March 2007 Archives

shawn%20j.jpg

Just as I ended my legal woes, Shawn J from Field Mob got himself pinched in Jacksonville Florida on March 27. Sorry for the late report, but hey it is what it is.

Shawn was allegedly arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest. But for what exactly is unclear, how the police got involved with one half Field Mobb in the first place. While the nature of the crime is a mystery, what is known is that because of the nature of the charges, he's not eligible for bail in Duvall County

With Jaime Foxx in town this weekend and the NCCA Final Four Tournament also coming to the jewel of the south, ATL is going be off the chain like usual this weekend. There’s a lot going on and with that said, I’ve got a listings of all the events this weekend in today’s "City Guide."

Tomorrow night A/G entertainment has Jaime Foxx bringing the party to The Compound off of Brady Ave.If you're not sure where it is, it's over there by the popular eatery Chow Baby's on the industrial side of town off of Howell Mill. The complete address is 1008 Brady Ave.

JAIMEFOX.jpg

If you weren’t aware this year, BET decided to take “Spring Bling” 2007 even further south to the hood and my ole stomping ground-Riviera Beach, FL. There isn’t much difference between West Palm Beach and Riviera. There considered by most to be the same city. The only difference between the two cities is skin color. I aint gonna lie Riviera Beach is the hood. You only go there to get ya dime or nickel bags of weed, or to go get a good ass hair cut.

Anyway, BET touched down there last weekend for their yearly spring event where the likes of Lloyd, Omarion, Rich Boy, Tigga, former America’s Next Top Model contestant Toccarra, Bobby Valentino, Pretty Ricky, and other semi famous celebrities came out to support the fleeting broadcasting station.

(My arch nemesis Bobby Valentino touched down in the sunshine state.)

ti_l.jpg\

What’s good? I’m going to post the remaining snippet from this article that I found on one of Atlanta’s most popular artstsâ€"T.I.

But first I got to address something about some recent comments people have been making towards my news reporting ability.

Seeing that I live in the same city as the legendary Sandra Rose, often times we travel in virtually the same entertainment circles and have a lot of the same contacts. That also means that we often times share the same news.

It’s no different from other bloggers like Angel and Brian from Concreteloop.com, Fresh from Crunk & Disorderly, Myra from Panachereport.com, Clay from ClayCane.net, PJ from TheHipHopPublicist.blogspot.com, Tasha from ybf.blogspot.com, etc!

Y’all need to get over the notion that news is some how reserved for one media outlet, because I can assure you its not. If I’m walking down the street and I see TI getting arrested (knock on wood) don’t you think that within an hour V103, HOT107.9, 95.5 The Beat, Sandra, The AJC, and others won’t be talking about it?

It just doesn’t make much sense if you think about it. It’s always good to break the story, but it’s always most important to tell the story.

I’ve said my peace about it; now let’s get back to T.I.

ti_l.jpg

Though T.I.’s personal life may be a bit shaky with the unfortunate bereavement he and Tiny are enduring. His professional career is thriving. Not only has Clifford (that’s his real name in case you weren’t aware) has reaped the benefits of multiple platinum plaques, endorsement deals and a bevy of musical acknowledgements, including Grammys.

He’s also hard at work signing artists to his semi-popular “Grand Hustle Records”, (The mix-tape king DJ Drama, is on Grand Hustle.) and producing films with his up and coming motion picture Production Company - Grand Hustle Films. And if that’s not enough already, he is also hard at work in the studio putting the finishing touches on his fourth coming album “T.I. vs. T.I.P”. due to hit store in June.

Entertainment Weekly writer Ethan Brown had the prestigious opportunity to sit in the studio and absorb a piece of Timbaland’s beat skills, and T.I.’s lyrical ability.

King of beats and hits, Timbaland, touched down in ATL recently while on tour with Justin Timberlake. And he wasted no time getting into arguably the best rapper of the south’s studio to make so music history.

Here’s a snippet from the article:

''I got almost 60 songs already,'' T.I. announces, reeling off the names of big-name producers (Wyclef Jean and Mannie Fresh among them) who have already contributed beats to his new release. Then T.I. plays snippets from several of the tracks he's completed, including a fierce collaboration with Southern superstars Lil' Wayne and Young Jeezy. ''Whoo!'' Tim cries, nodding his head to the beat. ''Them n---as is a problem. Ya'll should start a group together.''

tiandtiny.jpg

Last week I shared with you all the most heart breaking news I’ve ever had to share with an audience. While most people who read blogs look at it as entertainment, I try my best to put soul into my work. When I first heard about Tiny’s unfortunate news I was really torn because though I wanted to break the story, I had to decide what price was I willing to pay for sharing such private, if not the most ultimately private news there is.

