Mad Linx and Frank Ski. And like any good blogger worth their own salt; I edited the video and got it uploaded for everybody to check out before the weekend hits. Find out more after the jump.

Gucci Mane Takes A Leak!!

guccimane.jpg

Ok well since some of you didn’t take too kindly of my critical opinion of Russell. Perhaps some free music might make a few of you happy.

Gucci Mane
(in my opinion) is one of the most slept on southern rappers in the game. He's got a new album out, but nobody seems to care. I've got two leaked tracks from his Chicken Talk Mixtape. But more on that after the jump!

russell-chavis.jpg

No Disrespect but I wish Russell Simmons would sit his ass down somewhere. As if he hasn’t been in the media enough lately, now he’s turning his “hip-hop savior” efforts towards Atlanta public schools.

In a press release that I just received (well two days ago), one of the founding fathers of Hip-Hop is coming to the jewel of the south to supposedly curve the 33-50% dropout rate.

Here is a snippet from the press release:

ti.jpg

TI is addressing all the hoopla surrounding his genre of music and according to the pint sized rapper, we’ve got bigger problems other then hip-hopâ€"George Bush!

CIARA%20BREAKS%20IT%20DOWN1.JPG

Like Mystical Said:

Shake it fast,
Watch yaself,
Shake it fast
Show them what you working with

Ciara broke it down recently at a concert. I saw it online and thought I’d show it to ya.

I have met CiCi a few times and though from afar she may have some "manish" qualities, when she’s right in front of you, she is truly a beautiful girl.

Here’s to you Ciara. Check out all the ass shakin after the jump.

seanp.jpg

What’s good everybody?

So I can’t say that I didn’t see this coming. Sean Paul (Of the hip hop duo The YoungBloodZ) has officially changed his name to Sean P in anticipation of the summer 2007 release of his debut solo disc on Jive Records.

usda.jpg

Now that everyone seems to be cracking down on offensive music lyrics does new ATL groupâ€"USDAâ€"have a chance in hell of getting their music on the radio?

When word broke that Young Jeezy had formed a new group with southern rappers Slick Pulla and Blood Raw it sparked a buzz in the streets. However, post Don Imus many are questioning if there is a place for the eclectic trio on the billboard charts and on radio.

LUDACRISPHI.jpg

It looks like Ludacris is sill trying to promote his current album Release Therapy, by dropping another video.

I haven’t done a poppin or floppin video in a minute. Check out the Grammy award winning rapper after the jump!

T.I

I can’t express how hyped I am to hear TI’s new CD.

Though it seems that his new song “Big Shit Poppin” has many on the fence, I think T.I. is one of the tightest rappers currently on the charts today. *Please note, I didn’t say the best ever*.

And it’s apparent that his playalistic southern style has transcended cultural boundaries as is shown in his new commercials for Chevrolet. Check them out!

RS.jpg

Hot damn look what a little persuasion can do? The main page on SoHH.com posted a story on Russell Simmons and The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network urging the recording industry and media outlets to censor misogynistic lyrics and racist terms from future recordings.

I got say to that I am very surprised at how swiftly the industry has swooped down on the culture as a whole.

nyoil.jpg

I’m not bigging up NYC, up north hip-hop or nothing like that. But at this point Hip-Hop is under the gun and I’m not going to play into the regional bullshit.

Once shit gets good again and the world gets off our backs, then we can go back to business as usual. But this kat’s got a message that we all need to hear.

In The wake of all the negativity towards Hip-Hop I thought that I’d post a video from my dude, and prominent rapper from NYCâ€"NYOil. This kat has been doing his thing for a min.

If you never heard his song "Y'all should all Get Lynched" you need to. It's a tight song with a strong message. Just listen to the man's words. Forget the fact that he's from NYC, he's spewing some REAL shit!! Find out more after the jump!

jdascap.jpg

What’s good everybody?

Just when I thought the Don Imus controversy was starting to simmer down, it looks like Jermaine Dupri is putting in his two cents regarding the matter.

SOHHPIC.jpg

The comments have been crazy regarding the “Hip-Hop Is In Desperate Need Of A Change!!!!” post. And I’ve been reading every comment. Some people got the point, others missed the point entirely, and some people just got way off topic.

But the most important thing is that we’ve opened dialogue and that’s one of the most important aspect of this entire controversy.

There were so many comments about the current state of Hip-Hop that I decided to post a few.

Da Brat's No Sell Out!!

cfcbrat.jpg

Here is the last video on Da Brat! I’m sure by now most of y’all are sick of me talking about her, but what can I sayâ€"I’m a fan.

