What in the hell is Tony thinking? First off, before my usual haters start in on me, I know this has nothing to do with Atlanta. But sometimes shit happens in other parts of the world that I just simply cant ignore. But arrested for smacking a 14 year old? WTF? Not cool at all Tony. Sure a lot of people see the parties and step shows and what not but a LOT of work goes on behind the scenes that most don't know about unless they are in an organization. You also that have those that join to try to be somebody. If you are nobody before the frat you are a nobody after the frat, you just have on some letters. Granted these organizations aren't for everyone but they really are a great help for society.

Although strongly expressed, he does however have a point. I went to college and although some do help the community, the purpose of these organizations have long since diminished. In fact, so many chapters were banned nationwide because of violence and these hazings where some of the kids end up dead, that many campuses had to recruit on the low low.

I agree that you do not need a frat/sorority to have an identity, but maybe it's time we put the issue on front-street and get things back to where they should.

THE 20 YEAR ENEMY

Atlanta,GA(ME). Last night hip-hop truly lived in the ATL. Club Sugarhill in Atlanta's Underground played host to the last leg of US tour 57 for hip-hop icons Public Enemy.
The show included a performances by tour mates XCLAN. Lead by the ever lyrical Brother J, the Clan rocked the classics and hot joints off their new release "Return from Mecca".
Hosted by an MC named Jahi, who kept the crowd thoroughly entertained between sets, the show also featured local acts. Illanotics, Hifi, Crew Girl Order, and Dirty South all added the homegrown feel for the natives.
But this night was about 20 years of Public Enemy. And they delivered one of their most high octane perfomances in years. They crowd of about 600 hundred were treated to a non stop two hour marathon of hits.
PE still takes the stage like no one else. The crowd mixed with teenagers and baby boomers were reminded were that haunted siren, that Jay z used on "Show me What you Got", came from. And what it's original purpose was. Then to show that they know a hot track when they here it they let Jay's instrumental ride as Professor Griff and the S1W's hit the stage and did their drill steps.
By the time Chuck D and Flav hit the stage to "Welcome to the Terrordome", the already juiced house went into a frenzy.
Halfway through the show , just when you thought you were going to get a second to catch your breath and save your voice PE brung out Scorpio and members of the Furious 5. The recent Hall of Fame inductees got thunderous applause and told the crowd they can't wait to be joined by Public Enemy.
The tributes didn't stop has legend after legend hit the stage including DJ Hurricane, DJ Red Alert among others. Then it was time for the Lord. Atlanta's own DJ Lord did a set on the one's and two's that was just liquid hot magma! This was what a DJ was supposed to be.
After the marathon "break" if you could call it that PE returned center stage with another dose of songs from every album culminating with Fight The Power of course. The only shock the happily exhuasted crowd had to endure was when song went into the original version by the Isley Brothers and was led by one the security guys who sung his black boots off.
It was a beautiful night indeed. The slight dissapointment was that none of the young artist that PE made a point shoutout (T.I., Outkast, Ludacris, etc.) was on hand. However I did spot the Brat back stage rocking with the show. Public Enemy continues there 20 year anniversary as tour 57 heads to Europe for a month on Friday. Fight The Power!

Brother, you don't know me or my background, my family has been involved in frats and sororoties for 3 generations, so you shouldn't proclaim to know what I do or do not know, understand me?

The problem with many "Greek Organizations" is that aren't handling their business and they are nothing more than social clubs for people with identity issues and low self-asteem to get together and build some false sense of superiority amongst the same people they should be embracing.

You need to do your research and read a book like the "Isis Papers" by Dr. Francis Cress Wellsing. Get some true knowledge of self and realize that young people should be aspiring to be warriors and soldiers so they can overcome the racism in America that is designed to destroy them, not Greeks. But,I know ya'll are just using the Greek letters to define your organization but even that is illogical because there are Afrocentric symbols that an exclusive African-American organization could/should use to define itself, not the symbols of cave men who stole knowledge from Africa and is passing it off as their own.

I'm sure the grad school experience is probably more in line with the orginal intentions of founding members, but unfortunately it seems as if the majority of the frats and sororoties have lost the ideals in which they were founded rendering them to be for the most part counter-productive.

You say you read the Isis Papers, how many times did you read it? I'm re-reading it now after I read it in college because I couldn't fully understand everything Dr.Wellsing was saying, I truly believe that book is the key to combat racisim as it helps you understand the mentality behind racism and once you understand the high illogical behavior of racism you can overcome it.

Each frat and sororoty are only as good as the people who make them up, I guess my problem isn't so much with the organization itself, it's the people who populate the organizations.