Though I shared the story with my audience (you guys) I walked the tight rope of sharing the tragic news enough but not too much. I believe that I effectively balanced my bloggeristic integrity while also sharing the story.

What disappointed me the most was the outrageous comments that were made towards the loss of a life. While I can understand that this blog has become the place to hate, and spew venom towards various subject matters, I would like to think that we all have a filter in ourselves that would allow human decency to shine through.

At the end of the day we all have a mother or a sister and a miscarriage is the toughest thing a woman will ever have to deal in life. If something negative pops in your head today regarding the Hip-Hop couple, think about the women in your life and try to make a better choice and not post.

KILLA.jpg

I’m sure you all heard about the beat down that happened between former Purple Ribbon artist Killa Mike, and Purple Ribbon owner Antwan “Big Boi” Patton.

There has been rumored beef over Killa and Big Boi. But over what I’m not exactly sure. What is known is that their beef reached a fever pitch this weekend at a children’s event.

Right on the heels of a nationwide debate on the state of Hip-Hop today, it seems that with two unfortunate situations this past weekend in ATL, hip-hop is all fucked up and is showing no progress whatsoever.

My girl and super producer of the Frank Ski and Wanda Morning Show, Nina Brown, emailed me this exclusive audio of Killa Mike calling in to V103 yesterday morning to discuss what happened, but here’s the interesting thingâ€"he didn’t speak on what happened exactly!

But thankfully for us he didn’t have to because one of our regular posters DJ Oktoba spilled it all for us in one of his comments yesterday saying:

TONYYAYO.jpg

What in the hell is Tony thinking? First off, before my usual haters start in on me, I know this has nothing to do with Atlanta. But sometimes shit happens in other parts of the world that I just simply cant ignore. But arrested for smacking a 14 year old? WTF? Not cool at all Tony. It just proves how much of a bitch you really are.

DGYola.jpg

It seems that the beautiful weather had everybody out their house this weekend, including the car robbers.

It’s being reported that Atlantic Artist DG Yola , got served a gun shout wound that’s reminiscent of 50 cent’s legendary criminal attack.

While the details are sketchy at the moment, what is known is that Yola (Da Great) was shot in the face after robbers tried to hijack his luxury automobile. The unknown assailants released gun shots into the car as DG Yola sat a red light that reportedly entered one side of his cheek and exited the other. Yola is in stable condition at an Atlanta area hospital.

jagged_edge.jpg

Quick, can anyone remember when the last time Jagged Edge had a hit? Exactly, I can’t either because they never really had a hit.

The group that burst on the music scene almost eleven years ago have had more chances then Foxxy Brown to get their career on track. Yet after many failed attempts they still seem to give chance after chance, after chance.

Although I can’t seem to find a positioning for Young Buck’s new song “Get Bucked” on any music charts, apparently he’s looking on with a new reality show. This video is making its rounds around the net. It’s displaying Young Buck’s ability to rock with the white people, etc.

TINY.jpg

It is with great sadness that I have to be the bearer of such unfortunate news. However, I have received numerous emails, and phone calls from creditable sources of a very discerning nature.

monica.jpg

The event that nobody cared about…

Monica and Shaq O’Neal
held an event that at The Compound Tuesday, March, 20th.

It was a celebrity silent auction to benefit some damn celebrity cause to assist with the helpless, homeless, autistic, bald, HIV, child abandonment, feed an African, save a refugee, donate some blood, and give a spleen (you get the idea).

Keri Hilson: The Real Deal Or What?

POLO%20DA%20DON%20WITH%20NEW%20INTERSCOPE%20ARTIST1.JPG

Ok since I butchered her name terribly in one of last weeks posts, I thought I would dedicate a post to the new up and coming Atlanta bred Keri. After years of doing her thing behind the music scene I think its time we all get to know who Keri Hilson is.

She’s been at all the Atlanta events lately. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the BET Hip-Hop Awards back in November, as well as Rich Boy’s Dolce event last week.

