Even A KING Needs A Team, KING Mag EIC Jermaine Hall Talks Teamwork

After four years as Executive Editor of KING Magazine, St. Lucia-born, Queens-bred journalist Jermaine Hall has taken the reins as Editor-in-Chief of the Men's magazine Hugh Hefner dubbed "the Black Playboy". In this week's 24 Hour Grind Jermaine weighs in with his favorite KING moments, what direction the magazine is going in and things every EIC should know to turn out an eyecatching publication.
You’re Only As Good As Your Team
You can be the dopest EIC in the world -- you can be Jim Nelson and have a wack team and your magazine will be extra wack. You’re only as good as the 5 or 6 guys or women that are behind you, and that’s all departments, the edit department, the photo department, the art department, the whole thing. It’s gotta be tight or it will show cracks in your work. The second part of that is you have to run your operation like a democracy – don’t be a dictator. If there is a story that’s being debated and nine people on your staff are like 'I don’t know that’s kind of wack,' just because you’re the head dude doesn’t mean you’re always right. If nine out of ten say it’s wack, it’s probably wack. I know plenty of people who fall victim to that – you gotta put your ego to the side.

Jermaine has a hot publicist. The dude who created King got the same one. I saw them all dressed up at an event in February for Datwon Thomas. Guess the publicist keeps them inspired to stay fresh because all the editors i know are always sloppy and lazy. Jermaine you seem on point! When the publicist gonna be in the mag?
