SOHH Atlanta

Time For Another Atlanta's Own Showcase!!!!

Posted on December 29, 2006 3:50 AM

SOHH.COM'S ATLANTA'S OWN IS HERE!!
SOHH.com's "Atlanta's Own" – A weekly series that will showcase the hottest and most innovative Atlanta artists is back. Check out your local talent! Show your love or (hate) for the up and coming hip-hop rookies.

When I decided to put together this weekly showcase, I knew that it would be an explosive and innovative idea. With all of SOHH's readers who log on daily to check out what's hot in hip-hop nationally, regionally, and locally, it seemed like a natural progression for all of Atlanta's unsigned talent to get massive exposure from arguably one of the hottest spots oh the planet – SOHH's Atlanta blog.

The biggest movers and shakers in the record business check out SOHH on a daily basis. So you never know who's gonna hear what you got to spit. And you better trust and believe that only the hottest tracks and tightest MCs will get put on. If it's not hot – you won't hear it. Period!

With such an overwhelming response, I chose four songs by three artists that I thought were just right to bust this shit out the gate. Check out your Atlanta's Own artists below. But don't forget, if you got something hot, send it my way. SohhGyant@Sohh.com

**Specific Rules for submissions. 1. Has to be an Atlanta or Southern Artist. 2. Email must include a picture, bio, and the track your trying to get heard. 3. Will consider all music, but it needs to be hip-hop enthused. 4.Must be Hot!

1. KonKrete KONKRETE-"WHAT'S THAT SMELL

Black-Owned C-Bone, Supa Nate, and Lil Brotha make no bones about depicting their reality in the most graphic of terms. The landscape of that reality, and the music that results from it, roam from the trap to the club to the hearts, minds, and hips of women! With song titles like “Hustla”, “Sh*t Ya Drawers”, and the new hit single “What’s That Smell” you can already see hairs standing up on the necks of censors and conservatives. But don’t blame Konkrete…Blame the world that created them.

In the case of these three Atlanta natives, difficult childhoods have indeed produced most interesting adults. The grimy streets of Atlanta’s south side are anything but a playground. But growing up running an obstacle course of drugs and dirty money helped form the music that now emerges from Konkrete.

2. Jovan Davis JOVAN DAVIS-"CAME ALONG WAY"

Jovan’s story is every bit as multifaceted as what he brings to the table artistically. Born in the Bronx and raised in Atlanta, Jovan’s childhood memories are split between a mother who loved R&B and introduced him to music by playing artists like Marvin Gaye, Blue Magic, Harold Melvin and Blue Notes around the house and a father who would moonlight as a deejay and managed various musical acts (such as the popular 90’s Latin group Barrio Boyzz). Jovan’s father exposed his talented son to his business early on by taking him around innovators in the business including industry legends Teddy Riley and Maurice Star. His father’s connections also afforded Jovan the opportunity to travel on the road with artists like early 90’s R&B group The Boyz (Dial My Heart, Crazy), which introduced the impressionable youngster to the entertainment lifestyle.

While, Jovan would prefer to perform with his multifaceted 8-piece band, his musical material isn’t restricted to the confines of the contemporary R&B genre. Jovan’s dual style was showcased perfectly on the groundbreaking mix tape entitled 24: Season One, hosted by DJ Don Cannon (Aphilliates). Cannon and DJ Sense immediately labeled Jovan’s innovative approach ‘Rhythm and Streets’ and he became the first R&B artist to put out a mix tape hosted by the Aphilliates. The mix tape segues between Jovan’s smooth vocals and his hip-hop driven altar ego boldly challenging the current state of R&B. “No one is making real records anymore,” Jovan insists, “It’s a joke. People know it but no one is saying it.” Jovan put out 24: Season Two of his mix tape series in December.

3. BoyWonder BOY WONDER-"BACK ON MY HUSTLE"

What do you get when you cross a twenty year old Brazilian from Tampa, FL with amazing rap skills in both English and Portuguese, movie star good looks, a killer physique and true southern boy swagga wit the dreds to top it off, a super hot producer and “Phresh 2 Def” management? The answer is obvious-the next superstar phenom in urban contemporary music! Edward Souza p/k/a BOY WONDER a/k/a B DUB is the kind of artist that comes along once in a lifetime.

He is a thoroughbred by blood; his father and all of his uncles played professional league soccer oversees and one of his uncles even played for the 1958 World Cup Champion Brazilian national soccer team led by THE icon of soccer, Pele, and he was one of the top 10 players in the State of Florida by the time he was just 15 years of age. He gave up soccer to pursue his dreams of becoming a rap star, and his style and natural ability brought him to the attention of Acafool, one of the top producers/rappers in the Tampa Bay area

4. Aic Bates AICH BATES-"SO MANY"

HollyWood Da Hustla A.K.A. OMB is definitely one of the souths best kept secrets..highly sought after for the heat that he brings on his tracks Wood is also a beast in the booth with his lyrics..."in a red t-shirt with no drawers just like Winnie The Pooh"...his verses need a vaccine,seriously...

FaSho A.K.A. Tha New and Improved King Ding-A-Ling is a hot young SuperStar on the rise...the kid is killin'em all with his swagger and yness....he might just be the one to bring light skinned brotha's back...always coming at you with a perspective and angle that is unexpected at times but always on point...on a path to being the next true symbol...so keep an eye and ear out for F-Sho say no mo'.

Lodda Kutta A.K.A. King Ding-A-Ling is most known for his versatility on the track....whether it's spittin a hot sixteen or grabbin you by the ears singin on a hook,he's definitely what you call an "artist"...though usually ranting about his capades, he keeps it interesting and relavant always

JayUneek A.K.A. Lil'Parkin lot Pimpin is best know for his vicious and often times insensitive freestyle battles on BET's Black College tour as a repeat champion and on DJ Epheezy's show(former DJ of Huntsville's 93.3 )...Jay goes for the throat at all times so if you think you wanna get at him have Jesus write you a freestyle verse and have God to proof read it for you..."you battle JayUneek and you get no affection/that's like having an with Magic Johnson with no protection"....if you wanna hear more hit us up about how you can get the hottest MixTape of the New Year: 4 Tha Love of Money vol.1.

  • Hey guys I have a suggestion that im hoping that you decide to take seriously if you guys are going to have a spot to showcase local talent you should also allow them to provide contact information so that if producers such as myself or anyone else would like to contact them it is convienient. I mean whats the sense of them getting out there if all i can do is hear their song and I have no means of communication. Thanks.