Shout to Lloyd and Rich Boy for doing their thing(s) on this weeks billboard charts. Now I don’t have the official numbers in yet, but I can comfortably say that Lloyd’s new album came in at number 2 and Rich Boy came in right behind him at number 3.

This is huge news for both artists, because after leaving The Inc and also facing the possible sophomore jinx, Decatur’s shining star could have easily fallen into obscurity. However, he came with it with a tight album and an even tighter first and second single, “You”, and “Get It Shawty” Now I know that some of y’all will comment that Lloyd is still apart of The Inc, but please that business relationship is a wrap, trust me!!!

Top 5 Reasons Why Hip-Hop Is Dead!!

HIPHOPDED.jpg

My Girl Queen Princess did an interesting female perspective on why many argue the fatality of Hip-Hop. As you all know this debate is always a good one. When I read her shit, I was impressed at how well she put her thoughts down.

It’s pretty dope. I wonder why we don’t see more women in Hip-Hop. I remember when Foxx Boggie, Kim, and Da Brat were all on the scene, the shit was getting a little exciting. Hell even Angie Martinez looked promising for a minute…I said a minute.

Here’s her shit, check it out.

After weeks of searching the internet I finally got that CNN special on Hip-Hop: Is it Art or Poison. As you all know everybody in the Hip-Hop community has been talking about this special that aired back in February.

Chopper City Out On Bail!!!

kevin%2Bbarnes.jpg

Where in the hell have I been? Has anyone else heard about this shit?

Kevin Barnes, Jr., also known as "Chopper" and "Young City" from MTV's Making the Band Season I & II posted $100,000 bail on Aggravated Assault charges in Gwinnett County, Georgia last week (week of 2/26/07). Young City's new record label, Diamon-Cut Ent., posted the $100,000 bond and through its legal representative Julian Sanders, was instrumental in mounting a defense to what many feel are baseless and frivolous charges. Young City, in a show of sincere gratitude, commented,

"Diamon-Cut came through for me when it seemed I had no way out. I felt like 'Tupac' being rescued by Death Row Records. That's what family is for. I gotta ride for those who rode for me. Diamon-Cut is where I'm at, and Diamon-Cut is where I will always be!?"

9248842-9248849-slarge.jpg

What’s good everybody?

With all my Rich Boy coverage, I almost forgot about this weeks “City Guide” that is due every Thursday-letting you know what’s poppin in the city.

My selection for this weeks “City Guide,” which is brought to you by Nissan, is Child Molester himself (allegedly) R. Kelly. He will be at The Velvet Room TONIGHT promoting his new concert DVD.

It seems that Chester gets a lot of luv from Atlanta. Whenever he’s in town for an event AG entertainment always seem to get priority over anyone else.

Rich Boy has dropped another video from his self titled album. It's not as good as "Throw Some D's" but it still works. Check the video out and tell me if its Poppin or Floppin.

Talk to ya lata,

--SOHH Gyant

What a night I had! Yesterday had to have been dubbed “Rich Boy-Day” in Atlanta. There was his album signing at DBs Sounds, a star studded private dinner affair at the popular and trendy eatery, Dolce, and the official album release party at The Compound.

With so much to choose from, at first I decided to go to the album release party so that I wouldn’t have to get there until late. But, just as I was about to lay it down and take my disco-nap, my phone rang and a legendary and popular photographer invited me to tag along with her to Dolce where I would receive an abundance of pictures for everyone to enjoy.

DJ Drama and his Aphilliates camp spoke to Hot 107.9’s Durrty Boyz, recently. In the interview Drama addressed his arrest, (sort of), his new album (sort of), and what’s next for the mix tape general, again (sort of). The video quality isn’t the greatest, but I know how many die hard fans Drama has in the “A” so far be it from me to deny y’all any Drama information.

8BALL.jpg

What’s good Family?

I call you all family because no matter what I put down in black and white y’all still come back and keep Sohh Atlanta one the most popular blogs on one of the most pioneering Hip-Hop sites on the planet, and I appreciate it.

Though most of y’all wont dare admit it, I know y’all love what I do. The numbers don’t lie and neither do I. But I also realize that my constant hatin can be quite redundant so I’m going to remain mum, as best I can, on the posts for the next couple of days.

