I became interested in directing when my sister got a job at a movie theater when I was like eleven and I'd be in the movie theater nights and weekends and I got really immersed in it. I loved it.
Immerse yourself completely into what it is that you want to do, in a way that makes it honest. Since I was young I got really into fashion magazines, art magazines and skate magazines. Everything that had to do with anything creative, I was reading, learning about or talking about. When there is something you want to do it's important to know all aspects of it.
It's easy to say, 'I went to school for this.' That doesn't make you a great director, just because you went to school. You have to understand people, culture and the world. Having a grasp on those things is important. Especially for music videos, because they are part art, but also marketing. It's also having an understanding of the artist you're working with and their fanbase, so that you're in the know and never half assing it. Be well rounded.
