Not all rappers are good enough to make that switch. Will Smith made the switch easily because he was a bright young man who was eager to perfect his acting skills. Cube is good. DMX is good because his roles are usually how he acts anyway.

LL is also a rapper who does a phenomenal good job at acting in big movies.

T.I. may (or may not) have been good in ATL, I don't know because I didn't see it, but acting in a hood movie isn't big enough to say he's a good actor. The hood is where he comes from so ofcourse he knows how the part should be played. His real test will come when he's playing the role of someone out of his comfort zone.

No, I am not being negative, how is that negative? Being critical of someone who is mislabeling himself and disrespecting his peers is not being negative. All this is is critiquing. The business he is in, is critiqued and reviewed, and everything said about someone can't be all good, always saying good things is in essence, fake. I know you aren't comparing Jay-Z with 50......it didn't take Jay 10 years to do what 50 is doing, he blew up with Vol. 2, which was his third album, second year in the game...and every one of Jay's albums would have blew someone up if it was their first, and every single he has ever dropped besides change clothes would have blew someone up...the only reason 50 reached eminem and nelly pop numbers is because he was with Dre and Eminem.....take them out of it, and with all his hype and the Ja beef, he still woulda sold, but you can't sit here and say he would've sold half of what he did without em's pop audience and Dre's influence...i liked the old "how to rob" 50, i don't like this one who talked shit about Ja's style only to jack it and hypocritcially do it himself....watch his first little DVD that came with his "Get rich or Die Tryin" album...he admits that he would try or do any type of song....Jay-Z is the greatest at walking that fine line between commercial and pop and Jay has musical integrity, he really cares and you can hear it in his music...50 admits he will do anything....no integrity and you can hear it in his music now

As for TI, I think this is a perfect situation for him. He has come a long way from I'm serious to starring next to denzel which is huge. He's expanding himself in entertainment as well life cause he's gonna learn by being around actors and icons whose movies everyone has seen. I don't think the role will be a problem because he has the swagger, charisma, and wants to get better at whateva he does. I saw ATL and I thought he did a very good job (although big boi was better, dat nigga can act), so he'll be ok learning from denzel. So big ups to TIP and can't wait for the next album.

I'm glad that T.I. has signed on to do another movie. As most of you have noted, you can't rap forever, and it is better to secure your future and that of your family, than to be concerned about whether or not you damage your so-called street credibility.

As a young black female, I am saddened by the fact that in this day and age people can't appreciate when a young black man decides to move forward in life instead of staying embedded in drugs and poverty.