As you all know Rich Boy’s album came out yesterday along with our own country singing sensation Lloyd. Since a lot of you guys reacted so negatively to the free tracks I provided from Lloyd’s sophomore effort, I wouldn’t dare put tracks from Rich Boy’s new lyrical effort on the site, although they are all over the internet.

ludacris-cosmo2sm.jpg

Has Ludacris gone completely Hollywood? It appears that every since Ludacris started sinking his teeth more and more into acting that his street creditability is going down the drain. First it was the braids, and then it was his shocking performance at rumored racist Paris Hilton's B-Day party, and now this.

RKELLY.jpg

What’s good everybody? Before we get into the Poppin or Floppin video, I got to address something.

I think its time to check some of y’all on who the Gyant is. I’ve been holding down SOHH Atlanta for almost four months now and it seems that a lot of you still just don’t get it. One of my favorite songs ever is by Jay-Z and Eminem titled “Renegade”. That pretty much sums who I am and how I represent myself.

JAY-Z Feat. EMINEM "RENEGADE"

I’ve provided you a free download of the song, just in case you haven’t heard it before.
But if I can paraphrase a little bit, here’s the chorus

RENEGADE! Never been afraid to say what's on my mind at, any given time of day Cause I'm a RENEGADE! Never been afraid to talk about anything (ANYTHING) anything (ANYTHING), RENEGADE!

I don’t have any limits as to what I talk about. A lot of y’all muthafucka’s spew bullshit, while I speak the truth. Like it or not, it is what it is.

There wasn’t anything homo about my post on Fat Joe yesterday. What I saw was an overweight "luva" who is in SERIOUS trouble, and who needs serious help. But of course a lot of undacova homo-ethugs decided to turn shit around and not address the "real" issue.

Y’all need to really elevate ya self and absorb different perspectives and opinions.

Now that I’ve said my peace, let’s get back to the post.

fj1.jpg

This is just another random post that I decided to go with. With the Summer season right around the corner it’s time for us all to get into the gym and “Work It Out”. In my mind, yesterday was the kick off to the Spring/Summer season. It was so nice that I just went walking up Ponce De Leon, and down Peachtree Street. Fellas and Ladies, it ya havnent gotten ya body right for the new season, you betta get on it.

But back to Fat Joe.....

By these pics, it looks like Fat Joe needs it more then any of us. I work out 6x a week, and my body aint no where near the size of Joe, and I don’t even take my shirt off in public. I rock wife beaters, or tanks.

I think its time for an intervention, because as he gets older his body is going to give out on him. We all remember Big Pun dont we?

BOW%20WOW.jpg

As I mentioned on Friday, I had an interview scheduled with Bow Wow for this site that completely fell through on Thursday, March, 8th, 2007. Though I was disappointed, only because I wasted my day, not because I cause I considered it a loss or anything. I still got some Bow Wow news for the few people in America that care.

Youngjeezy_cjc.jpg

What a disappointment yesterday turned out to be. I had a scheduled interview with Bow Wow that completely fell through. I was supposed to go to Young Jeezy’s party in Tucker, but failed to RSVP my photographer so I couldn’t go. And after all that I still couldn’t seem to manage to get into the gym and bust a sweat.

But since I couldn’t get to Young Jeezy’s event last night, I figured I would issue my daily dose of hate. Y’all know how I do

mac_bre-z2.jpg

What’s good everybody? Is your weekend open? Do you feel like getting out and mingling? Well I got an event for you to get our and get your party on.

The City Guide selection for this week is the Q Night Club in Cobb County. One of the hottest clubs in the ATL is hosting one of the hypest event of the season (did I just oversell that?). Mac Bre-Z’s Birthday Bash kicks off this Saturday, March 10, 2007.

This event will be hosted by Hot 107.9’s Duurty Boy E.T. Ladies you get in free all night. Fellas, you know how it is. If you’re standing in the mirror and got a doubt in your mind about your outfit, take it off and with something else. There is no need to get embarrassed by security.

jibbs.jpg

What’s good everybody,

Well if you were trying to get your leak on yesterday with a few tracks from Lloyd’s new album Street Love I hope you saw the post early. My editor removed them I’m assuming after being contacted by the record label.

I have to admit that I am very surprised that there weren't more people who were against me posting the music. I guess the music industry isn’t as bad as people say. Some people still want to go out and buy records.

Sidebar, did you play the lottery? Check ya numbers today could be the day!

