The Dirty Awards were all they were cracked up to be no doubt. If you missed it let me give you brief rundown of what jumped off.

The Red Carpet was on point. David Banner and MJG came through suited down real dapper. Lil Jon rolled through with Trillville, also China Whyte was back on the carpet after her three-year bid. Scrappy came though and even grabbed the DJ's mic and put to rest the G-Unit rumors. Ying Yang, Killer Mike, Khujo, Paul Waul, Slim Thug, Pretty Ricky, B5, Ebony Eyez, T-Pain, Tango Redd, Michael Vick, Daz, Bobby V, Jackie O, Field Mob..the list goes on man. The red carpet was nice even though alot of artist were on CPT but the one's that made it did their thing.

Purple Ribbon Floods The Streets With Purp Today

Big Boi.gif
The due date has finally come for The Purple Ribbon fam, Got Purp Vol. 2 is in stores today and I'm interested in finding out what this baby sounds like. I'm sure that with the Outkast stamp of approval, the production should be on point.

My only wish was to hear even more Goodie Mo-B on this album, they could have re-introduced Atlanta to the Godfather's of Soul Food but I'll reserve judgement until I hear the complete album. I do understand what Big Boi was trying to do by getting everybody on the label some shine and that works for me.

I'm on my way to pick up the CD, I'll have more opinions on it later this week. I'm just glad we have some genuine product on the streets here again (commercially speaking).

As always, make sure you get out to the Purple Ribbon concert and album release party at Club Eleven50 tonight, it should be packed. Also, keep an ear out today for Juelz, Chamillionaire, and my dude Canibus dropping today.

Media Needs To Bud-Out Of Other Affairs?

Will the BMF (Black Mafia Family) indictments have any impact on the Atlanta hip hop game? Let the media tell it, there are major ties to the rap community throughout the nation, especially in Detroit and Atlanta.

So two cats start a crime family that nets a billion dollars and now rumors have it that theyve made several moves with artists and companies in the city? You never know, but it's all crazy to an outsider like myself, it's like the media always wants to tie things together, just leave this family alone.

Let's hope that nobody get's caught up in the fishnet of the media.

Ludacris And His Confederate Flag OutFit

Luda.jpg
What was up with Luda's "confederate flag" uniform on the "Vibe Awards", which by the way have to be the most boring awards show going.

I saw what Luda was gettin' at by wearing the first 'fit then tearing it off in favor of the RED/BLACK/GREEN confederate flag outfit...but damn it was a helluva risk. I was watching it with a couple of other people, GA native's, who were upset immediately.

That's Luda though, you know what they say no risk-no reward.

By the way where was Smoke from Field Mob at? My guess is he might still be on paper and couldn't attend.

Purple Ribbon...What Does It All Mean?

purpribb.gif
During this last month Big Boi's Purple Ribbon label has been splattered everywhere, even this site. So me being the info seeker that I am, I did some research to find out what the meaning behind "The Purple Ribbon" title is. Many might argue, who care's as long as the music's tight...I feel ya' on that too. But anyway, let me share with you what I found.

One site acknowledges the symbolism of the purple ribbon by saying that in many cultures and religions the color purple is associated with a higher spiritual calling. It's the favorite color of many Pagans (hmmmm) and it's a color most everyone seems drawn to. It's warm yet cool, a balance of the color energies.

"A lot of the DVDs that are out are more like street videos, I wanted people to see that what goes on behind the scenes is business." DJ Drama explains.

I'm interested in finding out if he can lock the DVD game down like he's doing the mixtape circuit here in the "Dirty".

The Georgia Power Tour Lineup Is Set

wayne.jpg
By now you've probably heard that Jeezy, T.I, and Lil Wayne are going on tour together beginning in late November and continuing thru February. It's also been rumored that Paul Wall will be joining in on some of the dates. Funny thing is currently there are no Atlanta plans for the tour?

The "Georgia Power Tour" is expected to lead up to T.I's new album "The King" which is in production right now. He's also releasing the soundtrack to the movie "Cascade" on Grand Hustle later this year.

My recommendation would have been to drop his new albums first and then go on tour. This is why I say that, and don't get me wrong I give major props to Tip because he does his thing. But the last two times I saw Tip on stage he was WEAK, only because he was still doing old material off of the first albums. It's time for something new, there's only so much "ASAP" and "You Don't Know Me's" we can take.

JD Deserves His Props

JermaineDupri.jpg
Recently, Jermaine Dupri was upset about not getting the props and respect in the music game like he should be. And dammit JD I have to agree with you! We are looking at a great one people, don't get it twisted.

