This week Slip-N-Slide's Diamond Princess releases her fourth album Still The Baddest which features appearances from Missy Elliott, Keyshia Cole, Pitbull, Rick Ross and Plies among others. In addition to her music career Trina also launched a non-profit organization the Diamond Doll Foundation and is currently working on a clothing and fragrance line. 24 Hour Grind caught up with one of the last ladies standing in hip-hop to find out the key to her continued success.

Expand Your Horizons

I think it’s a smart thing to do because there is so much opportunity. There are so many things that are given to us. Why wouldn’t you take advantage and want to be involved with making clothing, shoes, accessories, bags, furniture whatever it is you can do that’s a whole other entity that can show who you are? It shows you can do different things besides music. For myself, working with clothing was a different experience. I’m a person that buys a lot of clothing, from regular casual designers to the most fabulous designers, so just to actually be a part of putting it together is amazing. It’s totally different if you are to purchase a shirt out of the store as opposed to being the person creating, picking the fabric and threading and buttons. It’s a lot, but it’s a beautiful experience. I’m so happy to be a part of everything I’m involved with, from perfume to clothing. We are planning to expand into a bunch of different things. It’s a fun growing experience. As artists I think we should all take advantage of that.

  • i love that rappers are expanding their horizons and doing different things. i just have one question, How come not one rapper has opened not one warehouse in their own (most likely former)neighborhoods to help give jobs to the people who are buying their music? I am pretty sure Miami could use the employment.

  • Its funny how everyone wants to have their own clothing line. I have to say be careful. Vokal didnt last, and I never see anyone wearing Shady ltd. Certain HipHop clothing lines didnt last. Rocawear had a good run, and so did phat farm. I heard Kanye is coming out with his own line and that should be interesting I remember him saying "i want to be up there with Gucci" ... we'll see. But good luck Trina.

  • Trina seems to be very well spoken. On e thing I can say about her is I never seen her in the media for foolishness like shooting people or lying to a judge and oh no bare pussy shots from Trina. Say a lot about her and shes been in the biz going on 11 years now. Props to Trina for just staying in her lane and being humble and thankful for the blessing thats been placed upon her. I think the key to Trina success is that she never let it get to her head. Being humble will take you far with God.