If you haven’t heard, Brat will be on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club this season, and when word first broke that she had signed on to be a contestant, many looked at her choice to be a step down, and a mockery of hip-hop.

But to that Brat, has some stern words to dish out to all the haters. Watch the video!

Shawna.jpg

On April 10th I informed you all that Disturbing the Peace recording artists Shawnna had been dropped. At that point in time I couldn’t confirm the rumor.

However, my girl, Miss Info from Hot 97 just emailed me the official word straight from the horses mouth herself.

jazzy.jpg

What’s good everybody,

Shout out to Juanita for hooking me up with this information. I’m posting the MySpot Thursday on Wednesday this week because its going down at E.S.S.O. tomorrow night and I want everybody to have enough time to make plans to attend.

BMI will present an urban music showcase featuring some of the country's most promising new talent. The showcase will be held on Thursday, April 19 at E.S.S.O. (1599 Memorial Drive) and will be hosted by artist/producer Jazze Pha along with Atlanta's Hot 107.9's Rashaan Ali.

tipscreamtour.jpg

Sandra Rose just broke word on her entertainment website that T.I. will be headlining the 6th installment of the wildly successful SCREAM Tour series.

Apparently a well placed source leaked the information to her and like any good blogger worth their own salt would do. She posted it immediately.

However, when I placed a call to Mauldin Brand Agency a few moments ago I was informed that the official word is “no comment”. So you know what that means.

I’ve been seriously thinking about this Don Imus situation. I’ve been mulling over the notion of talking about it, because I for one don’t agree with Imus being fired.

As a young African-American male in today’s society, I get called worse things by own people then “nappy headed hoe”. And though being addressed as niccas has never personally bothered me, I can understand how non black people feel that they can disrespect us, or try to be inclusive in our constant disrespect for one another.

pastortroy.jpg

I'm sure you’ve all heard about the tragic shooting in North Carolina that left officer Sean Clark and Jeffery Shelton murdered.

But the reports from the media and police tried to link the shooting to Pastor Troy and his music. Because apparently the shooter was listening to his single, “Murda Man“ shortly before the shooting.

Is Rich Squad doing their thing in the ATL?

I recently ran into the members of undaground hip-hop record labelâ€"Rich Squad and the fellas took time to kick it and politik it with me for a moment.

They informed me that they currently have a couple of tracks on V103 and Hot 107.9 and though they all fall under one group they are doing their own things individually.

COLLABO.jpg

While the verdict on the Gyant vs. public opinion still remains shaky, I decided to post some free music for you guys.

I had so much of it that I couldn’t allow anymore to collect in my inbox.

Check out the free downloads From Lloyd, T-Pain, and Rich Boy!!

ludacris1.jpg

First it was Bow Wow, Crime Mob, and MIMS who dissed Atlanta. And, now it’s looking like Ludacris is doing the same thing as he as just announced his new tour dates and ATL is nowhere on the itinerary.

Now I’m not trying to spew hate or disrespect. However, I do feel very passionately that if you’re an artist, and you’re from any major city, or at least claim it as home. Then you need to make sure that when you hit the road to promote your album, and don’t be mistakenâ€"that’s what a tour is all about, that your home city is added to the respective dates.

ti.jpg

Finally, T.I.’s new song has dropped and I like it!

I know a lot of kats argue over who’s the tighest MC in ATL, and though I won’t comment as to who I think is the best, I do think that TI is in easily in the top 5. Fuck thatâ€"the Top three!!

WHERE%20THERES%20SMOKE%20THERES%20FIRE%20AND%20THATS%20ALL%20IM%20GONNA%20SAY.JPG

Every since Brat stepped onto the Hip-Hop scene back in 1994, her sexuality has been a hot topic. Her blatant masculine mannerisms and inability to ever produce an actual boyfriend to be by her side has constantly raised eyebrows.

I’m sure everyone heard about the alleged love affair between her and Total group memberâ€"Pam. But no matter what people have said about Da Brat ,she has never spoken publicly about it until now.

And I was there with my camera rolling......

Friday night Da Brat came out to celebrate her Birthday party at Club Miami. And, things got very interesting to say the least. From tearing up the stage, to embracing the gay community (particularly the lesbian community), I’ve got some video(s) that’s guaranteed to have you staring in astonishment!

Ok I know the light is horrible in this video clip, but Fabo from D4L did show SoHH.com some love so I decided to still go with it. To be fair, when I shot the video it appeared to be fine on camera. Oh, well it is what it is right?

Ryan Cameron Step Show 2007 Part I!