I remember watching Michael Jordan hit a clutch jumper from the baseline to win the NCAA Championship as a freshman in college and I knew right then that I was witnessing greatness. Believe it or not, I feel the same way about JD. Say what you will but nobody can hold a candle to what he does as an artist/producer/writer/Virgin Records President/SoSo Def CEO...That's crazy, really.

The man is writing hits back-to-back-to-back. Can you say Usher, Bow Wow, and Mariah? Now really, objectively speaking who's messin with that? Yeah I know they're mainstream but we're just talking the music game overall and if you don't believe me, put any one of those three artists on in a room full of ladies and watch the mood and the atmosphere change for the better.

I think it's time J get's his props, just ask Billboard who's the man? As a matter of fact watch Grillz w/Nelly,Gipp,Ali and Paul Waul shoot to the top of the music and video charts real soon. ATL we need to really check who we run around calling King and Prince of the South, that's a serious honor to be given unless it's well-deserved!

Are Atlanta Producers Recycling Beats Now?

casio.jpg
Damn Is he using a Triton or a Casio?

Lately I've been hearing several Atlanta critics say that alot of the music here sounds recycled (meaning two different beats done seperately but sounding the damn same) or for that matter they insist that some of the music here sounds like it's done on a Casio, Fruity Loops etc...

Can Goodie Mob Make A Successful Comeback?

goodie.jpg
It's almost official, Goodie Mob and Cee-lo have worked everything out and are preparing to drop another album more than likely under The Purple Ribbon Label. It's been almost 10 years since they blessed us with the Soul Food album that was an innovative masterpiece. But the question is, can they regain that same magic?

A few months back I interviewed JD and asked him if in this era the industry was prepared to accept some good ol' fashioned soul-food type of music with a positive message and he said "it's possible but these days people will look at it like you trying to preach to them." I do agree but I feel like if anybody can do it, it would be Goodie. They were the originals and yes there is always a place for the innovators. (See JD, Ice Cube, Scarface, Redman, Too Short, 8 Ball & MJG etc...The list goes on.)

ATL...The Week In Review

This weekend the city was flooded with industry heads all across the board. Trina and Trick were here performing, as was Trey Songs. Russell Simmons was also here posted up at South Beach Bistro Saturday night. Even Juelz was here doing a show and promoting his album, I even heard him on the radio unveiling new cuts off of the CD and "Make It Work For You" with Jeezy and Lil Wayne is a banger, his album could be serious.

Paul Wall, Nelly, and Ali were in town shooting a video for "Grillz". JD and Gipp are also on that cut. Trillville also shot a video last weekend for "Nothing Less" with G-Unit ally Lil Jon.

And finally, big ups to my guys from the field, Field Mob who finally dropped a video for "Georgia On My Mind" and premiered it on 106th and Park last Friday. They told me they would be filming it in Albany and Atlanta respectively, and that it would be good and country and that it was. I aint mad at 'em, their time has finally come. Get paper'd up fellas.

SoSo Def Is Under The Microscope

bow wow.jpg
Bow Wow and Ciara rumors are beginning to swirl regarding a possible marraige proposal after Ciara was spotted sporting a huge diamond ring on her wedding finger. Bow Wow insists thats he hasn't popped the question to his girlfriend yet. He confirmed, "It's just a little something... but not an engagement ring people."

I hear that the relationship between the two has gotten serious as of late, but not to the extent of marriage. I'm not one to be real big on gossip and he-say/she-say so I'll just take Bow's word for it.

The So So Def Family is paying the price for being hot right now amid the Bow Wow rumors and JD's girls' rumored pregnancy and 18 year-old hidden child. I guess this is the price of being hot right now, the paparazzi stay gunnin' for you.

There is a new diva on the horizon as Detroit's own Jennifer Edison recently touched down in Atlanta for a media meet-and-greet for members of the press and select radio and industry personnel. Make no mistake about it, what once was a buzz is now a loud chatter as people are anxiously awaiting the release of her second album "A Thousand Wings".

Her first CD was a mildly successful independent release, but her second CD has her being hailed as the next big artist to come out of the Motown area. Jennifer's great-aunt was a member of the legendary Supreme's, and those vocal talents are apparent in her music.

JE cover.jpg

SOHH.COM:
Where did you come up with the title for the album, "A Thousand Wings" and what does it mean?

Jennifer Edison:
"A Thousand Wings" is the title track of the album and it just deals with finally finding that person or love that makes you feel like you're flying with a thousand wings, it's very symbolic. I want all of my songs to have a point. Even if the point is to just have fun, I like to write songs that have a purpose and an overall message. I like to break down a situation and talk about things that we all probably know but never really say out loud, or maybe in a way we never thought about.