Today I’m posting another poppin or floppin video by Jibbs. It’s about three weeks old but what can I say, I just didn’t get around to posting it just yet.

Is Akon Worth The Hype?!?

akonvibe.jpg

When Akon first stepped on the scene three years ago with his debut CD Trouble, I thought that he would be a “here today, gone today” type of artists. I didn’t hear anything particularly interesting about his voice or his music style. His hit singles “Locked Up”, and “Lonely” were mediocre in my book but they helped him secure a platinum album.

Fast forward three years and you’ll find that Akon is the toast of music scene. His new album Konvicted has already gone platinum after just six week’s and according to Billboards Hot 100 charts, he’s secured three Top 5 hits with “I Wanna Love (Fuck) you, “Smack That”, and his more recent single “Don’t Matter”. He’s graced numerous magazine publications, most notably this month’s Vibe magazine.

What’s good everybody?

It’s been a minute since I’ve done an Atlanta Video Classic. I thought today could be the day while I’m preparing for an interview for this site. I’m gonna drop some hints as to who I’ll be speaking too later on today.

Today’s video is a major clue. Though this artist isn’t directly under the So So Def Record Label, their affiliation with the southern record label is as solid as their relationship with the President of the label.

Street_Love.JPG

I got to be honest, I am very nervous about posting these downloads. I got them emailed to me to last night but with DJ Drama’s recent arrest for selling unauthorized music (allegedly) I don’t want anybody hauling me off to jail. Oh well I will just take my chances.

What’s good everybody. Well yesterday’s comments on the G-unit post were interesting to say the least. I got accused of being homosexual, I was once again asked to resign, and this groundbreaking, and extremely popular Hip-Hop site was accused of hating on G-Unit.

All the comments were appreciated, and the most important thing that I valued was the fact that everybody got their points across by being respectful. While some of you got out of hand, overall you guys kept it clean.

I got a “Poppin” or “Floppin” for you kind of. On the heels of Rich Boy doing his thing, with the explosive southern single “Throw Some D’s”, it looks like Kanye “to tha”, decided to snatch the beat and make his own version. He also shot a video for it. What y’all think? Is it disrespectful to snatch another up and comers beat and make a buffoonery out of it.

young%2Bbuck.jpg

It looks like the on going feud between G-Unit and The Diplomats are reaching a fever pitch as troublemaker and resident snitch, 50 cent, and southern soldier, Young Buck released a new underground video titled “Hold On”.

Girls. Girls. Girls!!!

bria.jpg

What’s good everyone? I trust everybody had a good weekend. Did anybody attend the Lupe Fiasco and Roots concert At the Tabernacle? Unfortunately I was so bogged down with writing deadlines that I wasn’t able to get out of the house to go. That’s what happens sometimes in this industry. Deadlines will fuck up your entire week. But it’s all good; I had several prime sources that went who all told me that it was a bumpin performance.

Look its Monday, so instead of writing something up about what happened over the weekend, I thought that I would post some more pictures of some FINE ASS GIRLS, WITH SOME PHAT ASSES!!!!

drama.jpg

Throughout all the “drama” that has been swirling around DJ Drama lately. He’s still trucking forward with his solo project. His new song has leaked online, and ironically its called “Feds Takin Pictures”.

What’s good everybody?

With so many posts this week I thought that I would take today to do a weekly recap on some of the Atlanta posts. Maybe you missed a hot topic that you want to catch up on. Maybe you want to read the comments. Or maybe you want to take advantage of the free downloads I give ya!

TheRoots_sgLupeFiascosmall.jpg

I recommend that you all get out and get your ticket for the hottest ticket in town. I’m always hearing about people questioning the state of Hip-Hop and wondering if it’s dead. Well with these kats on the bill, they will definitely re-affirm your belief in rap music.

Lupe and The Roots
can’t be missed. I will most definitely be there soaking up the eclectic mix of artists. They will be at the Tabernacle on Luckie Street this Sunday March 4th, 2007

Lupe Fiasco and The Roots are my pick for this week’s City Guide brought to you by Nissan.

Talk to y’all lata

--SOHH Gyant

I’ve got another Poppin or Floppin video for you this week by none other then Ciara.

I don’t know if this video is going to curve those pesky lesbian rumors but it’s the new one from Riverdale’s own Ciara. The video has her looking very butch and it’s not flattering to her beauty at all.