What’s good everybody,

So last night I attended popular Radio Personality, Ryan Cameron’s, “OL Skool Nu Skool” step show event that was held at the Civic center.

The top fraternities, and sororities came out to represent their letters to the fullest. So you know the most popular greeks like the Q-Dogs’s, Sigma’s, Alphas, Delta’s, Kappa’s, etc, were all in attendance.

MYA.jpg

What’s good everybody,

It’s going down tonight at Sugar Hill Underground Atlanta. Mya and The Clipse are rolling into town on the Seagram's Live Tour.

You know Hot 107.9 gets it poppin so make sure you get out tonight if ya can.

Hoopz2.jpg

We all remember her from the first season of the hit reality show Flavor of Love, and though her bullshit ass romance with the gold grilled wonder is over, as you can see she is still banging!

I got these pictures emailed to me last night from an old photo shoot she did with Blackmen Magazine, but I know a lot of people haven’t seen them, so here you go.

br_logo_color_web.jpg

What’s good everybody?

Yo I’ve decided to launch my very first contest giveaway courtesy of Loud.com and Battle Rap.

Hip-hop finally has its own version of successful online communities like YouTube, MySpace and various game sites with the debut of Battle Rap, a contest which will be launched on the legendary www.loud.com site as well as www.battlerap.com. The project is a Joint venture with SRC Records and Pure Games. Entrepreneur Joseph Safina, along with hip-hop legend Steve Rifkind and Rich Isaacson will spearhead the site

CONCERTBULLSHIT.jpg

So what is wrong with this picture? It was announced on Monday that MIMS, Crime Mob and Bow Wow were hitting the road to support their albums and hopefully pull in some cash since their records aren’t selling. But, when I looked at the dates and locations, I didn’t see Atlanta on the list anywhere. What’s up with that?

BOBBY%20VALENTINO.jpg

Whether you’re a fan of this blog or not you all know I have certain disdain for Mr. Bobby Valentino. And though some people often times classify me as a hater, I’m here to tell you all that’s just not true.

While my feelings towards Mr. Valentino may not be the best, his video for his second single (first official), “Anonymous” is out and I got to admit, it’s kinda hot. I’ve selected it for this weeks Poppin or Floppin video.

project.jpg

I am not sure if I told you all about A3C Independent Hip-Hop Festival (April 12-14) that’s poppin off later on this week.

If you aren’t aware the festival serves up a diverse lineup of more than two dozen acts. In addition to impressive local and regional artists like Psyche Origami (Friday) and Collective Efforts (Saturday), here are a few other don't-miss acts:

If you frequent the Midtown to Downtown area then you’ve had to open up a Sunday Paper. And in this weeks edition they have compiled a list of the Top 40 celebrity mover and shakers of the jewel of the south’s music scene.

Surprisingly there are more then just celebrities on this list which was created by my dude Kevin Forest Moreau.

apachecrowd.jpg

36. APACHE CAFÉ
Its former incarnation, the Yin Yang Café, was the city's neo-soul capitol, helping to launch stars like India.Arie and Anthony David. Apache puts its own spin on that tradition as Atlanta's nexus of quality soul, hip-hop and spoken-word performers.

SHAWNNA.jpg

First it was the gay rapperâ€"Chingy and now it looks like Shawnna is Ludacris’s latest victim.

The internet is a buzz over a recent rumor that Disturbing tha Peace Recording artists Shawnna has been dropped by Ludacris and the DTP Family.

In a supposed statement from Ludacris, this is what he had to say about the situation:

“Shawnna is a very talented artist but is no longer rocking with DTP''

Ok, now we all know Danity Kane’sâ€"Wanita, AKA D.Woods, got a phat ass right, so why she aint showing it in none of these pictures that are in the new King Magazine?

I had the opportunity to talk to ole girl at that damn Young Jeezy event a few months ago(yea I’m still slightly bitter about that shit) and I got to say though she aint much in the face, her back is stackedâ€" big time. I was like dayum…… She’s also a sweet girl too.

T.I.%20-%20Hip%20Hop%20Weekly%20-%20Volume%202%20Issue%207%20-%20May%202007%20-%20Cover.jpg

Who was the first person to break the story on TI and Tiny? That’s right me, and is anybody giving me any credit for it? HELL NO!! That’s how this business is. Sometimes, it can be one of the most grimiest and cut throat businesses out there.

Oh well I aint tripping because all this does is add to my plight that blogging will soon take over newsstands and publications sooner then people realize.

