Work Hard & Stay True
"Stay true to your craft and let your goal be about the music. Work hard and get rid of folks that don't believe in you." MC Lyte's advice to aspiring artists

Lana "MC Lyte" Moorer began her rap career in the early 1980s. The younger sister of Audio Two's Milk Dee and Gizmo, Lyte experienced her first success with the single, "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)", which was produced by her brothers. The fictional song, which detailed a lying boyfriend’s crack cocaine addiction led to her recording contract with First Priority Music, where she would release her debut album, Lyte As a Rock in 1988.

Her second album Eyes on This released in 1989, spawned Lyte's first #1 Rap Tracks single "Cha Cha Cha" and another hit "Cappuccino". Her third album, 1991's Act Like You Know, bore another #1 Rap Track "Poor Georgie". In 1993, MC Lyte released t Ain't No Other which boasted another #1 Rap Track, "Ruffneck", and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Single. "Ruffneck" was the first ever gold single for a female rap artist.

Her talent has not been confined to music, Lyte has appeared on television and in film roles ( Fly by Night (1993), A Luv Tale (1999), Train Ride (2000), Civil Brand (2002) and Playa's Ball (2003). She recently served as a mentor to Shar Jackson on MTV's "Celebrity Rap Superstar"

In October 2006, MC Lyte was honored during VH1's "Hip Hop Honors." She was joined by fellow female MC's Da Brat, Remy Ma, and Lil' Kim as they performed some of her tracks, "Cha Cha Cha," "Lyte As A Rock", "Paper Thin" and "Ruffneck".
