SOHH Gyant's Randomness: BET'S Spring Bling Travels To My Old Stomping Ground!!!

If you weren’t aware this year, BET decided to take “Spring Bling” 2007 even further south to the hood and my ole stomping ground-Riviera Beach, FL. There isn’t much difference between West Palm Beach and Riviera. There considered by most to be the same city. The only difference between the two cities is skin color. I aint gonna lie Riviera Beach is the hood. You only go there to get ya dime or nickel bags of weed, or to go get a good ass hair cut.
Anyway, BET touched down there last weekend for their yearly spring event where the likes of Lloyd, Omarion, Rich Boy, Tigga, former America’s Next Top Model contestant Toccarra, Bobby Valentino, Pretty Ricky, and other semi famous celebrities came out to support the fleeting broadcasting station.
(My arch nemesis Bobby Valentino touched down in the sunshine state.)
I say fleeting because I can’t think of the last time I’ve even watched BET. To call the station that I grew up on “corny” doesn’t quite capture how lame it has actually become. I’d rather eat glass then watch the ridiculous knock off version of MTV’s TRL, and don’t get me started on that bullshit ass “College Hill”.
Gone are the days of Video Soul, and the real Rap City. How I miss Tavis Smiley’s nightly news program, black news coverage period, Ananda Lewis holding down Teen Summit and countless other programs that were the very fabric of black entertainment television. Now all BET has become is a broke down MTV but with a darker skinned audience. Whatever happened to that sexy ass Rachel Stuart who held down Caribbean Rhythms? Man how I miss the good ole days.
At any rate, I was supposed to fly down to Florida and catch up with some my sohh.com family members but as you all know, I caught a case and that completely sidelined my trip (which was just thrown out by the judge due to my fantastic attorney.) And I have to be honest with you, after almost two weeks of the event ending; I haven’t heard anything about it. And that’s never a good thing!
After looking at some of the pictures on various blogs, and websites I can really see why. Check out the pictures and see for yourself. Would attend an event like this if it ever came to Atlanta?

On a personal note, I really would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you guys for supporting SOHH.com, our blogs, and me, as we continue to make a major impact on Hip-Hop and media. I know that I can be a hard pill to swallow at times, but I have a blast posting topics for you all to dissect each and everyday. I enjoy each and every comment good or bad, and find myself logging onto the site 10X a day to see who is saying what about whom.
When I was offered this writing/entertainment opportunity, I was excited and nervous all at the same time. The content that I report on SOHH Atlanta is very different from the content that I put on my urban entertainment site O1LT.com. I will admit that I stumble, and will probably continue to stumble as I try to broaden what SOHH Atlanta is all about. I strongly believe that we are more then what people think we are here in Atlanta. And though, I wasn’t born or raised here. I have a high respect for what this city is all about. I have traveled the world and been a lot of places in my time. But, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else on the planet other then the good ole ATL.
I just felt like sharing my appreciation, because SOHH Atlanta constantly gets solid numbers and our ranking amongst the other SOHH Blogs are always consistently positive.
I couldn’t do any of it without you guys, and I really appreciate it.

That was my old stommping grounds too, for real, and i was right on the borderline, 45th St. & Australian Ave. and yes it is known for good ass weed, and nice cuts....And you r right about BET going down the drain. Yea I know the area you used to live in. I aint going to even front, I used to stay out in Royal Palm Beach right with the white folks. I had a spot out there off of State Road 7 but I would put hella miles on my whip (that’s a car for those who don’t know) driving around West Palm, Laudy, and Miami.

Yeah its fucked up that the Governor of Geogia would make a statement like that. I mean we all know that racism is alive and kicking but at least they try to hide it more these days. When you take a look at how everything is set up it is just modern day slavery now. All of the laws are biased against blacks. Which in turn fills the prisons with blacks and most of them are privately owned now, so they make money off of our incarceration and make you do free labor while you are locked up. On top of that if check in major city in America they are tearing down black neighborhoods and building high price housing so that the people who originally lived there cannot move back. Its just a smart way of segregating the community, gentrification I think is the term.
On top of that the only network we have for our people makes us look like coons. Viacom took over and now there's no BET nightly news or Tavis Smiley. I guess that those shows had opinions and views that were to strong. Damn we losing all around the board.