DJ%20KAH.jpg

Damn everybody calm down! I been getting tons of emails from people pissed off because I hadn’t posted the new video by DJ Khaled feat. TI, Rick Ross, Akon, and LiL Wayne.

I figured that since it was shot in Miami and DJ Khaled is also a Miami DJ (on Power 99), that our Miami blog would have handled this one. But to be honest, I’m not sure if we even have a Miami blog anymore. Do we, yo Miami blog where you at?

SOHH Atlanta MySpot Thursday!!

ugk_outkast.jpg

Outkast needs to stop playing and get their asses back into the studio and drop some new music. I can’t think of any other rap group that hypes me like they do.

I’m sure everybody has been hearing about the break up rumors that constantly surround the pioneering duo. But by the sounds of this new track with UGK they are as right as rain.

I’m bringing it to you all for a free download. Hurry up before it’s gone.

ushertameka1.jpg

I got exclusive word just moments ago from a very reliable source that all the hoopla surrounding Usher and his new fiancée is absolutely untrue. It seems that Sandra Rose has been victim to a horrible April Fool’s Joke.

I usually tend to look at headlines a lot harder around this time of year because some people are relentless and will use this holiday to try and destroy your credibility in this game.

So please read this post for entertainment purposes and entertainment purposes ONLY!

Notice how everyone has been talking about Tameka Foster’s and Usher’s love child, yet I haven’t said anything about it until now. At this point who the hell cares, I know I don’t. But, I know some of you all might, so this is what my good friend Sandra Rose (who broke the exclusive) had to say:

Ok, so I thought I would take a break from the news today and give all the fans of SoHH Atlanta a treatâ€"free music!

That’s right y’all, ya boy has brand new music from today’s top artists including some tracks from ATL’s talent pool. I got songs from Ciara, Polow Da Don, Lupe Fiasco, Omarion, Usher, Fabulous, this new hot rapper from Miami, Sean Kingston, the list goes on.

djdrama.jpg

DJ Drama is still hawking his new album to anyone who will listen and this time he’s turned his story to Billboard in a recent interview.

He opened up pretty candidly about his arrest situation, among other things.

"A lot of the impact is still up in the air because people are waiting to see what comes of our situation," Drama says of his arrest. "But, I try to look at everything in a positive manner. The mixtape game needs to change for the better. People need to learn from this."

polow.jpg

While Polow Da Don has received massive success producing such great songs by artists like Fergie, Ludacris, Jaime Foxx, Ciara, Young Buck, etc. When word spread that former D.C. member, and aspiring solo artist Kelly Rowland was teaming up with the hot producer, a buzz immediately ignited.

However the end result isn’t as inspiring as one might have hoped for. Kelly’s new song “Like This” feat Eve is about as bad as you can get, and in today’s music scene with numerous lackluster artists to pick from, that’s saying a whole lot.

Buck_The_World.JPG

I decided to post the sales figures for this week since we’ve got so much southern comfort on the charts.

Here are the estimated sales as follows brought to you by hitsdailydouble.com

info4.jpg

What’s good everybody?

Ok, so since Glenwood Day was cancelled due to the weather, among to ever other things. I wasn’t able to bring you all the pictures and video that I had planned. However, I did get an interesting email from a friend regarding one of Atlanta’s favorite lyricist Chris “Ludacris” Bridges

AJC blogger Elizabeth Cobb caught up with him before he performed at this years ‘Big Dance’ event. Luda opened up about his love of basketball, basketball, and didn’t I mention basketball?

Here’s what he had to say

Johnta Austin=Hits,Not Showmanship!

JOHNTA.jpg

Ok, so I went to the NCAA “Big Dance” event on Saturday to watch Ludacris and Johnta Austin perform. But, unfortunately I missed Luda setting the stage on fire (I mean that figuratively of course) due to my inability to maneuver around all the damn people.

From what I heard from SOHH SOULFUL who flew into town over the weekend to do some work with DTP/ Def Jam recording artist Bobby Valentino, Hey Bobby, Oscar Winner Forrest Whitaker dropped by to watch Ludacris do his thing and of course everybody went ape shit. My girl Amina who was also visiting from Jersey expressed to me how amazed she was by the locals love for Luda.

When my black ass finally got there, Johnta Austin had just hit the stage. After putting the smack down on one particular security guard for giving me a hard time with my media credentials I got to the stage just in time to get some video footage.

In case you all don’t know, Johnta is from Southwest Atlanta. He’s written super hits for artists like Aaliyah, Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Tyrese, Chris Brown, and countless others. So though I had missed Ludacris, I felt that Johnta was a nice consolation prize, but boy was I wrong.
